This used to be my favorite place for pasta. Just ordered from there and the quality was terrible . My daughters meal was prepared differently than it has been in the past and when she exchanged it for something else they wouldn't refund the $10 difference. Tonight was the second time we tried the good here. The first time it was take out this time we dined in. Generally speaking the service and good was decent. I wouldn't say its out of this x world but it's fairly decent. We tried a few different salads and pastas. Everything was good portions and delicious. The place is a little small so it can feel a bit crammed. It has a very hipster feel to it which is cool. Feels like your at a restaurant in Victoria. What a great place. We love supporting locally owned, small sized businesses. A few friends recommended InGrain to us - and we went with two of our kids for dinner while the third kid went to the Parkgate Dance. They advertise the pasta and "slow dried and super traditional". We ordered four different bowls of pasta - all very different but all really excellent. My wife had the FARRO LILIES - Broccoli, chilis, garlic, lemon, walnuts, Parmesan. It was excellent very light but filling and plentiful. The mix of broccoli and walnuts have the dish a great crunchy texture. Highly recommended if you are looking at vegetarian options. I had the CASARECCE CARBONARA - Pancetta, fresh egg, Pecorino, black pepper - which was definitely richer but not too greasy or oily. I was able to finish it all - it was great. The kids had PENNE PANCETTA (Garlic, tomato, Pancetta, chilis, basil, Pecorino) and the MAC & BEEF (Maccheroni, braised beef, Mornay sauce, mushrooms, aged cheddar). The penne pancetta has a good kick to it, and was tasty. Our oldest daughter (13 years old) delightfully finished that on her own. Our youngest (8 years old) finished about half of his Mac and Beef. It was really good - the red was braised well and tasty, and we asked for it to be done without mushrooms (which he does not like). Great place. It's on the small side and there are a lot of people coming in for takeaway. It's got a friendly and busy vibe. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We will be back. read more

So disappointing. Interior is super cute and love the menu items. We got take out and one of the items was a pretty salty penne pancetta. Worst part about it? No utensils. Should I have double checked before I left the restaurant? Probably, but I was on a vacation high where I obviously wasn't thinking clearly. I know it's not a huge mistake, but we had to eat our pasta in our hotel room with our fingers and that also kind of diminishes the experience. Came here tonight for the first time. The atmosphere and service were excellent. Cozy, warm, and personable. It was busy but we were able to get a seat at the bar right away - would probably be a good idea to make a reservation if it were a weekend. There is a good local craft beer and wine selection. Drinks and bread were great and came quickly. The in-house-made-from-scratch pasta was delicious and reading about the process behind it was interesting. We ordered pasta with roasted eggplant and ricotta. Ingredients were fresh and the food was delicious and not heavy. They have some retail at the restaurant as well - so you can buy dried pasta to take home as well. On their menu they noted they also do takeout. My husband and I and our two girls love this place. It's very stylish yet friendly and gives you an at home feeling at the same time... Pasta is always good and the kids never get tired of the bambini pasta (they each have their "signature order" they have never varied from!!). I have tried most of the pastas on the menu (which seems to get tweak pretty often) and there are none I haven't enjoyed. They've got nice drinkable wine by the glass as well. My only gripe is that they don't serve juice for the kids... Currently our go to place when we want to have a nice relaxed family meal out. read more

Good pastas in this restaurant. A little bit out of the way if you're not on the north shore, but worth it to go here. Had the durum seashells with prawns. Perfectly a la dente texture and delicious. My vegetarian friend had the Faro Lilies and she loved it. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service friendly. This is the best pasta I had in this continent. Most amazing chef. I can compare this place to Jamie Oliver's Italian in London or any Italian Grandma's pasta in Italy (not here). Sauce is superb. Pasta is cooked traditionally and to perfection. The pastas are cooked traditionally, so if you are expecting Chinese mall-style noodles you'd be disappointed. If you expect service please go to Cactus club, this place cooks every meal individually so it takes time. You must appreciate food to be here. This is like bespoke pasta, it takes care and time. If you expect to have your absolute privacy, please go to cactus club and get your private table, this is European dining style, share and care, drink and be merry. We've been to Parkgate many times in April/May but I didn't notice the restaurant until I walked past it on my way to A&W the other day. I'm glad we have this new restaurant in my neck of the woods! Perfect for those days when we don't feel like cooking and for grabbing takeout after work. We decided to give it a try for lunch and my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. We had the Baked Lumache with braised beef and Kamut Casarecce. The Baked Lumache was my favourite, the brased beef was tender and pasta was nice. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

Came here for dinner w family, we were visiting Vancouver and they haven't been here before and it was a pleasant experience. The place was not hard to find and we were able to be seated right away. Menu isn't very large, but they had enough to choose from. My nephew asked for ham with his grilled cheese sandwich and he said it was the best grilled cheese sandwich he's ever had. I had the Penne Pancetta and it was delicious. Good portion and great pasta texture. Even though my toddler had her share of mac n cheese she kept reaching for my pasta lol. Worth checking out while in North Van. Ordered the Salumi board, meatball sandwich with a sub of asparagus and apple salad and the pancetta pasta. The Salumi board was nothing amazing, very predicable flavours but being a lover of charcuterie boards this is worth an order. The meatball sandwich flavour profile was good, meatballs are under seasoned for the sandwich I ordered but otherwise great. The salad was great, sweet and all the components you would want in a salad. The show stopper was really the pasta, full of flavour, cooked properly and spot on for seasoning. Well done! read more

