We're going there for years and can't recommend enough the best for food services and ambiance.

Wow wow wow! Setareh's spice section is to die for. Their spice section is comprehensive and many of the spices have excellent prices. I saw selections where I was hunting high and low and at this store there were multiple versions of these difficult to obtain spices. You could buy the small packet, the medium packet or the large packet. I went and filled the many holes in my spice collection. In my mind, I had picked up an extensive selection of 8 spices and yet the price was a very reasonable 23 bucks. So far the Sadaf line of spices has been fresh. However, the Setareh spices have no fragrance, little taste. Although my sample size is limited, I would stay far away from this line. It was a little hard for me to figure out the geographic area that this store covers. I'm guessing it's middle eastern. Their tea selection is enormous. But there was a high focus on Bergamot plus different teas. Alas, Bergamot is not my favorite so most of these teas were not interesting for me. There was a ton of interesting food selections, but I am traveling so picking up the interesting items was impractical. I didn't have any real space to store them. Unlike a good many small ethnic markets, the hygiene in the store was very good. Check out was swift and efficient. read more

We went in and came back with hands full of food and groceries. Beef kubideh and chicken kabob came with tahchin and bbq tomatoes. Super tasty , portions are great and generous. The staff are nice and loyal. We also asked for handmade ice cream , fresh ingredients and lovely amount of Persian pistachios. read more

This was our first time here as we were on the hunt for kataifi pastry and pistachios. I fortunately they didn't have both those items but they did offer a sweet pistachio dessert which we really liked. We ended up buying a box of it. Seterah market has some good finds. I really like the fresh cutlet they make each week and they have the best maast o moosir I've ever had, Persian yogurt with shallots. The owner is friendly and they have a good variety of items for being a smaller store. read more

This is a very well organized and clean market. They have a fantastic spice section. They also serve food. I sampled a few items including Karafs ( celery stew). The mix of herbs and spices in the dish were delicious. The parking is easy. The prices are very reasonable too. read more

My fiancé is Persian and he was reminiscing about some deliciously amazing sandwich back from his home town. On the verge of drooling, he described the sandwich as "the softest bread stuffed with the best baloney like meat and veggies." He mentioned how much he missed this nostalgic meal so of course I had to hunt it down. Luckily, I found this meat (akin to a mortadella) called Kalbas at Setareh! I told the gents working there of my mission and they were very helpful by pointing out the exact meat I was looking for! Not only that, they told me what else to put into the sandwich: Persian cucumbers, tomatoes, a dash of salt and pepper, Italian parsley, and a little mayo (optional). I can't wait to surprise my guy! Setareh provided excellent customer service, it was clean, and from my unaccustomed eyes, it had many unique products to offer. I would definitely return again! read more

Setareh has the best spices around, fresh, inexpensive, in generous quantities: Shawerma, curry, fenugreek, lovely fresh tasting saffron. Setareh makes it easy to elevate a little roast chicken into epicurean heaven. Then there are the tea selections, British and Indian style, plus herbals. I could go on... read more

Nice Persian/Assyrian/middle eastern market with good selection of ethnic products. They have a variety of prepared food. My favs are their pork mortadella with garlic, olivieh salad and Persian "kotlet." The sandwiches either made on lavash bread or French roll. The only downside is that they run out of the prepared food, and some times they don't have what are you craving. Otherwise, I recommend this market and their prepared products. read more

I asked the older gentleman at register can I have a shopping bag please he kept shoving up everything in one bag however he knows it is impossible to fit all of these $150 worth of groceries in 2 plastic bag but stubborn man keeps trying after my second request he still kept trying, finally he give up and spared one extra plastic bag and give it to me like I asked for his kidney. I mean come on don't be that cheap just add $0.25 to my $150 bill like other stores or give me one damn bag and move on. read more

I like this place. My friend, who is Armenian, brought me here to get meat from the deli. The couple manning the store, although may seem short-tempered, are actually very nice. I think it's a cultural/language thing. They don't mean to be hard, they just seem like they are. They're actually very sweet people. I came here not really knowing what to get, and they answered all of my questions and even gave me samples to taste. They have fresh sweets, pickles, olives, cheeses and deli meats. read more

