One of the best salon experiences I have ever had! I just moved into the southport corridor recently and had walked past this salon everyday. It was always busy and looked beautiful inside so I gave it a shot. When you first arrive they take your coat for you and offer you a cup of tea. I had Audrey as my stylist (she is a level 3), pricing varies depending on how experienced the stylist is, they range from beginners at level 1 up to a level 9. She was wonderful. She asked me all about the cut and color I was looking for and spent a good ten minutes talking with me about my hair even before she did anything. She did a wonderful job with my highlights and it came out beautifully. She also recommended a total moisturizing treatment for my hair which I decided to go for! It was an extra $15 (typically $30) but they cut the price in half when you are already getting a cut and color. This moisturizing treatment was so luxurious. Audrey used a salon quality oil all over my hair after she had shampooed and conditioned my hair, then another moisturizing mask over that and then wrapped my hair in a hot towel! You then sit for about 15 minutes while she gives you a great hand massage. I almost feel asleep a few times it was so relaxing! My cut also came out perfectly! I took about five inches off my hair, added long layers and framed the front. Audrey then styled my hair, gave me a wonderful blowout with curls at the end and it still looks great today after a night of sleeping on it. The pricing was pretty high but every penny was worth it! This salon is very zen like, relaxing kind of atmosphere, but every time that I've been there by myself, w/friends...the front staff has been so brrr cold, aloof & unfriendly. excuse me. This review is for the spa manicure. The overall spa experience and professionalism of the staff was great, but the manicure itself turned out horrible. It seemed like it may have been the quality of the nail polish, but my nails look clumpy and like I did them myself at home. The tips of the nails are already chipping less than a day later. And to top it off- this manicure cost $40. I have had $11 manicures that have looked way better. read more

The worst hair cut and salon I have ever been to- and they deleted my previous post after they asked me to email them and then never responded! I went in for a trim and they proceeded to chop off 6 inches of my hair (I had to take my glasses off so I had no idea how bad it was until I left). Not only did it take months to grow back (still not at the length) it was totally lopsided! There were chunks that were several inches longer then the rest. When I called the salon they said I had to come in with wash and dried hair (and to straighten it because they couldn't wash it and cut it) AND that I would have to pay to have them fix their own mistake. I used to work in the industry so I was very polite about the situation but the staff was terrible. I got my hair cut at Aveda institute for years- I never had a bad hair cut there and it was so much cheaper. Definitely would not recommend ever going to this salon! read more

I have had two excellent haircuts here with Isabelle and highly recommend this salon! Everyone who works here is very friendly and welcoming and they take a lot of time to make sure they address everything you could have concerns about when it comes to your hair. Isabelle was able to recommend the right products for me without coming across as pushy or salesperson-y. She also ave me a scalp massage and an arm massage each time which was so relaxing and an unexpected extra. The price was also very reasonable and I love how good my hair smells with the Aveda products after my haircut. I stopped by Indira salon at random because I desperately needed a haircut & I am so glad I did! I am tired of spending too much $ for average cut/color/service so I was thrilled to get a "junior" stylist. Isabel is UNBELIEVABLE and is the reason I will continue to go back. She is so well spoken, did her very best to understand exactly what I wanted, knows the Aveda products very well and was able to suggest products that would be useful for the current condition of my hair. Most importantly, the cut was perfect and I cannot wait to go back for color. Isabel gave a total head/scalp/neck massage as I received a botanical treatment and then again while it was setting before rinsing. I love this salon! I love Aveda products as well. I have very difficult hair to cut curly underneath and straight frizz on top. Collin was the lucky guy to give me a haircut and highlights. I told him specifically what I wanted and explained how my hair shows every cut line. Collin did an amazing job of blending my haircut. My color is also perfect! I have long thick curly/wavy/frizzy hair. I wait as long as I can to get a hair cut out of fear of what the hairdresser will do to me. I have cried over so many disastrous nightmare cuts where the hairdresser just doesn't listen to my concerns. Well, no more. I went to Chaz at Indira for the first time and he made me feel right at home. I was shampooed, cut and finished all by him. No passing the client off to multiple people here, love that! He threw in a free color consult and booked my color appointment for me. I love that because I never know what to ask for when booking color. My hair cut is amazing! I haven't been this happy with my hair in years! He took the weight off and made it shiny and frizz free. He also left the length as I asked and still got rid of the damaged ends. I couldn't ask for more and feel like a million bucks! I can't wait for my color appointment. He is going to bring the warmth back to my hair. I've been seeing Shara for two years straight now (my first long term relationship with a stylist- haha!) and I love her! The whole experience - peppermint oil head and shoulder massage before the haircut and hand massage during the hairwash - is incredibly relaxing. I feel their prices for services are very fair for the service you get. Their products are on the expensive side but Aveda products are worth it in my opinion. Also, when I stop in to get a dog biscuit with my dog, the staff are always friendly and love petting him. read more

