I had gotten a shakshuka as a breakfast dish, but perhaps would have liked one of the Asian bowls more. ----- Shakshuka: harissa tomato marinara, nuoc mam cilantro, three eggs, melted mozzarella, jalapeño sauce, toast ($27). I liked the uniqueness of the jalapeno sauce. The eggs were more on the fried and soft side rather than poached with a runny yolk. Although I do like cheese, I found the amount too heavy, especially when it started to solidify as the dish cooled down. The two slices of toast were thick and crunchy. ----- Drip Coffee (No Refills): brewed coffee with Southern Weather Blend by Onyx ($3.75). The coffee was good enough with just the cream and did not need any sugar. ----- Orange + Maple: espresso + almond milk + maple syrup + orange extract + cocoa powder (ice only) ($6.75). ----- Reservations can only be made for the afternoon and evening. A little disappointed. Ambiance was okay (too touristy), sat for a bit until we got attention of a server. We were given the brunch menu with only 2 sandwich's to chose from. Breakfast entrees ordered were the 30-hour slow cooked turkey club and the Shakshuka. When the food came out it was hot, the Shakushuka was impressive and good. The club sandwich was just o[dot] k[dot], a bit on the "buttery" side. I will say the online presentations look fantastic, but the $26 sandwich was overly priced, not to mention most menu items are really inflated and not worth a revisit. Meh... read more

What a wonderful little place! I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, and I don't even know where to begin! The service was exceptional, and even though the second person for my reservation was running late, the staff was incredibly patient! The menu did not have a lot of vegetarian options, but the waitress seemed more than happy to help me find options and even said I'd be able to customize almost every item to fit my needs! She even took multiple pictures for the group seated next to us, and she seemed patient and happy to help! I got the ricotta toast with jam and I was scared that it would be too sweet, but it was perfect! The ricotta layer was thick enough to help balance all the flavors and the jam was absolutely delicious! There isn't a lot of seating inside, so I would recommend making a reservation, but this place is a must try! I'll be back to try more items and can't wait to try the cocktails next time! read more

We found this place because it's pet friendly and we had our dog with us. They have amazing customer service! I really enjoyed my sweet and spicy katsu burger which I highly recommend! First time eating here. This place is small, only seats 16 people inside and half that outside. The staff was very friendly and made necessary modifications on the food I ordered. Was hoping to try their chilaquilles but breakfast ends at 11am. Instead I had their Vanilla Late, Greek Salad and BLTA Sando from the lunch Menu. I will say that their Vanilla Late was surprisingly yummy! Not too sweet and had a hint of vanilla. Besides that everything is over priced. They get three stars because the ambiance is nice but food is average. The sandwich was small and not worth $20+. They had the main doors open and I had to deal with fruit flies. One of them had a taste of my coffee. You are basically paying for the view since the restaurant is close to the beach. read more

