Really good Indian restaurant which specializes in take out. That is, dont expect to eat there as its a very small place but if thats not an issue a really great place for Indian food. Prices are very reasonable and they dont skimp on quality or quantity. The menu isn't as large as a regular Indian restaurant, but the chicken tikka masala and samosa (I had lamb) was as good as anywhere I've had. The samosa in particular was crunchy and delicious, and they give you the mint cilantro and tamarind dipping sauces too. Two for $5 and highly recommend. The chicken tikka masala was also delicious and enough for 2 meals. Very creamy and with a lot of chicken pieces. Make sure you get enough rice. Also their naan which comes separate is made fresh and really good here. A minor negative is I didn't get any eating utensils or napkins with my takeout. Not sure if you have to ask or if that's standard practice or it was an accident, but thought it should be mentioned. Parking is free and shared with the other businesses in this tiny strip mall. Might be best to call ahead and pickup if you already know what you want. Theres very limited seating, like 1 table and a side bar you can stand at. Good food, nice service, so why the one star? Unfortunately, the owner have no integrity. I had purchased some coupons through ITEX, a barter organization. I liked the restaurant so much, I actually purchased quite a lot! The owner decided he was not going to participate any longer, so I phoned and asked what I could do, since I really didn't want to return the coupons. He promised me he would honor the coupons for 50% of each bill. I told him how many I had and was assured that there would be no problem. 6 months later (after 2 or 3 successful visits) I called up to say we were on the way in and I was informed that the coupons would no longer be accepted, for any percentage of the bill. After reminding the owner of our agreement he said "I will give you a discount". But when I asked if it would be 50% he laughed and said oh no! By this time it was too late to return them to ITEX, because they had already settled up with Indian Summer. So, I paid for about $300 of food I will never get. So, one star. Too bad. read more

This place rocks! For a lunch buffet, I mean the food is as good as you can get for lunch. Especially being in El Segundo of all places. I frequent here for lunch on occassion now and will continue to rock this place for good a time. The Tika Masala is wonderful. There's a little kick to it too. I love Indian food and really look forward to it, but this place is quite terrible. In fact, it is the worst Indian Food I have ever had and as an Englishman I find it offensive that these people sent this to my house and called it Indian. In short, if you want to have fatty, chewy lamb vindaloo with little taste or spice, or a dark meat butter chicken with cartilage, fat, skin and generally, just a bland, average mess sent to your house, then order from here. My girlfriend and I went last night and we really liked this place. Here were the main pros: -The service. The man who greeted us was not only courteous but also very eager to help us make good menu choices and kept following up to make sure we had what we needed. As far as I'm concerned, the service was as good as it gets. And the cooks were nice and friendly, too. -The food. I ordered a two-item plate with mild chicken tikka masala and paneer tikka masala, which came with basmati rice and naan. It was delicious, and portion size was large enough for me to take half home for leftovers. My lady ordered chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. She ordered hers much spicier, and married up to garlic naan. It, too, was very good. Here was the main sort-of-con: -Not dirt-cheap. Not terrible, but we still ended up paying $40 for two people, which we wouldn't've expected given how humble and tiny this place is. Overall, my lady and I loved this place and the eating experience and will definitely be back again. I'd also like to respectfully quibble with the two most negative reviews I saw on here, both of which cite non-Indian food in their complaints. Yes, for some reason this place does have pasta, salad, etc... but I'd recommend reviewers consider Indian Summer on the merits of their... wait for it!... INDIAN food. read more

Four stars for value combined with quality. I've been here for lunch a couple times recently, and have left very happy. The lunch scene is basic; a relatively large and modest restaurant with a hot buffet line in the back. You walk in, get a table and hit the food with plate in hand. You can be in and out in 20 min. if you want. The food is fresh and tasty - and not too spicy. Start with rice and salad and work your way down, adding curries and other traditional dishes. Go back for as much as you like, and finish off with rice pudding or mango dessert. Yum! The price for all this food? A mere $8 - and that includes the naan bread. I love to come here on Friday when I was in College. Since I love curry and naan, and they offer different kinds of curry in the lunch buffet. Can't come as often as I used to since I've been working. Recently they open for Sunday brunch, which is perfect for me as I live about 5 mins away. It wasn't as busy as the weekdays' lunch when all the office worker comes in town, so hopefully they will be able to keep the Sunday brunch going. read more

