We ordered okra online using GrubHub and they didn't have any left for the day. The owner sent one of his guys to pick up some more. Indian cuisine worth trying for once. I tried this restuarant for lunch the other day. I was a bit skeptical at first but decided to give them a go. I was glad I did so. I ordered the chicken masala with garlic naan and another order of plain naan. This was an extremely hardy lunch to devour. The masala was well prepared and delicious throughout. I did not like the rice I felt it was overcooked, but that did not stop me from enjoying my meal. I would reccomend this to anyone in the appetite for indian cuisine. I come here often for the lunch buffet with work peeps. The food ain't all that extraordinary but it's the closest Indian restaurant around work. The curries are a little soupy and the chicken tikka is a little dry. The naan is thin and cut small. I like paneer in my saag (one of my favorite classic Indian dishes), and they have omitted the cheese so it's not good in my book. I know what Indian Summer is. It's that delicious over-arching time that begins in warm weather, and then eventually plunges you into the shock of cold. Kind of like when I picked up my take out meal here. I had a certificate from restaurant.com for $15 with minimum purchase of $22.50. Seemed like a fair deal, and so I ordered more than I usually do, figuring on leftovers. Nope. I am tossing what I didn't eat. It gets worse - prices are ridic. Looking at the menu -here on Yelp mobile- I ordered: Vegetable Samosas $3.95 Eggplant Bharta $8.95 Saag Paneer $8.95 Papadum $1.95 My math comes to: $23.80 Plus tax, let's round it to about.... $26. So I should owe $11, right? I was shocked to be asked for $17 and change, and I handed over my credit card, wordlessly (yes, I should have/could have said something then, but didn't, as I was a bit embarrassed to pay with coupon). For some reason, when I got home, there was rice (which I don't eat, and promptly threw away), in my order at the bottom of the bag. But even so, rice is listed as $2. So what was the extra charge and why could I be charged over $15 difference? And was the food worth it? Not really. Having just returned from London, where Indian food is everywhere, I had some tasty eats, at a low price point. And it blew this cheap, average food away. The saag paneer was heavy and tasted so much of ghee that my stomach turned instantly. Into the bin. The papadum tasted like it came from a store bought package. Binned. The samosa were ok, but not great. Binned leftover 1 and 1/2 The bharta was so utterly lacking in eggplant that it should have not been named eggplant bharta, but mixed veggies with tomatoes. Ate a little but leftovers? Right to the bin. Maybe the buffet is better, and a better value, but for take away I feel ripped off. There aren't hardly any Indian food options in the South Bay it seems, but this one is quite all right. We ordered to-go. Got chicken tikka masala and chicken korma. We both like medium spice but were both underwhelmed by the medium spiciness. They could have definitely upped it a bit. The sauces were nice and creamy, but a little spicier would have gotten them a 5 star. The garlic naan was fresh and quite garlicky. I will try the plain naan next time. We ordered around 5pm on a Sunday and it was completely empty. The food was ready about 2 minutes after we arrived, about 10 minutes ahead of their estimate. They take a lot of care with packaging their food to go which was nice. You don't want Indian food spilling in your newly washed car - it won't smell very nice the next week. Very friendly staff got us water while we waited, too. It's not super convenient, but will definitely come back when in the area and craving Indian. read more

Come on. This was the pitts. First thing's first: I ordered the rotisserie 1/2 chicken. With it comes your choice of two sides. Unfortunately, there weren't many sides to choose from, and the few that I saw (macaroni salad, romaine lettuce tossed in dressing, or diced tomatoes) didn't look appetizing AT ALL. Moreover, the macaroni salad was uncovered and there were a couple flies in the standing area. Ew. Anyway, notwithstanding that, I pressed ahead with an order. (Don't ask me why because I haven't any answer for you.) I asked for the chicken to be accompanied by basmati rice. As I sat there waiting I watched the guy who took my order turn into a line-cook right before my eyes. He picked out an already cooked half chicken and walked it over to a fast cooker to reheat it. Once it was done il he placed it over the salad I didn't ask for, threw in the rice and range me up. The taste test: GAGS. All I could taste was salt. It was a sodium fiesta. The chicken was super super OLD and dry in many places, and there was still fat on it (not characteristic of actual rotisserie chicken). The rice was also apparently OLD. I didn't even bother with the salad bed underneath because I couldn't get past the first bite of the chicken. Total waste. This was the biggest let down I've had in a real long time. Indian Summer knows what it is and it doesn't try to be something it's not. It is purely an unpretentious take-out establishment. What do you get at such a hole-in-the-wall? A couple things: 1) Value. The prices are competitive with the area and there are numerous lunch and dinner special options. If ordering a la carte, you can choose from 4 different sizes, so it's easy to customize your meal and avoid overpaying. 