Good: Clean office, professional and friendly receptionist. Easy to get an appointment. Bad: I went in for an annual cleaning and had a suspicion that I had a cavity. The first person that reviewed my mouth (a dental assistant, I'm assuming) confirmed that, yes, I had a cavity. The cleaning proceeded etc and afterwords the doctor came in to chat. She didn't mention the cavity at all. I asked her about it, she said there was no cavity and that was it; sent me on my way. I didn't like the breezy attitude- she didn't confer with the assistant (who was right btw) or seem concerned at all. I found another dentist who quickly addressed my cavity. iSmile is ok if you're looking for a doc-in-a-box approach to dental care. But I wouldn't recommend them for anything significant. read more

I have been going here for many years , and they have accepted my insurance each and every time and I never had a copay . At my last cleaning they told me I had a filling that had a tiny hole in it that needed to be "patched up".They said no rush whenever I can get back here to do it . Never telling me they have changed the way they bill my insurance. So I go on a few weeks later. I walk in they take me right away then after they are done patching my filling, they tell me I owe $493 dollars , I said for what I was sitting in the dentists chair for 8 minutes !!!! I told them I never pay anything out of pocket I have great health insurance; they admitted it was their fault that they did not explain to me but as of May 2021 they stopped accepting my insurance payout as the only payment . When the dentist told the receptionist just charge her what she always pays the receptionist told her she pays nothing . They promised to figure it and they would call me cause it was their mistake and 4 weeks later I get a Bill for $193! Without a phone call from them ever. I mean if I knew I would never have gone to get this patch work done that supposedly needed to be done . Secondly before the dentist did the patchwork on the filling she told me she saw a cavity on my X-rays and that we should do the cavity ,I asked her to show me on the X-ray and she point it out but there was nothing there , and I wasn't in pain, when I told her I don't really see anything she was like well that can wait , Cause you want to see how much your insurance will cover , I then told her I have full coverage with no copay my insurance covers everything, at that point she had the opportunity to tell me it didn't and she did not . That is not how you do business . If they tell you you have a cavity ask to see it on the X-ray !! And your insurance may fully cover a dentist just not this place they choose to upcharge apparently with alll insurances since may 2021. I specifically chose this dental plan because I had called the office to confirm that they fully accept it as they did for years . read more

I liked the service here so much that I referred my husband. Please note I only went here for X-rays and cleaning and that was good. But my husband had a terrible experience. He needed to have fillings done and when we inquired about pricing and what was covered by his insurance Ismile could not or would not give him any transparent answers. My experience will all other dentists I've been to is they send an inquiry to the insurance company so all people, insurance, dentist and patient are aware of costs. ISmile was incredibly difficult and every time my husband spoke to them the story was different regarding his benefits and how much was being used by ismile. Then he developed a terrible infection in his mouth and went in for an emergency visit. Ismile referred him to a specialist but again he wasn't informed of any fees and while he was waiting for info from ismile the infection got worse and he was in dire pain. I called ismiles emergency # and no one answered. I called again a few hours later and finally the emergency service spoke to the doctor and he got an appointment with a different specialists who was an hour away!! The specialist took care of his tooth infection after 4 visits. 4 visits to the other side of Brooklyn. It seemed very odd my husband never had a problem with his teeth for years till he went to ismile and we still do not understand the pricing. Apparently he used up all his benefits? I called to speak to the dentist and she has never called me back. He had to pay $1700 to the specialist. I will never recommend anyone to this dentist office again. read more

