We met a couple friends here on a Friday at 5 pm. The outside patio seating was terrific. There were sunshades to keep us out of the direct sun. The inside seemed a little dark for my taste. I ordered the steak sandwich and my wife had the veggie wrap. My sandwich was perfect. Medium rare and a lot of arugula. My wife wasn't very happy with the taste of her wrap. Her tots tasted good. The biggest problem was the wait time. Our four meals took about 45 minutes to get to us from the time we ordered. Our waitress didn't keep us apprised of the status. Other tables, came in after us, were being served. When we asked, she said the pasta was taking a while (one of our friend's meals). She didn't ask if I needed a refill on my lemonade until she was removing my plate. It was good conversation with the friends, so that helped with the delay. We will probably try it again. read more

I've been a regular at South Hill Grill for years, which makes this even more disappointing to write. I went back for the first time in about four months and had one of the worst dining experiences I can remember. I won't be returning. It was a Sunday afternoon. There were people in the restaurant, but it wasn't busy by any stretch. I had actually recommended it as a place to meet friends, and now I'm honestly embarrassed that I did. Service was terrible from the start. I ordered a glass of red wine and it took 35 minutes to arrive. I drank it, but didn't even consider ordering a second because I knew I'd be ready to leave before it showed up. Waiting 35 minutes for a glass of wine is just ridiculous. Our appetizers came out after an hour and were ice cold. Not slightly cool. Cold. We didn't feel comfortable eating them, but couldn't even send them back because our server never came by to check on us. Our entrees showed up another 30 minutes later and everything was cold or room temp. How do you mess up tater tots? Again, no check-ins from the server until we were clearly done and asking for the bill. To top it off, when we paid, the server returned the wrong credit cards to the table and had charged each of us incorrectly with someone else's bill. Listen, mistakes happen. You can mess up appetizers, food, or even service on a bad day. But I draw the line at waiting 35 minutes for a glass of wine and being completely ignored the entire time. I will not be coming back, and I definitely won't be recommending this place again. read more

Let me start by saying we have been long time patrons of South Hill Grill....since they assumed the space of the former Maggie's. We've loved going to both locations for years, especially for sushi. Sadly, we can no longer justify our patronage. The location on Regal and 57th is terribly understaffed. But, the real issue for us is how dirty the common areas are. The light fixtures and ceilings in the restroom are CAKED with dust and dirt. This is not a new issue. I dare say, this is what they inherited from the previous owners a few years ago and it's never been addressed. When approaching the restrooms, you see cleaning equipment and other items piled in the hallway, and the odor....well, it reminded me of the smell in the Paris subway (if you know, you know!!). Tables, chairs, boothes, floors and condiments could use a wipe down. If this is how owners allow the common areas to look to the public..... we're almost afraid to wonder what the kitchen looks like. Apologies for being harsh. We hope it'll get cleaned up, we'd love to return. We're shocked that others have noted this in reviews and nothing has been done. read more

Came here to treat my mom again for Mother's Day. Thankfully I didn't hear the non stop high pitched ring the entire time. Our marinated steak bits were mouth watering amazing! When our main meal was ordered "lemon pepper chicken with veggies and a white wine rissoto or loaded mashed potatoes (odd that they didn't ask if I wanted the risotto or loaded mashed potatoes) I stated that BOTH needed to be without bacon due to allergy & religious issues. One came with bacon so I couldn't touch it period. We came here mid-morning on a Sunday and it wasn't crazy busy. We were seated right away at a tall table, which was fine with us. The staff were friendly and the place was kept clean throughout our visit. Pricing isn't terrible in today's market either. The pancakes were excellent and eggs cooked to order. The chicken fried steak was also very good. I asked for my potatoes to be extra crispy and they were done exactly right. It is pretty loud inside so if you're coming with someone that has a hard time hearing, that could be an issue. Overall, a very nice breakfast. read more

First of all let me start by saying that this place USED to be good. We went in on Saturday we were rudely greeted and told to find a seat which we did. We sat there for an extended amount of time before our waitress came over to bring our menus and even longer for her to take out order. I order the same dish every time I am there and it is always good, the chicken Cesar salad. I had a child with me so when the waitress drops off the food I was working to get the child all set up. She comes over literally two minutes later and asks how the food is I had not tried it yet and she never came back. I looked at my cesar salad and the dressing was pink and was so spicy from excessive pepper I could not eat any of it. The spinach dip was horrible and the sandwich we ordered was tasteless. I looked for the waitress for our entire meal and was unable to find her she comes over with the check and I advised her that I did not eat any of my food because it was not eatable and she said "well it is too late now should have told us sooner" She advised my sister a lot of people think the Cesar is too spicy now and that I should order something different next time. We paid 100 dollars for lunch of food we did not even finish. If I could give them a negative star review I would in a heart beat. I will NEVER go back again. read more

