We recently had dinner for 5 at Tokyo. The menu has a nice selection and variety of Japanese fare. The cocktail list is oriented toward drinks that contain sake. One of our party wanted a salmon avocado roll with tobiko added and was told the price would be an extra $8 - so they said no to that roll. We ordered 5 other rolls and some fried rice. The rolls came out as they were prepared - including the salmon avocado roll we said no to. All the rolls were delicious. The fried rice never arrived and we tried to get someone's attention for a while during the meal to inquire about it but could never get that attention. The service was good at taking the order but not super attentive once served. The prices were appropriate. We also tried the edamame and hot tea - both were fine. We will likely go again because the sushi rolls were darn tasty! read more

We ordered shrimp tempura roll, spicy crab roll, kids chicken hibachi, adult chicken hibachi. Food was fast. Server was super friendly to our family. They even gave us complimentary dessert after one of our kids spilled the soy sauce all over the table and she had to clean it up. I'd return to this place for sure! read more

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone nor will I eat from here again. We ordered three different types of specialty rolls at $15 a piece. They squeezed all three rolls together into one tiny container equivalent to the size of one roll you can buy at a grocery store. Having eaten at many sushi restaurants, it's pretty standard that a more basic roll like spicy tuna or California is typically smaller and lower priced compared to signature/specialty rolls. On top of it, all the rolls were so poorly rolled and squished together that when you tried to take a piece out, it would fall apart. Now onto the taste...Two of the rolls were covered in so much spicy mayo that it overpowered the taste of what little amount of fish was inside or on top of the roll. Was craving fresh sushi and was ultimately disappointed. read more

i'm from a small town in iowa and don't have many options for asian food like this, so each time i visit sioux falls i always come here! i love the food (i get the same thing every time haha) but each time the service hasn't been great. i've been a server myself for a couple years, and each time they've messed something up. last time, my server didn't bring me my water even though she handed me all my food lol i had to ask her for it. the times before that, they forgot the cali roll that comes with the ramen and even forgot my friend's entire order! i had to flag our waitress down and tell her because she would just not come check on us! i go here for the food, and always expect crappy service so it's whatever. i do it to myself lol read more

I went here looking for a decent sushi place in SD -- it's been hard to find good food in the Midwest. The inside is nicely decorated and clean looking. We were greeted by a server who told us to sit anywhere and gave us our drinks in their bottles/cans due to Covid with straws in wrappers. My boyfriend got a bento box and I got miso soup, sashimi, and some rolls. His bento box came with a side salad with ginger sauce and miso soup, as well. I have never seen this before, but the soup came with some spices to mix in which made it even better. The sushi chef also gave us an extra roll! Everything was SO delicious and I was very impressed. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach, so I took the rest home and we are so excited to finish it tonight. read more

Food was decent. But the costumer service was pretty rough. Our main server was short and rude. When we came in the door around 2:30ish, she was in the middle of her lunch and stood from her table and asked us how many while finishing her bite. She just told us from across the room and pointed toward the second booth and told us to take that one. Didn't ask what we wanted for drinks she just got crabby and said something about "just water then?" She left after we got our food and the second server finished up our meal and closed the ticket. The second server was polite and courteous and took better care of us and the table behind us and really we only had her for maybe the last ten minutes. Amazing cuisine! I've had the salmon bento box and my friend had the sushimi sampler. The display as a cuisine addict would say looked like food as art. You in fact eat with your eyes before your mouth and my eyes were feasting on that salmon drenched with whatever sauce was on that bad boy. 10/10 will be back after I make this next check. read more

As usual, the food was good. No complaints there. The service was nothing short of terrible. We waited 15 minutes before the waitress even came to our table and then it just got worse from there. She only had a few tables and continuously tried to bring us other peoples food and drinks. She never brought my wife's drink at all. But still charged us for it. Then brought my wifes entree to another table, dropped it off. The customer sent it back and she dropped that same plate off on our table. I worked in a restaurant and that is a big no no. That plate should have been remade. Who knows if it was touched by the other customer and frankly, I don't want to know. With such a massive bill, I expect better service. This used to be mu favorite asian restaurant, but my last few trips have been a lot like this. I am done with Tokyo. read more

