Great food, lousy service. That's the short of it...for the long...read below: Indigma serves some of the best Indian food in Baltimore. (I have eaten at most of the restaurants in the city and the surrounding counties.) I have visited Indigma three times: twice for dinner - Saturday evening (live sitar!) and a week night; once for the Sunday lunch buffet. Both times I was equally impressed WITH THE FOOD. All the dishes that I have tried have a complex, high-quality ingredient, from-scratch taste. The curries vary, so the dishes are interesting. They also have different, regional dishes that are not always available at other restaurants. HOWEVER, the service is close to terrible - some of the worst I've experienced. I've had the same waiter twice. The first time he was unfriendly, impatient and not helpful, but the orders came quickly and the food was so good, I let it slide. But the second time (same server), he was rude, poured wine in my friend's water glass and failed to get her a fresh water, didn't give us any chutneys, (while all other tables received the usual complimentary servings) and didn't bring part of our order, which still appeared on the bill at the end of the night. The same hostess has been there each time and she is extremely awkward and talked to me like I was either incredibly amusing, an idiot or both. SO, go for the Sunday buffet - best Indian buffet. My friends and I were visiting Baltimore for Otakon this past weekend and decided to try this place one night for dinner. The host was very kind, and so was our server. They also have a very nice looking decor. I stuck with things I'd tried and liked at other places - Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan, which went great together. We also ordered Chocolate Kulfi for dessert. I've had kulfi before, but never chocolate. As great as my meal was, this dessert was even better. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for somewhere to eat, try this place out! And those with not very strong stomachs for spices, don't worry; they can go easy on it if you ask. read more

I am surprised I didn't write a review for this place sooner. First of all I never experienced their delivery or takeout, only their buffet. I have came here plenty of times for their buffet as it gives a variety of options for my diverse friends. Vegans, meat eaters and gluten free can enjoy an amazing meal together. Secondly I love the buffet style. I am able to try everything and find new flavors each time. I can also control my portions myself and that always makes me happy. As for the food, amazing! I am always delighted by the aroma and fragrances of the rices and spices. Also the owner is very nice and talks to customers directly. Hands down the best Indian that I've had in Baltimore! We ate here for lunch recently. I loved the concept of the mini personal sampler platters compared to the traditional buffet style. You have three options - non-veg (included lamb and chicken), combo (veg and chicken), and veg. Each platter comes with 9 small dishes plus rice, naan, salad bar, and dessert for $7.95-$9.95! Small lassis are available on the buffet for an additional $2. I got the non-veg and my husband ordered the veg. We sampled from both plates, but I much preferred the non-veg. Very flavorful, and delicious, and high quality! I can see how it was voted one of the most romantic restaurants in the city - it had a warm and cozy feel to it even during the middle of the day. Heaven on earth!!!! My husband and u were in our way to 'Kumari restaurant' when we passed by indigma, and we decided to give it a try!! The place itself is quite open and well lit unlike most Indian restaurant.. It even looks fancy because of the clean white table cloth, white napkins.. The plates were all square and modern!! Staff if very friendly and attentive!! The manager visits every table to see if everything is ok!! The food was just amazing!! I don't know how anyone can ever stop eating those tandoori chicken!! Service was extremely disappointing. They were rude the moment we walked in. Maybe they are not to keen on having families patronize their restaurant. Parking is on street, but we were glad to catch a front spot. :) We were there for a delightful party, so I'm not gonna put this place on blast like I may want to. The good: The larger room in the back is so beautiful. They decorated really nice. Oh yeah: The Food :) It was good. I pretty much tasted everything that wasn't listed as spicy. While I'm relatively new to Indian food, everything at Indigma was just awesome! We started off with this hard bread with a sweet and slightly curried green sauce. Next came the Avacodo Nirvana. Let me just stop here for a second. If you like avocados, be it in guacamole or just plain, you will freaking love this appetizer. Basically it was a pitted and skinned half of an avocado topped with this fantastic mango chutney mix and served ice cold. Wow, just wow. For dinner I tried their Salmon Mustard Masala (I think). The fish was done JUST RIGHT with a great topping of a sweet, stone ground mustard. Very tasty. Finally for desert, I had caramelized mango slices with vanilla ice cream and molasses. These negative reviews are confusing me. Indigma is AMAZING. There are several Indian places on that stretch of N. Charles in Mount Vernon -- Kumari, Mughal Gardens, Akbar -- and we've tried all of them. Indigma is my favorite. Indigma is also the only place in Mount Vernon we still go to eat after moving out of Mount Vernon. We've probably been there half a dozen times, which, I think, is the most we've been to any restaurant in Baltimore since moving here in July 2011. We'll usually get a combination of the Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, or Lamb Korma. The portions are great -- we always have food to take home, especially with the Saag Paneer -- and the naan and lassi are amazing. I'm genuinely confused about the disappointed reviews. Maybe it has something to do with takeout -- I'm not a lunch buffet person, but we came here once for that and it was also good. I guess the only negative thing I would say is that the spacing of the dining room is a little weird. Even when it's full, it feels a bit too big and too empty. The atmosphere at Indigma is very warm and inviting and I was surprised to see how big it was on the inside. Every single dish comes out on these beautiful square and rectangle plates which makes everything look very clean and upscale. The food here is absolutely delicious! I started with an open face somosa for an app an got coconut curry vegitables for dinner which I inhaled in about 10 minutes. There are quite a few vegitarian options to choose from, and they are all clearly marked on the menu. The prices are very reasonable, and my only complaint is that the service was slow. read more

