For some reason every time I go to the Crossroads mall I end up eating here. It's been three times and every time I have the loco moco (at least I think that's what it is called) which is two burger patties topped with fried eggs and gravy and served with macaroni salad and rice. Each time I have really looked forward to it and each time I have been sorely disappointed. The rice is always sticky and over cooked but otherwise the food tastes pretty good. The reason I have been so disappointed is that every single time the day after eating there I am sick to my stomach. If it had been once I would say it was unlikely to be related, twice looks likely but three times? Well it seems clear it is related. The guy at the register was an asshole. He wouldn't even acknowledge me when I stood there and it seemed to me that he may have been a cook used to being in the back who was forced to man the till while the regular person went out to smoke a bong or something. Who knows. Anyway, once he condescended to look at me, I tried to order the BBQ shredded pork + cabbage, but it turned out that they were out of pork. Okay. So I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken BBQ instead because the guy recommended it after some prying. My boyfriend ordered the Coconut shrimp. The non-social register guy, now cooking our meals, then didn't bother to holler at my boyfriend - who was sitting right next to the place - that the food was ready. I went to go buy something at the Crossroads QFC and I came back to find the man just kind of standing there looking into our general direction expectantly, not saying a word. The food itself: My BBQ chicken was immensely flavorful (it reminded me of sweet teriyaki) and tender, so I give it credit for that! But the macaroni salad was tasteless and the portions were too small, I feel for the amount that I paid. My boyfriend's coconut shrimp was alright but it tasted like I could have bought the same thing at QFC for half the price and cooked it at home. I've only eaten here about two or three times, but only their loco moco. I only get this if I'm craving Hawaiian food and around the area. You get a lot for what you pay for but I've had better loco moco before, the sauce is just only okay to me, could use a bit more flavor and less pepper and they put waaay too much of the sauce. The hamburger steak is really tasty though, but still not the best. Their mac salad is definitely bland though. When I get it right way with my order it's fine, but when I left it over in my fridge and brought it for lunch the next day, I did not like it at all! It was literally cream with no taste to it. When I ordered here last time, I rang the bell because I didn't see anybody on the cash register but no one was still coming out, then I realized the cashier was standing there the whole time... She didn't even acknowledge that was she was there, just that she was short. I don't even know why I apologized for not seeing her. She did ask me if I wanted mac salad or regular salad, but she did not ask how I wanted my eggs cooked. Also after my order was ready, no one told me, I was just sitting at the table across. I was paying attention the whole time and didn't mind that my egg was sunny side up because I like it that way, but if someone else had a preference about how they want their eggs cooked or if they weren't alerted when their food was ready, there would be an angry customer. This is probably a very underrated hawaiian grill. Its located inside the crossroads mall internation food court and is almost always where I get food when I'm at crossroads. My go to is the bbq beef plate. The beef is tender and very well seasoned and the serving portion is quite generous. I also really like the salad dressing they give with the side salad. It goes well with the beef. If you like bbq, give this little place a try! read more

Yeah, this place is not that bad entirely. It was pretty terrible as they were experimenting when they first opened but they have gotten better. They make up for the amount of food given and the effort they give. It is unfortunate and odd that there are no food options for Hawaiian fair in the area. Also, they seem pretty open to feedback to make changes. I don't think they know exactly what we expect from Hawaiian foods. . . but they do fill a void in the area. The mac salad is definitely something I avoid here. If they sold standard QFC mac salad it would be better than the stuff they give. Yes, mac salad is very important in a local Hawaiian meal! Anyway, they seem distant in service with some people I think because they are just quiet and Asian. They seem very timid but they do have a couple of younger workers with lots of energy. It depends on the time of day on scheduling and the area is a bit loud so you need to make your presence known. One star only because the chicken was flavorful. I ordered a chicken sandwich. I should say that the chicken filet was more like a wafer, the bun was soggy, the sad floppy leaf of lettuce sort of laid there like it was ashamed of itself because it couldn't hide the pitifulness of the chicken wafer. I have a very high first impression of this place. So, I will not hesitate to write a positive review. My husband and I visited the Crossroads does the first time and did two spins around the food court before deciding on this place. I didn't have high expectations at all. But I was wondering over by the price, taste and portion (not necessarily in that order). I got the BBQ beef and shrimp plate with a side salad instead of macaroni. I thought I'd regret that decision, but the salad was good... drenched in that citrusy mayo (this is what I call it) dressing that I love so much. The portion was truly Hawaiian style -- big enough for all my stomachs (Moo!). I finished everything and topped it off with the Passionfruit drink. This place is okay. The kalua pork is quite good. It is moist, flavorful and served properly with the cabbage and all. I'd give the kalua pork a solid four stars and would definitely like to eat it again. The mac salad is passable, but not terrific. It tastes a bit heavy on the mayo and light on everything else, with the end result being that it is a bit on the boring side. It isn't gross or anything like that, but it is a little bland, at least to my taste. The rice was a little on the dry side. Again, it wasn't horrible or inedible or anything like that-- just slightly dry. The portion size was very generous. It felt a little expensive for a plate lunch, but hey, it is Bellevue. It was my first time here and safe to say I will never be coming back. The cashier misheard my order and I ended up with something completely different from what I wanted and when I asked for it "for here" she had packed it to go. Most of all, the food was terrible. I ended up with the coconut shrimp and BBQ chicken combo. The shrimp had an off taste to it and it was mostly breading. BBQ chicken was one piece of small chicken thigh with a teriyaki like glaze. 1 small piece of chicken and 4 pieces of inedible shrimp was not worth $13. Terrible service and terrible food. read more