Absolutely love this place. I admit I was first hesitant to come here due to their prices, but honestly the dishes blow me away. Their Cajun shrimp bowl is actually spicy, but in an addictive way. I wouldn't recommend it to those who are weak to spice because the burn does linger but it's truly my favorite dish on the menu. Large portion sizes too :) We also tried their truffle pasta and their short rib bowl, both of which were amazing in their own ways. Each dish is packed with flavor and you can tell they really thought out which ingredients to put in, as it all just flows together so well! Love the free drip coffee that comes with check in, plus it comes in the cutest cups. We also tried their specialty lattes which were interesting. The outdoor seating is great on a nice day and good to people watch, but I also liked the decor of their indoor seating! This was my first "indoor dining" experience post-Covid and I wasn't honestly sure what to expect. People are still spaced out fairly well even indoors, and the staff is taking precautions with face masks and sanitizing. The food was pretty good! I was a little surprised that ordering the French toast was just a single piece of bread, but it was filling and sizable. The fresh fruit was a nice touch. It came with preserves (fresh, I think! Or house made?), and some syrup and butter. Altogether a nice little meal if not quite what I expected. I think they may be a little bumpy in reopening just due to figuring out how to operate now that there are certain restrictions for indoor dining in place, but they're a charming little place and so close to the beach that it would be very reasonable to eat here and then walk to the ocean right after. It reminded me of Korean seaweed soup. The truffle and mentaiko pasta were good, but both were too salty for me. Was good to share! The bulgogi burger and fries were also good, but nothing special. Brought my dogs and they were so accommodating! We reserved through Resy and dogs are allowed for indoor dining. The staff was so nice and brought water in dog bowls. WOW! Came here at 11am and they were already full! The moment I saw the vibes I knew it was going to be a great brunch place. Got in line and needless to say the wait was worth it! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Their truffle and mentaiko pasta were the perfect level of creamy that tickles your taste buds yet without making you sick. The chicken katsu curry surprisingly tasted like authentic Japanese cuisine! Lastly, their waffles and fruits were so fresh and buttery, absolutely to die for! I came in with high expectations for a nice brunch before clinic. Sadly, I left kind of disappointed. Walking in before the lunch rush on a Wednesday, I was seated quickly. I noticed a sticky brown splotch on the table, and waited for my tableware to wipe it up before I settled down fully. Then I waited for 20 minutes as I saw two more parties get seated and their orders taken; I had to flag someone down to get my order in. I came in wanting to try the curry katsu, but saw the truffled breakfast linguine and decided to splurge. Kind of wish I didn't. The first time it came out, the poached egg was almost hard-boiled in texture, but they were happy to replace it for me. The second yolk was notably deeply yellow and pretty tasty. Then upon first bite of the pasta, you're hit with the bold taste of... roasted garlic. For a dish advertising shaved black truffle as the first ingredient, I had to work to find the less than 1 cm pieces embedded in the pasta. And to me, it's concerning when garlic overpowers that flavor. But the cream was rich, the bacon was crispy, the pasta was al dente, it was pretty pleasantly spicy, and the garlic itself was pleasant overall. Plus, it was a *huge* portion. But I probably would've gotten the same experience eating a double portion of spaghetti with some store bought Alfredo at home at literally 1/8th of the price. For a nearly $40 truffled pasta, I would like it to taste like truffles, not just a hint of umami. The espresso I also got was great, sweet and creamy and served with sparkling water, which was a nice touch. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, or maybe I came in on an off day. But habitually eating alone, you notice a few things. The host whose eyes bug out in judgment when you say table for one. The two parties that were seated after you, and ate and left before you. The film of stickiness on your table. I thought this place didn't live up to the hype, and I probably won't come back. Shout out to the guy with the curly hair who took care of me, though. He's the real homie. Same with the other guy who called me buddy as he cleaned my table. read more

Whoa!! This place is so cute and the food here is also really good :) The place is bustling, but they're able to maintain a quick turnaround. So even though we checked in at prime brunch time (11 am on a Saturday), we were seated pretty quickly, within 15 min, even though the waiter told us 30. I got the shakshuka and I would highly recommend! It comes with these super thick lovely slices of bread. I also got a drip coffee, and this has to be my favorite drip coffee so far. Was shocked that I could actually taste some ~chocolatey~ notes. Parking: would recommend parking in the public lots nearby that have the first 90 min free then walking on over. read more

The crust was extra crunchy. Good bread! The pasta had a huge serving but they charged like an extra $4 for burrata cheese ... which is a bit much. I think it should just be included. I mean $20 for pasta is a lot already but having to add an extra $4 felt like a scam. Might as well make the pasta $24. But overall it tasted pretty good and noodles were cooked good! Loved the unique flavor in this dish. The fries were good but a little overpriced. $8 for soggy fries- yikes. The only sauce they had to offer me was ketchup so I expected at least better sauce for $8. Service was good! So I'd honestly come back! Parking was impossible . You will probably have to park several blocks away. I had my boyfriend drop me at the front while I went and got the takeout and he picked me back up. I was so excited to see that this brunch spot in Santa Monica had Asian twists to it. After checking out the menu I decided to make a trip here. The food is slightly expensive with everything basically over $20 a dish at a small cafe but it's not like ridiculous considering it's right next to the ocean. We got 2 entrees and 2 drinks. Overall, the food is tasty and hits the spot. However, I don't know if I would actually come back for the food as nothing really blew me away. I would definitely come back for the coffee though. Chicken Katsu Curry (4/5) - Batter was flaky and chicken was juicy, cooked to perfection - The curry was so umami and well done - Would've enjoyed this more if it were slightly more spicy Oyakodon (3/5) - It just tastes like chopped up chicken breast with scrambled eggs and sweet onion - I couldn't taste any truffle kombu umami ponzu to be honest - Upside is that this bowl is pretty big, there's lots of rice and they certainly don't skimp out on the portions for this Latte (4/5) - Definitely strong coffee that's good quality. I was in Santa Monica today 1/11/21. (I had to go to the courthouse for this ridiculous red light ticket)... I have been adhering to the rules for the most part, and have been holed up in my house. Since I out in Santa Monica I decided to stop and grab a bite to eat. I pulled over and yelped my way to interstellar. I ordered the breakfast burrito and the garlic fries. Smelled heavenly when I opened up the garlic fries (I love garlic)! I was munching on those and then I decided to go into Nordstrom. Left my food in the car went to Nordstrom didn't see what I wanted. I went back into the car eating more garlic fries. Stopped at Bloomingdale's (which by the way they are closing, unfortunately. The Starbucks by Bloomies is leaving as well). Didn't see what I wanted at Bloomies. Went got to car ate some more fries. Came home left my food I had to run to the post office so I didn't get back to my food for at least an hour! When I came back it was still warm! I cut the burrito in half, took my first bite and was loving it! That burrito was so good I literally inhaled it! I added some of the garlic fries inside of the burrito it was so delicious absolutely delicious I can't wait to go back and try something else! read more

