Alright so tonight started off great when I first called the restaurant to make sure that my fiancé, who has a shellfish allergy could eat there, and I was told "absolutely yes!". So we show up and the restaurant is definitely understaffed, which is familiar to me as I also work at an understaffed restaurant. We finally get a hold of the host and are politely seated at a table. Our server, Darrell, was fantastic! We told him about the allergy and he instantly recommended items that we stay away from. We ordered drinks and they came out in no time and they were perfect! We were definitely excited for the food. We started off with some edamame and we didn't even get through half of it and our meal was already arriving. It was.. suspiciously fast. I mean it came out in under 5 minutes of us ordering. My fiancé ordered the Pad Thai Noodles and I ordered the Drunken Noodles. Her meal was alright, at best, but she found egg shells multiple times and then an object that we can only describe as a rock. My noodles were not good. They lacked flavor and the chicken tasted like literal nothing. It tasted like it was sitting in a steam well in nothing but slightly salted water. I couldn't finish it. We finished the meal off with what they advertise as a lava cake, but in actuality it is a dense chocolate cake that is sitting on top of chocolate sauce. The cake was flavorful for sure, but it was definitely just a cake- no lava. When we told our server- who was also working 5 other tables and making drinks- about the eggshells, rock, and cake, he seemed genuinely taken aback. He brought it to the Chef or manager maybe, then came back rather bothered because whoever he went to told him to do "nothing". He was kind enough to go ahead and void at least the cake from our ticket. I saw and heard fairly decent things about this place, but we will not be going back. **update** I know restaurants are not perfect, but my fiancé happened to get sick, even though we were enthusiastically and confidently told she would be fine. We ate at Indochine on an Artwalk night. We were seated quickly and staff was helpful and friendly. I found the environment to be inviting, cozy and romantic. Doesn't look like a nice place from the outside. Walk in and go up the the stairs which have neat painted murals of Buddha and lotus flowers. The inside is decorated tastefully with a nice traditional and modern flair. I had a generous portion of shrimp pad Thai, which was perfectly cooked and flavored. We were super excited that they could seat us immediately but the distance between our table and the next was literally inches. We could literally hold whisper conversations with them. I get it we are past the scare phase of the pandemic but Geesh! I ordered the snapper, the description said it was a whole fish. I was expecting a whole fish like you see on the pictures but it was a snapper fillet. The meal was decent, the fish wasn't crispy, it was kind of soggy. It wasn't a terrible meal, I just had higher expectations. Two other people in my group had to send their food back because they ordered a 3 spice level but their mouths' were on fire. My only regret was not taking any photos! We stopped by on a work trip for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and we were greeted with the most Southern hospitality I've experience in a long time! The server was amazing - she gave excellent recommendations and checked on us numerous times throughout lunch, refilling our waters and generally being very attentive. Per her recommendation, we had the curry crab Rangoons to share. Delicious! I got pad see yew, a staple for me at Thai restaurants, and my coworkers got yellow curry and the drunken noodles. Nestled above Burrito Gallery is Indochine, a swanky Thai restaurant in the middle of Downtown. The atmosphere alone prompts a first visit. The staff were all very nice, although I don't think I'm out of line for saying our server was anything but in a clear state of mind. Toke it, brah! Appetizers hit the table in a timely manner. Long strands of light and crispy Calamari and golden brown crab rangoons made acquaintance with my mouth in seconds. Both good, but nothing memorable. Onto the main course. Well, our server may have been a little too relaxed, because he swapped my chicken for my girlfriends tofu order. Once they remade our dishes, we were prepared to dive in. The Panang Curry with Chicken was incredible! Often with curry dishes, there's usually one ingredient that isn't cooked properly, specifically a vegetable. The potatoes, chicken, and veggies were perfect. And the sauce was dynamite. Based on our experience with so-so appetizers, botched dishes, and slow service, I think they'd warrant two stars. But, the Panang Curry was too legit to quit! Everyone has run-of-the-mill nights. Indochine's big open space gives value to the intimidate, hidden date night spot we're all looking for. I remembered this restaurant, and how cute it was, but didn't remember the name of it, so wasn't sure it was the same place until I walked up to it. The food is phenomenal. I was so excited to go here. My friend has been a customer for years and hyped them, so we went today for lunch. Everything was going well, until we were mid-meal. The salad she ordered arrived much later than anticipated, after everything else and she was understandably full by this time. She conveyed this to the waiter (he claims to also be the owner). He asked if she wanted boxed, and she said she didn't want it anymore, at which he clearly became enraged and retorted "WELL YOU ORDERED IT, SO IT'S STAYING ON THE CHECK!" and