I love it here! I try to come here every time I come through this area. The food is good, the service is good and the restaurant itself is always clean whenever I walk in. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. This visit, I tried the Oxtail and it was very good! It was braised and served in a brown gravy, with Caribbean rice, plantains and cabbage on the side. My mother-in-law got the jerk pork and loved it too! It was all very filling. I've only had Caribbean food once before, so I'm no connoisseur, or expert, but I think the flavors work well together here. The rice was a little overcooked in texture, but it still tasted good. It had a very mild flavor. The plantain was okay, nothing special and same with the cabbage. My dish's main attraction was definitely the oxtail. The last time I came here, I had the jerk chicken and it was very good, full of flavor! The lady at the counter was nice and it didn't take long for our food to come out. They keep their establishment very clean and it's been nice to see the place change over the years with all it's interior. If your looking for authentically seasoned Jamaican food this is not the place. I ordered the trio sampler which consisted of three proteins, plantain and rice and peas. The proteins I chose were jerk chicken, curry goat and oxtail. Now of the proteins were fully cooked, the flavor was terrible and the rice had no peas. Not to mention, the rice was a red color and smelled like Spanish rice. However, I must say that the cashier and chef were very nice people and they had excellent customer service. I spent some time working in the Caribbean and love this cuisine and wanted to introduce it to my fiancé. I chose wisely. The food here was en pointe! Everything delicious. We got the sampler trio and special spicy shrimp (begins with an E but no way am I able to spell it ) All dishes were more than delightful. There is nothing authentic about this Jamaican place. Very disappointed in the food. My husband had the jerk chicken which was just some barbecue with a sweet sauce no heat or spices. The curry goat was I don't know but not authentic curry. The rice has small black peas and the rice had no flavor. I had some curry chicken that was rubbery and the rice with very little peas. Just had my husband to go pick up a jerk pork meal fir me . I've eaten for many times and know the owne rs so I gad to give such a bad review but knowing authentic Jamaican food, the food here has became so inconsistent n I w and how do you nit have cabbage, and give me canned green beans. This place rocks!! About once a month I drive an hour just to eat at Island Jerk in the little downtown area of Brunswick. I recommend all of it: jerk chicken, curry chicken, ox tail. They were out of brown stew when I ordered it but I predict it will be awesome based on everything else. Also I was totally surprised by the cabbage. Usually I hate that stuff but these guys have a way of making it the perfect compliment to the meats. Also note: my girlfriend is vegan and they have amazing options for her so she isn't limited to friend pickles or whatever. Meat pies there are a nice appetizer and the desserts are good too. Also, consider picking up the hot sauces they sell at the counter. Matouks brand is an absolute favorite. Thank you guys for introducing me to that sauce. read more

OMG, has the Saigon Market become the big boys on the block when it comes to Vietnam food and fare? The answer is yes, they have. Saigon Market as a grocery store is top notch, they have everything oriental. Asian fare for Japanese, Chinese, Koreans to Malaysia. Then there is the newly opened restaurant. OMG what a menu of Vietnamese food. They serve the best Pho I ever had, it was amazing. The broth was so rich, nothing bland about it. The staff, well they are the sweetest people, service is quick and the readily take a complement with out that stoic stare. I can't wait to go back and try a Bon Mi sandwich. Or spring rolls. The price is very competitive fort the other Vietnam restaurants in the area. $7.00 for lunch not bad. read more

Generally, I pass through Brunswick when I come for business. I've never had time to visit downtown Brunswick so today I had some time to grab lunch. I'm glad I did. Island Jerk satisfied my hunger. I ordered the oxtail and beef patty. Both were excellent. It tastes very similar to when I visited Jamaica. The food had great flavor and was not greasy which was awesome. Their house made vinegar was delicious. I enjoy any vinegary foods so I was glad to be able to add a little spicy vinegar to my meal. The service was friendly and quick. It you need food fast and get back on the road, Island Jerk can do that. I lingered for a bit and they didn't mind, which is also nice since I didn't want to hit the road again right away. I must admit. I am addicted to this place. I eat here at least once a week, if not more. The jerk pork, curried goat, and oxtail are my favorite menu items but recently I have been sticking with their special of the day and am always amazed. Some of my favorite specials lately have been the jerked shrimp and grits, crab stuffed tilapia, and their Jamaican take of surf and turf. The specials usually range from $7.95-$9.95 and I am always amazed at the amount of food for the price. The only complaint I have heard is that there are bones in the chicken, goat and oxtail. Yes, there are, and as this doesn't bother me, if it bothers you I would suggest going with the pork or one of their many vegetarian options. This place is a must try for lunch or dinner in Downtown Brunswick! read more

