Jerk chicken and curry goat with rice and peas
    Tee J.

There is nothing authentic about this Jamaican place. Very disappointed in the food. My husband had the jerk chicken which was just some barbecue with a sweet sauce no heat or spices. The curry goat was I don't know but not authentic curry. The rice has small black peas and the rice had no flavor. I had some curry chicken that was rubbery and the rice with very little peas. This place was recommended but will never venture to this restaurant again when visiting this town.

This is supposed to be jerk pork, taste more like stew pork.

Just had my husband to go pick up a jerk pork meal fir me . I've eaten for many times and know the owne rs so I gad to give such a bad review but knowing authentic Jamaican food, the food here has became so inconsistent n I w and how do you nit have cabbage, and give me canned green beans. The jerk pork is not even spicy like it has always been, and I've loved it. Either they fired the best cook or have made him change his recipes. I'm just so disappointed with it now, have to fund a new place.

Came in for a late lunch. Ordered conch fritters and the echovic with shrimp. Both were very good. They were nice enough to ask if I wanted the sauce (spicy) on the side. This is a great small place in the old part of town. A must if your looking for Caribbean food.

Was really craving fish and food that reminded me of home (I'm colombian but whole fish, rice, and plantains always remind me of home cooking). This was amazing and really hit those Caribbean flavors perfectly. I definitely recommend.

Generally, I pass through Brunswick when I come for business. I've never had time to visit downtown Brunswick so today I had some time to grab lunch. I'm glad I did. Island Jerk satisfied my hunger. I ordered the oxtail and beef patty. Both were excellent. It tastes very similar to when I visited Jamaica. The food had great flavor and was not greasy which was awesome. Their house made vinegar was delicious. I enjoy any vinegary foods so I was glad to be able to add a little spicy vinegar to my meal. The service was friendly and quick. It you need food fast and get back on the road, Island Jerk can do that. I lingered for a bit and they didn't mind, which is also nice since I didn't want to hit the road again right away. I would recommend this restaurant to any local and visitor.

Peanut Butter Balls. The best desert I've had in years! Thanks Ms B

Another incredible lunch for this island jerk finished with an incredible desert; peanut Butter Balls. Ms B has outdone herself once again!

Special of the Day - Crab stuffed Tilapia with sautéed mixed vegetables and rice. Soo good!

I must admit. I am addicted to this place. I eat here at least once a week, if not more. The jerk pork, curried goat, and oxtail are my favorite menu items but recently I have been sticking with their special of the day and am always amazed. Some of my favorite specials lately have been the jerked shrimp and grits, crab stuffed tilapia, and their Jamaican take of surf and turf. The specials usually range from $7.95-$9.95 and I am always amazed at the amount of food for the price. The only complaint I have heard is that there are bones in the chicken, goat and oxtail. Yes, there are, and as this doesn't bother me, if it bothers you I would suggest going with the pork or one of their many vegetarian options. This place is a must try for lunch or dinner in Downtown Brunswick!

proof that it's buckra owned and they know nothing about jamaican culture

This…read moreyear we're in town closer to New Year's and thankfully, we were able to try Maggie Mae's in downtown Brunswick. This definitely appears to be a popular place with locals because most people are greeted by name as they enter the restaurant. I was greeted with a smile and a good morning as soon as I entered the restaurant. They gave me a menu and told that I could sit anywhere I would like. The server was very friendly and relatively attentive. The dining room is adequately filled with six large larger tables and a number of smaller ones that are perfect for two people. They also have four picnic tables outside. They serve breakfast and lunch all day. Yelp shows that they're open until 3 PM, but the menu shows 7 AM to 2 PM Monday through Friday, and the grill is turned off at 1:30 PM. I decided to try their ham and cheese omelette. The menu shows a peace symbol next to the best selling items. The omelette comes with hashbrowns or grits and your choice of toast. The server suggested raisin toast or the biscuit. I typically do not order biscuits because they tend to be dry. Their biscuit was surprisingly good. It was sliced in half and grilled on both sides. It tasted soft and moist after applying butter and strawberry jam. Similar to the biscuit, the ham and cheese omelette was also really good. It was loaded with ham and there was possibly a little more ham than cheese. Overall, I had a positive experience. The food tasted great, and the service felt personable and exemplified southern hospitality. I would definitely consider returning, and I would recommend Maggie Mae's to others Cheers

Maggie Mae's look fun and it was. Food: a unique, toasted Cuban sans mustard with a heap of tater tots. Also tasty egg salad with pasta salad. Both with water. All good. Ambiance: this is a local oasis with a wide breakfast and lunch menu, including soup of the day. Sandwiches are specialities but we hate to have missed breakfast. Not opulent but a hometown feel you can't import. Service. Perfect. From ordering to delivery to a quick "hey" from the boss. We'll go again when in the area.

Because the restaurant is downtown there is plenty of free street parking spaces right outside the door. There is a bar, with bar seating, The other seating consisted of normal table with hard back chairs, and couches that ran down the side of the wall with tables, and hard back chairs on the other side. Overall, the service was adequate, not good, and certainly not great, but good enough not to stop us from enjoying our night out. I started with what was supposed to be a cup of Tomato Bisque but received and paid for a bowl. Somewhat my fault for not realizing that my serving and what I paid for was large and more expensive than the cup I ordered. With that said, I thought the flavor of the bisque served with, Garlic Buttered Crostini, and grated Smoked Gouda was outstanding. The temperature could have been a bit warmer, but again the flavor was sport on. The wife and I split a very large bowl of PEI Mussels. The Mussels were served in a white wine broth with Shallots, Garlic, Roasted Tomatoes, and Bacon. Honestly, I could and did finish the broth off as a soup. There were quite a few Mussels that did not open, but the bowl was so large, we wouldn't have eaten them anyway. The wife's main dish was the Pan Seared Sea Scallops, with peach and bacon risotto, and fresh Spinach. The dish was finished with an amazing Bourbon Peach Brown Butter Reduction. The scallops were large, the Risotto was great, but the brown butter reduction was the absolute star of the dish. For my main dish I had the Curried Lamb Lollipops, served over Cilantro Basmati Rice, and roasted Tomatoes with an excellent curry sauce. The chops were of good size and cooked to perfection. And please don't even get me started on the fired Garlic Butter Paratha which is some of the best bread I have ever had. My mistake was ordering a side of the Peach and Bacon Risotto similar to what was served with the scallop dish. Without the Bourbon Peach Brown Butter Reduction however, the risotto ate a little dry and had little to no peach flavor. I finished my meal with a bourbon , Mascarpone, bread pudding, which was amazing. The dish was loaded with bourbon which both my wife and I agreed was not completely cooked off. Great dish to finish an outstanding meal. Even with a few minor missteps, the overall flavor of the dishes were so good, I still must give it an overall 5.

The edamame seemed as though it had been cooked earlier and simply reheated before being served. The sushi rolls appeared hastily assembled, and the avocado was overly mushy. The spicy tuna roll was unusual, consisting of plain tuna with sriracha drizzled on top rather than a traditional spicy tuna mixture. The California roll was generic and forgettable. The Philly roll was the best item we tried, but the smoked salmon tasted as though it may not have been at its freshest. Service was acceptable--nothing particularly bad, but nothing that stood out either.
