Ordered from the lunch menu so i'm assuming that's the portion size for what was ordered. Wound up ordering 2 sushi rolls and an appetizer to supplement the meal. There was a hair in the bottom of my bowl of rice. (I had turned my bowl upside down onto the sauce from my meat.) The waitress was very apologetic and there wass no fuss about correcting the issue. I came on a Saturday night and was lucky enough to get a seat at the bar. My boyfriend and I ordered two drinks, 4 rolls of sushi, and the fried gyoza. The bartender was so nice and informative and really helped us since it was our first time. The sushi arrived so fast it was unreal. We got all four rolls on a Saturday night, in I kid you not, 10 minutes! The gyoza came shortly after. All of which were so yummy! My favorite was the dragon roll. The sushi was fresh and the service was great! I would say the price is a little expensive but that's what you would expect from a sushi place. My sister recommended I try Inyo since I was in the area and had some time to kill. I cannot thank her enough. The spring rolls served hot and fresh. They are served with a cherry dipping sauce. The Mongolian Beef was absolutely DELICIOUS. The meet was tender and flavorful. The vegetables could have been seasoned a little, but I fixed that by adding soy sauce. This was the worst restaurant experience I've had in years. It took 20 minutes for anyone to take our drink order. The manager had walked by our table that was empty multiple times without even checking in on us. We did see him help other tables. My wife and I were the only lgbtq table at the time so I can only assume that was the issue which is sad since they are located in Ferndale. When we did order the hamachi was not suitable for anyone to eat and I order this at every sushi spot I go to. It was old and I was worried that I would get sick so I literally spit it out. I love sushi. I've been here several times, and they're always excellent with their sushi. The rice is perfectly cooked, an underrated aspect of sushi: soft, with the slightest chew to it. Meats and vegetables are high quality; I got the Caterpillar Roll this time, which has eel and marinaded crab meat with an artfully prepared cap of avocado. And, you get a lot for your money: that $13 roll was split into 8 pieces of sushi. Reasonable prices extend to the bar: a 22 ounce can of Sapporo (an excellent Japanese lager) is $7, and most beers are $5. A miso or hot & sour soup costs $4 for a cup. The miso is hearty with tofu, wakame (seaweed), and scallions, but it's bland. I expect a fermented salty quality, but it's much too subtle here. My wife got an excellent grilled chicken salad, with asparagus, carrots, and olives. She added feta cheese, and topped it with an excellent sesame miso dressing. I just wish the service were as good as everything else here. I'm glad we weren't in a hurry, because it was very slow. We had to remind the server more than once about things we wanted. This is honestly the only thing keeping this from a perfect rating. But, it's not enough to keep me from coming back. read more

Stopped in at Inyo during Woodward cruise to just kind of get away from the noise and heat and was very pleasantly surprised. Ambiance is very nice dimmed lights, clean tables pleasant music playing. We were sited right away. I have ordered a Lychee martini and they were very good and strong enough. Their draft beer selection was non existent my husband opted out for bottled Japanese beer. First we have ordered a Duck soup and the waitress prompted us that its a big portion and we should share it. What can i say it was delicious. Huge pot with tons of different types of mushrooms, tofu and duck meat peaces. I want to come back just for the soup. Onto the appetizers we have ordered Tuna tacos and Tuna Tartar. To me it lacked a bit of a seasoning and may be a sauce on the side. Portions are small so not a shareable one for sure. I am beyond disappointed that they have chosen to remove the chicken sushi. I would come here specifically for that since I can't eat seafood!! Awesome place! The decor inside was very well-done. It was dim inside, with closed-in booths along the wall, but there were lots of lights strung around. It made for a really neat atmosphere. Even better yet, the food was delicious! I always get fried rice at asian or Thai places. And this fried rice was delicious! My friend tried their veggie sushi roles too, which she enjoyed. The drink options were very unique, and the names for all of them were well-thought of too. I had the cherry blossom (I think that was the name- trying to recall from memory) cocktail. Soo good! Visited during Covid on Friday night, was seated immediately. There was a wait for a booth, so accepted a hightop table. Social distancing and masks were enforced. Service wise, the people cleaning the table was more attentive than our actual waitress. We never even got her name, she just walked up to the table and asked if we were ready to order. The menu has a large variety, so it was hard to choose. You would have thought the waitress would have offered some suggestions. Although, I did ask what she recommended and her suggestion was terrible. I can't remember the name but it had a jalapeño on top and was too bland to eat. The pepper steak had a good gravy but the meat was bland. I took it home and seasoned it and ate it for breakfast the next day. For me the Volcano sushi was the best. It is tantalizing to the eyes, had great flavor - so tasty. So many options on the menu, the ambiance was good. A nice date night place. I would return to try more things. read more

