It didn't feel like anything was freshly prepared here. The pork and the egg were both ice cold in my soup. The ramen broth itself was also not as hot as it should've been. Flavors were basic and the meal as a whole left so much to be desired. Maybe I should've tried the miso ramen.

Overall a good ramen spot, but I wouldn't say the best. I had the spicy veggie miso ramen, which was flavorful and spicy. It was perfect for a cold day. My husband got the chicken paitan and it was bland and too salty. The service was great, however, so I did really enjoy that!

One of the BEST ramen I've ever tried! Before you come at me, I'm referring to a fully vegetarian/vegan ramen - it's hard to come across a delicious, hearty, packed with flavor broth (unless you go straight to the motherland). We came here with a group of friends (shout out to our friend for bringing us here) and we sat in the quieter area to the back with the bench chairs. Loved this little room it's perfect for a cozy night with friends and definitely a lot quieter than the regular room. Of course, this place is pretty small to begin with but attention to detail, service and food flavors is what it's all about. We started things off with the spicy kyuri pickles which were absolutely delicious. The rice vinegar is what gave it that perfect amount of punch without making you feel like you were eating salt and vinegar chips (which I LOVE). Spice level wasn't too spicy for me but it does have a kick. Me and my husband ordered different ramens so we could try the different flavors and I'm SO glad we did. The veggie spicy miso red chili is what stole my heart and lives rent free in my taste buds (they too have a memory hehe). I think that dish was perfectly balanced without being overpowering or too spicy. The biggest amount of spice does sit at the bottom of the bowl and as I was siping my last bits of broth away that's when I noticed my pleasant little wake up call - which again for me it wasn't that spicy since I have a pretty high tolerance. IT WAS SO SO SO SO SO DELICOUS! Hubby's ramen was out of this world in its own way. He ordered the truffled vegan shoyu and WOW. It was one of those broths that can stand alone and make your taste buds dance and go crazy. It was absolutely incredible and one slurp lead to the next. Both of the ramen dishes were incredible - I personally don't eat eggs but even the eggs were beautiful. Absolutely love this place and can't wait to go back. It's definitely a great spot during the winter to warm you up. Bowls are pretty generous and if you're hungry enough you'll eat it all. If you want to leave some room for dessert or grab something else in the area, then you're good to go if you share one. My greedy self would never at this spot but hey, you do you :) One last thing, LOVED that everyone can pay for their own thing at your tables bill using the QR code to split and pay what you want. That way you don't have to awkwardly make your server do it for you and try to figure it all out while that one lemonade someone forgot to pay for etc haha. Super cool feature!

Best dish was the tonkatsu tsukumen. The vinegar that comes on the side, I felt, was necessary to round it out. It was a tad salty. The appetizers, I would skip. Not big enough in flavor. The popular chicken gintai dish was interesting; I just prefer the tsukumen. The wait was well over an hour if you didn't have a reservation and the place was packed the entire time I was there.

Plenty of seating, easy to reserve online. Lots of delicious appetizer options and tsukemen/ramen. Friendly service. I like their tsukemen better than their ramen though.

I have to say, I'm pretty surprised at the relatively low rating for this place. On Google they have some stellar reviews which is what made me try this place out. I had the Chicken Paitan which was full of flavour, it was so yummy! I loved the little crunchy pieces that they added to the soup. I also had the ube pudding for dessert, and this was the real showstopper in my opinion. It might be the best ube dessert I've ever had.

Got takeout from Ivan's. It was quick and not a wait. Everything came wrapped and boxed well. Soup was separated from the ramen and still hot. Fried chicken stayed intact with its yuzu mayo sauce. The only thing was the broth was salty. Everything else was fine and enjoyable. Points for the yuzu mayo dipping sauce as it paired well with the fried chicken. Recommend for a cold night!

Good ramen. I came for the roasted tomato and I wasn't disappointed. I first had Ivan ramen when I first moved to NYC in 2014, back when there was a location near Javits in some random food court. I was unimpressed. I've learned more about the NYC noodle scene since, including some TV/YouTube features about Ivan's personal story about a ramen obsessive. With that story in mind, I enjoyed my tonkotsu ramen ($20) with a tomato ($3) added. I prefer bone broths over simple shio, and indeed the whole bowl was harmonious. No weak components, and I left sated and happy. A glass of house sake was $10. Easy to walk in for weekday lunch (office lunch break, perhaps?). A bright, airy dining galley filled with tables for 1-2 and counter seating.

As a person who's travelled to Japan twice already and has spent 6 weeks total together. I can say that I love RAMEN. Ivan ramen is to be the best ramen in the US. The chicken paitan ramen is made with intent and perfection. Leaves you wanting to come back for more. I visit NY about once a year and I never go without heading to Ivan's ramen. Along with amazing ramen they have amazing appetizers and beer and sake to choose from. This is my one tip recommended spot o friends when they visit NY. Not to mention my last visit to Las Vegas where I found his second smaller location but with the same great taste I crave on the weekly!

Average ramen. I walked in for 2 and was seated right away. Had the tonkotsu and chicken paitan. The tonkotsu was ok, not too flavorful. The chicken paitan was salty and oily but more flavorful. There are better ramen at its price point.

