Came here last week on a Friday night around 5:30pm. Not a single person in the restaurant. I've been to this location before they left and came back and always thought it was pretty good. But this was the first time trying since they've returned and it was just okay. I always get the saltaldo whether it's chicken or steak. I thought it was on the salty side and I like salt so for me to say it was salty...... just saying. Wife got Tallarin saldalto de pollo. She said it was good. My mother in law ordered the Tallarin verde con bistek apanado. She liked hers as well. As I saw in previous posts, they do not serve bread anymore. Kinda disappointing when the bill was $80 for the 3 of us. Don't give you the bottle of the amazing green sauce anymore. Had to ask for extra. Also ordered sangria which tasted like it was out of a bottle with some canned fruit cocktail. Overall, if the prices were better, I guess I could give one more star. I don't mind paying more, especially in these times, but I also expect more. At least bread, c'mon. read more

Well I really wanted to like this place I did but they just had one too many things going against them...sucks. Some was in their control and some was out of their control...per say so let's start off with the one thing I would say is out of their control and that is the terrible drive in and parking (or the lack there of) area. Certainly not ideal and crammed, only fit about 6-7 cars and is a bit of a hazard both entering and exiting due to the lack of visibility from the street. I must say it's really nice inside and spacious for the most part but with its issues, and to save everyone from a long arduous story simple put the wait time for the food as well as the check at the end was terrible, also side note big parties (in this case over 6 people) expect to be tacked on a premium 18-20% gratuity...not a fan. The food was good however for the price and the wait time combined not what I would say well worth it..although good it made for a not so good experience over all. Had to wait for drink refills and if I didn't catch a billing issue would have charge my family $150 over the final bill amount, albeit that I don't think this was done on purpose it still didn't help to the stacking issues against this experience, like I said I really wanted to like this place and will say the staff was friendly just not very attentive. read more

Been eating Peruvian food for 30 years, have tried over 40 Peruvian restaurants and unfortunately, must say, I have never been so disappointed to eat Lomo saltado like I did today. I was so looking forward to it. Upon getting my order and started to eat, the meat was extremely salty, only got 1/2 of a tomato slice. Yes, only 1/2 of one. Even with the excess salt no flavor., the green sauce didn't taste so good either. Don Felix in the Fairfax area is bomb,, several in Rancho and Upland as well. So when I saw that there was a closer one couldn't wait to try.. love Lomo saltado but, unfortunately will not be going back. read more

Delighted to see Inka Trails is back! We ordered ahead by phone and our meal was ready quickly (15 minutes). They are running a more limited menu at the moment but we had some great saltados. This has been our family's favorite restaurant for over a decade. We love Inka Trails so much we held our wedding rehearsal banquet here and all of our guests were thrilled with the food and service. We were devastated when Patty had to close her Upland location but when we learned that she had re-opened the Claremont site, we rushed to get ourselves some of her amazing cuisine. Our favorite dishes include lomo Saltado, tallarin verde con bistec apanado, ceviche, and papa a la huancaina (por supuesto!). I really wanted to like this place but the food wasn't good at all in my opinion. Ordered a lomo saltado but let me just say, it did not taste like one. Too many onions, no tomatoes AT ALL and instead of tomatoes they added orange bell pepper? If you know Peruvian food, you know this is a red flag. Really weird taste,all I could taste was the onion. The Aji tasted like watered down cilantro dressing. The food did not taste like authentic Peruvian food. Who knows how the food was before they closed down because apparently they have 5 stars on Google, which is why I had high hopes for this place but I was sadly disappointed. My husband who is Peruvian ordered the Aji de Gallina and he too was disappointed by the flavor. Unfortunately we do not recommend this place and will not be ordering again. I really wanted to try the "Aji de Gallina." It was delicious! I definitely enjoyed it and accompanied it with a refreshing Chicha Morada. The way they prepare this dish is unique, I think. I recommend trying it and drinking an Inka Kola or Chicha Morada. The place is decorated beautifully with some Inka paintings, the music was pleasant, the personnel was so friendly, and I received my food according to the expected time. read more