My brother and I found a decent deal on groupon (make sure to check the site out for deals, it's kinda pricey here imo) and decided to check this place out. First time for both of us. Wait for a table wasn't too long despite coming on a busy Thursday evening. The waitress that we had was nice but she never came to check up on us until when we were almost done eating (wanted our water refilled). Food was great! My brother and I enjoyed their sushi a lot; rolls seemed a bit small though. Ordered desserts afterwards... would say you can skip out on desserts. Kinda pricey and wasn't anything too special. I've been going here since 2017, and I could honestly say that the sushi is consistently of the highest quality. I've become well-acquainted with the staff members over the years, and they're undeniably hardworking yet can be personable during the slower hours. I'm a POC, and have dealt with issues of racism from other fine dining restaurants in the area-- but their service has always made me feel extremely welcome. The menu items are on the higher end, but the service, food, and cleanliness of the restaurant make every experience worth it. This place gets a five star review due to it being literally the only sushi joint (that I'm aware of) with a dedicated gluten free menu. I have celiac disease and am severely allergic to gluten. I don't choose to be gluten free because of diet change, I must be gluten free or else I suffer for weeks and sometimes longer. I can tell within 30 minutes of eating something that is cross contaminated because hives, rashes and IBS kicks in. I cannot express my relief and gratitude knowing that there is a menu for people like me who are extremely limited in enjoying the food they love, relief and gratitude knowing that the staff reassures me when the food arrives that they double checked with the cook that my food is safe for me to eat. Is it cheap? No. But a gluten free life isn't cheap anyways. I'll pay almost anything to be able to eat with my friends when out and about and experience a "normal" meal. All of that being said, I do enjoy the sushi here. I might be biased because I'm so limited in what I can eat at restaurants that anything I do get to have that resembles "normal" eating, makes me feel good and that makes food tastes so good lol. I did eat here before being diagnosed and enjoyed the sushi then as well. If you're gluten free and/or have a gluten sensitivity, gluten allergy, celiac disease, I strongly recommend Inyo. Thank you, Inyo, for providing dietary safety to those of us who feel so isolated by our allergies. I had lunch here with my two sons and they did most of the choosing for our meal!! I like spicy sushi rolls so I helped to select off the regular sushi menu for all of us - spicy tuna roll, spicy California roll and spicy crunchy salmon roll. We all got miso soup and then we ordered a $35 chefs choice and a Nigiri salmon roll. For the chefs choice you give them the dollar amount and they make up the rolls to fit the budget. They make up rolls that are not on the menu. You just tell them what foods you don't like so they will make it to your liking!! We didn't want eel in our choices. The rolls they made up were shrimp, tuna and salmon and were very good. So all that food was about $80 for 3 of us and included two bloody Mary's which were discounted on the Sunday menu. One of my sons is really into sushi and he really liked the sushi at this restaurant better than the Royal Oak sushi place we usually go to. read more

Throughout the entire meal. Pretty sure I had food poisoning this morning, not kidding. Waiter was really nice and attentive, but misgendered me (and he was a member of the LGBTQ community, so that was disheartening). The breading was fine, but when I tried to eat a piece of separated meat, it was tasteless and very old. Some pieces were black. I really tried eating it because I ordered it as my entree with some fried rice. I bit into one piece and almost puked at whatever on earth flowed into my mouth. Absolutely disgusting! I put it to the side and didn't look at it again. I didn't send it back because it was meant to be an appy and the portion was small, but I should have gotten than $14 monstrosity removed. We walked in thru the back door where they have the hostess stand and waited to be seated. No one paid any attention to us for a while and then finally the hostess escorted us to one of the high top tables out front. We waited another 15 minutes and just when we thought she returned to take our order, she informed us that she needed to move us to a booth because they had a large party coming in and needed this whole area. We moved to a booth, where we proceeded to wait and wait and wait...there was a lot of waiting. Finally a waitress took our order. We waited a long while for our order to arrive. After our order arrived we waited for utensils... Me and my husband both ordered the sashimi salad, my son ordered hunan chicken and miso soup. We all shared an edename appetizer. This restaurant is on the expensive side but the portions were very large. The sashimi salad looked amazing and the fish was very fresh, we both especially enjoyed the raw asparagus which neither of us thought of adding to a salad before. My sons chicken was tasty but there was little actual chicken, two pieces of broccoli and a lot of onions and peppers. The miso soup and edename were delicious (or we were so hungry by that point that a salt lick would be delicious). Overall we liked the food and there are a lot of interesting things on the menu but we wouldn't come back here because of the painfully slow service. There are too many other fantastic dining options in the area. P.S sad that the West Bloomfield location closed. We frequented that one and it was nothing short of five stars. read more

Appetizers: ordered the Tuna Tacos - good taco flavor, ahi was fresh but very bland, three small tacos. The Shrimp & Mushroom Shu Mai - could not taste mushroom and barely the shrimp, all noodle and very Small! We ordered the Vegas roll, it was a little better in terms of flavor but nothing special. Sadly, we are still hungry. Now we are waiting on a last order that will take at least 15-18 minutes. The Dynamite Roll. So a few months ago, I entered an Instagram contest from Inyo ... and I ended up winning $100 to use towards dinner. I had never been there before - I like sushi but I'm not a super adventurous sushi eater. My boyfriend and I finally stopped by yesterday, and everything was delicious. We started off with drinks - I had a pear martini and he had their version of a Moscow Mule. After that, we had the roll that they light on fire (Dynamite roll) which was good, though not my favorite of the night. We also had the sweet potato roll, chicken teriyaki roll, and Caterpillar roll. I had never had sweet potato sushi before and it was very good, as was the chicken teriyaki roll (not your typical sushi roll!). The Caterpillar roll was good too and was probably my favorite of the two fish-included rolls that we had. The presentation of all of the rolls was very nice, too. We also ordered the Wagyu on the Rock, which was a "cook it yourself" type experience. Interestingly, that was the only dish I wasn't crazy about - wagyu is supposed to be very tender, but this tasted just like thin sirloin. To finish we had the Curry Chicken Katsu and the crunchy crab roll (way better than Kona's!). At that point we were so stuffed that we were just taking bites of everything, though. Our waitress, Sydney, was very good, as well - I told her I wasn't super familiar with sushi, and she suggested a few rolls for us to try. I will definitely be back at some point - today I bought the Groupon deal, where you pay $26 to get $50 worth of food (Sun-Thurs for dinner only). They also do a happy hour, 4-8pm, bar-only, which looked to have some decent deals. read more

This is my new favorite place to go to for good food and great drinks. The restaurant is not that big but I loved how intimate the setting was. The hostess and waiter were very accommodating and made our time there enjoyable. The food was good. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and that came with sautéed scallions, vegetables, and rice.
