I took my mom and sister out last night for an early Mother's Day dinner. To keep it short, this restaurant is beautiful and the food is so so tasty but they are seriously fumbling how highly rated they could be because the service and dining experience really is terrible. From the moment we walked in, no one was warm, no one even welcomed us, we had a reservation and still waited to be seated. The host was not friendly. Our waiter didn't even introduce themselves and it took us 30 minutes to get water after asking. Our drinks came out all at separate times, I had to remind him for my mom's prebiotic soda, which he served in the can, no glass and didn't open it. Our meals all came out at different times as well. Overall no one had a sense of urgency, no one seemed to prioritize a good dining experience, and it was so disappointing because again the food and ambience was there. I used to LOVE indochine, starting with their tiny cafe in federal way! It's been years since I've been, mostly because there were inconsistencies that last few times I'd gone... Went again last night and what a bummer - I got my go-to items and they're totally different. Not bad! Just not the same... Too salty and garlicky for my liking but to someone who doesn't know what the OG meals tasted like, it may be fine. We walked from the Marriott hotel & it was only about a 5 minute walk through the University of Washington-Tacoma. It's a very nice & quiet area. The food was mostly good. We ordered vegan dishes & regular dishes. I only didn't really like the Crab Wonton (too fishy & soft), the coconut prawns were really good, the shrimp fried rice was just okay, needed a little more flavor, the wonton soup was good & the Buddha tofu plate was good. Even though we heard Russel sold the recipes, the food is clearly not the same. We recently celebrated my sister's graduation at Indochine Asian Dining Lounge with a party of about 14 people. Unfortunately, the service we received did not match the level we expected, especially considering our bill was over $500+ Our server, Curtis, rarely checked on our table throughout the evening. One of our drinks was forgotten entirely, and when we reminded him, his response came across as rude and dismissive. We also requested two empty bowls for the babies in our group so we could make them plates. When we followed up on the request, we were met with, "She already told me that," which felt unnecessarily rude when we were simply providing a reminder. My salad came out about 15 minutes after the entire party already had their food. Our waters went unrefilled for most of the meal and were only replenished near the end of our dining experience when we sought him out and reminded him. Even then, the server stood holding the glasses and waited for guests to take them from his hands rather than placing them on the table. Throughout the meal, empty plates and glasses accumulated, and our party ended up moving items ourselves to create space. As we were leaving, our group walked past our server without so much as a "thank you" or "have a nice evening." My family has extensive experience in the service industry, and I am currently a server myself. I understand that busy nights happen, but the overall attitude we received made our party feel like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. We came to Indochine to celebrate Father's Day for my partner with his two boys, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning--warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed with beautiful decor that instantly sets the mood for a special meal. The food? Marvelous. Every dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. From the appetizers to the entrees, each bite was a hit with the whole table (including the kids!). The staff was kind, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome throughout our visit. This was our first time here as a family, and it definitely won't be the last. The restaurant has a cool vibe, and the host and server were friendly. We had reservations, so we were seated right away. Our server greeted us and took our drink orders promptly. The service was great, and we got our drinks and food pretty quickly, even though the restaurant was fairly packed. However, the food was very mediocre. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, and having tried many Thai restaurants, everything we had was just okay. The Pad Thai and fried rice were bland, the honey walnut prawns were so breaded, I couldn't even taste the prawns, the crispy tofu had no flavor other than the sweet chilli sauce it was drenched in. The only thing I really enjoyed was the Thai Iced Tea and the coconut dessert. I'd be open to trying other menu items, but overall, I was unimpressed with the food. read more

Such a beautiful restaurant with amazing service and beautifully plated meals! Making a reservation on Yelp was the best way to avoid the wait around dinner time. There are a variety of staple Asian items here, so it's like hitting all different restaurants in one. The dishes are quite a large portion, we were able to share bites with everyone at the table. The dishes were also good but I maybe would stick to going to a Viet place for Vermicelli Noodles and then a Thai place for PadThai, etc. It is a bit pricy but the experience is good at least once! read more