This salon was fine, except that when my boyfriend and I showed up literally two minutes late for our 9:30 appointment (there was no one else in the salon at that time...), Mandi, the person in charge of his facial, threw a small temper tantrum and snidely reminded us that facials were a "timed service" prior to storming off for a few more minutes. I went to Indira for the first time a few days ago, and I have found my new stylist. I moved to the city a few months ago and I've survived a couple bad hair cuts. I went here with my best friend and Anna (she's a junior stylist) cut our hair. Not only was she patient, and listen to exactly what I wanted (she even looked up pictures when I couldn't quite explain how I wanted my bang), she really knows what she's talking about! It's obvious she is well trained and loves what she does, plus she's such a total sweetheart. I have been waiting a long time for a quality Aveda salon to open near my condo. Thank you Indira for filling that void. I would highly reccomend this salon to anyone looking for a good cut and color in an amazing neighborhood that is easily accessible by CTA or car (parking is plentiful and easy to find). When I first visited the salon, I was amazed by the decor. It is very open and airy and also has some really cool restored fixtures that give the salon a great relaxed, yet edgy vibe. The salon is right on Southport, and has a ton of windows, allowing for great eye candy while your there. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. My appointment started right on time and I did not have to wait at all. I visited Kacy for my color and bang trim. She is an amazing colorist and I would trust her with any color assingment, no matter how harrowing. I of course love the all natural Aveda products and the way they make my hair feel. Kacy is easy to talk to and makes an otherwise mundane day at the salon a ton of fun. I am so happy Indira is here. I can't wait to go back and try their spa services. I walked past Indira Salon a few times and was finally drawn in by the amazing smell of Aveda products! Who doesn't love the scent of Aveda? Unfortunately, that is about all that is good about this salon from my experience. The first time I came, the girl who cut my hair rushed through my cut, asking what I wanted and delivering a bland cut. It did not grow out well and did not have much shape to it. I decided to come back and try a new stylist, thinking maybe I just got unlucky the first time. Wrong. The second cut I got was even worse. I decided to get some shorter side bangs. The girl cut them so poorly that I had to come back in later that evening because they were completely uneven with one long piece sticking out awkwardly. When I came back in, she "fixed" them without getting them wet, so they were not laying properly. They were even this time but did not look good. I will not be returning. read more

I am signed up to receive daily emails from Indira about specials they have. I have only been there once and it was for a facial, that was half price thanks to the email deal. The woman that did my facial was great, Colleen. She was very helpful with tips for my skin type and controlling acne and oily skin. The only think I didn't like, was when I went to check out. The man that rang me up tried to charge me full price for the facial. Then when I commented that it was supposed to be half price he said "Oh, I'll have to go check on that." He came back and everything was all straightened out- but the whole thing left me with a sour taste in my mouth. It kind of seemed like they were trying to scam me into paying full price. I will be back if the timing of one of their e-deals works out for me again, because they are a GREAT DEAL. But just beware that you may have to push back when they try to charge you full price. read more

I've been going to Indira Salon on Southport for the past couple of years. I've been exceptionally happy with my hairstylist, Lauren, and the salon overall. That is.. until today. When you book services in advance you are rewarded points for doing so, and you are rewarded additional points once you have had the actual service. I've come to accumulate quite a few points and decided I would use them toward a free facial for myself. My facial appt was scheduled for 7:45pm today and I called Indira at 1:00pm to let them know my family decided to come to the city and I would need to reschedule it for next week so I could have dinner with them. The MANAGER, Candace, then told me that since I didn't provide them a 24 hour notice, I would be charged $70 for the service. YES, charged $70 for a free facial that I earned from spending money there?! Though I'm very understanding to the fact policies are in place, especially with spa services, I would expect as a loyal customer to have been told no problem, you can reschedule (not cancel) your free facial for next week. What's even more upsetting to me was that Candace really didn't seem to care that I told her I didn't appreciate her level of customer service, the fact they wanted to charge me $70 for this earned service, and that I would be spending my money elsewhere moving forward. It must be nice to have such a profitable salon where you could care less that someone who has spent thousands is taking their business elsewhere and that your stylist (Lauren) has now lost a client. VERY disappointing. Though you'll probably get an exceptional treatment here from an Indira stylist, I can't say the same for the salon manager, Candace. read more

I am definitely a fan of Indira Salon. This location just opened up in my neighborhood and I noticed it when walking by. I also received a coupon in the mail for $30 for four different services and decided to try them out for their elemental massage. I made the appt same day and they were able to get me in with Steph. I arrived on-time and Steph walked me into the room and walked me through their methodology and talked about what I wanted her to focus on during the massage. Overall, I was really happy with the massage. Steph did a great job of focusing on my trouble areas we covered during the introduction. Only reason I am giving four instead of five stars is it wasn't the best massage I've ever gotten; however, it was pretty great. Steph even gave me a discount coupon for my next visit which was greatly appreciated. I'll definitely go back - great location, nice/helpful staff, clean and updated facility, and aroma therapy. The atmosphere at Indira is very calming and enjoyable. The warm towel during the hair washing was nice, the hand and arm massage relaxing. But my god, my hair cut was awful! It was slanted in the back and noticeably uneven in the front! The stylists there practically force you to come back for something else and being a quiet timid person, I agreed. When I came in for a coloring, the stylists dyed it about four shades darker than we had agreed on and it was SO BLOTCHY. My roots looked like leopard print. I came in with pretty dry hair after bleaching it myself but it was in no way breaking off or falling out -- after the dye job I went home and combed about half of my hair out. I cried all night. Even if my hair was damaged before, you should know what products NOT to use on it to make it worse -- come on, no professionalism or integrity at this place -- they just want your money. I ended up having to cut all my hair off, and spent a ton of money just to have to cut my hair off. This place is ridiculous and aggravating. read more
