Today a young woman driver, Renee, turned what began as a horrendous situation into a positive one. I originally called AAA for a simple jump start on my car. The first person they sent was not only unable to jump it by lack of having any jumper cables, but ultimately took out my battery before leaving. By the time Renee arrived I had my battery unhooked & no way of moving my vehicle. Because it wouldn't even allow me to put it in neutral she took the time out to research another way & ended up successfully putting it in neutral, getting it onto the tow truck & getting it to the auto mechanic. picked my vehicle up and claim they delivered it to an address. did not call once they arrived and apparently left the keys with the car. went to go look for the car less than 12 hours laster from where they stated they delivered it and my car was not there. called the office and spoke to rep twice and she claimed she reached out to the driver and he isnt answerinh because he is off. car was supposed to be delivered on friday and spoke to rep on saturday and my care is still missing and they have not come back with any more information. i dont believe they ever dropped the vehicle off. reported it stolen to the police and going to leave it in there hands now. luckily i have another car. highly recommend never using them!!!! read more

THIS IS A SCAM SHOP!!! DO NOT TOW YOUR CAR HERE OR GET YOUR CAR REPAIRED HERE!!!! I got into an accident a month ago and my car was just released by Island Tow for repairs a couple of days ago. I had a concussion after being rear-ended and was dizzy and in pain, and very disoriented. The tow driver, Sunil, was nice when he picked me up, but then started to sell me on getting the vehicle repaired there, saying they would knock off a couple hundred on the deductible. I had a brand new car, and was hesitant, but they had my car and I didn't want to rub anyone the wrong way, so I simply said I was going to wait to make a decision until I felt better. Sunil noted that I did not seem well. He offered me a loaner car, which was nice because the uber would have been $50. However, I knew I could not trust these guys because Sunil told me the loaner vehicle had "all the bells and whistles." When I got into the vehicle, it was a 2012 Malibu, filthy, smelled like smoke, had 80,000 miles, needed brake pads and was struggling between the second and third gear. Crappy vehicle - I could tell I was being intentionally deceived. I took several days to recover from the accident and once I did, I dropped off the loaner. I didn't speak to anyone there, and no one spoke to me. I went through my insurance, and then called them to check in on the status of my repairs, which I decided to do at another more reputable facility. My insurance company informed me that Island Tow was under the impression that I wanted to do repairs there. I told my insurance no way. Island Tow called me and said that they had information that I wanted to do my repairs there. I said no, you suggested that at the time of the accident, but I decided not to go with you. I found out 2 weeks later that Island Tow had a document that I had signed releasing the vehicle to them for repairs. This was a simple document that was placed in front of me when I was concussed. When they put that document in front of me, they just briefly said that it was for the tow and the rental. They gathered my insurance info and told me to sign. Repairs were NEVER DISCUSSED. hey did not explain anything about that document to me, and NEVER spoke to me about any repairs until I found they were holding my car hostage. They not only held onto my car for almost a month while they hustled my insurance company for thousand and thousands of dollars for storage and tow fees, but when my BRAND NEW CAR (5 months old, 5,000 miles) arrived at the new repair facility, there was a significant dent on the driver's side door that was NOT there before and NOT related to the rear end collision that happened. I now have to file another claim for that damage with my insurance. I am beyond enraged and frustrated and feel victimized by this company. They took advantage of me in a vulnerable state. In the meantime, I'm running out my car rental allowance through my insurance (which is considerable - 30 days coverage), and have gotten 3 parking tickets although I park 5 blocks away. I live in the city and everything around my neighborhood is restricted and although I do my best, I have missed 2 street cleaning signs and went over a time limit by 15 minutes, so in addition, I get to waste $225 on parking tickets when MY car has a permit for my neighborhood which I just obtained from SFMTA. I just don't want this to happen to anyone else. I'm going to report them to the BBB. read more

I called Island Tow to move it about 8 miles to my property. They would not do the tow because the owner has to be there, I told them a nurse would come meet the driver with his ID and other paper work. This review is for their two service only, almost all initiated by Farmers insurance except once, and i now only request them. One of the times they towed my vehicle was for a car accident and THEY DID NOT SALES PITCH ME THEIR AUTO BODY SHOP!!! They took my vehicle to MY AUTO BODY SHOP, no questions, if, ands, buts, or sales pitches given, smooth and quick tow service during 5pm rush hour to my auto body shop. I have been so far helped by 3 different drivers (Zamora, Xavier, and their Nephew, sorry i forgot your name, you've only helped me once! they are all related interestingly enough) for two of my vehicles, just this year, a safe guesstimate is 6 times. So far they have sent a flat bed as requested majority of the time, only once did they bring the other tow truck (the nephew), the one that trails your car behind (idk what its called, a traditional tow truck?). Anywho, one of the flat beds is ideal for lowered cars like mine (Xavier drives this new truck), and the other flat bed is not ideal for lowered cars BUT the gentleman (Zamora drives this older truck) who was responsible for rolling my car up, was well equipped with 2x4 blocks and skills (for his ill-equipped truck), to safely get my vehicle on to his truck. They are usually always on time if not sooner with their estimated arrival time, except once! I forgive them for it, it was 5pm rush hour coming from San Jose to Fremont, they were nearly 30 mins behind. They also know how to drive a manual transmission vehicle!!!! You maybe wondering why I point this out. I once had a body shop in Fremont hire a tow truck driver and he insisted I drive and load my vehicle on to his truck so he doesn't damage my vehicle. I told him no, i trust him "You're the tow truck driver, i trust you, you have more experience loading vehicles on a tow truck!". WELL it turns out it was because he didn't know how to drive manual....Wish i got the companies name so i could write a review for them too...I then told the auto body shop to use my trusted Island Towing as they have experience with my vehicles and they know how to load and drive manual vehicles. read more