Thumbs up* Friday night day after the Mount Vernon Washington Monument lighting- it was not busy. Good for us because we were hungry. DRINKS: Martinis and wine. They ran out of Malbec- both selections they had. No worries- just pointing out it's popularity or it's current status of being out of stock. I personally had "The fall" martini- it was perfectly fruity and strong but not overwhelming. ENTREE: 3 of us did the Prefix, all of which looked delish. The battered avocados were creamy and savory with the side sauces. They brought out 2 small bowls of fried naan with a square tray of 4 different sauces: green refreshing cilantro sauce, tangy sweet chili, lemon zest oil with rinds and chili, and a fresh veggie puree. All good, the tangy sweet chili was my fave. I personally ordered from the Indo-Chinese menu, Szechuan Lamb- lamb with caramelized onions peppers, glazed over a ginger spicy sweet soy sauce. It was packed with a very savory punch (a little salty to have by itself)....so the rice and garlic jalepeno naan (ordered on the side) was perfect with it. Dip- pack-munch....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm DESERT:One of us had ice cream with ricotto cheese. Very different- but definitely that sweet and (little) salty kind of desert. Recommend! I have been exploring Baltimore for my go-to Indian place. I tried Indigma one night for dinner. The architecture and color of the walls is very beautiful. The lighting was also perfect for a more intimate and romantic dinner. Very relaxing setting. We each ordered an appetizer, entree and dessert. It was some course combo deal. The food itself was good, but the portions were small considering the price. I would rate this place 3.5 just because it was pretty expensive. While it was yummy, it wasn't the best I have ever had. The atmosphere of the new location is lovely and the service is pretty great. Each time I go, I am recognized by the staff and thanked for visiting again. The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Tony, is very friendly and involved. I always see him visiting the tables, meeting the patrons and making sure they are having an enjoyable experience. The food is not traditional Indian food, but rather a gourmet, "modern" fusion. The spice levels tend to be low as a result, so if you like spicy food, just let your server know and you will be accommodated. My favorites at Indigma are the mango paneer and vegetable samosa small plates. I find the food is very fresh and the presentation is quite refreshing and enjoyable. I'm working my way through the menu, but so far I have been pleased with most everything. The rice dumplings and daal corn soup were bland, however, and I was similarly underwhelmed by the Balti Paneer. Still, everything else I've had has been very tasty and affordable. The buffet at Indigma is a gem. I think it's $9 for weekdays and $13 on the weekend. I've gone to the buffet just once, but it was highly enjoyable and filling. Compared to other buffets, Indigma's is extremely clean, expansive and I feel comfortable eating at it (which is VERY rare for me). On another note, the Taj Mahal Indian beer is a massive, sharable portion and is very crisp and refreshing. I am NOT a beer person AT ALL and I was actually able to drink and appreciate it. The chai is nice, just know that it is not pre-sweetened and the mango lassi is not as sweet as what you may find at other restaurants...it seems there is no added sugar, which is nice! I visited Indigma for lunch with my family, and we all had the "buffet." The food was excellent and so was the service. Great value too! We were very confused about the "table side buffet." It's basically like all-you-can-eat Indian tapas. They bring you a tray with 8 small square bowls with sampler portions of various Indian dishes. You can order as many refills on the individual bowls as you like. There's also a salad bar and dessert selection. The salad bar had a spicy chick pea salad, a mixed salad, and those Indian chips with various chutneys. For dessert, there were grapefruit slices, kheer (rice pudding), and halva. The food was absolutely delicious! It was great getting to try a whole bunch of different dishes that the restaurant offers. My favorites were a coconut chicken one and their chicken tikka masala. The chicken tikka masala was very different from any I'd had before. It tasted like buffalo chicken. Unexpected but delicious! All the dishes had quality ingredients and great flavors. Nothing was bland. It's probably more fusion than authentic Indian, but that's okay by me -- still delicious. I was very pleased, and I will definitely be back! read more