First of all - I want to start this off by saying I don't give reviews for anyone. Quote honestly, I have lost all faith in humanity, people generally suck and every business is out to f**k you over. Prior to using iSmile and Dr. Portman, I was using another dentist (who will remain unnamed), and honestly, this guy couldn't do shit. Every time I went for a cleaning, he would just shred apart my gums, every time i had a check up where he would use the hook to check for cavities, he would * unexpectedly * notice some damage to my teeth or to caps, and need to redo them, and for some reason, every time a crown fell off, he always had "better glue" the following time... basically, that fucker took me for a ride every single time... I guess it had to do with my insurance not really covering much, so most of the money was out of pocket. Basically, I was an ATM machine for that jerk. Since I started using iSmile dental, I no longer have these problems. Suddenly, I DON'T need 400 follow ups (you know.. all at more costs and expenses)... suddenly, i DIDN'T need to have to go back for crowns that fell out 3 weeks after they were set.. suddenly, i actually got professional service! Dr. Portman is a boss.. period. She is super sweet, professional, honest, doesn't look at me as a bankbook, and is very organized. She actually performs her work with such precision and care that she really has set the tone and standard for all other dentists like... Honestly, I will not go to another dentist.. period. I can't believe that a crown she put in for me last year is still holding!!! WTF!! My shady ass dentist that I had before must have used Elmer's Glue to hold my crown in because it couldn't have seems to last more than 3 weeks before it would fall out. Damn it man, I'm an attorney, and I can't be having all crooked, broken and missing teeth while trying to present in the court room! Long story short, Dr. Portman is awesome. Professional, her rates are reasonable, she is clean, knowledgeable and provides an awesome service. Really, she is the gold standard of dentists -- she is like the whey protein isolate versus all that other sh**ty protein they put in the cheap brands.. Hell, I'm even a fan of that bald headed office manager in there.. can't remember his name for the life of me (I have a bad short term memory, what can I say), but who can forget that shiny bald head? I came here on a Thursday afternoon. The receptionist greeted me with a smile. I filled out some paperwork and was seen almost immediately. The Nurse and Doctor were both really warm and inviting. The space is clean and comforting. I got a goodie bag at the end with a toothbrush, mouthwash, toothpaste, and floss All in all: Great staff Nice clean space Barely any wait time Splendid service My teeth are all nice and clean now :)!!! I don't often go online to write reviews, but in this case, really felt like good service needs to be praised. I've lived in Williamsburg for over 3 years now and have been WAITING for a good dentist. I've always been terrified of dentists and my old dentist (who I totally depended on) is far away. I've continued to go to him as I was really unhappy with the ones that I've tried here in the neighborhood when I first moved. I stopped by iSmile to see Dr. Rimma Portman and was immediately at ease. She has such a comforting/warm demeanor and made the whole experience very pleasant. She walked me through the whole process in advance so that I would know what to expect and at no point did I feel the usual anxiety that I feel when I'm in the chair. I've been going to another dentist for years. They weren't in my insurance network so I paid an arm and a leg for services. He also had giant man hands, which is not what you want in a dentist. When they estimated $560 out of pocket for 2 fillings and a deep cleaning, I knew it was time to look for another dentist. I found iSmile Dental on yelp. I wanted to see know how much it would be before committing to the switch. I emailed iSmile and Robert patiently assisted me over email (which was awesome since I was doing this at work). Their estimates were $184- huge savings since they were in my insurance network. He scheduled the appointment for me over email! They even worked with me on getting the x-rays from the other dentist so I didn't have to pay for another full set. I showed up for my filling and the receptionist was kind enough to offer me water. Dr. Portman knew me by name even though it was my first time there! She was not only gentle and friendly, but also wielded her tools like a rockstar. Both fillings done in 40 mins. Barely notice that it feels any different with my tongue. Next appointment: I showed up for the deep cleaning. Being so impressed by my previous visits, i brought my mother here. She had some work done and was told to come back for more, so I made an appointment for her on the 12th of June. She lives in a different continent and had to fly thousands of miles to see Dr Portman. I specifically asked that her file be reviewed from her previous visits in order for an accurate diagnosis be made so she could plan and estimate the duration of her stay and the treatment she would require. I was told it would be a 2 visit procedure and would be completed within 3 weeks. After spending thousands on a ticket, she arrives and is told it would be a 4 visit process spaced out. She doesnt live here and has to return back. The procedure would require her flying back and forth, thereby costing 4 airtickets totaling close to $10000 . This could have all been avoided had they actually looked at her file and given us an accurate diagnosis and time frame. I got to my appointment 40 minutes early so I enjoyed a nice cup of green tea while I filled out my paperwork. I was surprised that they offered me some tea, I felt like I was in there for a spa appointment, NOT for a dental cleaning! Nonetheless, it was a welcomed surprise since it was a very snowy afternoon. I am a first time patient since returning back to NY from living in Santiago, Chile and really needed to get a cleaning done. Dr. Portman was extremely approachable and answered all my questions especially since I started grinding my teeth. She was knowledgeable and could tell right away that I needed to use a mouth guard since I apparently do it in my sleep. I enjoyed the TMZ playing on the flatscreen as I sat in my chair waiting for my X-rays. I don't usually watch smut television but it was another nice little getaway from normalcy. As we went further into my bi-annual teeth cleaning, I asked about my snaggle tooth and about Invisalign. Dr. P walked me through the procedure and approximated less than a year for me! Totes exciting since I've been wanting to straighten my teeth without having to use braces AND since I am now a full time working actress. I like my snaggle teeth since it gives me character but Dr. Portman alerted me about a cavity forming since its a tough area to clean due to the positioning. I floss religiously but since its a bit crooked, its tough to get pieces of food in there. She was very practical and said that it was more of a health risk than an aesthetic thing. I totally agree with her and given my profession, it makes sense to fix my snaggle tooth. I had 2 cups of tea prior to the green tea I drank before being seen by Dr. P so I proceeded to use the loo. The bathroom smelled fresh and clean, always a great sign of the rest of the place. The examination rooms looked neat and well lit with what seemed to be ALL brand new equipment. I love the simple decor especially the sleek walls and furnishings (zebra printed upholstery on the waiting room chairs). The coat closet was clean and clutter free as I suited up to face the cold once again. If you're looking to get a hassle free dental visit, I would highly recommend a visit here.
