Very poor customer service and communications. I have been going to Interlocks for hot stone massages and was very happy. I recently went in for a consult and appointment for eye liner pigmentation. Everything was fine until I asked to see their insurance policy on this service. They were unable to show it to me at the appointment and did not feel comfortable doing the procedure and they said when the Spa director came in they would call me back to reschedule, so she could show me the insurance. No one called me back for a week. So I called them back and LeeAnn, the spa director, called me back and said they did not feel comfortable performing this procedure because I had eye plugs. I had asked my eye doctor if I could have this procedure done safely and she said it could be done with my eye plugs. The Spa director was very rude to me on the phone and talked at me instead of to me. Basically they refused to see me because they were afraid of infection I was told. They are entitled to their decision and I won't be going back there again for any service because of the way this whole service was handled - very unprofessional. Beware if you have this procedure done there or anywhere else that you ask about their insurance coverage. read more

My bridesmaids gave me a gift certificate to Interlocks for my bridal shower. I decided to use it for a full foil a week before my wedding. I asked for a master stylist and got Vicki who did my hair. She was very nice, made sure to do a good towel dry since i had no time to blow dry and wasnt overly talkative as i really wanted to relax and read. When i went home and my hair started to dry i realized that i had a large line across the top of my head. I called first thing the next day and they fit me in to fix it. I was very thankful that they did this. But at $145 without a blow dry i really expected more. My roots were barely touched and made me look like i had gone weeks without foils and there are still a couple of random splotches of color and another weird line that i didnt notice at first to get fixed. For the price, i would definitely expect more. I wont be recommending Interlocks for color services. My pedicure was nice though! read more

I've been seeing Camille for a few years now after being recommended by a friend, and I've been obsessed every single time with her services. She knows my hair to a T, is an excellent listener and understands exactly what I'm asking for even when I don't quite know the words. She's so talented, and in the very few times I've strayed to other salons due to not being close enough to drive to Interlocks, Camille has always been able to remedy any issues I have with my hair done by other salons. She is EXCELLENT at her job and clearly loves what she does. She's taken me platinum blonde, dimensional blonde, golden brown, bronde, and now an ashy highlighted brunette, and every single time she absolutely crushes it. The rest of the salon is so lovely and I've always had pleasant interactions with other stylists and the front desk, however briefly. The pricing is completely reasonable, especially for color correcting services. My hair always takes a few hours because I have lots of it and despite the long appointment time, I always feel the cost is affordable and appropriate. read more

Nail review only. I had Kat do a regular mani and it is probably the best mani ever. I got it Thursday night and Tuesday it is still 100% perfect (I usually chip my nail on day 2). It is about twice the price I usually pay in boston ($12 vs $25). One other downside: My appt was at 8:15pm and I got there at 8:00 (i had no problem waiting since i was the one that was early) but the reception said someone would be right out which I interpret as out in the next 5 mins and I sat there for 20 mins until 8:20.... read more

I have never had a great experience here, having tried them out several times over the years (although I do recall one or two stylists several years back who were actually quite friendly and capable, the atmosphere still rules in this case). They are overpriced and exude a weird aura of entitlement! Last time (yep, I mean the Last Time), my stylist ran wicked late and there was never an apology, much less any offer of discount. What, my time isn't important? If you want to pay more for your cut, you're better off on Newbury Street. Not impressed with their esthetician staff, either. And the receptionists are just terrible, seemingly unwilling to make one feel welcome. One stylist did not speak to me the entire time I sat in her chair, besides asking what cut I wanted. I agree with Stephani B. Save your money and your time and go to anywhere else in Newburyport to get your hair done. I thought their condescending attitude was surprising considering you have tons of other places in town that offer great service. I've been to salon & spas in Boston, NYC and Miami and the staff were always kind and accommodating with excellent quality cuts. So it is beyond me why a place in lil' ole Newburyport would portray themselves as something they are not. And when I found out that some stylists charge way more than others I was shocked. Nice Salon but very pricey!! I don't feel if a stylist can't get you to the proper color you should pay $25 for a toner and $35 for a Blow Dry that wasn't sectioned and my hair was in my eyes most of the blow dry. By the time I got home my blow dry did not stay.. I booked a Balyage and ended up getting a partial foil without the use of foils...sections were taken just like a foil and placed on a board and the bleached applied and not feathered out at the root area so that it had nice blending. I asked for no copper and left looking quite warm... Exactly what I didn't want. I want over impressed for the price. It's a shame because it was a pretty salon. read more

