Their spa bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever been in. We chatted it up and she educated me on my skin and what I can do to prevent future skin problems. I felt like I was talking to a long time friend when I was chatting with her. I also got an eyebrow wax and she did an amazing job. It was painless, quick and she got all the unwanted hair out. My wife found her on Yelp when I was desperate for a good facial a few years ago, and I've followed her from her previous digs in San Ramon and Pleasanton to her latest studio in an attic perched above the Tribez Salon and Spa in Danville ever since. I've stayed loyal to Zakiya because she's not just one of the best aestheticians in the Bay Area, but because she cares. Facials are her calling - she is spontaneous and creative, a true artiste, unafraid of taking a different direction based on what she sees when she starts working on a client. Which brings us to the hydrating fruit mask - she went 'tut-tut' after seeing how dry my skin was during our session yesterday, gently berating me for neglecting both moisturizer and sunscreen since I saw her last. Brushing aside my weak excuse that it was winter, she announced she was going to hydrate my skin with her favorite Yonka fruit mask, and I didn't have the heart to tell her I was claustrophobic! Seven minutes later, my ordeal was over, and Z (as Zakiya is affectionately known to her regulars) was back to her usual small talk as she continued her face care routine on me. Thirty minutes later, we were done. My face felt better, I looked younger, and I was ready to face the world.
