Okay, first of all, let me start by saying this review is long overdue, and I apologize because Island Crave has been one of my favorite spots for YEARS. My cousin put me on, and ever since then, it has been one of my go-to places for authentic Jamaican food in Harlem. When I say authentic, I mean authentic--the type that tastes like your auntie, uncle, or grandma is in the back cooking just for you. The portions are always generous, the food is always flavorful, and the owners and staff are some of the nicest people. Every time you walk in, it feels like you're being welcomed home. Back in July (forgive me y'all, life was lifing and I just recently moved back to NY), my cousin and I went because I was having a whole craving--oxtails were calling my name, and Island Crave delivered like they always do. I ordered oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage, and of course plantains, because what is a meal without them? I got a cream soda (duh, automatic), and we also got festival, because I don't care where I go--if festival is on the menu, I'm getting festival. The oxtails were so tender, falling off the bone the way they're supposed to. The gravy? PERFECT. Not too much, not too little--just enough to coat the rice the way God intended. Rice and peas? Chef's kiss. Cabbage? Always hitting. Plantains? Sweet and soft, no complaints. Everything was absolutely delicious. If you're Caribbean, you already know--you want that taste of home, that flavor that hits your spirit. Island Crave gives you exactly that. I've also had their porridge--plantain porridge and cornmeal porridge--both are so comforting and perfect when you need something filling in the morning, especially after a night out. And the ackee and saltfish? Listen... I am an ackee and saltfish girl to my core, and theirs is so good. A whole island breakfast moment. You taste all the flavors and seasonings in every bite. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Island Crave. It's one of my true go-to spots in Harlem, and honestly, even if you're not in the neighborhood, it's worth the trip. Black people..... we have to better. I understand that everything is expensive in NYC but stop trying to rip off your own people. Whoever is writing these bogus lying reviews about this place must be friends of the owner. They never pack plates that full. It's always skimpy plates, full of bones, no chicken in the soup(just juice and dumplings), 3 oxtails for $45 or more(a bunch of rice) curry goat is so spicy that you can't eat it or enjoy it. THE ATTITUDES FROM THE WORKERS IS ATROCIOUS!! THe workers will wash dishes and talk to each other knowing that you are standing there waiting for them to take your order. I brought an oxtail plate for 56 dollars. Guess how many oxtail came with the large? 5! 5 medium oxtails for that price? I learned my lesson with them. Never ever again. I don't care if they know it's me, I use to order from them a lot before and they did something that pissed me off so I stopped. Oh, I ordered oxtails and they were hard as bricks! Not edible. After ordering the CowFoot soup several times each time the taste; thick, watery, and or too many dumplings and noodles, weighing the soup down at $14, or there are too many bones in the soup. The best Cow foot soup is at 149th Street Golden Crust so much better, the ingredients do not change, better taste as well, no bones only with meat on it. The fried whiting fish was not marinated in seasoning but it was fried it looked good until I tasted the black mesh on the fish that they did not take off. It did not smell clean. Similar to Walmart fish in a package. I am sick of eating at restaurants that do not have quality food and satisfying food as well for the money. Its always packed but what are we really use to in our communities? Not I. Over it in supporting when there is no dang quality, great taste and my health, stomach deserves better. One of the best Jamaican spots in Harlem, period. The lunch specials are great too. If you walk in from 11-3pm, you can get stew chicken, two sides and a drink for $8. There's plenty of other items on the lunch menu but that's what I got and it was amazing! read more

Got the jerk chicken with rice and peas, classic Jamaican meal and it was done properly. Their jerk sauce is on point, rice not too sticky, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Located next to the car wash so get a to go plate while your wheel gets rinsed off. read more

This is a hidden GEM. True authentic Jamaican food that I have tasted in a long time. So many restaurants have fallen off over the years-Island Crave has not. I love love love the Oxtails. I think because they are not mainstream and small ( only take out) they stay true. The prices are great compared and you get your moneys worth-a lot of food. Great Jamaican food finally in Central Harlem. Everything is more than solid (especially the curry goat), it reminds me of homecooked Jamaican food. Comforting every time! They also have so much variety in terms of porridge and other breakfast items. It's also very clean and busy inside. If you've tried every Jamaican spot in Central Harlem and it's left you wanting for more, trust me, try them. They'll become your go-to. read more

Island crave although they have good food their customer service sucks. They have you waiting in lines for atleast 20 minutes or more for them to take your order and make your plate, then another 5-7 minutes just to check you out at the register. If you only have 30 mins for lunch break this is not the place to go they do not respect people's time at all read more

If I tell you how brilliant the service was you would think I was lying about how incredible the food is, but both are simultaneously true. Not only is the staff incredibly sweet but this is the best Caribbean food I've had in all of New York (Im not Caribbean but I've tried maybe 25 spots around all boroughs). If there was an an option for no star I would put it. THEY ARE LIARS. I ordered Uber eats and it said buy one get on free STRAIGHT LIE! on top of that it took VERY LONG FOR THEM TO FINISH FOOD. If this store closes down I would clearly understand why. HORRIBLE. read more
