    Tuna roll

My wife and I had pre concert dinner here before seeing The Afghan Wigs at Webster Hall. It was our first time and we were pleasantly surprised about not only the decor ( which we loved) but the food was very good ! Our waitress was terrific and you get seated at a communal table which we did not mind at all We started with Edemame and I had the popular ramen pork katsu soup while my wife had tuna roll - although the tuna was on top of the sushi which was different so FYI - it's not a traditional tuna sushi roll - their main item and star are all the ramen soups ! We had a great time and will be back for sure

Being our first meal of the weekend we could not be more impressed. First of all, the ambiance is so welcoming and relaxed. It was just enjoyable to walk in and feel right at home. Every single employee was a delight from the host to the amazing server. Dolma was so attentive and make sure we didn't need a thing. She made recommendations that enhanced our experience. The food was phenomenal. Every bite was savored to perfection and we couldn't stop eating. We happened upon this place and it was such a happy accident. We absolutely recommend and will certainly be back!

Ippudo is a well-known ramen spot that originally started in Japan in 1985 and eventually made its way to NYC, bringing its signature tonkotsu style ramen with it. We ordered the KARAKA SPICY and SPICY MISO, both with added eggs, and started with the pork bun which I always love. The ramen was good but pretty average overall. I enjoyed my meal, but nothing really stood out, and I'm not in a rush to go back. The service was also nothing special, and I'm personally not a fan of the B health rating

Not as good as before Got the miso ramen and dandan Subbed in thick wavy noodles Used to get akamaru modern and that was stellar But overall the broth was not as flavorful as it once was Thin noddles aren't my fav but the broth was the key.

Very solid choice for ramen when it comes to Ippudo. Went around 6pm on a random Thursday and there was no line, which honestly already makes it better than waiting forever at Ichiran. They're also doing a promo with free noodle refills if you still have broth left in your bowl, which is pretty fun haha (i couldn't have the 2nd bowl) The truffle fries were really good too, they'd be even better with a side of spicy mayo.

I came to Ippudo probably a decade ago. I remember them having little private booths unless I am remember incorrectly. No private booths this time. I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon so no crowds. I also remember waiting forever for a table in the past. They have an ample selection of vegetarian options. I chose the Daiku ramen. It came out super fast. It was good but after a while I got sick of the richness of the broth and had to stop eating. Bathrooms are located down a flight of stairs past a kitchen area. Don't know what the hell people were doing down there but I stood around 10 minutes waiting for a bathroom to open up. The bathrooms were clean. Staff were attentive. Prices are average. They have a B rating right now but that didn't deter me and nothing seemed filthy.

Came for a spontaneous dinner on a Thursday around 7pm and there wasn't a wait. The ramen that had the Sichuan flavor (I forget the name) was unique and the best of the three we ordered for sure! We did have to sit at a communal table but it wasn't too bad bc there was quite a bad of space. Food came out super fast, it was quite vibey overall!

Good ramen. The staff was all very nice and they let us sit there and chat for a while without pushing us out. Also a nice ambiance and space. Would go back

((4.25 stars)) haven't been to Ippudo in a long time--maybe in over 10 years...the ramen here definitely was one of the best city back when there were not as many noodle spots in NYC as there are now. however Ippudo set the standard back in the late naughts and raised the culture of ramen when it first opened its doors. headed here for lunch with family for some Japanese food, recently. the restaurant has two spaces: the small waiting area / bar area and the larger dining room. the interior decor is Japanese but not kitschy. fairly well-maintained, uncluttered, clean space, but the dining area is fairly loud, so prepare to increase your volume if you're having a conversation. there are a variety of seating options for solos, couples, and groups. the way the seating is set up you are likely to be sitting with strangers in areas of the restaurant...but the seating is kinda spacious so you're not on top of each other even if you are sitting with people you don't know. while this is a tonkotsu-styled ramen restaurant, Ippudo also serves other dishes if you don't feel like a noodle soup which was my mood that day. some of the dishes we ordered: edamame, karaage (Japanese fried chicken), spicy shrimp tempura rolls, and Shiromaru Motoaji ramen. edamame is always a good light munch at any Japanese restaurant and here it is garlicky and seasoned well. the karaage (5 piece) is made up of big pieces of dark meat fried to tasty seasoned crunchiness. shareable in a group bc the pieces are large and filling. definitely recommend it as an appetizer or the smaller portion version as part of a main. the spicy shrimp tempura roll works well to share or eat as a main. big portion of a sushi roll: crunchy battered shrimp, avocado, ber, and more topped with spicy mayo sauce + unagi sauce. filling. and the Shiromaru Motoaji ramen was enjoyed. didn't even try a slurp of the noods because i was so full. the service was friendly, quick, and had the right amount of attentiveness. Ippudo has always been busy place at lunch or dinner time. it was practically full by 1ish pm. there was no wait for a table if you get there by 12 noon or so. you can't make reservations here, so my advice is get here with your whole group on the earlier side if you don't want to wait long. this is sorta must-try if you want to try iconic places in NYC's noodle landscape.

    Tort

The desserts are absolutely demented!!! First I asked the waitress for recommendations: She suggested I get the gelato. "coffee?" "No." "Coconut?" "No." "Lemon?" No." "Then how about the matcha tiramisu?" "Oh that sounds great! I'll get the tort." And I must say, I'm happy I did, because that tort made me RETORTTTEDDD. Sooo yummy. I think they put crack in it or summin. My eyes are still crossed. It took me tree hours to right this review. Absolutely orgasmic tort. Will be going back soon. Fiv stars

This place is just ok. The ramen is definitely good don't get me wrong but for the price tag, it's not worth it. There are plenty of other equally as yummy (if not better) ramen places for a fraction of the price. I got the vegetarian spicy miso ramen which was good but I found it to be oily and the raw onions to be off putting (I would definitely do this without the onions next time). Also, why are all the vegetarian ramens the same price (or more!) than the ones with meat? Doesn't make sense to me. Overall, good to try once but don't expect anything out of this world.