I grew up Hare Krisna. I KNOW INDIAN FOOD. Malai Kofta was creamy and delicious. Vegetable Samosas were tasty. I could eat them plain without the sauces. Sauces were great. Garlic naan had great flavor. I made sure to leave a soft piece of naan to wipe clean my plate! The sauces were so tasty. Mango lassi was thick and creamy. not too sweet. A 2nd meal in itself. Next time I plan to get a spicier chicken curry. I ordered mild. Next time I'm going to go crazy. Also want to try the channa masala. The service was great. Dinner for 2 on a Saturday night. Very attentive. Nice to speak with. I didn't have any problems paying with a Homerun (Groupon-ish) coupon. I tipped well. My fiance doesn't particularly like Indian food, but she loved Indian Summer. Formerly 'The Melting Pot' now 'Indian Summer'. Loved the former place and frequented it a lot, now with new ownership...NOT I am a creature of habit and always got the same Ceasar Salad. The new owner jacked the price by 2 bucks (for a salad), no more ceasar dressing & now have to pay for the half pita. THAT is not why I walked out today and will never go back. The new owner is rude beyond belief. Talk about no personality. What happened to greeting the customers with a smile? I am a local, but do not recommend this place to anyone local or not. Finally tried out thIs place after living here for a few years. Can't believe it took me this long to try this place out... so many wasted years..... Anyways, if you haven't been here before I highly recommend you check it out. I got the the chicken tikka masala which was good especially for the price. However, what stole the show for me was their naan. They give you a great portion straight from the tandoori oven and it tasted amazing. Also, after talking with the owner for a bit he told me they used to be at the location in downtown El Segundo where Sausal currently is (which is also an awesome restaurant) but they had to move when the building sold. For some reason I though they were pretty new due to their current location so it was cool to learn that they have been serving the community for so long. There is nothing really exceptional about Indian Summer. A few Raytheon employees who work in El Segundo either heard of this place, or have eaten there and liked it, so we all headed there for Sunday brunch. Since it was buffet, and I saw that on Yelp it was only 3 stars, I didn't have high expectations. Indian Summer BARELY made it over that standard. FOOD Average food. I'd come here if I have a HUGE appetite for Indian food. But if it's QUALITY that I want, I will be better off craving Indian food or going to a legit place than going here... They have the regulars: rice, naan, samosas, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, veggies, & desserts. Nothing too interesting to note... SERVICE There weren't too many patrons at the time I visited, and for their Sunday brunch to be advertised heavily - that's a bad sign in my book. Even with only a few customers, they sometimes forgot to check up on our drinks, or give refills for sodas. OVERALL Come here if you wanna EAT A LOT of Indian food on a Sunday morning. You've got that craving for Chicken Tikka and maybe some Lamb Vindaloo and absolutely no idea where to find a decent couple of dishes in the South Bay area. Wait, you say there's one nearby in El Segundo? Score! While the food is well-prepared, one might be disappointed to find out that even though their lunch buffet is serviceable, dinner was a little bit... different. First of all, and I'm usually not one to complain, our service was slower than your typical leisurely dinner. I don't mind taking my time, but when at least two groups are seated, served, and billed by the time you've just started eating, it's a little annoying. I also like to think that my palate for "spicy" is stronger stuff than most might be blessed with (its in the blood), but their "medium" drowned out what could have been a well-deserved tasty reward for my Indian-starved appetite. Other than its very convenient location in downtown El Segundo, I'd be hard-pressed to seek it out again for a quiet dinner. On the plus side, the Samosas and naan were excellent. I love chicken tikka masala, and was so disappointed by theirs. It was very blank and boring, and not spicy. All of the dishes were bland or even yucky. Well, I had a craving for Indian food while at work. Let me tell you guys, don't eat Indian food while at work. You will thank me for this bit of advice later. Anyhow, when i first came here with my co workers, the food was decent. Not anything like House of Tandoor in Brea. On a recent trip to kill my Somosas craving, I tried their Chicken Tikka Masala and immediately noticed two things wrong with it. 1. too salty 2. not enough cream I let it go. I came back again a few weeks later and the same issue. I feel that they are skimping on the the cream and offsetting the taste with more salt. My rule is that an Indian restaurant is only as good as their Tikka Masala. Won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Ambiance is a bit funky (which could be a good or bad thing) with the Bali-wood movies playing and ornate decor, but I suppose that just lends to the authenticity... I had mixed reviews from friends about this place, but it's been around forever, so I thought, well, I'm in the neighborhood, let's go for it. I'm glad I went, but I won't be back. I had the lunch buffet yesterday, and the positives - the saag was tasty and tender (the best thing there), the chickpeas in the chana masala were very tender (I hate it when they're hard), the vegetable curry had a pleasant sweet flavor, the naan was good (even with being in a steam covered dish, still good), the service was fine, no waiting, and plenty of food on the buffet to choose from. What I didn't like: --all of the curries were liquidy and runny --one piece of chicken tandoori was really spicy, the other not spicy at all (and I don't think it should be spicy) --the chicken vindaloo was not tangy at all, no flavor to the point that I was wondering if it was mislabeled, but I couldn't think of what other plain curry it could be --the chicken tikka masala was very very plain - it had the right color and the chicken was tender, but thin and plain --the pakora were very doughy Looking back at my comments - it looks like the vegetarian options are the way to go, but I still don't like thin curry. Perhaps a buffet isn't always the best way to judge a restaurant, but if you can do a good buffet, then I'm pretty sure the rest of your menu is going to be tasty and done well. The rest of the day made me really hanker for Indian food since this didn't satisfy, and I went out to dinner to my fave Indian place that night to make up for it. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times for lunch. The mere fact that I have been several times is an indication that I believe it is worth going back to. The lunch buffet is $10 and is all you can eat. They have several options (about 8-10) as well as salad and fruit for dessert. Most of the dishes on the lunch buffet stay the same, a couple can change from week to week. The staples are Chicken Tika Masala, which I find pretty solid. They use decent size chunks of white meat chicken. The spinach (saag) is also a staple which I find pretty good. They generally have lentills (daal) as well as a plenty of rice and bread (naan). I have only gotten the lunch buffet, never ordered off the menu. All in all, this is a solid place if you like Indian food. Pretty good value and selection. read more

