Also, the brown stew chicken has a sweetish taste to it which I'm not a fan when it's prepared like that. Plantains and cabbage was good. Food came in one of the smallest container I've ever seen for a lunch item especially for that kinda price. WOW!!!!! I now see what the other Yelpers are saying. The lunch comes with a Lemonade or Raspberry Tea juice which is also in a rather small container. I mixed mine with mostly lemonade and a bit of Raspberry tea. Flavor was really good but way too sweet for my preference. There plain Roti has chick peas inside which I prefer it mixed in the dough but I do know authentically it's personal preference how various island people make it. It looked good but sadly it was quite bland. Customer service on the phone and in person was very good. The women on the phone was helpful in answering my questions. Her warm personality also encouraged me to give them a try. I have an extra star for that reason. Often times not the case at most Jamaican restaurants. The restaurant is nicely island style decorated and inviting. Very clean too. Overall it satisfied my curiosity but not my taste buds. Inside it was nice and refreshingly cool considering how hot it is outside. Crystal took up my order of Jamaican jerk chicken with all the rice, plantains, beans, and greens. Came by to get takeout the other day, I hadn't ordered ahead so had a bit of a wait. Actually, the wait was longer BEFORE I ordered than after because the two groups in front of me took an awfully long time to order. Overall, it was good. The flavor was in the ballpark of what I was expecting, though not very spicy. Still good flavor. Nice and saucy for the rice to pick up the juices. A lot of bones to give it flavor. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender... but there was just one problem. I'm not sure where most of the meat went when it fell off those bones, but most of it was not into my dish. The bone to meat ratio was extremely high, probably 30 bones and maybe 8 small pieces of meat. I liked the sides a lot. The curry goat was probably middle of the road compared to the other places I've been in the area. All in all, I'd go again when I didn't want to brave downtown Silver Spring, but I'd call in my order. They had a lot of other stuff on the menu that sounded good, a variety of patties too, so I may branch out and try some of those on a future visit. This was the jerk chicken lunch special and there was barely 2 ounces of meat. The chicken had a bit of flavor, by the rice was terrible. It had no flavor and to add insult to injury the plantains were hard and flavorless. I am so sorry to have to write this 3 star review. I would actually only give them 2.5 but that's impossible and I really feel bad for them. I know they opened during the pandemic, but I can't make something up. We live about a mile away so finding new restaurants close by that we like is fab. First, the decor is bright and happy, which I really like. The menu is quite expansive including West Indian breakfast favorites that you dont often see. Nice to see abundant vegan options. Last visit (our test run) we had patties, which everyone liked. This time we had dinner including jerk chicken and shrimp (comes with rice and plantain with cabbage). The jerk sauce was flavorful not too spicy but gives a little tingle. Shrimp was not overcooked and they gave a fair number. My daughter thought her chicken was delish! The rice was perfectly cooked and the cabbage well seasoned and not cut too large, which often is an issue at some places. There was a little too much sauce on mine is my only critique. My son had the curry steak, which he demolished and my partner had curry shrimp, he enjoyed but thought it was a little spicy, which means it was probably perfect (he's not a spicy loving guy). Sides: I loved the yucca fries! They were perfect (not too oily, not too thick, not overcooked). The Mac n cheese was definitely not a fan favorite. My son took two bites and did not eat. Felt more like boxed product with lots of powdered cheese. It did not match the quality and taste of the other food. Would either overhaul it or get rid of it on the menu. I have ordered the Brown Stew Chicken meal and also the Escoveitched King fFsh meal and both meals have been very appetizing. This is not a preferred place to go. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, you will lose a tooth on the cabbage and island wrap veggie. First off nobody wants raw cabbage with no taste. Cabbage is soft not raw. They over charge for uncooked food. The rice and pea is very under cooked or reheated to dry asf. If you dont want a BS upcharge go veggie and still get disappointed. I live in the area for over 15 years and decided to try this restaurant for the first time today. I decided to get the curry goat dinner listed for $17.00 and my sister got the cow foot soup, large for $8. When we got home, I notice that the expensive goat dinner was filled with mostly bone, very little steam vegetable and a lot of rice and beans. The little bits of goat was ok. I ordered the lamb chops which were a bit pricey but still pretty good. Nice size lamb chops and the flavors was pretty good too. Actually the whole meal was a good size portion. I couldn't get through it in one sitting. The meal automatically comes with rice and peas and cabbage with two pieces of plantains. I'm not a big fan of plantains but I gave those to my boyfriend, no problem. I also got a beef patty (not in the picture) and some $7.00 Mac and cheese. Not really worth the $7.00 in my opinion. The beef patty was pretty good. A little on the small side, compared to other places though and the Mac and Cheese could have benefited from some extra seasoning but overall it was not bad. When I picked up the ordered it took a few minutes like they were still working on it but at least it was fresh and nice and hot. So yes, overall it was a good experience. This is the third time I am ordering from here, thé First Time it was good, the second time the chicken pasta had way to much heavy cream or Alfredo sauce I wanted jerk flavor, there wasn't enough. the third time they forget my sprite, the Mac an cheese is way over prized and so are all the sides with it being such small portions, Theirs not even a cup of it in there when you get it. I can make better Mac and cheese than this. Also for a side of sauce it is a 1 dollar and it's such a small container. My brown stew chicken was barely any chicken and when I put substitute veggies for Mac the lady tried to charge me 2 dollars more, and guess what when I got the order their was barely a scoop of Mac in there. How are you going to charge extra for only a scoop of Mac. I have tried other Caribbean places where their lunch places was at a good price and portions were great for the prices they charge. However this place needs to stop skimping the rice and chicken and put more food; or decrease their prices for the sides.