    Christina N.

Slightly confusing entrance, but we made it haha. Ippudo is a solid ramen spot in the East Village that works for more intimate meetings as well as larger parties. It's unique in that you may be sat at a larger table with other parties, but honestly the music is loud enough that you won't hear them. It just feels closer to a no-frills ramen place where everything comes out quickly. I ordered the akamaru shinaji and it was great! Nothing super special, but it was flavorful and the available toppings were nice. The pork chashu was thin and tender so it was easy to eat. I will say it got a bit too salty towards the end, but that didn't bother me as much.

Is this location still open for operation? I ran past it during Summer Streets on August 17th and the place seemed permanently closed.

It was open in July 2024. Had lunch there

Do they open on new year?

They will be closed. Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cme8DDVSprF/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

It is possbpible to make a reservation?

    Sadly, no.

Do they have a happy hour?

Do they take reservations for parties of 5 or more?

Today they said they don't do reservations. I had a party of 8

Are they just doing take out or is indoor dining available again?

    Indoor dining is available.

For those who have done their new takeout: Do the cooked noodles travel well? Or would you recommend ordering with un-cooked noodles instead?

Ow that there is no dine in, is Ippudo going to have takeout?

There IS dine-in during Covid (when we 'dined in' in mid-October 2020). There is also take-out.

Any ramen on the menu that doesn't have pork in it (pork, pork broth, ham, bacon, gelatin)?

Yes! I'm vegetarian and they have the best ramen broth that's not pork based or meat based.

We went around 7 on a Saturday and there was a 2.5 hour wait, is this a normal occurrence?

Yeah, Friday & Saturday nights are pretty busy. We had really good luck and were seated immediately on a Saturday around 12:30 PM.

Typically how long is the wait for four people?

It really depends on the time and the day but during peak hours expect at least a 30 minute wait.

Why can't I order ramen to go? I went there to get ramen to go because I'm sick and I Wanted to eat at Home, and you guys said this was not possible 😕

    10 person please?

    Not a problem.

Is it BYOB? Also, do they accept reservations? Last question, does anyone know their least busiest times on The Weekends?

Sorry pal, NYC BYOB is a rare thing reserved for places that can't afford a liquor license. But you are in luck! Everyplace is BYOB with a contigo my friend! In all… Read more

Will there be a wait Monday around 11?

Nopes. I often go there by 12 weekdays and never had a wait. I had to wait for like 5 mins or so when I reached around 12:30

How long is the wait if I show up at 11am tmrw morning?

Not long if you come right when they open.

Are there any gluten free ramen options?

Yes, there's one vegetarian gf option.

How's the weekend lunch wait for two Nowadays?

    1.5 hours

Do they use MSG? I've been trying to call and ask but they don't answer the phone. I'm very allergic and don't want to go all the way there to find out I can't eat it!

There’s no hard incriminating evidence that Ippudo uses MSG but the ramens we sampled had so much sodium that i had to guzzle down two bottles of water. So if I were a betting person, in my opinion, Ippudo most likely uses MSG. Hope this helps and… Read more

This one is located in NYC Manhattan 36th street. It's not very noticeable but has large door with its name on it. Inside is small space with bar counter, table and seats and kitchen at the end with dim lighting with pop music. We made a reservation but looks was it wasn't too busy since it had just opened at 11:45am. We were quickly sat down and looked through the menu with scan code. They offer variety of Japanese and fusion dish like tebasaki chicken wings, buns, rice ball, and few noodle dish like hiyashi chuuka cold noodle, ramen, tsukemen, and mazemen. We ordered few appetizers like chashu rice ball, mushroom buns, and i got spicy tan tan ramen and my partner got the miso ginger ramen. Chashu rice ball came with chashu, sauce, rice wrapped with nori. It's more like a sushi roll than a rice ball but it was ok. The pork was a bit dry and was messy to eat. Although it has omikuji/fortune slip inside that you pull out which is a unexpected fun addition to the dish. I ended up getting daikichi which means great luck. Mushroom buns were fluffy, flavorful and tasty despite vegetarian option. The spicy tan ramen was spicy, creamy and savory. The ramen came with half egg, few slices of chashu, menma, ground pork with spicy miso which you mix together. The broth is combination of rich, spicy and creamy and pretty strong sesame flavor. Noodles are thicker and chewer than what i'm used to. Chashu was nice and tender. menma was ok not very flavorful. Overall a solid ramen but not particularly special. I honestly prefer ichiran better. Service was good and staffs were attentive Overall a good experience but it didn't stand out enough for me to come back. Cool place and maybe nice for dates or if you want to drink as well. Price is definitely on the higher side for ramen. I've had ramen in Japan and my standard is high but i can find similar type of restaurant that is cheaper closer to home in US.

For a restaurant, especially one serving customizable ramen dishes, with a allergy list post on the wall by the counter where I sat at B1, a little flexibility or empathy toward food allergies would go a long way. The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the overall dining experience uncomfortable. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and sadly this visit fell short. The smashed cucumber was good. Spicy dumpling was good. Ramen broth was light, not as rich or flavorful as others.
