They were the ONLY company that returned my calls and emails, following through to fruition!! Easy Renovations immediately understood my strange request.  They were consistently prompt and professional! The start date was scheduled within a reasonable amount of time.  They arrived right on time on the first day and were ready to begin instantly!  They were nothing but professional, friendly and respectful as they worked!!  I NEVER had to ask them to clean up.  At the finish of each day, the project area was cleaned such that it looked like it did when they first came in, sometimes better!!!  When they had finished the project, it was EXACTLY what I had envisioned!!  It looked as if it was already part of the house!!!  I was truly impressed with all aspects of Easy Renovation's execution, from idea to completion!! Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with Ted and would not recommend him due to his lack of professionalism. First of all, we had to reschedule my walk through 4 different times. This should have been my first clue to move on with other handymen I researched, but I tried to give Ted a chance. He actually offered to do my walk through free of charge because of the scheduling issues, so I moved forward with it. After the walk through, I was issued an estimate, which was reasonably priced. I decided that I would hire a smaller, independent contractor to some immediate small projects around the house before my family arrived (hang a ceiling fan, mirror, and flood light), and hire Ted and his company to complete larger projects once I had some more money saved (build out a few closets, hang some cabinets, repair a porch roof, and repair some doors). When I thanked him for the estimate and told him of my plans, he went off, and my experience quickly took a nosedive. He rambled on and on about how I wasted his time (even though I explicitly told him I would hire him at a later date for the larger projects) and then he made a biased statement that was offensive and unprofessional about working with customers in Southeast D.C. When I mentioned to him that I thought his comment was racially and social-economically charged and wasn't appreciated, he flipped out. I told him I would share an honest review of my experience, including his racially charged comment, and he threatened legal action against me, which isn't even possible. This was all such an unfortunate experience, but I appreciate him showing me who he was. If you are a person of color, ally, or someone who cares about how the people you hire treat others, I would not bother working with him and his company. If he will speak this way to a customer's face, I can only imagine how he speaks in private. Spend your money where you are celebrated not tolerated!

Unfortunately the owner Ted has misled the public and was dishonest in his comment to my first…read morereview. In his own words, he lied when he misstated that I spoke to his staff and that I demanded and "basically telling us to not even bother", which are false statements. Ted cannot produce any phone record documentation that a conversation ever took place. He may claim he called me, but Ted nor his staff have never actually spoken to me. Attached is a screen print image of the owner's comments where he referred to me as "he" and "his". If Ted or his staff actually spoke to me, then they would know that I am obviously a woman. Documented proof that the owner of this company has lied about the actual situation. Unbelievable the lies that this owner will claim. Fact is all correspondence was via documented emails directly with the owner. I have attached my original email to this updated review and the public will see that I was consistently courteous and even stated "Thank you" twice to him. The only reason that prompted the owner Ted to apologize was when he saw that I wrote a negative review revealing his scathing remarks to me. This obviously was not sincere because he waited a week after the incident and was scared that I exposed his true colors. He claimed to "apologize" for being rude and crass to me; however it was not genuine because exactly three days later on March 8th the owner attacks and blames me for his temper tantrum on his comments to my first review. Simply appalling. It is unfortunate because I only kindly declined to his bid (see original review with email correspondences). It is apparent to readers that Ted will vilify anyone that has a bad experience with him or his company. I encourage readers to review all of Ted's comments to the other customers that gave him a bad review. He accuses his customers of all the wrong doing. This owner does not take criticism as a learning experience nor does he take responsibility nor fault. He was even condescending to the reviewer that gave him a three-star review. It is obvious to all readers that in Ted's own words, that he continues to view that his customers are beneath him. In his own comment to me, "I should have over looked your email and moved on", validates this. Overall just a horrid experience from my interactions with the owner. Responding rudely to your customer base is wrong, but lying about the situation is setting an all time low.

I love my new Master Bath!…read more This is the second time I have hired Ryan Reph for a major remodeling project, and I couldn't be happier. All the vendors he sent me to were top notch, the team was always on time. Communication was awesome, and I always knew who was going to be there, and what they would be doing. Ryan has been doing this a LONG time, and while he strongly feels that the customer is always right, he is also more than willing to break down the pros and cons of any decision. You make the decision, but Ryan is more than able to give you the benefit of his experience. I love the quality of the materials and the workmanship, and the value for the product cannot be beat. Clean up was very thorough, and they sent a man back just to go over any small items after the job was done (I was hard pressed to find any). I can't really think why I would hire anyone else.

