    Cool games for entertainment
    Hooman J.

Tonight was the second time we tried the good here. The first time it was take out this time we dined in. Generally speaking the service and good was decent. I wouldn't say its out of this x world but it's fairly decent. We tried a few different salads and pastas. Everything was good portions and delicious. The place is a little small so it can feel a bit crammed. It has a very hipster feel to it which is cool. Feels like your at a restaurant in Victoria. They even have little games like jenga on the tables for entertainment. Overall it was a pleasant experience.

CASARECCE CARBONARA - Pancetta, fresh egg, Pecorino, black pepper.

What a great place. We love supporting locally owned, small sized businesses. A few friends recommended InGrain to us - and we went with two of our kids for dinner while the third kid went to the Parkgate Dance. They advertise the pasta and "slow dried and super traditional". We ordered four different bowls of pasta - all very different but all really excellent. My wife had the FARRO LILIES - Broccoli, chilis, garlic, lemon, walnuts, Parmesan. It was excellent very light but filling and plentiful. The mix of broccoli and walnuts have the dish a great crunchy texture. Highly recommended if you are looking at vegetarian options. I had the CASARECCE CARBONARA - Pancetta, fresh egg, Pecorino, black pepper - which was definitely richer but not too greasy or oily. I was able to finish it all - it was great. The kids had PENNE PANCETTA (Garlic, tomato, Pancetta, chilis, basil, Pecorino) and the MAC & BEEF (Maccheroni, braised beef, Mornay sauce, mushrooms, aged cheddar). The penne pancetta has a good kick to it, and was tasty. Our oldest daughter (13 years old) delightfully finished that on her own. Our youngest (8 years old) finished about half of his Mac and Beef. It was really good - the red was braised well and tasty, and we asked for it to be done without mushrooms (which he does not like). Great place. It's on the small side and there are a lot of people coming in for takeaway. It's got a friendly and busy vibe. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We will be back.

    Farro Shells

Wow, wow, wow!! Some of the best pasta I've had in a long time! I had the Farro shells. They were slightly spicy, tangy, and so flavourful! The bruschetta was small (4 bread crackers) but very tasty. Small clean, home kitchen nice vibe!

Came here tonight for the first time. The atmosphere and service were excellent. Cozy, warm, and personable. It was busy but we were able to get a seat at the bar right away - would probably be a good idea to make a reservation if it were a weekend. There is a good local craft beer and wine selection. Drinks and bread were great and came quickly. The in-house-made-from-scratch pasta was delicious and reading about the process behind it was interesting. We ordered pasta with roasted eggplant and ricotta. Ingredients were fresh and the food was delicious and not heavy. They have some retail at the restaurant as well - so you can buy dried pasta to take home as well. On their menu they noted they also do takeout. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a lovely evening in North Van!!

Fast forward to just a couple of weeks ago, and we were back in Vancouver to celebrate another special occasion, plus I was running a half marathon. We made reservations via Open Table about 1-2 months before our trip and noted that we were celebrating a special occasion (anniversary). When we arrived, the hostess and our server both made a point to wish us a Happy Anniversary, and even offered us some complimentary flutes of Prosecco! This was unexpected and so thoughtful of them! It was also the night before my half marathon, so I hesitated to drink, but what the heck...why not?! It was a special occasion too after all! (Even so, my hubby drank most of mine haha) We're both plant-based athletes and fitness professionals, so we truly appreciate that they have really good vegan and vegetarian options here. I got the Pomodoro pasta and my husband got the Pesto di Nocciole, plus we ordered the Charred Broccolini to share. Every dish was absolutely perfect and so full of flavor. Definitely enjoyed carbo-loading for my race! A huge thank you and grazie to our server, Gary! He's so kind and welcoming, and we appreciated him making our evening so special!

We didn't realize there was happy hour ending at 6pm. We got the Polpette al forno ( meatball & homemade bread) $7 , Spaghetti bolognese special $29, and finocchiona pizza. The food tasted amazing, and their chili oil is a must The staff were very friendly, made recommendations and gave coloring sheet and crayons for our kiddo. It was very busy and glad we finished within the hour. The Ambiance was busy and cozy. Lots of street parking in the area.

Although the dining room is very small, dining in was most enjoyable. The atmosphere is very cozy, the booths are very comfortable and there was nice music playing softly. Their website has an option to book a table online but I would suggest calling if you want to make a reservation. We tried booking a reservation online and we received an email saying that our request had been received and they would get back to us. We never received a follow up email or phone call and ended up having to phone in for a reservation. When we were there for dinner on Mother's Day we were the only customers dining in. The service was very good and the owner's wife came to our table on a couple of occasions to ensure that everything was okay. The prices are reasonable. They have a small list of wines available that are also reasonably priced. Wednesday and Sunday are BYOB with no corkage fee. For dinner we had a bottle of wine and shared a Sopprosatto pizza and spaghetti carbonara. The pizza was delicious. They brought extra chili oil to the table. The spaghetti was slightly overcooked and not al dente. There was a very small amount of bacon. I also find that the bacon does not provide as nice a flavour as pancetta gives to the dish. It was not one of the better carbonaras that we've had. It was not a dish I would order again. It is unlikely that we would return. We really enjoyed the pizza, loved the dining room inside and the service was good, however the spaghetti carbonara was very disappointing and we did not see any other pastas that appealed to us. When we go out for Italian food my husband really likes to have pasta.

We ordered the following: Gamberi Al Martini Penne Arrabbiata Tiramisu Mom wasn't extremely hungry so she just had a prawn appetizer while I ordered the Penne Arrabbiata dish as I was much hungrier than her. My Penne dish was supposed to come with spicy tomato sauce along with capers and black olives. I honestly didn't find the tomato sauce spicy but that actually suited me better as I was more interested in the capers and black olives part of it, than the spicy part of it. I generally prefer my food to be non spicy so I enjoyed this dish. If spicy is what you're looking for though, then I wouldn't recommend this dish. Oh, we got some free bread as restaurants often do; however, instead of butter to go with the bread they gave us some kind of white dip. Looked kinda like Tzatziki but it was definitely not Tzatziki. It was sooooo good! I inquired about it and found out that it was some kind of white bean dip. I was tempted to get some Tiramisu for dessert but was also really full from my pasta dish. Didn't think I could stomach an order of Tiramisu...but then our server suggested that he might be able to bring me a half order of Tiramisu. Oooo, this sounded like a very tempting proposition. It isn't written anywhere on the menu, but it was an ingenius idea. So I agreed to the half order. Great idea. Got to satisfy my Tiramisu craving and ended up extremely full, but not insanely extremely full! We've been to Italy a few times, mostly familiar with Neapolitan food, and this definitely is the closest I've come to my Italian pizza since being back in Canada. Fresh, quality ingredients and a crispy, thin crust. Perfection! The prosciutto was buttery and rich, the greens all fresh, the tomato sauce *chef's kiss*! I recommend the Prosciutto crisp and arugula pizza. The staff was very kind and checked on us multiple times. The restaurant was clean and a very convenient location. Someone said it was hard to get a table, but we went for a late lunch and had no problem, so I suppose the time matters. (Lunch rush in this area is busy everywhere.)
