My review is solely on the Lomo Saltado plate. As someone mentioned in another review, the meat was very tough and dry. There wasn't very many "chunky" tomato pieces so there's that. Coming from a person who ate her a lot AND worked here at one point. They do NOT pre make food and have it sitting there. EVERYTHING you order is made on the spot, never sits under a light. Most of the items like sauces like Aji Verde and the Chicha Morada are made in house from scratch. so yeah, they aren't going to taste like they would somewhere else. I'm a very.. routine eater, always eating the same items. I had the Lomo Saltado on my first visit back because it was the first dish I ever had. I wasn't disappointed, it tasted like normal to me. I want to.. correct? something I've seen on a couple of posts. Their fries have always been soft, never crispy. I've had the same dish at Kikiryki *now closed I think* and Incas Peruvian Grill in Upland and have all served them like this. If you don't like something about you're food they are more than willing to fix The restaurant is recently open and they are remodeling, so it isn't in the greatest shape visually. If you are someone who is going to judge on appearance, wait to visit when they are done remodeling so it can at least be a fair review. When I went they weren't using silver wear, not a big deal seeing as we are in a pandemic and most people probably feel safer using a disposable items right now anyways. I can't say much on the customer service since I worked there and they know me. What I can say is, the owner prides herself in making sure everyone is treated like they are a regular and making sure her employees do the same. She is a very hands-on owner, you'll see her there for at least a couple of hours during the week. On weekends she is there most of the day. You'll see her serving, cleaning and even washing dishes sometimes... just don't tell her I said that. :) read more

Great place for date night. This was my first time eating Peruvian and it was great. This hidden gem has a cozy and quiet atmosphere. The staff was excellent! They were very attentive. They answered all of our questions and also allowed us to sample some drinks before ordering. I had the Lomo saltado along with the mussels and potato dishes from the apps menu. Was happy to see the return of Inka Trails and support local. Unfortunately, for me, the prices don't match the experience. I don't mind paying for good food. But to be served in styrofoam boxes for dine in with plastic forks is not what I would go back for. I got a ceviche & a soltado and the bill was almost $40. Ceviche was good. Soltado was lack luster. Do yourself the favor and try this diamond in the rough. Unbeknownst to the fact that Peruvian ceviche is VERY different to traditional Mexican, I was happily surprised with the complex flavor with pine nuts and sweet potato. I was a fool for thinking that a ceviche alone would crush my appetite; immediately went back for the filet de pescado. Then when they bring the other plates they just hand it to you or place it in the wrong place. A guy brings my plate and awkwardly looks at me for what to do with it, so I take it from his hands. The food? Its pretty good I've had better and better Lomo Saltado but its fine. I ordered the Quinoa which this is the only place I've been to so far that has it. The other 4 stars deducted for: -3 stars for the surly, sour-faced, rude "hostess" who turned away a 2-top from their empty dining room at 6pm because they were "fully booked" . Really? What time were those reservations for? The place was E M P T Y at 6pm. It wasn't like we walked in at 7pm demanding a table. I really think she took a particular glee in turning us away. It was awkward, unprofessional, and I was embarrassed for her. Never, in all my years, have I been turned away so starkly, even at the swankiest, snootiest establishments in Beverly Hills, Europe, West Hollywood, NYC. Yes, the wait may have been longer than I wanted, or they may have accommodated us in a tiny table by the kitchen, whatever. But this was totally unwarranted and just plain rude. This is the only Peruvian restaurant I know of in Claremont (other place is more fast food style). When you first arrive, you'll have to maneuver your vehicle into a cramped parking lot in back. The atmosphere is ok with very dim lighting. Appetizers aren't too special, but the entrées are very good! I especially enjoy asking for extra aji verde (green sauce). The last time we visited, I made a reservation for two but they double booked and we had to wait around for 10-15 minutes. I'm going to hedge slightly upwards and give this place four stars. Just because I like meat and potatoes type of places that don't skimp on the portion size. And that is exactly what Peruvian cuisine is: meat and potatoes (french fries, to be exact). The food here is pretty good. Both plates came out nice and hot, which always makes me more willing to bump up my Yelp review. For old-timers to Claremont, you'll recall this placed served Argentinian food at one time (and it was quite unique and delicious)..... The food here is standard Peruvian cuisine, which, is actually, quite tasty. Most of the cuisine is quite simple: beef, chicken, potatoes, and a variety of different permutations on the same basic ingredients. I thought the raw fish (is it called ceviche?) was very good. Recommended. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, marked up, of course, but quite nice. It has become a favorite of mine (Torrontes). Prices are standard for plates, from $8-15. You'll get out of there for about $70 for two people, a bottle of wine, appetizer, and two meals. The portions are quite huge, so if you go home hungry, you must really like to eat. This place is cool, the service was quite slow, but I might go back. Maybe not. All in all, this isn't my favorite Peruvian joint in SoCal. read more

So this was my absolute first time eating Peruvian food. With that said, it was the best Peruvian food I HAVE EVER EATEN. I started off with an Inca Kola which looks like mountain dew and smells and tastes like that pink bubble gum you at as a kid- a must have and it may sound weird, but it complemented the food well. I grew up eating these from the hands of my grandma so I was interested in trying the Peruvian version. Nothing like Grandma's- no better- just different- and in a very GOOD way...crispy baked outside, and a meaty, juicy, flavorful interior. So for the main course I went with the old Peruvian standby of Lomo Saltado which was recommended to me by many people of wisdom to try first. Of course, they didn't let me down. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical going into this that a sophisticated dish of strip steak, cilantro, and aromatics would include FRENCH FRIES. Well thank God the Peruvians are into their spuds because it's the fries that absolutely make this dish. Incredible. Served with white rice, I cleaned my plate and left a few grains of rice to show I'm not really suffering from starvation. I would recommend ordering this dish if you've never had Peruvian food before, no matter where you are eating. Dessert: So as full as we were, the finish line was in site, but oh-so-full as this place serves up handsomely when it comes to portions. Long story short we went with the warmed bread pudding drizzled with a chocolate and caramel sauce. Warm. Moist. Custardy. Just how a bread pudding is supposed to be but this one was more special than anything I remember. I, being the critic that I am, was finding it difficult to complain about just SOMETHING at a minimum. The service, ambiance, food quality/freshness/presentation/taste were topnotch. This is a great place for a date, business meeting, or just a relaxing and low-stress place to catch up with a friend and have a great meal. I used to go to another Peruvian restaurant near Pomona, until they started serving guinea pig... so I tried this place. The atmosphere is relatively dark, it's almost hard on the eyes. However, that does add to a more romantic setting if you're looking to get cozy. My husband and I have been here a couple of times, usually with coupons. They are relatively expensive...so we try to have a good deal with us before coming here. The last visit we had here was alright, except for the awkward lady speaking Spanglish (and don't get me wrong, I speak Spanish to her for the most part, but she really shouldn't mix English/Spanish as often as she does). She also kept trying to get us to buy more, when we had our budget planned out around our coupon. It was kind of annoying, but our main waiter was really great. We both got the Lomo Saltado (I got the chicken version) and they were both really well done. The fries were soft and juicy with the sauce and the rice was a great compliment. Highly recommended, outside of Bisteq a Lo Pobre (my favorite)!! The bread and green sauce that comes for free is definitely the best part. Who said the best things in life aren't free? The restaurant itself is nice and clean, staff was fine, prices are high but that's common at Peruvian food locations. This is one of the reasons I miss living in Claremont. There's a Peruvian restaurant in Long Beach, which is not bad by any means, but every time I eat there, I think about how I wish I were eating the aji de gallina from this place instead. So, I was back last year for alumni weekend, and convinced people to go here. While the food was just as great as I remembered, the service was just as great as I remembered, and the look of the place was just as great as I remembered... I definitely didn't remember it being quite as pricey as it is now. Which, it's entirely possible it always was, and back when I was in college, I just wasn't usually paying for it, but still. I do feel like the food is tastier here than the Peruvian place we go in Long Beach when we're looking for Peruvian food, but... it's also like 12-15 bucks an entree as compared to like 6-8. But I suppose you do get what you pay for. I've heard some of their other dishes aren't that great, but why would I get any other dishes, when they make the best aji de gallina, hands down?
