After reading so many reviews on yelp and trip advisor about this place I thought I better hop on the band wagon and visit on Wednesday night aka Martini night. I was not disappointed! Carol, the owner, was quick to visit our table to check on us and like I always say, this little touch speaks volumes about customer service and her way to make you feel welcome. We were only there for drinks but thought we'd try their infamous Truffle Fries. Absolutely the most beautiful presentation of a simple order of fries turned into a mouth-watering-can't-get-enough! Irises Cafe was delightful. We had read the many favorable reviews and were hoping for a dinner that would be a highlight of our road trip. Irises did not disappoint. I should say that my only apprehension going in was that I was not sure how our 7-year-old son would be accommodated, as the foods described in the reviews were quite "gourmet." When we entered and the host offered a kids' menu to us, I was relieved. Our son could choose from an upscale macaroni and cheese (three-cheese sauce on penne), and other kid-friendly choices. He opted for grilled jumbo shrimp (also a kids' option) with french fries, which came with a choice of two sides, grilled asparagus, which he devoured, and an ice cream sundae. The house salads were very fresh; we had two different vinaigrette dressings and both were quite tasty. My Mediterranean pasta with fresh spinach, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and feta cheese was marvelous. My husband enjoyed moules et frites (mussels and fries) in buerre blanc (the chefs removed the "special" pineapple from the buerre blanc). We each ordered a wine sampler: three very generous 4-ounce glasses for $10.50 (a single glass of wine was $8). My only complaint is that sometimes our food and drink did not come quite when they should have. The wine samplers arrived at the *end* of the salad course, our son's main dish came well before mine and my husband's. One of my son's side dishes was forgotten and, come to think of it, our server nearly skipped our son (forgetting one person at a party of three?) when taking orders. We heard a couple at another table remark to their servers that it was "busy for a Monday night," so I would forgive the shortcomings of the service and visit again if Irises' Yelp ratings stay consistently stellar. read more

We haven't been here for years after a really bad experience. We were given a gift certificate so decided to try again. Won't be going back! The beet salad was beyond vinegary, light on the beets which was what I was looking for. Hubbie's Caesar salad was limp and tasteless. The Paneed Chicken was inedible. More breading than chicken fried to almost burnt. The fettuccine Alfredo served alongside was heavily seasoned with lemon, hardly any cheese taste. Hubbies Pork was tough. They comped my meal and dessert, so I'll give them credit for that. read more

Had a dinner here when visiting Plattsburgh. There was outside seating which was nice for the summer, but be careful of the mosquitoes. The food overall was good. They serve hot bread with olive oil/vinegar at the beginning which was welcomed on our table given we were starving. We ordered some appetizers and sandwiches/burgers. The food was cooked fresh and tasted good. It could use a little more flavoring and tended to be a little bit on the bland side (not bad though). The only complaint was that the service was extremely slow. The waitress would vanish for long periods of time, and the delay between courses was also a bit too much at times. read more

While on a business trip to Plattsburgh wandered in to Irises because the restaurant across the street had a long wait time. So glad that we wondered in! Ordered the margherita pizza; fresh gooey mozzarella with basil and cherry tomatoes. Crisply crust - great sauce! We shared the pizza along with the Fresh Beet Salad - yum! The basil oil and balsamic reduction dressing was a great pairing! Live music topped off the evening - hope to be back next time we are in the area! read more

We were looking for a decent restaurant after camp visiting day, and found this gem in downtown Plattsburgh. We had a special salad of watermelon, tomato, and feta which was outstanding and rivaled anything we've had at top restaurants in NYC or Napa. We also had the Baked Brie with a fruit chutney which is a staple of the menu and similarly outstanding. For the main course, we both had a special pasta with clams which was very good (although the portions were a little small). Dessert was a delicious apple and raspberry crisp a la mode. One of the best features of Irises is the wine list, with a great selection and some very reasonably priced wine (we had a $30 French Bordeaux which was great for the summer). We sat outside which, while facing the street, was very pleasant given how quaint the town is. All in all, while an expensive night out for Plattsburgh, the same meal in Manhattan would be at least 50% more. read more