Leena and I decided to come here the other night for dinner since we had never eaten Peruvian food before. When we got to the restaurant it was around 8 and pretty empty there were only about 2 other tables occupied. I had ordered the fish and Leena was craving steak. The only thing that went wrong was the waitress brought me the steak too instead of the fish. It was so good that it didn't matter. They didn't make up for it though like even offer a glass of wine or something not that all places do that. I did tip well though so next time hopefully our order is correct. The waitress was so nice that I didn't want to be picky also. The desert was also AMAzing and the avacado mixed dip with the bread left a tantalizing feeling on my tongue. Went here at the recommendation of one of my closest friends. Now I don't know of much spots that do Peruvian food justice around these parts, but I have developed a taste for Peruvian food while I was stationed out at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland during the years of 2008-2009. We met up here for lunch one day (he from work and me from school as I go to ULV), and it was quite empty. It was a Tuesday at around 1130 AM. We sat and ordered some fried Yucca. I love fried Yucca, but this was a bit too fried and slightly over-salted. The green sauce that it was served with was just okay. We both ordered Lomo Saltado. I find Lomo Saltado to be the gauging dish for Peruvian spots as it is quite a popular dish that any decent Peruvian restaurant should not mess up. Our plates came and everything looked good, from the main entre to the single scoop of white rice. Tasting it, everything was good. The flavors were where they needed to be. It had nice chunks of onions, peppers, french fries, and flank steak. And the sauce mixed with the rice made everything all the better. The waitstaff was very nice and the meal was very reasonably priced. If you are craving Peruvian food out in Southern California, this is a spot to check out if it is within a 30 minute drive for you. Anything greater than that, I would say don't bother. read more

Decided to try Peruvian food to celebrate our wedding anniversary and got much less than we bargained for. We arrived about 7pm and were told 20mn wait, no problem! Where do we wait? Ummm there is no where to wait, they directed us to go to the back by the kitchen and wait there. mmmmkay. While we are waiting I read the articles framed on the walls about the chef and food, all great articles about this mystical fabulous food, I was really ready to try it! Seated by 7:30. No water, no bread, no service for 30mn. There was a large party seated in the center, and I tried to be understanding, but I could see the waiters refilling the drinks at that table while we and the people at the table by us sat for half an hour without even a glass of water. An hour later I had a glass of wine and the only glass of water I could get all night. We ended up waiting 2 HOURS before our dinner was served! I am not exaggerating, because at this point I was timing it and we were laughing hysterically at this horrible little place, saying we should have had Del Taco for better service! The entire time we debated leaving but my husband and I were actually really curious about the food itself, and determined to salvage the dinner. I kept saying maybe the food would come out and just be fabulous!! NO. fried plantains were undercooked and mushy. The seafood plate that was supposed to be in a spicy garlic sauce was not even pretending to be spicy, it was bland and just really fishy. The breaded sole sauted with tomatoes over french fries was cold throughout the entire dish. How the hell did it take 2 hours to serve cold food? I finally snapped and called the server over and asked for the manager, she said she was the manager and started apologizing before I could even start... this was my monologue: "This is cold, that is nasty, and I am Colombian so I know these fried plantains should be a bit carmelized but they are mushy and cold. We've been sitting here for 2 hours and we are DONE. We will of course pay for the liquor but that is all" She offered us free dessert and my husband said um no I think we are just done LOL. Never ever again, when we walked outside it felt like we had been released from prison. This place needs to learn not to seat people it can't serve!!! read more

Eight colleagues and I decided to celebrate a birthday lunch here last month. Seven of the eight of us were familiar with Peruvian food, so we were excited to have found this restaurant in the Claremont area. The parking area is small and awkward, but since most of us carpooled, it worked out. The restaurant is small, clean, and cozy. Yet, the service is the worse I have ever encountered. The waitress was rude and arrogant. We were all disappointed with the portion sizes and the taste left much to be desired. I would much rather take a drive out to Hollywood and stand in line for an hour to eat at the savory Mario's Peruvian Restaurant. read more

Simply the best Peruvian food I've had yet. I've only been to eight or nine Peruvian places in my short Peruvian food life, but I have come to realize that this place is a cut above. If you haven't had Peruvian food before, it's something else. It's somewhere between Japanese, Central American, and imaginary. I suggest that you start with a saltado on your first visit to a Peruvian place-- it's a solid standby, a sort of Central American stir fry, with french fries in the mix. Truly a unique culinary tradition and a generally welcome change of pace. No matter where you go, expect big portions-- maybe a better choice for a big dinner than a light lunch. read more