2) A small menu, with a lot of attention to the main staples. The tandoori chicken is more elaborately prepared than at most restaurants. It's sweet and spicy and delivered smothered in onions. As for the curries, the chicken tikka masala has a nice, robust flavor. Not too much tomato, not too much yogurt. It's more balanced than usual. The korma is quite sweet. Spice level medium is satisfying. 3) Fast, personal service. Pick-up is usually ready in 15 or 20 minutes and they have their own free delivery. What do you NOT get? 1) You will NOT get a lovely dine-in experience. There definitely ain't no champagne brunch buffet. In fact, there's only one or two tables and they're not somewhere you want to eat unless you're desperate. 2) You will NOT get any worthwhile appetizers. Samosas are frozen garbage. The rice and the naans are fine, so stick with those. (Rice is available by the half-order and that's sufficient for one person) 3) You will NOT get plastic forks and spoons unless you ask for them! I have always gone to the SUBWAY next door to this restaurant and thought I'd try Indian Summer Grill for a change of pace. I love Indian food and was looking forward to trying it out. I saw on their menu they offered a plate option of my favorite Tandoori Chicken. Theirs came with mixed veggies and rice. I'm not a fan of certain mixed veggies sometimes and saw they also had salad on the menu. I went to place my order and asked if they could possibly substitute the mixed veggies with a small salad. I was more than happy to pay extra for it. But these 2 men rudely responded they couldn't. LMAO Are you kidding me? Isn't lettuce and tomato on a plate cheaper than adding veggies anyway? I got the impression they were racist and didn't care to serve me just by the way they poorly responded to me entering the restaurant. I've never heard of any restaurant that can't throw a few lettuce pieces on a plate to satisfy a customer especially if they already offer salad on their menu. I simply walked out and went next door to SUBWAY where i could get all the salad I wanted...with spinach at that for no additional cost!!!! That's fine, it's their loss. I suppose SUBWAY will be getting my money every time I come to this plaza. Also, I found an amazing go to spot for Indian food at a place not far from here on Sepulveda called India Tandoori that serves absolutely some of the freshest best quality delicious Indian food I've ever eaten!!! And they actually serve a beautiful green salad included when you order Tandoori chicken. Eh, it's OK. Portion sizes are small - except for the rice! A "full" order of rice is an entire styrofoam takeout container stuffed with rice, wrapped in cellophane. Would be nice for them to give an ounces (pounds?!) value instead of just "full" as we ended up with enough rice to feed a family of 8. We ordered the Chicken Makhani and Chicken Tikka Masala combo with veggies and rice. The Makhani was decent - not bad, but I've had better here in the South Bay. Not enough sauce either to dip my naan or cover my rice with. The Tikka Masala on the other hand I honestly didn't even have enough chicken to tell you if it was good or bad. The "combo" was 80% rice, with just a few veggies and chicken pieces topping it off. Barely started eating it and it was gone! And more rice, ugh!!! Both dishes had a few tough pieces of chicken in it. Low grade, cooked too much, etc. We also ordered a regular naan as well as a garlic naan. Both came mixed together in the same aluminum foil wrap. Good thing we both wanted the garlic, I guess? Some pieces were a bit tough, tasted reheated. Was good to try something new, but we'll be sticking with our usual, Spice Six in Hermosa. read more

This place was so good that after the fact, I had to email several people to track down which place catered because I want to visit. The yellow rice is the best rice I've ever had from an Indian place. It didn't clump and made for great leftovers. Now for the curry, not sure but I think it was either chicken tikka masala or butter chicken. It was delectable. The gravy was perfect, if slightly spicy. Yum! The garbanzo bean curry was just whatever. The naan was also just ok--there were many overcooked pieces. But it was catered, so I can give them a break. Good food, nice service, so why the one star? Unfortunately, the owner have no integrity. I had purchased some coupons through ITEX, a barter organization. I liked the restaurant so much, I actually purchased quite a lot! The owner decided he was not going to participate any longer, so I phoned and asked what I could do, since I really didn't want to return the coupons. He promised me he would honor the coupons for 50% of each bill. I told him how many I had and was assured that there would be no problem. 6 months later (after 2 or 3 successful visits) I called up to say we were on the way in and I was informed that the coupons would no longer be accepted, for any percentage of the bill. After reminding the owner of our agreement he said "I will give you a discount". But when I asked if it would be 50% he laughed and said oh no! By this time it was too late to return them to ITEX, because they had already settled up with Indian Summer. So, I paid for about $300 of food I will never get. So, one star. Too bad. read more