Excellent spot for upscale dining in a casual environment Food is fresh and served by friendly staff that go above and beyond to help. Dined with a gluten free friend and the waitress kindly gave recommendations and the kitchen accommodated without any hassle. Menu has something for everyone from burgers to nightly specials. My favorite restaurant in Plattsburgh but a bit pricey for a retired person so only come for special occasions. Love the food, the martinis, the wine, the atmosphere and, for the most part, the service. Wait staff is pretty knowledgeable about the menu items and the wines. Love, love, love the beet salad! Have never been disappointed in my dining experience for lunch or dinner. Would come here every week if I could afford it. read more

As much as I would like to laud Irises the truth is, it's nothing special. I realize this is *the nicest* place the town of Plattsburgh has to offer, and so gave it an extra star with that in mind, however, my experience was none too pleasing when I visited. The food and menu were sub-par and unnecessarily complicated- (ofttimes a clean, simplistic approach to fine dining trumps pretentiousness... esp. if you're situated in a smaller town)- and the service wasn't that great. More disturbing, the owner/manager was rude, after later being confronted by an acquaintance, about making a third party privy to said friend's personal credit card information and purchases at the establishment. Not professional and not a good look for the restaurant when its patrons can't trust employees to keep that info confidential. Hopefully Plattsburgh will gain a place that's comparable and far more enjoyable to patronize. read more

We came over the weekend and had an amazing time! I had very tasty sangria, truffle fries and a local grass fed organic beef burger! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his gigantic shrimp with a scampi sauce and the extensive beer choices. We were a large party of 15 and had a great time! Our server was very attentive and it's really hard to find that level of service in the north country and outstanding meals for a reasonable price! Love irises! read more

Was not impressed. There was 4 in my party, we all ate the specials. The prime rib was over cooked and you could hardly cut it. We should of complained but I always hate sending food back. It was busy and loud and you couldn't hear yourself think. The waitress was ok but we had to bring our check to the front because she never came back. It pains me to write this post because i am a huge fan of this establishment and the food! And the service for that matter. I've been a good customer for Martini night as well as nice dinners out with friends. I come often for the Tuna appetizer. But this is the second time i have had a very rude experience with a waitress there, Marisha. I didn't write a post the first time, even after receiving horrible service from her. Ignoring our table for over 40 mins while she ate fries at the bar and played on her phone. We needed another round and our checks. It finally got to the point where i had to bring our dirty dishes to the bar and ask for our checks. I have been a server in this area for over 10 years and it bothers me that someone would treat their customers this way at such a great place. In addition to that i just had a lovely meal there with a very pleasant server (Victoria). In the middle of our meal Marisha approached our table in the ruddiest way possible snapped at me to move my chair in so she could get past... as she scuffed at me. My friend who i was with was shocked.... being the only other table in the restaurant. 100 different ways to say excuse me and she was extremely unpleasant and rude giving me a horrid look as i was trying to enjoy my meal. Was visiting from out of town, and so glad to have stumbled across Irises! The menu has a little bit of everything to please everyone (burgers, seafood, soups, salads, vegetarian/vegan options, flatbreads, wine/beer/craft cocktails), and everything our table ordered was delightful! My husband and I wanted to take his mother out to dinner. We were visiting from California. We went online and read about Irises. It was lovely, with a varied menu and an interesting wine list. You can choose a flight of red or white wines. I chose a small Caesar salad and the risotto. The salad was quite generous and tasty. The risotto was rich and delicious. When you are tired of Chains and want something a little nicer, try them. The food was really great, the filet special was great and the key lime martinis were some of the best I have had. The decor is a bit dated, but this is Plattsburgh. The dessert sampler was awesome and not too big, I shared it with my mom and had to stop myself from licking the caramel off the plate. Eating here since it opened. Consistently great food and service at half nyc prices. Try the sesame encrusted tuna, my favorite. Duck is my second choice because messy to cook and never get it crispy like irises. Wine selections are broad and fairly priced. read more

We were in town for the first time and turned to yelp for reviews. Our initial choice was closed. Fortunately, our second choice was Irises! The food was some of the best we have had, the wines were very good (we had the chardonnay & pinot noir flights), and the wait staff was a match for the food & wine - very pleasant, extremely helpful, and attentive! This place has a very nice atmosphere. The risotto balls were gross. Was not a fan! Believe it or not the middle of half of mine were still frozen. The shrimp scampi was quite delicious. The Rosemary oil was very tasty as well! read more