Reviewing the luch buffet - They will bring out fresh naan which is rather tasty and nicely cooked. Some of the buffet items are good (tandoor chicken), others are just kind of average. Sometimes they run out of things - last time I was there I saw no samosas and tandoor chicken until I was about to leave, and no palak paneer either - these should always be available IMO. I've been here a few times for their lunch buffet and it's okay. The only issue I would say is that they never change their buffet items so that's why I only end up going maybe once every two to three months. $8.00 for an all you can eat buffet, not too shabby... The Tika Masala is pretty good. Definitely not the best I've ever had but tasty none the less. The Saag and Tandori are also a favorite but I feel could use more of a kick. (It is in a business area of El Segundo so that may be a factor.) The okra is also another dish to try, goes well with Saag. I am also a fan of that sweet rice pudding thing for dessert. Whatever its called, its dope! The service here is also quite attentive. The food is great! I tried it once and will definitely be back. We ordered 1) Paneer masala = sweet and creamy not bad! First time trying pander and don't think I like it much lol 2) Chicken masala = yummy same sweet and creamy sauce 3) Chicken korma = bomb sauce.com! So delicious. Absolute favorite! My husband and I wanted something different. I just so happen to work around the corner from this place so we decided to give it a try. We were greeted and promptly sat. The hostess had a smile and looked eager to explain the menu as I looked lost with all the descriptions. We decided on the garlic nan, mixed grill, some sort of eggplant fish and another side. Everything we ordered was VERY good! Every bite just exploded with flavor. Ive only had Indian food twice before but for some reason this time it tasted way different. This place is the only Indian restaurant in El Segundo (It's incredibly surprising that El Segundo even has an Indian restaurant). Despite everyone's caution, I tried it. It wasn't bad. Not good, not by any stretch of the word. The lentil curry was soupy, the spinach curry had no cheese. It didn't kill me. I didn't go to the hospital. If you're hungry, really hungry, and you want an approximation of Indian food for not too much money, then by all means, give it a shot. If you're in the mood for real Indian food, try another spot further afield. If you want a buffet that will fill you up, you could do worse. read more

Another one of places those I go by several times a week and have never been to, so since my regular lunch crew has been MIA for the last couple of weeks I have been going mostly solo these past few weeks and have tried a couple of places that we normally wouldn't try. Arriving a little after 11am there was only one customer in the place, but it was clean and the buffet looked decent so I decided to give it a try. Typical Indian dishes, Rice, Chicken Tikka Masala, Nan Bread, Tandoori Chicken, etc..... The food was hot and fresh, some of the chicken was a little on the dry side but other than that it was still tasty. Price was about $12.00 which is not bad but may be a little high for some people, nothing to complain about in the service department. Overall it was not a bad experience but I don't think it will make it into the regular rotation as there are other resturants that serve the same items that taste a little better with cheaper prices read more

This place offers a decent lunch buffet at a reasonable price. They offer a variety of chicken dishes: tandoori chix, chix tikka masala, and chix curry. The sauce for the tikka masala could be a little thicker and spicier but I always like a little more kick. Super yummy! We went in the evening and it was very quiet and intimate. The server was very friendly and recommended a great beer for the BF. I had the lamb tikka and it was quite good.
