Tasty ice cream, interesting flavors, not cheap but prices are what you'd expect in Berkeley for "artisan ice cream made in small batches with the highest quality, organic ingredients". I knocked a couple stars off because my kids' dad ordered 4 scoops of ice cream a few weeks back & moments after walking out of the shop, my 6 year old tripped & fell, scraping her knee & dropping her ice cream. My kids' dad went back into the shop after helping our daughter up & explained what happened. The employees said they couldn't replace her ice cream & we needed to buy another. I mean, I know it's not really unfair but it is a kinda cold way to run an ice cream parlor. Isn't it like an unspoken rule that if a kid's ice cream falls over right outside, the ice cream shop shows a little heart and gets em another scoop? It's a scoop of ice cream, not diamonds! So of course a fifth ice cream cone was purchased & the kids were all happy, but this experience was off-putting. We live walking distance from iScream, so I'm sure we'll come again but definitely with less enthusiasm next time, and I will make sure to get cups along with the kids' cones. After having dinner in the area, we came across this ice creamery and decided to make a stop to have dessert. During our visit, the small interior included black-white checkered floors, a small counter with 16 flavors of ice cream on display, and an overhead menu. There was a small seating area by the window for people watching. The atmosphere was quiet and subdued on this Sunday evening. We were able to sample several flavors before purchase. We ended up sharing the Cookies and Cream, Mint Chip, and Salted Caramel ice cream ($6.25). A small wafer accompanied each scoop and the consistency of the ice cream was creamy but not as dense as I was hoping for. The Cookies and Cream was the best flavor, with a good balance of cookies and sweet cream in every bite. Unfortunately, the flavor on the Mint Chip did not resonate with that deepening minty flavor. The Salted Caramel was addictive, but for some reason it did not held up and melted too quickly despite the wintery weather. Service was friendly, cheerful, and accommodating. We were initially overcharged, but the mistake was corrected quickly without questions. Overall, there was a lot of promise with their flavors, but the Mint Chip and melting consistency were issues we noticed during this visit. After a recent dinner during a visit to the area, we stumbled upon this small ice cream shop and thought we'd give it a try. Wow! That was some of the best ice cream I've ever tasted!!! I'm finally catching on; ice cream is a good thing. Maybe, I would have been better off not finding this out. However, the damage has been done, now I am on a hunt for gourmet ice cream. Each time I have been here I ordered the same treat, a scoop of the sea salt caramel and the burnt caramel. The ice cream was creamy and rich tasting. I would have never guessed that the addition of sea salt on ice cream would add that little extra to the taste of the caramel. IScream (anyone else think of Pee Wee's Playhouse when he'd scream each time the secret word was heard? ~ okay, I'm old) is along Solano Avenue ~ a cozy shop with black & white-tiled charm, juxtaposed with lime green walls, plus 3 small tables inside and one outside. Their ice cream is made with fresh, organic ingredients. Creamy and flavorful, it's up there with my favorites. I had the pumpkin spice (had a nice kick) and the brown sugar pecan, a la waffle cone. Next time I'd prefer to have the scoops in a cup so I can focus on the wonderful ice cream flavors. The cone was good, just more cone than ice cream and I craved more ice cream to finish it. They let you try flavors and I ended up getting a small with 2 flavors which were Mexican chocolate and Dark chocolate. Both flavors were yummy and consistency was perfect. The Mexican chocolate had a kick to it because of the spice but still delicious. And I'm always a fan of dark chocolate so it really hit the spot when I took a bite of it. I ended up ordering two scoops of ice cream (honey lavender and Thai tea). According to the employees the flavors are not artificial and made from real Thai tea and honey lavender. The Thai tea flavor was spot on! The only small downfall would be the consistency of the ice cream. The consistency of the ice cream was good at first, but it melted pretty quickly. Has the usual ice cream flavors. One unique flavor that most ice cream places do not have is a vegan one. My friend that is vegan liked it. I have tried the good 'ol fashioned mint and chip and the root beer float with vanilla ice cream (I will probably step out of my comfort zone next time). The mint and chip is like any other fresh ice cream place, but they give you an optional free waffle bit (in following picture). The root beer float is a bit pricey, but their business tactic is that they will give you a fancy bottle of root beer. The bottle is half full/empty when the dessert is served, so you are able to "refill" your root beer float with more root beer. This place also has a reward system where you can get a free single scoop after buying 9 ice cream products (they can be any product). The environment is very colorful (green) and has nice tables and chairs to sit down and talk with friends.
