I went to Indian Masala with my family for the first time this weekend. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! Our food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. We started with the Vegetable Samosas and the Papdi Chaat. WOW. That's the best way to describe it. Both dishes were delicious. Our only complaint was that the food was a bit pricey, but it was definitely good quality food. For my main dish, I got one of the vegan options called Aloo Gobi. It was SO. GOOD. I wish I could've eaten it all but I was full! The garlic and the cheese naan were both really good as well. My family members ordered other things like Malabar Curry, Makhani, and Madras. We all got medium heat (you can get mild, medium, or hot) and the medium was perfect. Such a great kick, but not unbearable. My dad got the chicken vindaloo (the max spice) and it was very spicy but VERY good according to him! Rice was unlimited with made this better, and the staff even gave us extra rice to take home! Recently had our first visit and Indian Masala did not disappoint. Successful in every way you'd want a restaurant to be. Delicious, authentic Indian food, large portions, great service. Can't wait to get back to try other dishes on the menu. And we were very pleased with the eggplant and yogurt starter, Imli Baingan. The restaurant is small and even with a reservation needed to wait a few minutes but it was well worth it. BYOB is another plus! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Indian Masala! We got the chicken tikka masala and it had a really awesome coconut milk flavor balancing out the heat. We also had chicken vindaloo and FINALLY - a vindaloo curry that's actually spicy! Every time I order vindaloo from other Indian places, it is toned down and called spicy but this time, it actually had heat. The garlic naan was delish as well. The service was impeccable. We have made two visits to Indian Masala and are extremely happy with their offerings. All of our dishes were prepared properly and tasted wonderful. We had the lamb vindaloo, twice (sufficiently spicy but not unbearable so), chicken saag and shrimp mango curry. They were all delicious. We also had the tandoori roti and raita. For dessert we had Galub Jamun and the Gajar Ka Halwa, neither of which we ever had before and they were absolutely spectacular. The restaurant is rather small and can probably hold thirty guests if every seat at every table was occupied. However, the seating was well spaced so no one was crowded. The waiters were very knowledgeable and pleasant. And as this is New Jersey, it is a BYOB. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. We have eaten Indian food in NYC, Easton, PA, Florida, and various other places and Indian Masala is right up there with the best. We wish Indian Masala all the best and hope it is around for a long time. read more

It pains me to be negative about a new and much needed restaurant in Newton. Typically I wait 6 months before dining at a new restaurant but I was so excited about not having to drive to Morris or Bergen County. The good. Nice atmosphere. Very comfortable tables and chairs. Intimate. The food was plentiful with meat (both of our dishes). What I didn't like. The food is not traditional Indian fare. The curry is watery like soup and lacks flavor. Not one cardamom pod. It had heat and that was about it. While there was a generous portion of meat in both our dishes the cubes of chicken were not prepared and would appear to have been cubes of meat dumped into the curry. No prep or seasoning. The chicken did not have any flavor. The vindaloo was the same. Lots of meat, good heat, bland, flavorless and not genuine. The meal came with rice that did not appear to be basmati which is a no no. If it was basmati it was a low grade lacking the distinctness of basmati. But that was it. No chutney and japati. No naan bread or roti. Priced over $40 the value wasn't there. My 3 stars is generous but with due consideration to the newness. I hope the owner takes this review as constructive criticism and makes the improvements. It all starts in the kitchen. I will go back in 6 months and hopefully they will have found their mark. read more

Awesome dining experience! Let's talk about presentation, each dish came to the table with the appearance that it was crafted by a professional chef. The boom boom chicken appetizer was excellent as well as the tandoori Shrimp. This place is definitely on my return to list. The staff was super attentive and friendly. Very disappointed. Turned away at 5.30pm because we didn't have a reservation. Only two of us and the place was almost empty. They could have fit us in if they'd wanted to but no, that would cause "a problem" later. Weren't even offered the chance to wait. Very strange experience, won't be going back there. read more

Wow!!! This is my favorite Indian restaurant for sure. The food was great, the service was even better. It is a very small restaurant so be prepared to wait, or make reservations. We ordered mild bc my father in law doesn't like spicy food. It came out spicy for him, but the rest of us thought it was perfect. Authentic Indian food, terrific service. Their samosas have chickpea flour in the dough, and they fry up perfectly crisp and with a more distinctive flavor than others we've tried. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, from the Tandoor chicken Tikka to the lamb biriani and garlic naan--even the homemade chutney knocked it out of the park. We had a party of eight for my grandson's 12th birthday...he is a freak for curry! We started with various appetizers including chili chicken, onion pakora, and kabab sampler. All of them excellent...well prepared, large portions served with class. Entrees: Tandoori chicken: huge portion for two teens (a 17yo granddaughter and 14 yo grandson), that they couldn't finish! Chicken Tikka Masala: totally gone! Lamb Korma: Our adult daughter (30's) ordered it mild, but said she will order it again with medium spice. Chicken Chettinad: my adult son, (42, who's youngest was celebrating his birthday) could barely finish the large portion! Shrimp Biryani: my wife ordered this and it came with jumbo shrimp done to perfection! The rice was perfectly spiced and had been described as medium hot...she doesn't like too hot. She said it was perfect for her! Lamb Vindaloo: my waiter warned me that it was the hottest item on the menu...I LOVED IT! It was hot but not punishingly so. The lamb was plentiful, tender and perfectly sized chunks. We also ordered garlic naan, cheese naan, and butter naan to accompany our entrees (and to soak up the sauces). It was hot, fresh and large servings! We will be back and the family cheered when we found out that they will do take out! read more

Absolutely delicious!!! We are so excited to have a cute trustworthy place nearby that actually understands what vegan is. They have a separate section for vegan entree and were easily able to help us navigate any other items that also happened to be or could easily be turned vegan. I liked that they had some South Indian dishes on the menu as well which utilize coconut milk so I could have a creamier dairy free curry. We were there fir dinner on 06/11/2022. A good selection of appetizers and entrees were listed. We had vegetarian samosa, Malai Kofta (my wife said it was the best she's ever had), lamb vindaloo (well spiced), saag paneer .Peshwari naan, and butter naan, with Malai Kulfi for dessert and 2 other desserts we took home to family. The food was great. The service friendly and appropriate.The restaurant is small but comfortable. Wine or beer is currently BYOB and they open it for you. When we left there were two small groups waiting and all other tables (I think 10-12 total) were full. We will be going back. read more