ran away visibly angry. He then proceeded to rant about us to the staff about her cancelled salad. He took my food, that I was only halfway done with, did not offer to get me a box and put the other dirty plates on top of my dish when I was stating I was hoping for a box. but proceeded to charge me the full $37 for the half a plate i was able to eat before his theatrics. He proceeded to berate my friend and tell her he was the owner and ask her if she ever ran a restaurant. We simply wanted the check at this point. He made us wait while he ranted about this salad and chugged a drink at the bar while his staff tried to calm him down. and yes, yes he was and my friend is not. so it was evident what this was about to us. Local nurse with celiac disease and a cows dairy allergy. Born and raised in the restaurant industry and worked in it for many years. Thai is the safest food for someone with allergies to eat (usually). Additionally from how sick I am writing this review, we waited 34 min for our drinks and over an hour for our food, while the table next door o us got very quick service:/ This review isn't focused on the service being bad... but the sickness that came from the food. Only places trying to cut cost use dairy rather than coconut milk in traditional curry. Thankfully I asked to be sure and the server said they could sub coconut milk per request. I get green curry EVERYWHERE in town, weekly at Green Papaya and or Tasty Thai. Never in my travels as a nurse (for work) have I ever gotten sick form Thai food. When the server brought the food I triple checked to make sure it was coconut milk as it didn't taste like traditional curry.... He insisted it was. I let him know cows dairy sends me to the ER. He assured me it was fine. Since 8 pm last night I've been in the fetal position in pain and sick , but I'll spare the digestive details. A trip to the urgent care has also ensued. From a nurse and long time food industry worker and patron, please please take people serious when they express they have a food allergy. This wasn't an impossible ask such as going to a pizzeria where everything is covered in flour. The wrong milk was used. A simple swap. Outside of the fact that true Thai cooking always uses coconut milk so I feel you're cutting corners using cheaper product ...It takes 10-14 days to clear dairy out of the body when you become ill due to a serious allergy . Was hoping to find a new fav Thai place, instead spent my bday night on the bathroom floor. Sadly won't be returning :( read more

Great lunch at Indochine. I ordered the chicken Laab salad and shrimp Pad thai, both Thai Hot. Both menu items were fantastic and noteworthy. The Lamb Salad was the best. The depth and diversity of flavors on the palate were top notch. Salty, sour, spicy were all in perfect balance. I have to note that while the Thai Hot was not over the top, it hit the mark with a great balance of both fresh and dried Chili. The Server said the portion sizes were huge, but I found them both to be moderate. The Pad Thai I was served was my favorite style; dark, a bit charred, salty and sweet, with a variety of balanced textures. My only critique is that it was bit too balanced. I felt like it should have leaned a little bit more in one direction or the other. My preference would have been a bit sweeter, or a bit more sour. Overall though, I definitely enjoyed this version of pad Thai. If I were to base my score on the salad, I would give this location a 5 star, on the pad thai, a 4 star. The overall score has to be 4 due to the service. My waiter was kind and helpful, but they were very busy and he had way too many tables, so many elements of great service were missed. I asked for Diet Coke, I received coke. I asked for a spice tray and it was not brought out till halfway through the entre. He was extremely rushed and unable to attend to everyones needs. This diamond in the rough is hidden upstairs above Burrito Gallery. After taking the stairs to the second floor (yes they have an elevator) you come across a decent sized room with high ceilings and quaint decorations. We were seated immediately despite it being a Saturday night. It was at about 60% capacity upon arrival, 5% when we left. The service was impeccable with our waiter being on top of our drinks, checking in, and getting our checks. We orders my favorite- the crab ragoons. They come with 5 and have a hint of curry flavor. A bit different from normal but just as good or maybe even better. For my entree I ordered the red curry with chicken and a 4f for spice level. The curry came with a bunch of fresh vegetables but the chicken was a bit overcooked. I normally can handle heat but 4 was a bit too much for me. It's always hard to gage just how spicy it will. We came here with a party of 20 so I did not expect the service to be top notch, however our waitress kept forgetting our drink orders and the food came out in a very inconsistent manner. Our waitress, I don't remember her name just seemed "out of it". My wife and I got the drunken noodle(chicken) along with the panang curry(shrimp). We chose 3 which is the medium spice, but it was a lot spicier than we anticipated. Most of the party thought the same thing and sending our orders back would have been a bit much. One of our friends asked for a cream sauce that had no spice, so she could offset the heat from her salad, the waitress brought back a panang sauce in a bowl and it was the same spice level. It doesn't help that the restaurant was hot. I believe it was somewhere in the 80's. Parking wasn't an issue and we came on a Friday evening. Won't be back. read more