It helps if you like Jamaican chicken. Excellent recipes and ample servings. Plate sizes ( small, medium and large) for specials to fit everyone's appetite needs. I must say that, being Caribbean myself, this alleged "Jamaican" food definitely missed the mark on so many levels. I honestly question how/if the meat was cleaned and seasoned before it was cooked. I was served big pieces of inedible goat skin that should have been discarded prior to cooking. My Oxtails were seriously undercooked and my rice was way over cooked and mushy. This place is just awesome!! The people are very nice and they are being super careful and respectful regarding social distancing. There are tables outside and a sweet little park around the corner. They also do take out. The food is the star here. We had jerk shrimp and a jerk chicken and avocado wrap. Both were delicious. The jerk shrimp was served with rice, cabbage and plantains. The shrimp had great seasoning, not too much spice. Just right. The rice had the most unique flavor - kind of a smokey. I really liked the cabbage - just salt, pepper and cooking oil and nice and cooked through. The plantains were a nice treat to finish off my meal. My hubby had the jerk chicken and avocado wrap with fruit and onion rings. He raved about it. I had an onion ring - fantastic (you can tell they use Vidalias because they were sweet). First time eating in but not my first time patronizing this establishment. The food used to be so good here but 9/14/19 was a waste of money and the hour travel one way to come here. The jerk chicken had some odd red sauce on it, was dry and over cooked. The oxtails were tough, curry was cold and my husband and I were given two small pieces of plantain each. We further wasted money by buying two pieces of what we were told was "homemade" dessert. It was like a brownie sandwich with whipped cream in the middle and caramel drizzle. The cake was very dry and we both threw it away. Some of the worst food of any kind in my four years in Georgia. My wife and I just stopped here after missing out on some PamPam cupcakes. What a hidden gem?! This place is awesome. From the minute you walk in you are greeted and offered an opportunity to try their three most popular dishes. After making your selection, you can try samples of their different juice drinks. Once that is done, you sit down and maybe a minute later, your food is ready and on the table. I'm always hesitant to try food other than BBQ and Mexican in the area, but this meal was worth the stop. The chicken we had was moist and flavored well. Food requires some improvement During my first trip to St. Simon's island one weekend, I discovered this restaurant on Yelp; the reviews were so positive, I had to try it for myself. Boy, was I disappointed. I ordered the jerk chicken plate, which came with cabbage, 1 plantain (yes, ONE plantain) and flavorless rice. My fiance ordered the curry goat plate, which came with cabbage, ONE plantain and flavorless rice. The jerk chicken was nowhere near authentic. It tasted as though the cook simply poured sauce over grilled chicken and served it to me. Tasted nowhere near jerk. The cabbage was decent; no complaints there. This is the first Jamaican restaurant I went to where I was only served ONE plantain. The server mentioned that only one plantain is served in Georgia, which is simply false. I have been to other Jamaican restaurants in GA and was served a lot more than ONE plantain. The curry goat was decent. The rice, as I stated before, required some major improvement. The restaurant had two redeeming factors. The server was extremely friendly, accommodating, and informative. She told me where to explore on my first journey to St. Simons. She also suggested that I tried the mango lemonade. Delicious. All in all, the food requires some improvement, but overall, nice ambience, friendly people, and delicious mango lemonade. read more

What a nice surprise. We were checking out marinas in the area and late having lunch. We found this place on Yelp looking for Carribean. We loved the place, the food and the people. We each ordered a combo plate and we're happy with the jerk chicken and jerk pork and we both loved the curried goat. Took us right back to the BVI. The rice was fine. I basically consider rice as a vehicle for sauce and that was great. BUT, I have to highly recommend the baked goods. We got a piece of bread pudding fresh out of the oven and it was the best bread pudding I have ever tasted. So many flavors in it. Wonderful! Just hope I get a chance to go back soon. read more

My wife and I were looking for something that was different than the run of the mill restaurant so we decided to try the Island Jerk. Upon walking in you feel as though you are in a grungy deli. The place is not kept up at all. The floor was dirty, the table was not clean and the greeting area/cashiers desk was just about as cluttered as it could be. All these signs should have turned us right back through the door we just came through but it didn't. We read a few of the reviews before deciding on this place and for the most part, the reviews were pretty good, even mentioning that if you were unsure about the flavor of what you might want to order, they would offer you a sample. Sure enough they did. We tried the chicken and goat. Both were very good, that is probably why we continued to stay. We both ordered the chicken each with a couple of sides. I had a side salad and we both had corn bread brought out to us. So far, so good right? Maybe, my salad had just arrived and it looked wonderful. There were olives on it that were not listed in the description of the salad however I just pulled them off and ate the rest. There was several veggies on it other than just lettuce. Overall I would rate the salad a 7 out of 10. Now for the bad... The cornbread was dry, like days old refrigerated dry. It was barely warm, though that wouldn't have mattered unless they could have soaked it in butter first. The entree, same as the cornbread above. It tasted nothing like the sample brought to our table. At my home, I have thrown out better chicken than what was served. The chicken had clearly come out of the refrigerator and had been reheated somewhat but it was still stiff, not tender like it should have been. At the end of our dinner my wife went up to the counter to get to go containers for the leftovers. After spending 30 seconds there and glancing at the kitchen she determined the leftovers were going to go to the dog. Upon arrival to out house she took the leftovers and threw them in the trash. When I asked her why she didn't give them to the dog she replied "I am not going to risk giving something to the dog that might get her sick or kill her" which I replied, "Good point". I like to support local businesses but after this experience I am leaning towards dining at chain restaurants because at least they attempt to cover the fact that some of the food they serve is reheated.