We contacted Selwa Reph to come to our house and start the process for giving us an estimate to renovate a 10'x12' bathroom. While discussing what we wanted, I pointed out that because it will be the most used bathroom in the house, we want it to be more than just a basic job and were willing to spend some money to use higher-end materials and to please reflect that in the price estimates for the contract. I asked the same of her that I did the other companies who came in....please don't quote us the lowest price estimate for materials....we're not buying plain white tile from Home Depot, so please estimate for midrange materials so if we have the budget we can go for even nicer stuff, but don't budget for the low-end materials. We have not done a renovation like this before, so we had no idea what cheaper materials cost vs more expensive ones, so we were relying on her expertise. When we showed a picture of a shower with glass tiles, we asked Selwa how those materials would change the prices quoted in the contract and she said it would be a difference of a few hundred dollars. We signed with Reph Remodeling and they gave us a price range of $8/SqFt for tiles to work with. They also sent the specs for the job to Architectural Tile and Ceramic in Vienna. When my wife and I showed up there to select tile, grout, flooring, etc., out of all the selections in that store, there was about 1/4th of one small bin that let us pick from about 20 basic porcelain tiles in that price range (see picture). With such a pathetic selection, we went ahead and picked out tiles we liked in the $16 price range. What had been an $1,850 allowance ballooned to a $5,920 estimate from Architectural Tile and Ceramic. And that amount was based on the contractors discounted prices! When I spoke with Selwa Reph about her estimate for $8/SqFt, she defended it and said I should have been able to find something in my price range there but said she would call the salesperson and review the quote they had provided us. She also claimed she specified the "difference of a few hundred dollars" for glass tiles was only in reference to the construction cost...not the added cost of the tiles which she did not mention or use to adjust her estimate of $8/SqFt....why didn't she add in the change in the cost to materials as well? When we went to another tile shop to redo the entire process of selecting materials, the manager of the store immediately caught an error on the original quote from the other store that added on over $1,300 to the quote; calling for a whole palate of 50 lb bags of thinset......56 bags in all....2,800 pounds of thinset for a 10'x12' bathroom. The other tile shop said we would need 4 bags at most. The total from Architectural Tile and Ceramic was still way over Selwa's estimate of $1,850, but a huge glaring error that should stand out to a company that works with this all day every day. When I asked Selwa about this error, she admitted that she did not actually review the order with the sales rep and just never caught the error. It was after bringing this issue up along with pointing out my displeasure about the lowball pricing estimate that Selwa Reph decided to terminate the contract and returned our deposit. While they get great reviews and I have no basis for commenting on the demo & construction team, they are not cheap so we expected better results at all stages of our interactions with them. If you decide to work with them, just be skeptical of the materials pricing unless you already know exactly what you're going to have them install and then make sure you have someone else review the order for materials accuracy. I will note that the contractor we wound up going with wound up costing less, immediately verified the estimates from the tile supplier and went over our selections to make sure he understood what we wanted so he could give us the most accurate estimate which wound up being within $150 of the final total for materials.

Part of the fireplace nosing didn't arrive on time and they said they would come back free of charge and install it when it did come in. The second time they came, it was the wrong color (I know I should have noticed it was the wrong color) but they said they would come back again, free of charge, when the right color came in. I also fired them to do some tile work around my fireplace. They are very attentive to detail and price fairly. I will definitely be using them again for future household projects.

Since that email contained critical conditions for repair (see review above), the lack of a reply made it unclear that repairs would be made at all. However, since my review, they reached out directly, gave an explanation for the delay and told me that I had been in the queue for repairs. Unfortunately, since it had already been months since the project finished and I had not received a reply to my last email, I had already begun to handle the warranty issues myself. I appreciated their subsequent offer to reimburse me for my time and effort on warranty repairs and their statement of intention to address the additional claims (which they said that they had not addressed until now as they had hoped to handle them at the same time as the warranty issues). The star rating in this case is for their improved customer service, but the original review for the work on the project remains unchanged. [I also want to address the implication in the owner's response, which is that posting a negative review is only used for dispute resolution. I was not using it for that purpose, as should be evident from the fact that I had moved ahead with repairs, nor do I think that that's a good reason for a review. Sharing experiences is how people learn, and detailed reviews can be useful for homeowners in preparing for home repairs, whether or not they use the reviewed provider. The more information provided, the easier it is to assess a review's value and apply it to one's own situations if useful. ]