So I got the devacut done today by David. Let me just say that I am only giving the salon 2 stars because the staff there were so nice and David taught me how to use the devacurl products he used on me. However, getting the devacut I thought it was going to be more exciting or more educating about curls. When he came to my chair he asked me what I was getting done which I was hoping he already knew but no. Oh well, it wasn't a big deal. He asked me if I wanted the cut dry or wet. From the videos I've seen and read about the devacut it says that they cut your curls dry because that's what they're trained to do. So that kind of turned me off. It was my first time getting the devacut done so I had no idea how the whole process was going to be done. I also told him it was my first time but I don't think he was paying attention because when he was going to wash my hair he asked me if it was my first time. So he asked me if I cared about length and I said no, I just wanted more volume on the top of my hair because it's always flat. I love fros but I don't think he understood that. So he cut a bunch of pieces which gave the sides of my hair more volume but not much on the top. So he asked me if I wanted the styling of the devacut and I said yes which is what I chose in the appointment. But anyway, he washed my hair with the amazing products and put the gel in. I asked him about one of the new devacurl products and it seemed like he didn't even know about it because I want to know better ways to style my curly hair. So he put me under a light to somewhat dry it and then said he would diffuse it. He diffused my hair and he's like how's that? I told him that it had less volume than I came in. So he tried again but with my head down instead and it gave me slightly more volume but I was just so over it because he didn't know how to style my curly hair like I wanted so when he was "done" I said it was fine. At the end he showed me the products in the front because I'm looking to buy them. (I bought a devacurl kit online instead) I'm easily influenced to buy things but he wasn't trying so I didn't even bother thinking about buying it. I paid and left. I felt my hair in my car and it was still damp which I didn't like either. Last thing is that the only devacurl things he used was the shampoo, conditioner and gel. I was hoping that he would've used the devacurl diffuser and microfiber towels but he didn't. I'm so bummed honestly about my first devacut. read more

Katie gave me a deva cut and color and I was very happy with both. Location was great, salon is nice. Didn't feel high-pressure sales for product. I'll return (actually, I am next week)! Update: We broke up. I would still recommend it. The salon is really nice, I never left unhappy with my hair, it always looked really good. Ultimately, though, I went looking for a place/stylist that is more creative and out of the box. I'm not looking for a purple Mohawk but I do like hair color that is a bit more interesting. read more

Started this summer after going to a highend salon 2 towns away..when i called to inquire about a previous color (3 weeks earlier), they mentioned the woman had moved on AND gave the salon where she went! True confidence and business in the best sense. Vicki was wonderful, i didn't have to hear crazy sad stories lol.. just a few laughs/the best color/lowlights/shared knowledge I've had in years. This place is very clean and a great ambiance. Unfortunately the last two times I have gone I have been extremely disappointed. During one facial I had to ask the esthetician to slow down because she was giving me anxiety. I felt like I was a car being buffered...it was not relaxing. This past weekend I went back with a different lady. She was much better on the facial but she literally waxed off half my eyebrow! I thought it was strange how she didn't even ask me what I thought and didn't even offer a mirror. When I looked I was horrified! She didn't charge me for it...but still...I have to walk around like this! Needless to say...I am moving on to a different spa! read more

interlocks is a salon and day spa. they do it all, coloring, cut and blow dry, nails, waxing and make up. its great for a big night out, getting your hair, nails and eyebrows then maybe a massage? sounds good to me. they also do make up so you could go there just out of the shower then head home to change after your relaxing massage and you're all set. they are expensive, but no more than any other salon for hair. but i deduct 1 star becuase although they should charge more for hair stylists becuase their skills are excellent but eyebrow waxing for 15 or 20 bucks. is kind of rediculous, i mean i can get that for 10 bucks or when i went to school in NH it was 5 bucks 5!!!!. their wax isnt soo much better than anyone elses. my mom gets facials here all the time and they do them at late times like 7 and she loves it. and honestly they do a great job on her hair as well as my own and my sisters. we all go there. although i live in LA now and its about 85 bucks for a hair cut....WITH OUT BLOW DRY.....you want blow dry? at 65.... so yeah i say this place is a fucking bargain read more

Great atmosphere, really friendly people. They let you tip before your service and you can tip with your card if you need to, so no worry about bringing extra cash. Downside, way too pricey for the type of Salon and it's location - we're not in NYC. Have had some great times there though: Pedicure w/paraffin: It was fantastic. While my toes look lovely, my feet didn't stay soft for more than a day so that was a bit of a bummer. But what made this experience so great were the nail technicians. Went on a Wednesday night when they're open late, and they were having a blast. They laughed with us and made us feel SO comfortable. Eyebrow wax: Ask for Cookie. She's the best. The statement that the owner made is completely inaccurate. It was not a client that dropped the nail polish. And the technicians told me my bag was fine - once I pointed it out they took my bag and without permission attempted to clean it with nail polish remover! Furthermore no one contacted me offering to REPLACE my bag! They offered to get it cleaned!! I LOVE coming here for my facials! I see Sharon who is literally a miracle worker when it comes to making your skin look and feel it's best! I have been seeing Sharon regularly for about a year and my skin has NEVER looked this good. I knew from my first appointment with her she knew what she what she was doing- she took one look at my face and knew exactly what facial I needed. She doesn't push products on you, but if your interested she can suggest the right products for your skin and can educate you on how to use them properly. I travel about 40 minutes to get here and have many places closer to me that are top notch, but if you're like me and have difficult skin, when you find something that works and works amazingly for you, you don't switch it up! read more