It wasn't what I expected... I was looking for a healthy option and ordered the hummus with vegetables. The cukes and bell pepper were fresh but the carrots! They appeared to have been cut days earlier and were all dried out, neatly hidden under the hummus bowl. It was disappointing because I love carrots, and it's not that hard to keep them so they look appetizing. The hummus looked exactly like super chunky peanut butter. And the pita bread was fried, the chips were too thick and hard, very difficult to enjoy. (The menu DID say they'd be fried, so that one is on me.) I lost my appetite. To be fair, one of my seat mates had the chicken pot pie and declared it "good." The other ordered the pork chop and loved it. Maybe next time I'll get the pork chop :-( Three stars. read more

My friend, who recently moved to South Hill, had not been to SHG but suggested SHG after hearing good things. We sat at C5 with a wonderful server, Sasha, taking care of us. First, about Sasha. She was outstanding! Friendly, smiling, knowledgeable on your menu and checked in frequently, but not too often. She's a gem! Food, we shared a variety of sushi and shared you halibut special as our main. Wonderfully done. And the asparagus...WOW, if you are willing to share how you prep that I would be privileged. It was truly the best asparagus I have had. I will certainly be back and have already recommended SHG to a friend that gets to Spokane three or four times a year as a "must-go". This is one of those places, I didn't think I'd like, but I did. A friend suggested we meet there. It was noisy and crowded and we had to wait to get a table. But we soon found out why it was so crowded. The food is excellent and the menu offers some good old fashioned American dishes that you often don't find much anymore. First time we went they were in their old location. Second time was in their current one. Both times I had the Chicken Pot Pie and I absolutely loved it. The place has a fun vibe, but I would not recommend it for quiet conversation, but for great food in a fun atmosphere, it is great. We will go back. read more

I had the Green Bay skillet (3 eggs, scrambled with mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, green bell peppers and onions) served with a side of toast. Really fulfilling entree! Has some potatoes at the bottom too. Delicious. Would recommend! Only thing I wish was that they had fresh squeezed juice. My friend and I finally gave South Hill Grill a try. We tried to go here a few months ago, but it's a small place and they had someone playing live (loud) music right by the tables. We didn't want to have to yell to talk to each other, so we went elsewhere. Tonight, they had the big garage door open to their patio, with quite a few people enjoying the warm (finally) summer weather. No live music and since it was still 90 degrees outside, we opted to stay inside. We started off with a drink they had mentioned on the table. It's screamed summer andI am a sucker for anything made with St. Germain. It was called "Sparkling Blossom" which consisted of Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka, muddled limes, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, lemonade, a splash of raspberry purée, a splash of cranberry juice, and topped with sparkling wine. It was refreshing, definitely made us think of summer. For entrees, I chose Chicken Cordon Bleu with a side salad and Jenna chose their Rockwood ribeye, also with the side salad. The side salad was a spring mix of greens with thinly sliced red onion on top. Chopped cucumber and sliced grape tomatoes on the side. Their ranch was really good too. Their Chicken Cordon Bleu was interesting. It was a chicken breast, ham, and Swiss (as you would expect), then rolled up and cooked in a puff pastry, sliced with a dill honey mustard drizzle on top. It was quite good. It also came with loaded mashed potatoes, and perfect tiny asparagus (I absolutely love when the asparagus spears are very thin, and these were). Now for the ribeye. Jenna ordered medium rare. It was more medium well. It was still tender, but very salty. Along with her steak she also had the loaded mashed potatoes and her vegetable was garlicky, buttery green beans. They were good, but also on the salty side. They had a sign that said "No Sushi On Tuesdays." The last time we tried to come here (it was a Wednesday) and they also had a sign up that said "No Sushi Tonight." Don't know what days they actually have sushi. They do need to update the menu on their Facebook page. It's a couple years old, prices are different, and there are more options for cooked entrées on their current menu. read more