I've used the back semi-private rooms for dinner talks. In the past I have not had issues, but this most recent visit was remarkably different. 3 hosts at the front ignored me after I entered and so I stood there alone for 4-5 minutes, before I marched up to one of them to ask where my party was seated. I was pointed down the hall and to the right. It was obvious I was intended to go seat myself. I found my party, and my people said they went up to check what the delay was and had been told they were forgotten by the servers. The table and drink menus were sticky. Waters were never refilled and I was parched. Food came late. Dishes were overall tasty, my favorite was the panang chicken curry, fried rice, and crispy fish. The least favorite was the lettuce wraps, and also these came much later after the rest of the dishes were delivered. 2 stars since the food was tasty. Hosts seemed stressed. This is a staple in Tacoma. One of our go to spots. Especially for scenery and presentation. It's a very nice spot for a nice date. Indochine is under new ownership, and although it's mostly the same, I have noticed the portions are a smaller. It's not a huge deal. We still had leftovers, but it's not what it used to be. The food was all phenomenal as always. Very flavorful. My one complaint was that the phad thai was very salty. It was tasty, but I'm glad we were sharing to cleanse the palate a little. I have lived in the Tacoma area for 11 years and never tried this restaurant. My wife and I went there for lunch with a group of 15. Normally, not open for lunch but they opened just for us. The atmosphere is dark and comfortably private. Russel B served all 15 of us quickly and accurately, separate checks and all. The menu items were all in the $15-$22 range but they were big enough to share with 2 people. Almost everyone took home a to go box. We ordered the firecracker fried spring rolls and they were very good. We got 4 large ones for $14.60. Rice is $3 extra and house wine and draft beer are only $6. The drunken beef noodles and the Panang Curry chicken were great but the star of he show was the Honey Glazed Walnut Prawns that some of our fellow diners ordered. This is one of the best Asian restaurants we have tried in the Seattle Tacoma area. We will definitely be back. read more

Haven't been here in a pretty long time. Wanted somewhere a little bit fancy to take my daughter for a girl's night out and Indochine was the perfect spot. We were seated right next to the water in the middle of the room, the ambiance was nice - soft lighting and warm tones. My daughter picked our dishes - chicken Phad Thai and Orange chicken, and we started with the delicious pan fried potstickers. Both dishes' so-called mix of vegetables had once piece of broccoli each with a ton of onions and some random carrots and other bits and bobs. Which vegetable is cheapest, do you think? And the piece of chocolate cake we ordered to celebrate our anniversary was so tiny it looked like they cut a slice in half. It was rich and delicious, at least, so a star there. She barely acknowledged us, never once checked to see how we were doing, and didn't even offer a single refill. SMH. To top it off, she brought us glasses of water, and mine had someone else's lipstick still on it. Absolutely disgusting. I pointed it out to another staff member, who said they'd tell our server... but she straight-up ignored us. Didn't apologize. Didn't even bother to remove the dirty glass. Just left it sitting there like it was normal. Gross and disrespectful. Now to the food. The only thing we really liked was the toasted sesame chicken appetizer that was a solid 8/10. Crispy and flavorful. Everything else? Forgettable. The chicken Pad Thai was bland, barely had any sauce, and lacked flavor completely. And to make it worse, we ordered mango shrimp fried rice and they brought out chicken instead. When we mentioned it, nobody cared. No apology. No correction. Just careless. Honestly, the server's attitude and the dirty glass completely killed the vibe. Don't expect good service here they suck at it. There are some tables in the front of the restaurant that look like they are "average floor height". Our seats were alongside the pool. The wooden benches have no backs, but are not uncomfortable for a long dinner. FOOD - 5 stars Our server recommended a couple of drinks. I wasn't so sure about the description, so she brought me a sample (it was a served in a full flight glass!). Drinks / Alcohol SEASONAL CIDER. My sample was a seasonal cider that was worth the pint. And cost the same as a regular pint at a pub. AUTUMS UP. Seasonal mixed drink. Delicious. A little expensive, but a fun holiday drink. Appetizer CRISPY TOFU. This is like all of the crispy tofu you've had before. All the good kind. It's fried well. still juicy but crunchy. And LOTS of it. But the sauce was the key. Our server gave us a special sauce that was usually on a different vegetarian app. SO GOOD. Could be a little spicier, but tasty. THE BLACK SEA. A seafood plate with black rice. My wife loved this. On a cooler night, this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that fills you up and makes you feel comfy-toasty. Gluten Free! BURMESE NOODLES / VEGAN BEEF. Get spicy. Spicy spicy. The noodles are nicely cooked... and there are a lot of noodles, but plenty of veg in here. It's a good portion too. I mean. C'mon. You had a drink. You can take an easy tram ride or walk. Indochine is my go-to venue for a birthday dinner! As someone with a dairy allergy and gluten sensitivity Thai food is most often what I will choose as most things are naturally gf/df without the need for special accommodations. This place is fancy and feels like you're going someplace special as well which is fun. They also have larger tables/spaces you can reserve for a party which is why it works so well for special events. That said, while the food is good, I still find the smaller places in town tend to taste better. Of course with any fancy place it shows up in the bill - it's a little on the pricier side, but their portions are pretty huge