If you're wondering where to park and you want to walk around before or after your meal here park at the shore hotel across the street. The parking is off of Ocean. Only 10 bucks. An energetic young man waited on our table- I should've gotten his name because he was so fantastic. He was able to recommend exactly the right dishes for our table and how much to order. These are the dishes we ordered, and we were happy with all of them: Shakshuka, Korean Galbi Bowl, the chicken and the pork milk, bread sandwiches, as well as a fantastic dessert with milk, bread and fresh fruit. One of the best things about dining here is that they were not rushing us at all, and were very attentive as we sat there for at least two hours, catching up with our friends that we have not seen in sometime. Went to Interstellar a few weeks after it opened when I was visiting my friends in LA this summer. I am so happy I stopped by with my friends. It was perfect for a girl's brunch for a small group. The food was great, service was fast, and the vibe was immaculate. We got the Katsu Curry (to die for, the meat was so tender), Baby Kale salad with Shrimp (was good just wish there were more shrimp pieces), and the Super Nachos to share. The Katsu Curry was by far my favorite dish from the 3, but they were all very good. The salad was fresh and exactly what was stated and the nachos were delicious (but nothing too special). For example we enjoyed the thinly cut French Fries with parmesean cheese and white truffle oil. For an xtra $12, they shaved black truffles on it. At the next table, 4 adult repeat customers were wasting chicken Katsu curry while the kid had a Korean bulgoki burger. Many teas and coffees. Many pasta choices at dinner. Dinner menu hits a wide price range. $18 mini lobster rolls on brioche, $20 chicken katsu curry, $23 bulgogi burgers. To $42 fresh uni pasta, $30 branzino or $48 prime ribeye steak with fries. Best for adventurous diners but simpler well executed dishes can be found. I was drawn to the somewhat multicultural menu and wanted to try a bunch of different things. My husband and I ordered the chicken katsu curry and the chicken and waffles. While we thought we were getting different things to share and try, we ended up getting very similar things because both dishes started a panko fried chicken breast. I thought the curry was quite good (and I love that they remembered to include the pickles...a must have for me for Japanese curry!), but the chicken and waffles was somewhat standard. Drip coffee - I normally add creme and sugar to my coffee, but the beans they use here are fresh and so good, I drank it black (I rarely do this). Chilaquiles - this is by far one of my favorite breakfast foods in general. This place does it right. Eggs cooked to perfection, not overly saucy, and just the right mixture of cilantro & onions as to not overpower the rest of the dish. Cheesecake - WOW! Not your typical cheesecake. I was staying at a little building right next to Interstellar for my weekend in Santa Monica. The location is in the heart of all the action at Broadway and Ocean. I ordered the a waffle, egg, and bacon plate. Lightest, fluffiest waffles I have ever had. But still nice and crispy on the outside. Amazing. Brown butter and maple were delicious. The bacon was thick and crispy, a combination many places struggle with. The (scrambled) eggs tasted fresh and were cooked perfect. The service was friendly. Price was not bad considering the quality of the food and the location. The coffee was fantastic as well, I couldn't have asked for anything to be better. read more
