Recently my Toyota Sienna minivan started acting up. Everything I googled about the symptoms told…read moreme that it was a transmission going bad and that at best I could hope for a rebuild that might only cost around $2,000. We had a trip across Snoqualmie Pass coming up in a week to visit family for Thanksgiving, and google assured me that a transmission in that condition, hauling 5 adults plus luggage up the Cascades, would surely break and leave us stranded. And with an expensive towing bill. I wondered if it was worth repairing it. It's a 2004 Sienna AWD XLE Limited with 205K miles. A quick check on Autotrader showed only one similar model in my area, with 274K miles, for $5,995. Expanding the search to 500 miles revealed one other, with similar miles as mine, for $5,495. At that point, a ~$2,000 transmission rebuild sounded much better than selling a project car for pocket change and buying one of those other Siennas. I looked for a nearby transmission shop with good reviews and landed on Renton Transmission. After a few hours they called and said my transmission was fine; the problem was a speed sensor telling it to shift at the wrong time. Replacement cost for that sensor, $338 part + labor. After picking it up, I drove around for a long test on the highway onramps and offramps, and sharp inclines, where I had most seen the symptoms. This time there were no symptoms. They also alerted me to the fact that a less common symptom I had described to them was a misfiring cylinder, and that this appeared to be just a wiring problem. He said that cylinder's misfires were recorded in the codes. l had just days prior had an oil change done at a highly regarded shop and they had not mentioned anything about that, which suggests that they did not bother to check codes. I'm very glad to know about the misfiring cylinder; I'll have it looked at soon. I'm so glad this turned out to be so much less expensive than I had feared. Thanks, Renton Transmission! Highly recommended!

He put a rebuilt Jasper differential in and each one lasted less than 1000 miles. Had all future work done at a different highly regarded transmission shop. Our family nearly got stranded several times because of Jasper failures but were able to limp back home! Unfortunately, the other transmission shop owner and I had to both fight with Jasper to get refunded after the 3rd Jasper replacement also failed. Had a new one built and installed correctly by the new transmission shop for a small fraction of the cost Renton Transmission charged me. This was after several months off and on without a vehicle and getting screwed in the first place!!!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE Allen is very rude and lacks…read morecustomer service and he is the shop manager. I dropped my car off at 8:30 AM as the owner Eric requested so he could look at. I dropped my car off with the understanding from Eric that my car would be looked at and would have an answer by noon. No one called at noon so I called them they hadn't even worked on my car yet. Long story short when I went to the shop the following day they still hadn't even looked at my car. After having a vehicle for 24 hours and still no answer as to what needs to be done I asked if I could have my car back and to speak with the manager. I also stated to Allen that I would leave my vehicle as long as he could assure me that my car would be looked at today. Allen laughed and said that's me (the manager) and we are taking your car out. He refused to give me a business card at first then I asked who he reports to and he responded very smugly and said Eric. I then asked for Eric's information he still refused to provide a business card found some paper and just wrote his name and Eric's name and that's it. No contact information at all was given. As I got into my vehicle Allen and another mechanic came outside to stand there and watch me as they smugly smiling and shook their heads. As a woman this establishment is not helpful, respectful, timely, considerate, understanding and they are very rude!!!

This is the kind of unethical shady shop experience you fear when taking your car in for repairs…read more I brought my vehicle in to have my transmission looked at. It was slipping when downshifting and I could not take it on the highway anymore. After 3 days in their shop and a $500 inspection fee I received a printout saying my radiator cap and coolant hoses were in critical condition and needed immediate replacement. As well as every fluid and other minor easy to perform repairs. When I arrived back at the shop and explained my concerns with the mechanics findings the clerk became quite confrontational. Not wanting to engage in the clerks baiting, I spoke with the mechanic directly and asked him several questions about his findings. When I asked about why the radiator cap and hoses were in immediate need of repairs/replacement specifically asking if there was signs of damage, fraying, leaks or internal damage/flaking of the hose. He told me that there was no damage or leaks either internally or externally but that the hoses and cap appeared old. I then asked about the transmission, expressing that it was the whole reason I brought the vehicle in for inspections in the first place. He simply informed me that he did not inspect the transmission. But that everything seemed to be in working order on his "road test". The clerk then seemed surprised that I elected not to have any of the repairs performed and requested to settle the bill with no further repairs. I didn't get as far as the Safeway, one stoplight away, and the transmissions planetary gears grinding and slipping could still be heard and felt. I will not be returning. SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE, DO NOT USE THIS SHOP.