Loved the lunch buffet. I'm a fan of Indian food and thoroughly enjoyed myself. However, I'm taking a star away on behalf of my friend who doesn't like spicy foods. It would be great if they had one or two more options for people who aren't a fan of spice...but then again, that would take options away from us Spice-a-holics... like I said, I enjoyed it, but I'm including another opinion here, just to warn those who don't like spicy food. I remember Indigma as having a solid lunch buffet when I was here a year ago, but I stopped by the other day and was not impressed at all. Maybe it's because i've tried other places or their quality has declined. Either way, Indigma has fallen on my list of places to go. The lunch buffet was 13.99 and has all the typical offerings of an indian buffet (chicken tikka masala, etc.) but the only items I thought were not bad were the chicken w/ mushroom and fried fish. Everything else was so-so and it just didn't look or taste like the quality food I remember them serving in the past. It could have just been off day for them or something, but next time I'm thinking of going to an indian buffet, I'm heading to kumari instead. read more

Our experience at Indigma was pleasant but I cannot say that they have won my business. The location is great and the decor is nice. This is a very date-appropriate venue. The service was was very professional but also very slow. We were there for an hour and a half and we didn't even order appetizers or desserts! The owner was there talking with guests which was nice. The food was good but not great. Honestly, I have had better Indian fare from a food truck. The price you pay does not meet the quality of food you receive. However, if you are searching for an intimate date spot and not delectable Indian food as I was, this is definitely a place to consider. Two separate experiences at the same table: Seldom has yelp lead me wrong...This was one of those times. The service at Indigma was terrible. It took over an hour to get our entree (party of three) and there were a total of 8 diners in the entire restaurant. Others ate and left while we were left sitting and waiting...If you go to Indigma make sure it's your second dinner of the night because you will be left unsatiated and unsatisfied with the food and the service. Two hours after we sat down, we were still waiting for the desert. Whatever the cause, the result was the same: long waits for over-priced food. My food was vastly over-spiced: this was among the most highly spiced dishes I have ever had. After the first five bites, I traded with my girlfriend (aka Spice Expert); six bites later, she quit. Although I have no doubt this establishment has put on a grand meal on select occasions, our experience was sub-par compared to numerous other establishments we have visited in the Mount Vernon area. read more

Everything at the buffet was like warm to cold and that didn't add to the experience. I go to another indian restaurant almost weekly and we decided to give them a try because of the great feedback some people have given. I love Indian food, and I've been on a search for food as good as I had in India two years ago. I hadn't found it until INDIGMA! I only wish I lived nearby. I'd love to eat there all the time. We had an open-face samosa, gobi Manchurian, and a dosa. Everything was perfect. Plus, the decor is pretty. High ceilings, festively painted walls, and big windows provide a really nice setting. My only suggestion would be to clearly mark the vegan dishes or ensure the servers are more knowledgeable about the menu. Our server did not seem confident in advising us which dishes in the Vegetarian/Vegan section of the menu were in fact vegan. She initially told us the first three dishes were vegetarian and the remainder were vegan, until I pointed out that one of the "vegan" dishes listed cream as an ingredient. read more