Called (from the parking lot) and was told "got to go... 2 girl walking up to door"... finally went to stand near the door with 6-8 other people. Got the Godzilla roll. Was well made and fairly fresh. My gripe is with the free appetizer brought out before... the crab salad was a little bit fishy which I'm not a fan of. The Godzilla roll was crunchy and creamy complimented with a strawberry and a herb. Kind of an experience. Was maybe a dollar or two more expensive than other sushi restaurants but still better priced and put together than grocery store sushi. Ordered fried gyoza, miso soup, and golden dragon roll which are really good. -1 for the miso soup being somewhat diluted, it definitely needs more miso. The ambiance and service was fast but i don't know of they are busy or rushing us. When we visited 3/18/17, a female server gave us the bill and pretty much threw it on our table infront of our faces and didn't even say anything. (She was not our server). Im sure their food is really good thats why the locals go here but the server's attitude ruined the whole experience. I got excited that this place has good reviews and knowing that there isn't alot of Asian restaurants in Sioux Falls, this place is a good find but if servers got attitude, no matter how good the food is, I'll just pass. I've never been disappointed here! The wait staff are always welcoming, friendly and offer complimentary bites to eat before the meal as well as free desert! We love the Sioux Falls Roll but all of the rolls we've tried have been really good. Tokyo - 57th & Louise Location.... The sushi speaks for itself. As a sushi lover - and have tried many a sushi place around the country, Tokyo was a God-send. My Sushi Masa (the other option in town - don't waste your time with Coco Palace) experience was less than par - fishy smell to the restaurant, rolls that were too big to one-bite, and taste was not fresh. Tokyo is the by far my wife and my favorite in town. A Perfect order includes: a Red Dragon Roll (you have to see this thing, and if you're a spicy tuna lover, you will have delightful dreams about this one); a Sioux Falls roll - OMG-good. and 2-piece sushi nigiri's of Tuna, YellowTail, Salmon. Their spicy tuna is the cats peejays, but everything we've had has been great. Add a fancy-pants Japanese Orange soda with the little marble in it, and you have a wonderful meal! read more

I'm from California, and I think this is the best sushi 'experience' i've had in South Dakota/Iowa. The restaurant is very traditional, with a sushi bar on one end and booths and tables making up a pretty big dining space. The menu is very large but encompasses all the basics, including tempura, teriyaki and sushi/sashimi and speciality rolls. I thought the sushi and sashimi quality was good -- if I got it in the Bay Area I wouldn't have been shocked and appalled. There was a taste to everything and nothing except the dyed tuna had a mealy, frozen taste. Miso was very decent. Service was a little slow, but we got everything we needed. My only complaint is that while the bento boxes were about 10 dollars, the 8 piece (small, btw) spicy tuna roll was $8.80. That is way too much for dyed tuna mixed with spicy mayo, especially considering the fact that way, way bigger rolls were only a dollar or two more expensive. If you're looking for sushi out on the prairie, this isn't a bad place to try. read more

Had a great dinner here last night. I've had takeout rolls before but this was our first time eating in. They were very accommodating and the food came out quickly. I had the bento box A11 with katsu pork, shrimp don and gyoza with California roll. While I'm not a huge California roll fan this one was very good. (They don't substitute the roll in the bento box, I asked). My husband had the steak hibachi. Both meals came with miso soup (very very good) and the salad. We both thought the soup was better than others we've had before. The decor is very nice and the place is spacious. They were very welcoming of our two young children and brought out a second plate for our daughter so we could share with her. read more

I was looking for a place on Sunday with Asian food, but since it was slightly late I was limited. I went to a place near my house at first that although sign said closed at 8:30 they were closed at 8:10 already. So I was driving along and remembered seeing Tokyo a while back. They were open and they were great. The place is clean and has a sushi bar at the end. The menu has pictures which is very helpful. They were very nice and welcoming when I got there. I ordered takeout and they were very helpful at explaining what was what. I ended up getting the shrimp don which is shrimp and vegetables on top of steamed rice. Unfortunately they did not have brown rice. After I payed I felt like getting miso soup and the server decided to give it to me on the house. HOW AWESOME IS THAT???!!! As I was waiting for my dish they gave me water and made sure I was ok. It was ready in about 10-15 minutes. The dish was a good size and had way too much rice but there was a good amount of shrimp. I love vegetables and there was not much vegetables - maybe 3 Tbsp of carrots, peppers and onions. That was slightly disappointing. Miso soup was typical for asian restaurants, nothing special. I think the food itself was more like a 3 stars but because they were really nice and the service was good I gave them a 4. I will go back but this time try the sushi! read more

The food is good but not to par with current popular restaurant standards. It's good for a first time outing, to try something new. The Miso soup is bland. They bring you your soda in a Can which ruins the restaurant experience. I'm paying 1.50 for a can of soda? I should have just brought my own. They don't seem to care when you come in the door. No one ever seems to be at the front desk. You'll be standing around looking goofy for a few minutes before they notice you there. They have a pretty good California roll here, and the Bento box is yummy, the beef isn't too much to get excited about though. read more