I am not one to typically write reviews but this is my second time at Interlocks to get my hair dyed. Both times I had asked for a simple balayage and both times I have left with my hair being stripey, orange and brassy (which really stands out since my hair is naturally dark brown). The only reason I came back the second time was because I had a gift card and I thought I would give them a second chance since a couple years had passed. I didn't want to pay the extra money to get my hair blow dried afterwards since I felt I was paying enough already, so neither I or the stylist had seen the final product (which is another issue I have, if you are paying that much money to get your hair dyed, having to pay extra to see the final product dry doesn't seem right, how will you know if they did a good job before leaving?) I got home and my hair felt extremely dry and damaged already and was very orange compared to the photos I had shown her. I don't think any toner was used to attempt to get my hair to the right color, only bleach. I understand if my hair or the stylist isn't capable of getting my hair to the color I had wanted, but I believe that should have been discussed with me in both cases. Interlocks has a good reputation around town, the salon its self and the people are very nice, so I wanted to give them a second chance. But unfortunately overall the quality of the services do not match up to the prices at all and I am hesitant to go back to get it fixed to just be dissatisfied for a third time. read more

I've lived in the area for almost four years now and was still traveling 3 hours to Ct to see my old stylist because I have had too many horror hair stories to count- went down in May and was very discouraged by my stylist's lackadaisical approach to Covid guidelines for safety . Finally bit the bullet and made an appointment at Interlocks for color, and extensions for volume. Was a three step process because the first stylist couldn't take out my previous extensions so she just did the color - had to make a second appointment with a master stylist for extension removal and then a third appointment for new extensions. Unfortunately the first stylist didn't understand my concerns with color and I ended up with a permanent dye ( wanted a Demi ) and "hot" roots . I fully understand I have a complicated head of hair lol and I'm sure I didn't do my best to explain my needs. I thought I was just stuck with the damage . Went to second appointment with Katie and asked her if she thought my roots were off and she totally agreed - she removed my old extensions and corrected the color ( gratis ) . I was so happy they didn't charge me for the color correction ( I was already over $600 in to the salon for the first two appointments) . Came back for the third and was so happy it was Katie again ( was unsure who I would get for the new extensions ) - she adjusted the color selection of my new extensions - applied them so perfectly that they look incredibly natural - and gave me a lovely cut . Unfortunately I have to go back for root touch up again in just a couple of weeks because of the permanent hair color mistake , but Katie reassured me that it would only take a few more appointments before we can correct that . I have lived all over the world and have had so many hair experiences - Katie is TOP NOTCH and I would 100% recommend her to anyone who has any concerns or fears related to hair color and cut . read more

Vera saved my lashes, and she is an amazing master lash technician. I heard she was the best and she most definitely is! I came from another salon to get my lashes filled, the other salon had destroyed my lashes with excessive glue and extension glued to 3-6 lashes. Now this had caused eye problems like infected ingrown eyelash hairs: she recommended taking them off, scrubbing my lashes with baby oil to get the glue off. I did this and a few days later she put on an entire new set of volume lashes which look better than any other ones I've had. I've been converted because of Vera's honestly and expertise my lashes look better than ever read more

I been there 4 or 5 times and have had to have something fixed on the haircut most of those times. I thought Christy would get the hang of my hair and could do it really good, so I went back. This time I said don't cut too short - not more than an inch, curly hairs needs to be cut on a angle, I have family pictures in a couple of weeks etc. I got one of those old lady hair cuts that looks like it used 3 bowls to cut at different lengths, and at least an inch and a half was taken off. I don't have a clue how to make the top look normal at all since it has all these layers and I wanted it brushed to the side in a sweep sort of wave. Will not be able to do that for a long time. Fed up and not going back. For the cost they should get it right every time! read more

I have really been looking for a great hair salon. I just moved here from Los Angeles and was used to the spa treatment. I could not find a decent hair salon! But I found Interlocks and everything changed! They did a great job on my layers and side bangs. The stylists make good conversation and really can do almost anything! Quick service and a good envionrment makes it exceptional. However, since it was my first time there they did not go over the top on my layers and side bags like I wanted. Hopefully next time they will do more. STILL I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND INTERLOCKS! read more

Ginny, I spoke only to one of your managers who gave me the name of the manufacturer. You sold me the product it was your responsibility I know I was in business for (35) years I took the backlash. Your receptionist gave me a hard time only wanting to give me a credit for future service I had to argue with her for a refund. The only thing you had to do was call me yourself apologize and just offer me a free hair cutor anything.This was a fantastic old antique desk that cost me $400.00 to repair.