No. --- 5 minutes later. --- Can I get a plain burger and onion rings? We don't have any onion rings. I thought I remember onion rings.? Never. What about the last location? This is our only location. OK, I'll take a plain burger and fries. Our plain burger is the "29th Avenue." But you are in 57th? 29th is our old location. Did they have onion rings? Not that I know of. --- 27 minutes later, no new customers and half a dozen seated. --- This burger has bacon on it. Yes, that's the 29th Ave. I wanted a regular burger. That is our regular burger I meant without stuff like bacon. Also, this has cheese looking stuff. It comes with cheddar. Sure doesn't look like cheddar. I guess I can get my Lactaid. --- It was not cheddar unless cheddar now comes in little wrapped squares. ---- I place my empty plate on the edge. I tried to get the attention of strolling employees, who were serving no new customers. --- 5 minutes and no new customers later, I walk to the waitress station. A few minutes later, the waitress walks up to me and I gave her my credit card. I said "I am finished eating." She said nothing. --- She came back with a printed bill. There was a pen. It didn't work. I said, "pen does not work." She said "try again." I tried several times in front of her, but it was a dead pen. I've been there for quite some time just trying to pay. I said "I will just tip in cash." That's fine. I only have a couple bucks cash, so she will barely get her 15%. That's OK. In retrospect, it was OK. I hate to give somebody a scanty tip when I can afford more. It was not her fault. It was the unseen manager, and whoever trained the staff. And, if my suspicion is correct, the employee on the patio, hoarding the last onion rings. read more

The hostess was polite and so was the gentleman that brought us our food. That is all the positive remarks I can say about this place. Our server was nonexistent! After we sat, there was a lady chatting with the table next to ours for about 15 minutes. I was shocked when she came over and asked for our order because I assumed she was part of that family and not an employee. For starters, the sleeves of her dress got in my water as she was taking our order! She immediately went back to laughing and chatting with other tables. She was chatting for so long that someone else had the time to bring us our pizza, we ate, we packaged it up to go, and still had to wait 20 minutes for her to realize we were done and ready to go. At one point, I had to get up and walk right past her with my glass in my hand to go to the bartender to ask for a refill of my water because I could not get her attention. It's like she was talking so much she couldn't come up for air! I had to get up and ask the hostess for a to go box. The bottle of hot sauce that was given to me was completely empty. My pizza was mushy to the point that I couldn't even pick it up and hold a slice and my mother said her burger had no taste. I don't know how this place is getting such good reviews! The service was so terrible. I have never experienced that anywhere in Spokane. It was obvious from the moment that we sat down that she had zero interest in taking our order. We visited the South Hill Grill while in Spokane for Zag family weekend. Had a bit of a wait but that is totally understandable. The staff who greeted and seated us where super friendly. The menu provided plenty of choices for us to review as we waited.Our waitress Sidney greeted us promptly got our drink orders and waters to us quickly. Took our orders and right after deliver. The ambiance was lively, good music, at the perfect volume for table conversations and TVs tuned to sports all around us. Food took a bit to get to us yet understandable as it was a very busy night. Every thing looked good but one dish that was ordered without onions showed up with onions and as we took a second bite quickly found that we t was still pretty close to raw and the sweet potato fries where burned and over fried. When we mentioned this to Sidney she said that they would remake the order which was great. Yet by the time the remade burger arrived everyone was finished with their meal and to make things worse, when Sidney deliver d the burger she said "some people like their burgers red". What the heck a please keep your opinions to yourself as some people don't appreciate a raw burger. No apologies no discount no nothing but "some people like their burgers rare." I do recommend this restaurant but make sure you state how you would like your food prepared. So you can avoid the flippant comments that are not appropriate or appreciated. This is what Restaurant Week is all about--trying out a new place and finding some good grub. We went to the South Hill Grill on the last night of Restaurant Week 2020 (2-29-20), and I'm glad that we went early (arriving about 4:20). We were able to get the last two-person table and only one other four-person table was left! Busy! I ordered the Pulled Pork Tacos, which were really delicious, but I also had a few bites of the Crispy Calamari (absolutely divine). I was a little concerned about the calamari thinking it would be heavy, crispy with not much calamari taste inside. This was the exact opposite. A meal in itself, the Crispy Calamari dish was filling and excellent. The Pulled Pork Tacos were yummy with great Southwest flavors. Next, came my flaming Fire Lion King. This was truly melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I'd have this again any day. At this point, I'm stuffed because I've eaten everything so far, but we have dessert because it's Restaurant Week, and the menu is a three course one! The Rhubarb Crisp was crispy and tart with just the right amount of sweetness. Excellent! The South Hill Grill has a really cool vibe. The waitstaff hustle and the grill personnel are super busy back there. There was someone setting up to play some music (I think), but we left before that happened, as there were several people waiting for tables. They do have garage doors that open and a patio area that would be fantastic in the summer. This is like a big city place (much like you'd find in Phoenix or other big cities).