My boyfriend and I ate here on Valentine's day and again yesterday....with a another couple.. Great food!..You will not be disappointed!.... The Lomo Saltado which is $12.50...soo delicious!....Lean top sirloin sautéed with onions, tomatoes and french fries, served with rice. A true Peruvian classic. I had something else on Valentine's-some type of seafood. But I will always order the Lomo Saltado...SO DELICIOUS!.. We also ordered the Calamari......I would definitely recommend it! Make sure you try the bread and green sauce that comes with it!...We always ask for more and we pour the green sauce on our main dish as well!... Their Sangria is delicious!... 1/2 a bottle size is good for one person for about $9..... This place is a little bit hard to find..looks like a small pink house. It's right next to the Shell station on the corner of Towne and Foothill. Not too much parking behind the place. I would park to the right of the restaurant in the plaza or at the shell station. Cutting the corners to exit was difficult. Enjoy this place!..You'll love it..hope this helps.. Oh La La! Peruvian food, how exotic! I had never tried Peruvian food before comming here last Wednesday. Peruvian men. Check. Peruvian wine. Check. But never Peruvian food. It was empty, understandably so, as Wednesday isn't THE hottest night out. There was only one other couple in this large, low lit resturaunt. The waitress came over very quickly and took our drink orders. There was no wine list (she said they were changing the list) but she suggested some wines for us. It was very convienient that we were sitting right by the wine wall display. She also suggested an appetizer and I am glad she did. We got these velvety potatoes in a cheesy sauce, YUM! (I brought the menu home with me so I could remember what they are called but can't find it at the moment-will try to update with the name of said appetizer.) I ordered the Peruvian beef fried rice. When it came it looked a whole lot like an Asian food dish. I was scared it was going to be full of soy sauce. It wasn't! It was SO GOOD! The beef was cooked perfectly, it was tender and really bursting with flavor without too much grease. It was a simple dish that was simply perfect. I could not have asked for a more tasty meal. I even took home leftovers, but ate them before I went to bed, like the piggy I am!!! I highly recommend this place! read more

My wife and I went to Inka Trails last night and wow, we were very impressed. Backstory: My wife is from Peru and she was wanting a home cooked meal for a while. We used to visit Pollo A La Brasa type restaurants (rotisserie chicken) and some were very good, others not so much Basically, this restaurant had to hit it out of the park and it did. This is an actual sit down restaurant with waiters, a hostess, and lots of wine being served. Great, quite atmosphere with soft peruvian music in the background. My wife ordered the Lomo Saltado (Beef sauteed with fries, tomatoes, and cilantro) and it was one of the best we've ever tried. I had the Aji de Gallina (Shredded chicken, potato, egg in a walnut gravy sauce) and it was awesome! We also had as an appetizer the Anticucho Mix. Now this was not the same anticucho we've had in Lima but it was just as good. We also washed it all down with a bottle of Sangria. Highly recommended!!! read more

This place has a very dark environment. Parking is behind the building and very, very narrow. Big car drivers watch out! The food is actually pretty decent tasting but fairly expensive. I went here with a group of friends and 3 of us ended up getting food poisoning. Not a good first impression.Their bread is delicious though. 1 star for now due to all-nighter in the restroom but may visit again in the distant future. read more

Family-run feel and and a good atmosphere to chill in. That being said, this is a pretty good place to get some Peruvian food. AND THEY HAVE INCA COLA! MAKE SURE TO ORDER A GLASS!! It is located in what looks like a little bungalow and has a big sign out front proudly proclaiming "Peruvian Restaurant." Once inside, the place is kinda small and you feel like you are in someones house. It's dark and decorated with Peruvian souvenirs. My [Peruvian] cousin remarked that the place reminded him of Cuzco which I totally agree with. There are only 2 or 3 waitresses and they are all over the place so service is kinda slow, but they are trying their hardest and they are VERY nice! Whenever I go, I always order the Aji de Gallina. That's a shredded chicken dish in a walnut sauce served over potatoes, ITS DELICIOUS! I recommend the potato appetizer too, I forget the name, but it is the only one that is potato based. Don't be afraid of the desserts either, we always share one, but stick with the theme and get something Peruvian, don't blow it and order cheese cake! My only crit is that they've made some slight modifications to typical Peruvian dishes (prolly only a Peruvian would notice/care) and also the wine selection does not include many Peruvian wines, it is mainly bottles from Napa and Argentina. :( Otherwise its a great place! read more

