This is the worst Loco Moco I've ever had. They give you a lot of food, but it's all so unappetizing. We got it delivered, and we don't live too far away from this place, but it arrived cold and honestly sort of stinky. Somehow, one of the eggs was missing a yolk. I honestly didn't know that was possible. My boyfriend got the barbecue chicken, and it started off good but just became such a drag to get through--it tasted worse and worse with each forkful. The kalua pork was just pulled pork with a Hawaiian twist. The short ribs were too tough and chewy, and not worth it. The side mac salad and veggie salad were ok, but not really needed considering they were more bland and the main dishes were large enough already. The short ribs are plentiful and a very good sized portion, however it lacks flavor and spices on its sauce. There's a hint of sweetness to it, and good amount of rice place a side salad as well. I usually get the #1 Hawaiian bbq chicken but sometimes I get the sandwich instead. The amount of meat they give you is always ridiculous and it's always juicy and hot. So this is a fastfood place at the Crossroads mall. My son and I dropped by Daiso and we were contemplating whether we should have our usual Korean quick lunch at Palace Korean, which you'll never go wrong.. or grab a bite at the mall. Thinking they'd still have that good Jspanese Gyudon place.. I said ok Unfortunately, the gyudon japanese place was no longer there. So, .my son decided to get korean and I went to get the Hawaiian .and ended up here. For $13.50 for a lunch fare, that's pretty steep. I got a combo deal of BBQ chicken and a kahlua pork with rice and they gave me a size- of macaroni salad. That came with a bottled water. Kahlua pork had cabbage to keep cost low. Flavor was ok, but not great. The BBQ chicken was awful. You can't taste the bbq at all. You can tell it was not marinated at all. Just throw the chicken on the fryer and add a dab of bbq sauce or whatever...but the flavor didn't stick. That lunch was something to make you full but not memorable. Definitely a waste of $13! However, when I looked closer, all my short ribs appeared to be missing something...most of the MEAT! It was all bone with a small piece of meat hanging on. If I had a choice of giving no stars I would have done it. I ordered BBQ Chicken Plate and what I got in the end didn't look or taste like it. It had the texture of BBQ Pulled Pork, but taste like watered down BBQ sauce with a dash of soy sauce. It was awful, but I was willing to give them another shot. I wanted to return what I got and in exchange get a Loco Moco. What they did next annoyed me the most, their Customer service. When I spoke to the person behind the register, she gave me attitude that I wanted to return something that I didn't like. She then spoke to who I think was the owner, then she turns back to me and states, we'll give you 10% off of your next order. Basically, no refund and I have to pay AGAIN! I would like to say thank you Island Grill, because I am never going back to your food stand and I'll make the extra effort to purchase food elsewhere. Today I tried the bbq chicken and bbq beef combo. I subbed my salad out for garlic fries, which they don't charge any extra for.... When it comes to Hawaiian bbq, I've personally felt some restaurants lack flavor and focus primarily on large portions... At Island Grill, the portions are not only huge but the bbq is fresh and delicious. The garlic fries was larger than a large fries from mcdonalds. It's in the top 3 garlic fries I've ever had. It took me two meals to finish all of it, which was only 11 bucks! Their bbq is great...If the family opened a buffet, I'd pay 25 bucks to eat dinner there. read more

The kalua pork tasted okay but it's nothing I will come back for. It was boring. The macaroni salad wasn't that great either. I also ordered a coke, no free refills on drinks. I stopped by Island Grill to get some food to-go as I was leaving the mall today. First of all, the smell coming from the grill when you approach is so delicious and immediately makes you hungry!!! I appreciate that they have pictures posted up that show what each meal looks like, that was a plus. I couldn't decide on just one thing so I ordered multiple. I ordered the Beef short ribs with rice and side salad, Spam masubi and a side of garlic cilantro fries because they looked so yummy! I had great service and the staff were really friendly and professional. They cook everything fresh on the grill in-front of you which is awesome so you know you are going to get a very tasty and fresh meal!! They packed everything neatly for me to take home. The portions were huge!! The beef was so tender and flavorful I could not stop eating it! They make a homemade dressing for the salad which is very delicious way better than your traditional ranch! The spam masubi was very tasty and filling I enjoyed it very much. The fries were so good, they had lots of roasted garlic and cilantro lots of flavor. I ordered a spam musubi today. There was one other order in front of me. Not only did it take 15 minutes, the spam came out really pale. I know you can eat spam raw but for 5 bucks I'd expect a little more cooking. So I asked the lady behind the counter if I could get it cooked a bit more and she sighed (there were no other people after me) and said, "we'll have to do it again." Been going here for 6 years. Needless to say I'm a huge fan. The bbq beef slaps. I'm upset though, the garlic fries on the other hand have lost their pizazz. They used to be these Beautiful golden fresh fried shoestring fries with FRESH garlic on top. Not anymore my friend. The staff was friendly, the pulled pork and pineapple chicken were really good, and you can grab a can of Hawaiian Sun to go with your food... I decided to give them another chance yesterday and got a big nasty finger nail in my food...not sure if it was a fake or a real one but either way it was really gross. We saw the lady working the counter who had the matching nails. When I approached one of the staff to tell them what was in my food, he started talking to her and another girl, afterwards she quickly found an excuse to go in back and disappear for awhile. Wow. We made the decision to come to this place before I checked reviews. After I placed my order, I sat down to check-in on Yelp and I saw all the negative reviews. I do have to say that the food was better than most people have said. Maybe they've stepped it up? We got the chicken BBQ and short ribs and kalua pork, and we had to try the spam musubi. The chicken was juicy, but got old fast. We didn't finish eating it. The macaroni, true to all the reviews, was really boring and just flavorless and mayo-y. The short ribs were decent. I've had better, but there was a good amount of meat provided. I saw another reviewer post up a seriously sad picture of just the rib bone parts with barely any meat. So at least there's that. The kalua pork was decent, at least the 4 shreds of it that I got. The spam musubi did not use sweet rice. The rice also tasted dry, so this was not freshly made for sure. The food was just "okay". I wouldn't come back, especially not with so many other tried and true eats surrounding this place. The prices are pretty horrendous for the amount of food that you get. Do not recommend. read more

My first thought, "Oh !@#!#%" And here's why Island Grill would be an easy way to check in for a Maverick Badge: 1. It takes a while to order. They're not the fastest. 2. They may not have enough materials to make things off of their menus. We were told to order something else after 5 minutes when they realized they couldn't make it. We ordered something that costed less, but they didn't offer to refund the difference. It wasn't enough for us to argue after already waited that long. 3.
