Stopped at the adjacent gas station for a fill up while on a road trip. Since it was around lunch time, we decided that we might as well have a bite to eat here. Typical truck stop restaurant with dated interior, comfort food offerings, breakfast all day, relatively cheap prices and average service. Exactly what we came here for. My friend had the chicken with green beans and a roll and she was very happy with it. I opted for the breakfast with bacon, eggs and tater tots and it was good. Ordered Grilled Cajun chicken with mashed potatoes and a salad, salad was amazing, but the chicken was still red in some spots and pink in the rest but dried out on the outside. My experience with cooking tells me heat was too high, no big deal send it back for them to bring the exact same already was dried out chicken back to me this time cooked through but in rock form from the dried hardness... did not even eat it.. but still had to pay for that entire meal when all I ate was the salad.... This has got to be one of the better "Iron Skillets" out there. Went for dinner and had the One Pound Texas Steer Chopped Steak. It was huge, had tons of flavor and came with a perfectly made Baked Potato. It was so much food, I took half back to truck. My server was super nice and very attentive. I have no complaints. They no longer have a buffet. Food was pricey for not being very good at all. The meatloaf was dried out and crispy. Would NEVER eat here again. It's a truckers' restaurant. Every year, we meet the In Laws' at this restaurant for a Christmas lunch. There are two options for food: the buffet or order off the menu. We usually get the buffet. The wait staff is attentive, and will refill your coffee or beverages fast. The food is pretty standard home-style food. On this day, it was barbecue pork, ham and beef. All were good without being too spicy and the vegetables were cooked but not overcooked. We were seated at a table and we dined and talked for over 2 hours. The wait staff was not in any rush to get us out of there, and I do appreciate that. I got up a few times to walk around the quickie mart attached to the restaurant and to use the restrooms. The restrooms were well-lit, clean and well stocked. Total for 4 buffet plus drinks came to less than $70. read more

Typical truck stop restaurant. Not going to be the best thing you've ever had, but it's also not terrible. Staff was friendly. Hash browns we're not good. Eggs and bacon were fine. I can stay it was a nice place to restaurant looked very clean, and the staff very nice. But it just took so long to get my food. And the customer beside never got a menu to order his food. Seat there for about 30 mins and she still have never come to him. It's taking my food about 40 mins to cook I guest they had to go kill the cow and all I order was a double cheeseburger. Then when my order came up she brought my food to my on a plate when I clearly told her it was for to go. My friends and I spent a weekend out in Portage to go skiing at Cascade. While we were there we decided to check out the local bars, and before we knew it - it was 2:30am and we needed drunk food. The lovely bartender at the Blarney Stone told us that Iron Skillet serves food 24 hours a day. Perfect. The food was your standard diner fare. The menu has all the basic and they serve the entire menu all day long. We all got egg dishes of some sort. It wasn't anything fancy, but it certainly hit the spot. I must say that the waitress was SO NICE. We were a group of 8 pretty drunk people but she dealt with us very well. She even let me order an egg dish that wasn't really on the menu (I just wanted scrambled eggs with cheddar and a side of hash browns. Absolutely average. I'm in Portage a lot, and there are some very limited options for late night dining in this town. You can do Taco Bell or McDonalds, basically. If you're lucky, you're getting into the Tamarack before they turn the lights off, but that's not a given. If you're not feeling fast food and it's late, the truck stop is always an option. For some reason when I went to school in Portage this place was always a popular haunt of the redneck kids, so I never really went there until recently. The food is about on par with your typical late night diner. It's about a half-step up from doing to a Denny's or an IHOP. I'd say more about the food, but I'm struggling to think of anything interesting to say. It was totally unremarkable in either direction. The buffet is alright if you're coming in early enough. But if you're there early enough for that there are better options in Portage, aren't there? read more

This restaurant is located inside a truck stop at the intersection of I-90 and I-39. It's next to Days Inn and across the road from Comfort Suites. I came here only because I was too tired to drive 5 miles into town after a long day on the Interstate. The front section of the restaurant is a counter space reserved for truckers. The dining room in the back section is comfortable and pleasant. There's a hot buffet, but it didn't look great to me. A trip to the soup and salad bar is included with most menu entrées. Food is fare value for the price paid. Service is execclent at this location and has been for some time now. Don't chance it! 4 of us met on the way home from the Dells. We stood in the entrance for several minutes with no one greeting us or seating us. Finally a server said "you can go on down to the dinning room". We walked past people eating to the other end where there was a sign that said dining room (??). We stood there awkwardly between tables of people eating for about 5 minutes before a server told us we could seat ourselves wherever there was not a sign on the table. (This is June 23rd 2021 I was fully vaccinated over a month ago, few people wear masks anymore, I think we understand how seating has worked for the past year). We found an open table and sat with no greeting or even menus for a long time; probably 15 minutes. I had a scanner app on my phone so we shared it so we could order our food right away whenever our server arrived. Eventually the server in the area told us it would be 25 MORE minutes to order because they didn't have anyone in the back. We got up and left. The servers have always been friendly and efficient in the past and I always thought the food was pretty good but I think they are going out of business. I think the manager walked off the job and some other workers must have followed. If you're on a road trip don't chance it. You'll waste 40 minutes and can't even get a cup of coffee. read more

Food is OK. Just very disappointed that I was charged about $2 more than receipt indicated. I left cash on table which was more than extra charged but when I checked my credit card balance I saw a higher amount than on receipt. I personally scratched through the tip column and put $9.48 & got charged $11.43. I will only pay with cash when I eat there again in the future. read more

This was the best food I have had in forever. While staying at the Comfort Inn and suites, the lady at the front desk said they had really good food. We went there the first night we got in town and once again before leaving. Good customer service, great food, clean and cute decor. Definitely recommend the french toast sandwich. We went here because we were told the food was excellent. However, to start with the service was absolutely terrible. The waitresses were to busy being lazy in the back to be bothered. Two people ordered shakes, now one came & looked like chocolate milk the other was so thick u needed a spoon. They told us they don't own a blender lol. How can u serve shakes if u don't have a blender?!One of sodas didn't have ice which we didn't ask for. It's took over 30 mins to receive our meal which is ridiculous because 90% of the people order the buffet. I ordered a ham & cheese omelet that was $8.69! It had zero cheese on it & when I told the manager she said oh ya it does & pointed to a tiny spot on the egg. She took it back & just dumped cold shredded cheese on it. Very pleasant waitress and tasty breakfast food. On our way to visit the grandkids we stopped for breakfast-after traveling all night. We were tired and grumpy, but the waitress and the comfort food changed that quickly. I want to stop again on the way home. Very good truck stop/comfort food.
