I was looking for some good pho and based on the Yelp reviews and proximity of this location to the St. John's town center I decided to stop by here for a Saturday lunch. I stopped here around 2 PM and there was no one inside. Obviously on Saturday around this time most people are at brunch, so I took great advantage of the fact that I would be able to have the restaurant to myself. The service was very friendly and nice. I ordered the Pho Bo with cooked beef. It came out less than 10 minutes later. This literally hit the spot for my full day of hanging out at the museum earlier and shopping ahead. The pho was very flavorful and they give you a hearty portion - definitely enough for leftovers. Even though it was so hot that I burnt my tongue, I could not stop slurping the delicious broth. The only thing I did not like about this dish was the fact that there was not enough meat. I do see that on the menu. There's a surcharge for extra meat in the soup, but I do feel like they were a little stingy on the tasty beef in my dish. The sprouts, basil, and jalapeños were fresh and they gave a good portion to add in. Overall, based on the delicious pho and great price I will be back for another visit. read more

Look, everyone has their go to pho spot and I know it's hard to break away from routine. But recently, I was recommended A Bit of Saigon by a friend of mine. When your Vietnamese buddy tells you his favorite spot, you gotta check it out. In an unassuming strip mall you'll find this family owned gem. Their menu is very small. That's usually a sign the food is going to be great. It shows they carefully specialize in each dish. Ordered the banh xeo and a bowl of pho dac biet. The banh xeo was crispy and stuffed with shrimp. The pho broth superior. The tendon was melt in your mouth. I love supporting businesses like this that actually care about the product they serve. I've got my new spot now. It was another evening for Loan, Goldie and I to head out to another monthly stop at a chosen local restaurant. This time it was my turn to choose, but Goldie wasn't able to make it but my friend ably took her place! I chose A Bit of Saigon for us and was really looking forward to having some outstanding Vietnamese cuisine again. But unfortunately it turned out to be mostly disappointing. Not sure if the staff was having an off night or what, but I expect far better from a restaurant that's rated four and a half stars on Yelp. The spring rolls of both varieties were pretty average. The fried ones seemed very mushy, more than normal. And aside from the rice noodles in the cold spring rolls, it was a sort of "Where's the beef?" For the rest of the filling. My vermicelli was even worse, especially the meat. It seemed they got my order wrong as it appeared to be beef instead of the chicken version I ordered. In addition, there were a couple of the pieces that were not fully cooked -- I don't eat rare chicken or beef! I felt the service was a little weak. We just didn't connect and I don't think our orders were prepped well in the end. The shop is decent on the interior and pretty clean overall. Wooden tables and chairs are split across both sides of the shop. I think I was gracious to give A Bit of Saigon three stars. It is a restaurant I'm unlikely to visit again. My husband and I ate at A Bit of Saigon for breakfast this morning. We ordered the Bún Mêkông and the phô Dac Biet/Saigon bowl. The Bún Mêkông had a very flavourful, seafood broth with some shrimp, octopus, tofu and rare beef. My husband really enjoyed it. He would have liked a little more octopus, but still thought it was very good. I had the phô Dac Biet/Saigon bowl which had a very nice broth with plenty of rare beef, cooked beef, beef balls and a couple of pieces of tendon. It didn't have any tripe although that was in the dish description. That was ok with me as that was the only thing I wasn't really concerned about having in the dish, but someone else might have missed it. The noodles were cooked just perfectly with a little bite when I first tried them. The inside was clean, if a little dimly lit. The server was very friendly and attentive. TERRIBLE service...I went to A bit of Saigon for Pho. While ordering I ask for a side of broth and offered to pay whatever it costs. The male owner refused the side and told me what he offers is enough. I said again I will pay an he went on a rant telling me no. When my order was ready he went on again how he does not sell sides of broth. I asked if all the sides for the Pho were in the bag and he went off again. Not only was tje service terrible but the restaurant is dark and dingy. Don't waste your time. Plenty of other places offer Pho and are much cleaner and friendly. read more

Very tasty. The owner, chef, server runs a tight ship. Quick service with no chit chat. Regulars can chat. Located on Kernan in a strip mall just south of the mall where Publix is. This review is long overdue. I have been coming to this restaurant for quite a while and every single time I go, it just knocks it out of the park. The restaurant is inviting, the service is a 20/10 and the food is absolutely incredible. Every time I leave the restaurant I'm surprised that there isn't a line about the door. I'm not sure how we've missed this gem for so long! Delicious food, wonderful server, and so close to our house! We normally go to Southside or farther for Pho, but we now have a new favorite spot! My fiancé is one of those people that HATES trying new places, but I read the reviews and he came with. He LOVED it and I get to tell him I told you so. It was better than the other spots we frequent and we got a larger portion. Highly recommend. He got the Pho Bo (classic beef noodle soup) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The pho does come with the side of bean sprouts, jalapeños, basil, and lime contrary to what the menu says, which was a pleasant surprise. The serving size is all the same with the Pho, and more than enough for one person. I got the bun Mekong which has shrimp, octopus, rare beef, and tofu. I normally get shrimp only, but the variety in this soup dish was excellent! It hit all my cravings. Although it says it's spicy, it was pretty mild, yet flavorful. I didn't have to add any heat or other sauce to love it. I did add the lime that came with it. Finally, our server had a great sense of humor, was attentive, and very kind. I started coughing because a noodle went down the wrong way so I stepped outside and he came out and asked if I was okay and gave me napkins. My first time here and wow I think it's the best in Jacksonville! Let me start out by saying I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now based on their positive reviews. Since my Filipino bakery is next door I decided to order lunch for carry out. This is a family owned establishment and you can see mom and dad cooking in the kitchen. The owner is very friendly and was nice to offer suggestions of things I hadn't tried yet. I ended up ordering fresh rolls, egg crape, pork chops rice dish and chicken noodle salad dish. Shame on me for not coming here sooner, the food is simply wonderful. The small restaurant greets you and (I would assume) the owner takes your order tableside. The menu is actually quite small and extremely traditional to Saigon. You are truly getting a taste of home when dining here. I don't know the first thing about the region, but boy if this is a resemblance of their cuisine, we should all be booking first class tickets to Vietnam. Cha Gio - Crispy rolls loaded with shrimp and pork, when I say loaded, I mean LOADED. These were crispy pockets of flavor that I could've ordered by the pound. My table-mate and I were shocked how fantastic these were. Pho Bo - Damn, this was a delicious bowl of pho. The brisket stole the show, it fell apart beautifully in my mouth. The broth was deep and still tasted good as it cooled off. For me, the kicker were the noodles. Usually it's difficult for me to finish the heavy noodles. Not here, they were so ridiculously tender yet had the substance to stick together. Don't sleep on this place. Even though you'll want to go to sleep after a big meal here. Customer service was not good. Me and girlfriend actually felt a little bit of hatered towards us. Ambiance was good since we were the only ones there. Food was pretty average. I would have placed a 5 star if the customer service was great since that is what I want when I go out and spend my hard earned money to have a meal. A Bit of Saigon, you can do better with the customer service and this place would have long waiting lines. My bill was $19 and placed a $5 tip.
