The staff was friendly and welcoming. My wife and I were each comped $ 10 off our meals, which was a huge positive. I included a $20.00 tip for the cashier for taking my order. The rest of our experience at this cafe was negative. After placing a "to go" order of a salmon dinner combo for my wife and a Chinese chicken salad for myself, our ordeal began. We waited and waited and waited some more for our order to be handed to us, finally. While we patiently waited for our order, I inquired about it three times, only to be told it would be just a few more minutes. While this is going on, friends of ours were reviewing their food bill they had just paid in full and discovered that they had been charged for an additional order they had not ordered. While disputing this fact with a cashier, she had a real challenge reversing the charge to my friend's credit card. This young cashier had to ask the manager of the next-door restaurant to come and help. For the next thirty-seven minutes, they tried and tried to rectify this problem but were unable to do so. The cashier finally offered to reimburse my friend in cash, which he accepted. Back to my order, we are now up to 51 minutes of waiting when I finally advised the young male employee, "If they have not started my order, please cancel, as I am truly tired of waiting so long." The employee assured me it would take 10 minutes or less. Six minutes later, the young employee handed me my order. We returned to our hotel lobby seating area next door to sit and dine with our friends. One hour later, while in our own hotel room, I felt my blood pressure through the roof!! This has not happened to me in YEARS!! There must have been an ingredient or two in my salad that I missed, causing my BP to spike big time the way it did. Not the cafe's fault, but when I looked over the menu and the ingredients in my salad, I couldn't understand what I had missed. My BP remained high for the next few hours even after I took my BP medication. At the same time, my wife was in the bathroom, sick to her stomach from her salmon dinner. She remained this way for the next four hours. Needless to say, we did not sleep that night because of our dinner at this cafe. UPDATE: my food was not what I ordered and does not look even remotely worth the price I paid. The nachos are a waste of a to go box, to be honest. The chips are stale, the cheese is cold. The menu mentioned the nachos would be topped with pico de gallo, green onions, guac, sour cream and salsa. The tablespoon of guac looks a few days old, the "pico" is diced onion and tomato and the green onions are nowhere to be found. Complete waste of $12 I came in to order a take out order, I was seated at the counter but the minute I said I wanted to order take out the host Nevaeh told me I couldn't sit at the counter to order my food. When I asked that I couldn't sit here, at the empty counter to place and wait on my Togo order she said she guessed I could. Then she had to come back to double check on what I wanted, then made me pay the moment the order was placed. I haven't experienced this bad of service in a long time. I'm sitting here feeling so awkward and like it's the worst thing in the world to ask to be seated at an empty counter while I wait for my order. This first time I came here Jayda was so sweet and a kind host. The server a male was also very friendly offering us a drink while wait on our Togo order. The food was amazing, the steak was cooked to perfection. The second night we went, was a different experience. I'm not from anywhere near here so I really wanted to enjoy another dish of theirs and my aunt was with me. There was an older lady with red pink hair working. My aunt asked for another menu and the lady gave a side eye handing her the menu. She walks off and doesn't say anything to us. The Iron Rail Cafe is a reasonably priced diner inside of Railroad Pass. Boyfriend and I signed up for a players card and they gave us each a $10 food voucher to use. I went with the burger and fries ($8.95!) and he went with the deluxe nachos with steak ($13.50). The steak was more like thin shaved steak which I liked better than big chunks of meat. The nachos were huge and loaded as was the burger. Everything was tasty and shareable. Best of all with our food vouchers it was almost free. The menu is vast. They serve breakfast all day as well as prime rib dinner after 4 PM. We'll be back the next time our travels take us to Boulder City. read more

Don't let this place derail your visit. Iron Rail Cafe is the 24/7 restaurant at Railroad Pass Casino in Henderson. We had just signed up for a player's card at the casino and received some comps to use, so we decided not to waste them. This was the easiest option as the steakhouse wasn't quite open yet (and was too pricey for our budget) and a possible other affiliated restaurant would have required a walk outside in the heat. I appreciated the host saying that the fine print of dine-in only could be worked around by just sitting down and getting a to-go box, but I didn't realize how long the wait would be. The server was incredibly slow to get to us for some reason, and it's not like the place was packed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The floorboards also had no vibration dampening and I kept feeling when he would walk by behind me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not a pleasant experience overall. I did enjoy my choice of the side of fries included with my entree. They were lightly crispy and nicely soft inside, and they weren't overly salted. Give me a huge portion of these and I'm a happy camper. And yes, the comps did get applied, so I was pleased with that. But I had the Prime Rib Dip ($11.99) sandwich after getting home (with a stretch in the fridge and some reheating in the meantime), and it was not good. The bread had this stale, offputting flavor that reminded me of some awful fast food fries I had earlier this summer, so perhaps they used expired oil of some sort on it. The meat was actually tender and just fine on its own (as I discarded the bread halfway through), while the broth was nothing to write home about. If I'd been on a keto diet, perhaps I wouldn't have been so disappointed. Maybe they have some other foods worth trying, but it felt like I was blindly groping around and found the third rail. Maybe the worst sandwich I've ever had in