We visited Indigma just before the holidays. I used to be a student at UB ages ago so neighborhood brought back many memories. The restaurant is housed in what was then the Albion hotel. Atmosphere is very pleasant and comfortable. Tony, the owner is most welcoming and walked us through the the dishes offered. Although I've been into Indian food for over five years, I'm not one for knowing names of Indian dishes, but everything offered was excellent - fresh, hot and tasty, but not too spicy. Horrible service. Waited 30 mins for server to take our drink order, another 20 mins for our appetizer, another 45 mins for entrees and got our check almost 25 mins after we asked for it. The server was not only slow but also rude. If the food is good, I am sometimes willing to overlook bad service but the food was nothing to write home about. The Gobi Manchurian was mushy. The Bhindi Pyaza (Okra with Onions) had no flavor and the portion was tiny. The garlic naan was dry and chewy. The basmati was ok, no issues. My partner's Chicken Tikka Masala barely contained any chicken pieces and again, was super bland. I was interested in trying the Grand Gulab Jamun for dessert but I didn't order it, the bad service made me just want to get the meal over with. Will not be returning. Bad service, bad food. I may have not gotten the regular experience here, as my Father in Law is a regular, and we did come for Sunday Brunch and ordered off the menu, rather than the buffet. However, the lamb was exceptional. I'm not sure where they are getting their lamb from, but it is probably wonderland. That good. The service was spot on. Had dinner here last night after finding this place at the last minute on Yelp. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! Since it's restaurant week, we all opted for the Prix Fixe menu...and had plenty of options to choose from. I started with the lettuce cups, and they were excellent! Then for dinner I had the lamb shank. Wow, talk about tender and delicious! My dinner companions tried the mussels and the sea bass. Everyone enjoyed their food a lot. I took advantage of Baltimore's restaurant week promotions to try out this restaurant on 8/3. My friend and I enjoyed a 4-course prix fixe menu. I started my meal with the batter-fried Broccoli Manchurian. The broccoli was flavorful and fairly crisp. I would have preferred it to be more crisp (tempura-style), but it was still vert tasty. My friend had Lesson Ki Chicken (tandoor roasted). The chicken was well-seasoned and moist. As an entree I selected the Kolcutta Chicken Curry. I opted for mild, but I think I would have enjoyed a little more spice. Even so, the chicken was tender and I enjoyed the rich curry flavor served with rice. My friend had the Aloo Gobi, a sort of potato mash with cauliflower and tomato that was a little dense, but still delicious. The naan bread was pretty standard but the accompanying naan dipping sauce was anything but. The mint cilantro chutney dipping sauce was fantastic! Finally, it's all about the ending - dessert. We had the Galab Jamun, which tastes like fluffy donut holes soaked in a light syrup. Great way to finish our meal! Service was attentive and friendly. I look forward to going back! read more

I simply don't understand these other reviewers talking about the bad service. My husband and I went here for our anniversary 2 weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. Ever since the fire, we've been waiting patiently for Indigma to re-open! Our dinner was absolutely delicious. We did the pre-fix menu, with apps, entrée, and dessert, along with drinks. Our waitress was friendly, efficient and very attentive. The owner came around near the end of our meal to see how we liked everything. When he found out it was our anniversary, he brought us complimentary cocktails for a toast. Great food, great service. We can't wait to go back! read more

First time I ordered after they reopened. I have to say I was very disappointed. The mango shrimp which I used to love was horrible. The shrimp did not taste like it had any mango in it. Food is as delicious as ever, in spite of the pandemic. Indigma has always had amazing food, but tonight we got the family platter vegetarian biryani for takeout and it was the best biryani we've ever eaten. The portion was huge for 30$ (would easily feed 5-6 people). I was also impressed that when I asked if they had pakora (not on the menu) the person working there offered to make some for me. It is clear that the food and service have both stayed superlative through these troubled times, and I can't wait to go back after COVID and enjoy the beautiful dining room and sumptuous lunch buffet! read more