This is a staple lunch spot when I was working downtown regularly and still a go to when I know I am going to be down there around lunch time. The food is great and really offers a full range of spice (though I confess I am a wimp and don't take advantage of that). I really like the steamed dumpling appetizer and pad see ew! It's always hot and delicious. The one downside is the restaurant is on the smaller side, so there is often a wait, but with COVID, I've ordered food to go the last couple times and it was just as good as if I ate there! read more

She was deliberately being an ass to me and ignoring me. We got into a minor dispute about whether or not an item was on the menu. I even went as far as to say "oh i dunno what's wrong with me today" 3 times during this whole ordeal, obviously admitting i was wrong. Shortly afterward, i didn't care anymore who was right or wrong and was ready to enjoy the rest of the meal. But she, in childish manner, persisted in treated me like shit the rest of the night bc I disagreed with her. I love their food. Ever met someone that's nice and cute and all but then you end up saying "she's cool n all but there's just something missing".That's is exactly how I feel about Indochine: cool location, simple menu, nice vibe and ambience but it just fell short of my lofty expectation. I've had the Shrimp Pad Thai and Chicken Drunken noodles and both were underwhelmingly mediocre at best. The drunken noodles were cooked nicely and the chicken had adequate flavor. The cashews added a much needed crunch to the dish. The shrimp Pad Thai however was poorly executed in my opinion. The flavor profile was all muddled as I could not distinguish or separate any specific taste except soy sauce. Just a little sear/caramelization would be nice on the noodles. This is just my experience and it may not be typical but I doubt I'll have a chance to confirm that. Overall just not memorable or impressive. read more

THE BEST! We got shrimp drunken noodles (spice level 5) and prik pow (sp? Spicy level 4). For reference, we're Indian so we can handle the heat. Both items were fantastic. The drunken noodles were thinner than what I'm used to but I didn't mind. They had a spicy and savory sauce which was so delicious even with plain white rice on the side! Husband had the prik pow and it was very flavorful! The veggies and shrimp were cooked perfectly in both dishes. WILL get again. We ended dinner with mango sticky rice and creme brûlée and did not regret it at all. Just try it for yourself! Be sure to ask for Matthew. Downtown Indochine is a Great dinner locale that I often frequent during any show at Florida Theater, Times Union Center, & Veteran's Arena. Having a select sushi menu makes this location quite unique that I often use as my appetizer. Usual order: Rainbow Roll, Coconut shrimp soup, Shrimp Pad Thai (level 2 is my option). Came here for dinner while visiting Jacksonville. Note that they apparently close at 9 instead of 10 (at least on the Saturday I went that was the case) so keep that in mind if you plan on coming to sit down. My bf got the chicken pad thai. Placing our order was very quick and easy with the concierge. If you've ever had pho before from anywhere else and have high hopes for the pho here, don't. The broth lacked flavor depth and honestly just tasted like hot water with a dash of nothing. I tried to find flavor in it but just...sadly couldn't. I was really bummed because I was looking forward to it but I couldn't even bother to eat it, I was that disappointed. Not sure if it's because the kitchen was close to closing so they didn't have the good stuff left but either way, it should've and could've been much better. I went with a bunch of co workers for dinner before a ball game. We Uber'd there to avoid having to park for dinner and then re-park near the stadium for the game so I don't know if they have their own lot or not. We were seated upstairs in their spacious and well appointed dining room. They have a pretty expansive menu for a Thai restaurant and I believe something for everyone whether you're a fan of Thai food or not. I happen to love Thai and this place did not disappoint. We started with appetizers and tried a variety of different things. We hade Edamame, Crab Rangoon, Steamed Dumplings and Chicken Satay. Everything was flavored and cooked to perfection and set the tone for the rest of our wonderful meal. Our service throughout the evening was top notch. They kept our drinks flowing, cleared empty plates and dishes away and tended to our every need. They really have their acts together. The ordering process for entrees is a little unique in that you select the dish you want which could be a rice or noodle dish and then you select your protien (chicken, veggie, Tofu, beef, shrimp or scallops) and then you also select your desired level of spiciness or heat which range from 1 (mild) to 6 (hot). I'm a Pad Thai lover so I couldn't avoid trying it here. For those not familiar, its a thin noodle dish tossed in a sweet sauce and mixed with been sprouts, egg, scallions and topped with lime and crushed peanut. Amongst the best I've ever had from any Thai restaurants I've eaten at. Others that night ordered the Pad Thai as well, served their way and raved about it. Portions were healthy so we all had take home dishes to enjoy the next day. I don't specifically remember all of the other dishes ordered but the Drunken Noodles and Pad See Ew were other popular choices for our group. The atmosphere was great and the food and service throughout the night couldn't have been better.
