We had our Whole House Fan installed a few years ago and it was a good decision! Ivan our salesperson was very helpful and service to get it installed here on Maui didn't take too long even though the business is on Oahu. He had a contractor here locally that installed it for us in about 3 hours. Our house is cool at night, and we don't have to have our A/C on. The cool ambient air from outside blows in and the warm air in the house gets sucked into the attic and out the vents. The fan uses minimal power, saves us on electricity and very efficient. The fan is quiet on the low setting. We do keep the fan on high (little loud) as soon as we get home but it's only on for an hour to cool the inside of the house faster. I have not had to call Island Cooling since I had my whole house fan installed back in 2012... that's a good thing! The grate from my ceiling to my house was getting old, rusty and very dirty. Island Cooling sent an email back in January to get the grate changed out at a special rate, but life happens fast and I didn't get it done. Fast forward a few months and we have stay at home orders put in place. The grate is getting worse so I decided to reply to the original January email to ask if it's still available. Al responded quickly to my request and Ivan followed up by phone and text to figure out which grate I had (of course since 2012, upgrades have been made so he wanted to ensure proper sizing). Ivan set an appointment with me for a couple days later and arrived right on time. He came in with clorox wipes in tow and mask on. He's so nice and professional. He answers all your questions and takes the time to explain things. Ivan changed out my grate quickly and installed a newer model where the grate pops out from the frame in order to clean it more easily. I forgot the term Ivan used, but he told me that whole house fans have been approved to be added in to all newly built houses. Although people have a choice, I by far recommend Island Cooling. Our latest experience is wonderful customer service for replacement of the worn timer when fan wasn't used often over the years because we have adequate trade winds. Fan works well now but as a few reviews mention, the loud rumbling sound of the motor is like an airplane taking off while at medium setting. I sent a review to address this issue to find out if there was a way to buffer this sound so we can use fan on high setting during upcoming summer months. We are still playing with the attic exhaust fan system that was installed on August 26, 2022. So are still gathering facts and forming conclusions about the Quiet Cooling system. I only have one thing to say about the system. It does make a rumbling sound and you can hear it more at night. Sounds like a car idling or waves rolling. I was super impressed with the way each company that was involved in the installation process worked and kept the dust to a minimum and was respectful of our property. Especially the dust inside the house because one fan was installed in the master bedroom and another in the kitchen/living room area. I have done renovations and worked with contractors before. In contrast: I always had to clean up after them and there was fine dust everywhere else besides the area they were working on. No respect for our property either. For example leaning dirty tools against the newly painted house, tracking red dirt everywhere and leaving stains, putting dirty hands on walls, etc. I am not saying it was perfect, I still had to vacuum and mop afterwards but I did not have to dust every single item and furniture in the house. Also did not have to worry about being enveloped by a cloud of fine dry wall dust when getting into bed. Ivan is the best. Love to hear his stories. He is one of the people that makes the company great. Salesman, project manager/field tech, and jack of all trades. He is so knowledgeable and experienced that he had good solutions for my concerns. There was only one other salesman that I came across in my lifetime who was willing to come out to the job site and "get his hands dirty". We've had the Island Cooling whole house fan since 2011 and it is one of the best home improvements we've done. We were reluctant to install air conditioning in our home because of the cost, so when we learned about this system we were intrigued. Al came out to assess our situation, explained how the system works, and gave his recommendation. We use it almost daily. Even when we eventually installed air conditioning, we don't always need to use it because the whole house fan cools the house sufficiently that we don't need to turn on the a/c. The breeze it creates through the main rooms of the house is cool, yet the system is quiet enough that sometimes you don't realize it's on. Most days it's the first thing we turn on when we come home from being out. And because the exhaust vent is located next to the kitchen, it helps eliminate cooking odors too. The only issue we had was the difficulty in cleaning the grate covering the exhaust. At the time of installation, I suppose the only grate available was a permanent install and couldn't be taken down unless you unscrewed it from the ceiling. So of course, it was gross and dirty from the dust and grease that accumulated. But when we called Al about a noise in the system that turned out to be nothing, he was akamai enough to bring a newer panel in case we wanted to upgrade to a removable panel. Duh, yeah! So if you want to cool your home without the high cost of a/c, call Island Cooling. You'll be impressed with their professionalism and knowledge of the system. Even if you prefer to use a/c, use the whole house fan before turning on the a/c to cool the house first. You'll find that the house will be cooled quicker. Just remember to turn off the whole house fan or it will suck out the cool air. read more

Living in Ewa Beach with window a/c units installed preventing from opening any windows upstairs was inconveniet to say the least. We were forced to run 2 a/c units all night, every night. I contacted Island Cooling and dealt mostly with Ivan. An in home estimate was scheduled promptly and I was shown various options. Ivan also explained in great detail the entire process and how the system actually worked. Installation was scheduled and completed very quickly and with no hangups on Island Cooling's part. The system keeps the house cool with minimal electricity. I am now able to sleep till 12 noon comfortably after pulling overnight shifts. Previously it was unbearable to be upstairs later than 10 am unless the a/c was running. Ivan even called after installation was complete to check if there were any issues. Island Cooling installed our two 2560 CFM whole house fans for our 2200 square foot home in September of 2013. We live in Makiki in an area with little cross ventilation so the whole house fans have been a Godsend to us! They work best in the evening, when the house is retaining the day's heat but the temperature outside has cooled a bit. We turn on both fans and within 10-15 minutes, the hot air is expelled and the house is cooled down to nearly outdoor temperature. Without the whole house fans, it would take until the middle of the night with all the windows open for that amount of cooling to happen. About two weeks ago, one of the fans stopped working. I called Island Cooling and they said they would come over right away to check it out. It turns out the fans have a 15 year warranty--can you believe that? On the phone, Island Cooling suspected a bad switch but they said it was possibly the fan motor gone bad, so he would bring both a replacement switch and a replacement fan to the service visit. I scheduled an appointment with Al and he arrived right on time. One trip up to the attic and Al had pulled out the old fan--the motor had burnt out. Within 45 minutes he had replaced the burnt out fan with a brand new one--no charge for the visit, the labor, or the materials! Now, that is service and standing by your product. Island Cooling installed three whole house fans 2 1/2 years ago and I've been using them every day since then. My home in Pearl City has high cathedral ceilings and the three bedrooms are on the second floor. Two of the bedrooms used to get unbearably hot due to the afternoon sun. The first fan of the two fan system began to fail in May 2020 and I received a replacement motor under the 10-year warranty within a few days. A few weeks ago, over the 4th of July weekend, the second fan began to fail so I reached out to Island Cooling again and within a few hours, Al called me back to let me know that the part was in stock and that he could deliver the replacement motor within a day or two.