I'm so frustrated at the rude woman who is answering the phone. I'm calling to see if there's a product they have. She said, "call me back in 5 minutes, I'm very busy" I waited 10 minutes and called her back. She answered again, "Yes we have them!" She then hangs up the phone before I can get a price for the item from her. I call back, the line is busy, I call back the line doesn't answer, I call back and said calmly, "I'm sorry I keep calling, It seems I'm not able to get through. Can you please tell me how much the item costs?" She replied, I'm busy, click. I've never been in this store before. This is the first impression I get? Why would anyone want to shop here with several similar markets in the area? This review is only regarding the treatment I received. Not the store itself. This store is the cleanest and best organized of the San Jose area stores with Persian and Middle Eastern foods.. Goods (both hard goods and food items) on the shelves are clean, nicely organized and well presented. I found no outdated merchandise (sometimes an issue at other specialty markets). I purchased some loose leaf tea at very attractive prices. Parking is easy. The store is not huge, but you can move about reasonably well. Lighting is very good. I thought the staff was friendly - I liked the congenial neighborhood "vibe." Prices were reasonable, with several items as low or lower priced than I had seen elsewhere. Anyone who shops at Whole Foods or at the Lunardi's next door should check this store out. You will like find some items you currently buy but at better prices, or you will spot some food items to try for the first time. read more

This is a great Persian/Middle Eastern market, right next to Lunardi's. I've been stopping by for a few years to get fresh herbs, feta and such. They also have a full line of spices and other ingredients if you are trying to make amazing Persian dishes, e.g. from Bottom of the Pot cookbook. Maybe I missed this earlier, but I recently noticed they have their own spice mixes and they a great. I highly recommend their Chicken Shawerma spice mix. Sooo good. Put some Tumeric and their mix on Salmon filets and roasted in the oven last night and it was a big hit. Yum! read more

Let me start by saying that I have been to many ethnic markets, but this raises the bar. The place is clean and well organized, all staff I met were friendly and polite. The selection is mostly middle eastern and Persian, with some Eastern European items. What amazed me is the unique selection of products, like many flavors if cubed sugar imported from Iran and Russia, imported cheese and spreads a X great choice of olives. They have pirozhkies and deli items too. Go and check it out- it is like visiting museum with delicious items! :) read more

I love this market! To be fair, I usually only come here for two things: olives and feta cheese. This might be a bit embarrassing to admit but my mouth just started watering at the thought of their kalamata olives. SO good! Their prices are very fair and I love the flavor of the olives. The mixed is good, too, but they have pits. Whenever I make my famous (in certain circles) Mediterranean orzo salad, I come here first! read more

I love this place and have ever since we moved to this neighborhood six years ago. The couple that run it are ALWAYS polite to me and my little girl. I don't understand all the reviews where people say they are rude? Sometimes you get back what you put out, so maybe the customers are being rude to begin with! This is a good go-to place for Middle Eastern foods,if a bit small.At the counter there are Assyrian keychains and similar stuff,and some Assyrian posters too.You can find various baklava and Middle east cookies,and is a great place to get dates,doogh,halvah,various types of honey and jam from countries like Armenia,Greece,Israel,Morocco,and even some Indian items.There are plenty of kitchenware and other items like that you can get as gifts,and lots of coffees.There is a deli,too.Great local business. read more

Dishonest & rude. The prices on the items don't mean anything. They charge whatever they please at the register & don't give you a receipt. Last few times they overcharged me by 30 to 40percent. When I mentioned it to them, they said sorry we made a mistake. It's happened to many of our friends. That's not how you do business. The government will shut you down. read more

I stumbled upon Setareh Market upon the recommendation of a Persian restaurant owner nearby. Their selection is the best I have seen in Northern California. They carry all the basics but also some dishware, silverware and kitchenware found in most Persian homes. The owners are very nice, polite and helpful. I have no hesitation recommending this market to anyone in the San Jose area. I wish there were one like close to me. read more

My mom and I come to this relatively small, but well thought out Persian/middle eastern grocery store quite often. The prices are good and it pretty much has everything you need to cook up some yummy dishes. The owners are Persian/Assyrian, I believe, and they've always been very nice and polite and helpful. There is a small deli section up front where you can purchase fresh Feta cheese and Mortadella and also order up some tasty sandwiches. Ice cream is also available, as well as CD's and some nice hostess/serverware and dishes. What I like most about Setareh is that it is clean, bright and well organized and in a convenient location. This store is the cleanest Middle Eastern store in San Francisco Bay area . The staff are courteous and helpful and most important of all friendly and mannered .