my life! Nothing on the menu struck my fancy so I settled on the Reuben and chose coleslaw as the side. The coleslaw had no flavor whatsoever; none, zip, nada, zilch. It didn't taste like a mayo-based slaw nor did it taste like a vinegar-based slaw because it didn't taste like anything at all. One bite and done. This was the soggiest Reuben ever. They put the sauerkraut at the bottom which of course made the bottom piece of bread soggy. How about making it the top layer of the sandwich, then gently lay the top slice of bread on top of it? That would make it much less soggy. The sliced cheese had actually soured. Way too much dressing which should have been Russian but was ... well, I don't know what it was. It wasn't good but beyond that, I have no idea what it was. I removed the contents of half of the sandwich and ate just the sauerkraut and corned beef with a knife and fork. The meat was also flavorless and it was tough to cut with a table (vs steak) knife. Hubby asked that his French Fries be crispy and they were in fact crispy. The best part of the two meals, by far. He ordered a Patty Melt and didn't finish half of it. The meat was dry -- which is always a risk when you order ground beef to be well done. But the grilled onions should have compensated for the dryness of the well done ground beef. They didn't. Some of the onions had been sauteed but some of them were way undercooked which was not good. Rachel asked if we'd like "to go" boxes and I said, "Oh God no." She had to see (if she bothered to look) that we both had left more food on our plates than we had eaten yet she didn't ask if there was a problem. And that's why Rachel works at the Iron Rail Cafe. Tyler, our regular waitress, and the entire crew at Iron Rail Cafe were great! My mom and I spent a week staying at Railroad Pass and this was our go to evening spot. Our host and hostess were always polite, their manager is the SWEETEST and said remembered us each time we stopped in. Most importantly, they have an all day breakfast menu with corned beef hash and it was delicious. At the end of each meal, they brought to go cups four our iced tea as well. The Iron Rail Cafe is Back and Remodeled! The manager, Amber, revamped the menu, bringing back old favorites. And, if you can believe it, some of the prices went Down! I visit from California, and always make it a point to have the Prime rib, which is the BEST Prime Rib I have had in Las Vegas. Even over the Strip! Another find is the $8.99 half-pound Burger basket which includes fries and a drink. The burger is fresh, not frozen. Crystal was my waitress and she did a fantastic job. The cafe is located next to the steakhouse inside of the old Railroad Pass Casino in Henderson, which is a decent stop heading back into Las Vegas from the Hoover Dam area. I stopped in here due to the convenience + other restaurants closed at the time. Usually on the weekends, there is a waiting time for entry. You gotta get a buzzer until you are called. Not really IHOP or Denny's quality (more like a midgrade diner), but it suited its purpose. Breakfast of pancakes with greasy-burned hash browns was "meh", yet the omelette made up for it. Took about 15-17 minutes for the server to bring it to the table. Ran me about $27 after tip, along with the grapefruit juice. Probably took another 10 minutes to wait for the check within a 1/3 full restaurant on a Sunday. Sheesh! Restaurant decor just screams 1980s old as dirt, but it's ok. The Russian hostess in the front is nice at times- just be cool. Underneath the exterior is a very nice woman overall who works hard. Stopped here while we were charging our car. It's inside a casino right outside of Vegas. We were seated right away. She started walking away without asking if she could get us started with a drink while I waited for him to get inside. I called out to her and said I'd like a drink while I waited. She looked surprised that I actually wanted a drink. I ordered the eggs your way (think that's what it was called) it comes with 2 eggs you're way, either bacon, sausage or corned beef hash and a side of toast. I opted for the corned beef hash, she did tell me it was canned (after I asked) I said that was ok even though I prefer fresh. They cooked it on the griddle so it has a nice crunchy outside. My eggs were cooked right, hash browns were crispy, there was quite a lot of corned beef hash looked like it was almost a whole can. Plenty of butter on the toast which was nice, most places we go to we're lucky to just get a tiny dab of butter in the center. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. He said they were ok. It didn't look to me like it was sausage gravy, he said he didn't know, so my guess was it's not. Minus one star for not being offered drinks at the beginning. read more

This restaurant is located inside Railroad Pass Casino $ Hotel. Nothing fancy, very simple/plain keeping with the age and era of the hotel. Staff is very friendly and service is fast. My dinner came with a salad. The veggies were fresh and very crisp. Dressing came on the side. My only complaint, I asked for medium well done steak, mine was "still mooing" when served. Rather than send it back, I took it home and finished cooking it with some seasoning. On the positive, I choose for a loaded baked potato to go with my steak, it was huge. The butter, sour cream and bacon came on the side without me asking. The veggie was sweet corn. The meal was served piping hot. The Iron Rail Cafe proved to be a fantastic place for a great meal while staying in Boulder City. The Iron Rail Cafe resided inside the Rail Road Pass casino between Boulder and Henderson. They offer everything you would expect from a cafe and more. Their menu has a large variety ranging from a simple breakfast to a multi-course steak dinner and everything I tried was flavorful and plentiful. I am very fond of their Hot Turkey sandwich, a pile of turkey on top of toast slathered with plenty of tasty rich gravy accompanied by a huge helping of homemade mashed potatoes, I couldn't ask for anything more. However, considering The Rail is inside a casino there is a good chance you can get your meal for little or nothing, as I did, if you are playing at the casino, BONUS. I highly recommend The Rail Cafe, great food, great service, great portions and reasonable prices (with or without discounts), they have it all. read more