My fiancé and I were heading back to Vegas and really needed a break from the traffic-heavy I-10. Instead of heading to a fast food restaurant, I searched for good eats in cities along the freeway. So, thanks to Yelp and all the wonderful reviews, we stopped here for dinner and we were very pleased! First, we were offered slices of fresh and chewy French bread with this AMAZING green sauce - like a creamy cilantro sauce meets salsa verde. I wanted to put it on everything. We started with the ANTICUCHO MIXTO that featured skewers of marinated and grilled beef, chicken, fish, and shrimp with fried potatoes an yucca. The marinade was very flavorful and unique. A great mixture of spices and sauce. The meats were juicy and tender (except the beef was slightly dry), and the bed of lime- marinated red onions (SALSA CRIOLLA) on lettuce was a great compliment. The thick slices of small red potatoes were cooked and fried perfectly. Even the yucca wasn't too starchy; well prepared. I had the LOMO SALTADO, which is a classic Peruvian dish of lean top sirloin with sautéed red and white onions, tomatoes, and french fries, served with rice. Really delicious! Great flavor from a marinade that they integrated into the sauté and the rice went well with the dish. The french fries were an odd addition, however, didn't weaken the dish. Plus, I just looked at it like how fries or tater tots are put into burritos. Ruben had the POLLO A LA PLANCHA, marinated and grilled chicken breast served with rice, Salsa Criolla, and some sort of white sauce that tasted of mayonnaise (this was not tasty and seemed out of place, so we put it aside completely). The chicken was prepared with the same, if not, a similar marinade that was in the appetizer; also juicy and tender. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. We are certainly not Peruvian food connoisseurs, but we do know what tastes good, and everything really did! Our server was very friendly and attentive. I am an American and a very picky eater , my peruvian significant other wanted me to try this place because he is Peruvian and wanted me to get a taste of his culture. I came in open minded and my first thought was how beautiful and romantic the scenery inside the small restraunt was. We were seated in a corner of the dim room next to hundreds of bottles of wine. It was a very nice atmosphere. I tried the lomo Saltado and it was amazing! It was so flavorful and satisfying ; my other favorite was the green sauce . I put it on the lomo and dipped the bread in it and could not get enough of it! After he took me there once I became addicted. I always choose to come here when we want a quiet nice dinner . This is a really cute-looking restaurant, inside and out. My roommates and I enjoyed a quiet Sunday lunch here. I've never had Peruvian food, and I love exploring different types of cuisine, so I figured why not... We started off with 2 empanadas, one beef and one chicken. I preferred the beef over the chicken one because it was more flavorful. Both empanadas were warm with a flake-y crust served with this green, creamy sauce. The beef one had olives in it and the chicken one had onions. I followed my roommate's suggestion and ordered the Lomo Saltado, a classic Peruvian dish. My beef was pretty tender; I felt the sauce was a little salty however. It went well with the sauteed onions and french fries it sat on top of. The dish was served with rice. One roommate had the Peruvian Tortilla. I liked the texture of the dish, as it had fluffy potatoes, but it tasted a little bland to me, considering it had garlic and parsley. I hardly got any of that flavor in there. My other roommate followed our server's suggestion of Picante de Mariscos. It comes with assorted seafood - mussels, calamari, and shrimp - and potatoes, sauteed and covered in a creamy sauce, with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. The seafood was a little overcooked to our liking, and I thought the sauce was bland. Out of the three entrees sampled, I'd have to say my favorite was the Lomo Saltado.. but no WOW factor in any of the dishes. The meal turned around when we decided to order dessert. We split one Afajor and Helado de Lucuma. The afajor is a cookie sandwich with a sweet, caramel-like filling covered in powdered sugar. Light and deliciously satisfying. Helado de Lucuma was ice cream; it reminded me of taro.. not too sweet and creamy, and I LOVE taro flavored desserts. Overall, the dining experience wasn't bad at all. Appetizers and dessert made up for the entrees. So I give this place a 3.5 star rating. read more

My two visits here have not disappointed. Inka Trails is a small restaurant right off of Baseline that's easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but don't miss it! Gracious hosts and great food are what you'll find down this road. For an appetizer we had Papa a la Huancaina, which is a potato dish served with a delicious creamy cheese sauce. I never thought potatoes could be so yummy! They have several vegetarian options (yay!), but both times I've been there I've had the Peruvian Tortilla (egg and potato dish) because I loved it so much the first time. Next time, I'll try something new, I promise. This is the only restaurant that I've been to in recent memory that has Muller Thurgau on the wine list (it's one of my favorites). Sadly, it's only sold by the bottle. However, on my first visit, after inquiring about it, they popped a bottle for me and served a single glass. read more

Food: Three and a half stars (presentation could use some improvement). A few vegetarian entrees, mostly centered around potatoes and eggs. Service: Ditto (we were ignored for the first 15 minutes). Overall: Ditto (interior nicely done, but our corner by the window seemed isolated). Bottom line: not the best Peruvian I've had, but it's pretty good, esp for Claremont. The Cristal beer was the highlight for me. While I appreciate it as an alternative to the usual places we go to with S's mom, I can't keep giving out extra stars for that alone. I've been coming here for a few years and really enjoy their dishes. Usually, we have the ceviche, fried yucca, the pescado al ajo and the lomo saltado. All are tasty and we really like the ají sauce that they give you with the bread when you arrive (sometimes you have to ask for bread). Service has really been inconsistent. Sometimes it's very good and other times you walk out feeling like they don't give a sh*t about your business. The owner has been the worst offender, in our opinion, but the last couple of visits have gone off without a hitch. We like the food, which is why we keep coming back, plus it's local, but we can't help but go in with the expectation that we might get less-than-stellar service. read more