(Last visited June 4, 2023.) Hanging out in NYC with some friends and we were on the lower east side this time. We were walking down the street and the incredible umami smell of ramen wafted our noses so we decided on Ivan Ramen! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: This place may look a little small, but there's a lot of space in here in separate compartments. It was SUPER busy so we did have to wait a little bit, but it wasn't too bad. It was nice outside so we actually went IN to the restaurant then out like, a side door to another outdoor section that was so beautifully setup. It was quieter outside (naturally) and just felt nice to eat outdoors, but not be sitting right next to the street. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but I don't remember having any issues at all. Food: We started off with their Wagyu Pastrami Buns which is a concoction of house-made pastrami, sauerkraut and japanese-russian dressing. These were delightful! Rich, meaty, creamy and a lil' crunchy due to the sauerkraut. Well-executed. We then tried Ivan's Karaage which is crispy fried chicken, lemon, and choice of sauce: yuzu-kosho mayo, black garlic honey, shiso buttermilk, or yuzu-chili sauce. Of course we went with the yuzu-kosho and this too was delightful! Crispy, crunchy, tender chicken that was rich in flavor! For my ramen/bowl entree I decided on the Triple Pork Triple Garlic which is a less soup-y style of ramen made with a tonkotsu broth, shoyu-braised pork chashu in two ways. My goodness this was off the chain! Hot, tender pork, rich, salty broth and excellent balance with textures. Well-done. Value: It's New York City. I mean, you know the deal. Each of our appetizers were $14.00 and my ramen was $20.00. Not bad at all to be completely honest. That's extremely reasonable and worth every penny! In conclusion, I'd absolutely pull up here again and get these exact things! Of course I'd love to try some other menu items as well! Check this place out if you can get a seat!

Came here on a Sunday night and it was packed. Ordered the curry cauliflower, Japanese fried eggplant, Tsukemen, soy garlic fried chicken (not the karage). The tsukemen was 4.5/5 for me, broth was rich, flavorful, very smooth mouthfeel when dipped with noodles. The tsukemen also came with a ton of toppings; tonkatsu was crunchy and moist, the soft boiled egg could've used a bit more flavor though. Japanese eggplant was 4/5; crunchy and fried really well. It pairs well with the sesame sauce. The soy garlic fried chicken was 4/5 as well, crispy and moist on the inside. The sauce on the side was in-house made ranch, could taste the fresh dill. Would come back!

First time trying this ramen spot. The noodles itself were quite a nice texture, but while the broth was flavorful it was also very salty (the Shoyu Shrimp Wontonmen especially). To say the least, my favorite part of the bowl was probably the egg... Towards the end, it felt like we were being rushed out - there were still some empty tables and no queue. The staff came over every few minutes asking if they can take our bowls.

Is there currently a gluten free noodle option? Please only address noodles in answer, soy sauce and other things OK. thanks.

It's right on the menu, online in the Google search of the menu. There is a gluten-free option. Also here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60763-d5607510-r503178883-Ivan_Ramen_Slurp_Shop-New_York_City_New_York.html

Do they have gluten free ramen options?

I believe they one item with no egg and sauce but yes to soy sauce. But I wouldn't risk it I guess if it's severe issue.

Does this restaurant require proof of vaccination?

no restaurants in nyc req vaxx proof any longer and havent for some time

Would a stroller fit? Maybe in the patio? Or are there highchairs?

Yes, they would fit on the patio. I would not recommend in the restaurant as it is quite small/narrow.

This one is located in NYC Manhattan 36th street. It's not very noticeable but has large door with its name on it. Inside is small space with bar counter, table and seats and kitchen at the end with dim lighting with pop music. We made a reservation but looks was it wasn't too busy since it had just opened at 11:45am. We were quickly sat down and looked through the menu with scan code. They offer variety of Japanese and fusion dish like tebasaki chicken wings, buns, rice ball, and few noodle dish like hiyashi chuuka cold noodle, ramen, tsukemen, and mazemen. We ordered few appetizers like chashu rice ball, mushroom buns, and i got spicy tan tan ramen and my partner got the miso ginger ramen. Chashu rice ball came with chashu, sauce, rice wrapped with nori. It's more like a sushi roll than a rice ball but it was ok. The pork was a bit dry and was messy to eat. Although it has omikuji/fortune slip inside that you pull out which is a unexpected fun addition to the dish. I ended up getting daikichi which means great luck. Mushroom buns were fluffy, flavorful and tasty despite vegetarian option. The spicy tan ramen was spicy, creamy and savory. The ramen came with half egg, few slices of chashu, menma, ground pork with spicy miso which you mix together. The broth is combination of rich, spicy and creamy and pretty strong sesame flavor. Noodles are thicker and chewer than what i'm used to. Chashu was nice and tender. menma was ok not very flavorful. Overall a solid ramen but not particularly special. I honestly prefer ichiran better. Service was good and staffs were attentive Overall a good experience but it didn't stand out enough for me to come back. Cool place and maybe nice for dates or if you want to drink as well. Price is definitely on the higher side for ramen. I've had ramen in Japan and my standard is high but i can find similar type of restaurant that is cheaper closer to home in US.

For a restaurant, especially one serving customizable ramen dishes, with a allergy list post on the wall by the counter where I sat at B1, a little flexibility or empathy toward food allergies would go a long way. The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the overall dining experience uncomfortable. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and sadly this visit fell short. The smashed cucumber was good. Spicy dumpling was good. Ramen broth was light, not as rich or flavorful as others.
