Food safety fail. Went in this past Sunday for an early dinner and noticed they had a steak salad served with Romaine on the menu. I asked the waitress what they were substituting for the Romaine due to the CDC blanket recall on Romaine and she had no idea what I was talking about. The waitress came back shortly and said she spoke with the manager and that she said the recall was not in Maryland. Baffled by the response I told her I would not be having salad and instead ordered the Patty Melt. Service was good, food was just OK. I doubt I will return. read more

The Iron Rooster is one of my favorite Annapolis stops. Don't be put off by the hordes of people standing outside (and there always are). This place is worth the wait. Even at it's busiest, we've never waited more than 30-45 minutes for a table. The food is incredible. The staff is incredible. The atmosphere is really fun and vibrant. And I'm super glad to see they're starting the process to expand next door. If you are a morning person, go early and enjoy your coffee and drink in relative quiet and don't feel rushed to hurry out and let someone else celebrate and savor this great spot. I think my favorite drink is The Morning Glory with a vodka, elderflower, & cucumber that is refreshing and delicious. concoction that was refreshing and delicious. I can't wait to try other speciality drinks. I don't know if I like the Shrimp and Grits or the Chicken and Waffles better. They are both a foodies dream! The pop tart flavor of the day is another BIG dry. Flakey pastry and yummy insides covered in whipped cream. Oh my.... Iron Rooster is a fantastic option for BBLD (Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch and Dinner). If you are not hungry you should consider not showing up as the portions of their creative menu are HUGE and served fresh / made to order. Lunch options are limited, but breakfast is served all day so that expands those choices. Don't think this means not to go for lunch as it is fantastic. Dinner is exceptional as well. Their scallops and meatloaf (don't judge) are beyond expectation and worth eating. Don't forget to start your meal off with one of their Pop-Tarts as they are awesome! Had Shrimp and Grits. I'm from South Carolina and this was probably the best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the grits were cooked perfect. Just wow! This was our honeymoon breakfast and the food was the only thing close to as banging as we were ;) The service was good, but the food was the shining light (as it should be)! I'm regretfully giving my experience at the Iron Rooster a 2 stars because of what happened after I got home from eating dinner there last night. I went with a friend who's been there for breakfast before, but this is my first time. We were greeted and seated and our waiter, Ryan was great. He was informative and polite. I had the BLT&E sandwich with mac and cheese. My friend ordered the beef melt? I think with fries. We did not order any drinks, just water and no desserts or apps. The food arrived and I really enjoyed my sandwich...mac and cheese...not so much. It was cheesy, but bland...I had to add salt for taste. Afterwards, we were so full from our meals we walked around the area for about 30min, did not eat anything else after that. My stomach was hurting by the time I got home and I'm still having stomach issues the next morning. My friend said the same thing. Since we had the sandwiches...maybe it was something from the grill?? Let me be clear, everything was fine but suffering the aftermath after eating there and not having eaten anything else since...really put a damper in my rating. read more

I'm usually not too impressed by places at brunch but wow at this place. We showed up on a Saturday about five after 11, and was told it'd be 15 minutes. At almost exactly fifteen minutes later, we were seated. We were slightly in a hurry so we had looked at the menu and knew what we wanted. We have our waiter our appetizer, drink, and meal orders. For appetizers we had ordered the homemade pop-tart and sausage gravy and biscuits. They came out in less than five minutes. We were shocked! Yo boot--they were DELICIOUS. Unlike other sausage gravy and biscuits -- they definitely have their own style and it is so good. I ordered the shrimp and grits and they were just okay. A little on the expensive side for 5 pieces not very well spiced shrimp. But it was fine. They weren't dry and clumpy which is the issue most inexperienced places make! And the poached eggs were Perfect. Great touch! Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals--we couldn't get over how quickly everything came out. Granted, my meal did come Out about 5-7 minutes after everyone else's came out. Was never exactly told why or what happened. Will definitely go back. Curious to try their dinner menu! Everything you want out of a fancy pop tart and $6 isn't bad. I also ordered the crab cakes Benny. I am an eggs Benedict aficionado and can say I've eaten eggs Benedict at more places than any reasonable person could count. And I thought this was a world-class eggs benedict. I won't argue that it's not a difficult dish, but they added small touches of spice (old bay for the win), tasty thick cut tomatoes, and impressively stuffed lump crab cakes to make this the kind of eggs benedict you read about. The staff was extremely friendly. For a Saturday morning, my wife and I waited for about 10 minutes, while groups of 6+ were being told 60-75 minutes. My French toast was good and the Bourbon male butter was excellent. The waffles were very dense and we could only finish about 40% of it. A side of bacon was huge (5-6 pieces). Made a reservation on opentable for brunch today at 11 AM. The place was mobbed so I went straight to the hostess stand to be seated. I explained that I had a reservation for four people for 11. In a condescending tone, she indicated that Iron Rooster doesn't take reservations on Sunday and that the reservation I made (and which opentable allowed me to make) was pushed to 11 on the next weekday. She said check your email, and after I did i left with the rest of my party and will never be back. Nowhere on opentable does it state that it does not take reservations on weekends and it should not automatically default to the next business day. There are better options for brunch in Annapolis, namely Miss Shirley's. read more

Came on Father's Day to a packed house. The wait was about 45 min but def worth it. My server Andy was super nice gave great recommendations and was generally a pleasure to be around. Indeed up getting the sausage gravy and biscuits with home fries. DELISH!!! The biscuits are square and griddle.fried so it has a nice crunch to it. The gravy has large chunks of sausage, which I love and tasted very good. Home fries were thinnly.aliced and fried, perfect complement to the biscuits and gravy. Must go! Best food quality and service! My best friend, daughter and I came in today for the first time. Our wait would have been one hour but we found seats at the bar. We sat right away and had the best service with great recommendations. The chili omelette is AMAZING and the grits melt in your mouth. My 8yo daughter loved her veggie burger and my best friend loved her turkey burger. The best part is we were served by Kyle himself the awesome restaurant owner!! All staff from greeter, hostest, to waiters were friendly and prompt. I even had a conversation with one of the waiters about his dog Mr. Purple! Great people, great place, great food. I order bacon every time and am in heaven!!! They give you a plentiful portion, and it's cooked and seasoned to perfection! The chicken and waffles are by far the BEST I've had in Maryland. Their French Toast is to die for. The challah bread and cinnamon butter totally makes it. I got it with bananas yesterday and I highly recommend it! I've also tried the breakfast burritos and they're a whole new level of amazing. They're huge and packed full of deliciousness. I've also had the pancakes which I typically don't order at restaurants because often they're so bland. Again, not at Iron Rooster! They were cooked perfectly and were so fluffy and delicious!