Oh dear. Where do I begin? We had our first experience with this "fast food Hawaiian" place. It was horrible!! I ordered the BBQ beef and chicken. OMG. First of all the brown rice it came with was so soggy. Made me suspect either 1.) They don't know how to make rice or 2.) They reheated rice from the previous day (when people reheat rice they often add extra water to get the rice to be hot). In any case, it was inedible. Secondly, the chicken was either 1.) old meat 2.) or cooked so long in their warming trays, it was flavorless. Third, the beef was no better than the beef we eat in our school lunches. And to think I paid $12.99 for that meal! I certainly hope people who haven't been to Hawaii won't think this is how Hawaiian food tastes. (1) Whoa, there, on the vinegar on that spam musubi, people. Dial it down a notch. The rice isn't supposed to be *sour*. I don't know exactly why I keep stopping by there and buying those. I guess I keep hoping they'll improve. No. (2) What is up with your mac salad? It's so ... bland. Can we get a panel of Hawai'i transplants to come in and taste? Needs more ... I don't know, SOMETHING. Sugar? Flavor? Aloha? (3) Plate lunch comes with rice, yes, but not long-grained rice. That was odd. I love long-grain rice, don't get me wrong. But um, I don't think I ever, ever had a scoop of long-grain rice with my plate lunch in Hawai'i. (4) Your short ribs made me sad. Then angry. Then confused. They were the tiniest things I've ever seen. And I couldn't cut saw through them because instead of meat on the ribs, there was only fat and gristle and the blues. Covered with barbecue sauce. I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty delicious. I was worried that the mild sauce would be too mild - not the case. I really enjoyed both the sandwich and the fried. The staff was friendly and they are nice enough to put lemon in the water dispenser they leave out for the customers. I would go back if I was ever in Crossroads again. read more

I wanted to like this place so much, because there really is no dependable Hawaiian food place in Bellevue. Sadly, this place does not measure up. I've given Island Grill many opportunities, but they continue to disappoint. I've tried both the Hawaiian BBQ beef and the chicken, and while their flavor is okay, the portions leave something to be desired. Also, as other have said, the mac salad is absolutely terrible, watery and flavorless. I've also tried the Spam Musubi which is hard to mess up. It tasted fine, though it was nothing special. Overall, especially with O'Char next door, I cannot recommend Island Grill. If you have the urge to eat Hawaiian food, you're better off driving west into Seattle or south to Aloha Hawaiian Grill than eat at Island Grill. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place. Met a friend there specifically to try it out. Kalua Pig: dry. They ladle two scoops of juice over it to moisten it up just before they serve it to you (I watched them do this). This creates a lake of juice for your green salad and rice to sit in. Cabbage? a few thin strips at the bottom of the lake. Even with that, my dining companion commented that it looked dry - and it was. Definitely not ono. Big portion for $10, but I didn't even want to take the left-over half home. Straight to the trash. When I ordered, they asked if I wanted mac salad or green salad with my plate. I asked for mac, but they delivered just the green (it's one of those green salads that every teriyaki place in our state serves.) No one else in line, no other orders, so hard to get wrong. I asked about the mac salad I ordered, they grudgingly gave me some, no apology. Mac salad: like other reviewers here, wtf? Swimming in milky liquid. Bland. Bad pasta texture. Not good. If it were possible to give a negative '0', this is the rating I'd give!!! They should be ashamed of themselves serving the low quality of beef that they serve and the price they charge!!! The meat was tough & chewy with lots of ligaments or whatever & no flavor at all; they served large portions of nothing but FAT mixed in with this terrible meat, which has absolutely no meat attached to it at all! The sauce has no flavor either, at least not a bbq flavor. You have to stand there while they fix your food, because they ask your name but do not call it out when the food is ready. The only thing decent is the green salad! The portions of meat & rice are very skimpy, however you wouldn't want any more of this meat anyway. It really is that BAD!!!