so that's a plus! The service has always been a bit mixed for me. Sometimes great, other times it's felt as though the person wasn't paying attention (wrong items given etc.), and most recently the person waiting our table seemed very rushed and we had to order 3 separate times because they would leave after one answer without waiting to hear if we were finished. The one thing I will rave about is their cocktails! The coconut martini and the drunken Buddha were both delicious! I've also had a non-alcoholic cocktail that was incredible! All in all, 4 starts because despite some of the drawbacks, it's still my go-to for birthdays! She forgot a couple of our dishes and after waiting quite a while and reminding her we ended up actually canceling a couple of the orders. All in all, they were quite busy and the food was absolutely delicious. The sauces were amazing and for some of us that's what really finishes the dish. Hats off to the saucier! This restaurant is apparently remodeled recently and has a very pleasant ambience. The server was very friendly and only told us how "popular" each dish was rather than giving us clear recommendations when asked. The four of us shared a Crying Tiger Beef Salad, Cashew Chicken, Shaking Beef, Drunken Beef Noodles, Crispy Fish in Ginger and Basil on Fire. The salad was tasty, but many of the beef cubes in the salad were rather chewy (about 2/3 of those that I had). The Shaking Beef had the same beef cubes that also tended to be chewy, and the flavor was quite bland. The battered fish cubes in the fish dish were deep fried, and the sauce was quite sweet; even though the taste was not bad and might characterized as Americanized Chinese with a modern twist, the deep frying and "sweetening" would be a concern for people who want to control their glucose and saturated fat intake. The best of the 5 dishes were the Cashew Chicken and Drunken Noodles, both of which I would rate 4 out of 5. We came here for a Christmas present exchange after Christmas and had a large group with 9 people. We snagged the fancy circular table in the corner. It looks like the seats are on the floor because the table is built into a platform. It created a little bit of difficulty with our grandpa for getting in and out but it looks so cool and is very cozy and private. The service was amazing - I wish I could remember our waiters name because he was funny and attentive. He was very aware of dietary restrictions even to the point of asking if fish sauce was okay in the pad Thai. As a vegetarian I asked if the vegan option was without the fish sauce, and he informed it was fish sauce free! The vegetarian/vegan options were clearly marked. It's a great option for an upper scale Asian Fusion restaurant for a date night. Prices are on the higher casual side, but we're in WA state so it's common that meals at restaurants like this will be $20-$30 average. The food isn't bad, but it's also food you can get at cheaper Asian restaurants. Fried rice? It's like $20-$25, which you can get for $15 somewhere else. You are paying for the ambiance of the restaurant in my opinion. The service was great though. The waiter refilled our waters and asked us how we were doing mid service. Would I come here again? This afternoon my family and I had lunch at your restaurant. We have been regular customers for more than 15 years and have always had positive experiences, which made today especially disappointing. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt off. There were children playing in the lobby, and a woman I assumed was the hostess appeared to be watching them. As we were led to our table, we passed several tables that still had food and dirty dishes on them. Our own table was not clean when we were seated. Our server seemed annoyed from the start and not very welcoming. A different employee wearing blue rubber gloves brought our drinks, which felt unusual and unprofessional. While the food itself was still decent, it was not up to the quality we are used to, and the portions were noticeably smaller than what we've received here in the past. After our meals were delivered, no one checked on us, refilled our water or sodas, or asked if we needed anything. Looking around the restaurant, I noticed at least four other tables that still had dirty dishes sitting on them. Even the pond, which used to be a nice feature, had dirty spoons and trash floating in it. When we were finished, we had to ask for the bill, which took a long time to arrive. As we were leaving, several people who appeared to be employees were eating their lunch in the lobby area. This did not feel sanitary or professional for a restaurant with such a strong reputation and so many positive reviews. I'm not sure what has changed, but I hope this feedback is helpful. I personally thought the crab wonton (received for free) was the best item we got for a starter. The firecracker fried spring rolls had no flavor to me and the coconut prawns I couldn't even taste the shrimp. I got the Piquant pepper Calamari for an entree and it was much larger than I expected. The calamari was a little too spongy and definitely needed the sauce that they provided. My husband got the Panang curry with jasmine rice: He stated it had a sweet taste and he enjoyed it. Fantastic dinner with family at Indochine. The restaurant is downtown on Pacific, busy area, parking can be limited. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful! Dimly lit, water feature in the middle of the tables. We sat in a cozy booth that was really private and intimate. I ordered the sesame wraps for my dish, homemade flat bread with sweet chicken with garlic and cashews- delicious. My son had the orange chicken which I thought stole the show.