I have only ever had positive experiences with Island Auto Towing. I have AAA, and the first time I needed Island Auto Towing was when the battery in my old car completely died. They were speedy, friendly, and accurately diagnosed the problem. Today, AAA called another tow company that couldn't tow my car since it's an electric and they couldn't figure how to put it in neutral. IAT came, figured out the problem with ease, and took time and care to get my RAV onto their truck bed. I've gone to Island Auto several times now for repair but the first time writing a review for them. They've always been quick, courteous & the price has been so fair. This most recent time I went in because I had attempted to do a smog at another place and failed. The repairs would have been very costly and frankly, I didn't have the money to do it. Fast forward some months - I went to Island Auto to show them the fail notice and ask for quote on repairs so I could try to come up with the money. The boss man was there and it was late in the day. He told me to come back Monday (today) after 10a. I went back and sure enough he was quick to help me and check my car and connected my car to the diagnostic machine. He told me to get gas and drive for some miles and bring the car back. I brought the car back and he asked me to leave the car for a couple hours. He called me an hour later to let me know my car was done! So quick! I came in and he told me that every thing checked out and that my PASS was sent to DMV. I could have cried. They easily saved me over $600 dollars replacing something that didn't need replacing. I will always come to Island Auto for any repairs or service. Last night I found myself at the strip mall at Grove and Center Street. Since March, for some reason, my transmission gets stuck in park and No matter what I tried it just would not get out of park. It was getting dark and I called AAA to ask for a tow. Melissa who took my call at AAA was very calm and supportive. After hearing my story she said she would flag the call as red. About 15 minutes later this very impressive tow truck appeared. Jason assessed the situation in short order. I love my truck, and was concerned to have it towed. Jason soon had my truck loaded and he towed it to my mechanic. Jason was speedy, friendly and took extreme care in towing my 2007 Harley Davidson Truck. Great experience with Island Auto Repair. Tow truck driver arrive quicker than it took AAA to answer the phone. Now tow driver's are not known for their personality but this guy was great. Friendly, helpful and concerned. Now due to his great service, I decided to just leave my truck with IAR rather than have them deliver it to another shop which is what AAA had arranged. Terrible, terrible, terrible customer service. Spoke to Pravi, the owner, at 1:15pm, and he told me the tow truck driver would be there within an hour, most likely by 2pm. I say, "Great! But, I have to leave by 2:30, so make sure to keep me posted!". Driver calls me at 2:45, and informs me he is here at my house(West Oakland). I say that's great, but I already left for work, as I discussed. I ask him how long ago he got the call, and he said "at 1:45, when I was in Burlingame", which means that either Pravi expected his driver to make it all the way from Burlingame to Oakland in 15 minutes(my guess is the driver would have to something like 120mph to make it in time), or, he snowjob'ed me. The first time I dealt with them one of their employees had the biggest attitude over the phone, acting as if she did not want to help me. Now my second time, they've taken over 2 hours to pick my car up, then did not even call me to let me know if my car was dropped off to the location or anything. This happened late night, so I then wake up not knowing where my car is, with no message or missed call from them. I then call at 7:40AM to ask them where they dropped my car off, they said they'll call me back within 30 minutes and its now 10:19AM, and no word back from them. They have horrible customer service & and dont know what it means to be prompt in getting back to a customer. My insurance reaches out to them when needed, but if it were up to me, I would NEVER use their services again. I'll be sure the next time my insurance directs me to them, I'll ask for another tow company. read more

Can't even comment on the service. These guys are "preferred" with our roadside company so they got the gig immediately. They never showed up after confirming multiple times that they were "en route". After about an hour waiting they stopped answering their phone. Then after 70 minutes, they called and claimed that they were there. they obviously were not. Then 10 minutes later they called and said that they had to dispatch a flatbed and they had just found one (basically confirming that all prior claims were certainly lies). They said the flatbed was 5 minutes away. After waiting another 5 minutes we called another tow company--and the other company showed up 15 minutes later. We never heard from these guys. They were late and that happens, but the lying was unnecessary, intentional and low integrity. We waited over an hour and a half and they never bothered to show up. read more

I rear ended another car with my toyota minivan (not my fault) and this was the tow company. Insurance recommended a few mechanics, this not being one of them. I chose them anyway. They seemed nice. They had my car for a month. A MONTH. It was a minor fender bender. Like a five hour per mile type incident. A MONTH. Then when I get it back, it makes this weird noise so I bring it back because they forgot to attach a rubber cover on the hood. It still makes the noise. This was a month ago. I'm ready to just pay someone else to do this. James the Mechanic is a super nice guy and he updates me weekly with text messages and apologizing for the lengthy delays. BUT STILL. Come on. It's still making the damn noise. I have two kids. That's why people buy minivans. I had to cram them both in a sedan for 5 weeks and it still has problems? I give up. Deserves one star really if it weren't for James and his soothing, albeit futile, assurances and pictures of repairs in progress. read more