We went here when this place first opened and weren't particularly impressed. Fast forward to September 2018... well, I rarely bother with Yelp reviews... but the pasta at this place is straight-up unbelievable. And the artichoke appetizer... I spent the rest of the afternoon dreaming about it. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Prices are ok and excellent service, too. It's kinda tucked into the corner of a pretty drab strip mall (Parkgate)... but... SO worth it. If there were ever a place that deserved to be on the Food Network, this is it! read more

We have eaten at this restaurant and have also done takeout on numerous occasions. Our last visit , i ordered the Farro lilies, which is one of my favorites. But... the food was so salty it was almost inedible. I reached out to Ingrains on their website , but no reply. We were a party of 4 and no one had a memorable meal. This place used to be real good, but the standards have slipped. The kitchen staff are not paying attention to the food, and are sending stuff out that is not palatable! Brand spanking new place serving alternative / gluten free pastas located in the Safeway plaza on the way up to Mount Seymour. We are local diners and since there are only about 4 decent eateries in the area we zoomed over as soon as they opened to see the digs and check out the food. We always want to like and support the local eateries but judging by our initial visit this will not be anywhere on the top of our "local" bites list. Let's start with the positive. The decor is well done. Stone, wood, glass elements all carefully integrated... it's a nice place to walk into. It goes a little downhill from here... Onto the service. They have modeled this place after places like Formosa Pizzeria on the drive where they give you a menu and a seat then you go order at the counter (a tip is expected when you pay for the food) and then take your own drinks and water to the table and wait for someone to bring your food. Question begs why is a tip expected up front when you're not sure what the quality of food or service is going to be? My dinner partner ordered and paid and tipped 10% instead of our usual 15% and said he felt stupid giving them anything but was too embarrassed not to. Still, if the food was good we could deal with this set up. So, the food: We ordered a Salumi plate (antipasto), a mixed green salad and kamut pasta. Pay attention people, go to Via Tevere on Victoria Drive and see how to do a real antipasto platter! The best thing was the bread, proper semi-dunkel rustic european style bread. When a restaurant puts the bread on the platter you know they're just filling up real estate with it. Bread should be served on the side or serve it on a larger board. The salad was drenched and I mean drenched in vinaigrette. Both of us are salad lovers and will eat almost anything resembling a salad, but the dressing was way too sweet and did I say drenched? It came in a little 70's era soup bowl and was basically a clump of soggy greens with a ton of either raisins or dried berries and some sunflower or other seeds. All we could say was YUCK. The kamut pasta was tossed with peas, I think ricotta and arugula. Somehow it managed to be hot only in the very middle and pretty much cold radiating out. It was edible, that's the best I can say. All pastas are about $15.00. Cheap for a restaurant but expensive for a self service place.... I told my dining partner we should let them get their training wheels off and go back and try them again in a few weeks but he said I'd have to go with someone else, he was so not impressed! read more

Nice to get a new restaurant in our area (Parkgate Village Shopping Centre), and tried it out last night. Really good experience all around: - Nice decor and feel - Friendly personnel - Great food at reasonable prices Menu primarily consists of "rustic salads" and "housemade pastas". We had the Shaved Brussels salad ($5), a side of assorted bread ($2), two pastas (Lumache Gratin ($15) and Penne all'Amatriciana ($13)), and Italian wine ($7/glass). Everything was very tasty. Their setup is to order at the front counter instead of a server, but they seemed flexible on that (an older gentleman sitting beside us was able to "conventionally" order from his seat). Take-out too. Decent selection of one-price wines by the glass or bottle, with option to bring your own ($9 corkage fee). Complimentary sparkling or flat water (self-serve from wall spigots). We look forward to trying more menu items on a future visit! read more

We ordered bambini with beef for takeout along with two slices of homemade cheesecake. The pasta wasn't cooked al dente which is a big no no for a restaurant who's main dish is pasta. Sauce wasn't anything special and the prices are rather expensive for a mediocre meal. Cheesecake was more of European light and mouse cake, no NY style here. Fine concept, very well executed. They serve old fashioned style pasta but pay expert attention to preparation and saucing. I enjoyed a right-sized dish of ziti with braised beef, Mornay sauce, mushrooms and cheddar. Partner's farro shells were served with mushrooms, hazelnut and kale with sherry-apple cider cream sauce. Our starter was the Croustini Trio, a creative selection with quality ingredients. Next time, I might enjoy a double order as dinner. Small salads, one with "foliage" and the other with shaved brussels sprouts, gave a sense of eating healthy but delivered taste. Service was attentive and friendly and the room is comfortable. Uncooked specialty pastas can be purchased for home. We'll return again, but with children who might learn that great pasta doesn't come in a box with neon coloured cheesy like substance created in a lab. read more

The menu, uncomplicated; four salads and six We shared a bottle of red and split a shaved brussels salad, fresh baked organic bread, and each had a different pasta dish. It was all very yummy. My friend had the Spelt Trattole pasta and it was delish, lots of garlic. I had the daily special which was red pepper Puttanesca (not for the faint of heart). It was a really spicy that night, and I like it hot. Next time I'm going to try the Lumache Gratin. It's likened to a mac 'n cheese with braised beef resting on top after it's been slow roasted for 5 hours (that's what we were told). Everyone's food looked appealing an mostly made onsite; the pasta, organic bread, homemade cake & pastries, biscotti, etc. We were a little unsure how it worked but you place your order at the counter and then have a seat. Definitely cozy casual. The decor is fresh and inviting. In the centre of the room is a huge farm house style table, and the white brick wall has long comfy banquette. Attention to detail is throughout from the water jugs used to the lighting. This is a welcomed addition to the village neighborhood. They fit in nicely! read more
