I said it's cold ( freezer cold) he said they put it in the fridge. So the salmon is baked then put in the fridge? I got silence and no answer. Other than that would take too long. This is the first time I received a cold baked salmon. So I question if anything is fresh if they fridge the baked salmon. Called to try and make a reservation. Told us that we can just come in and there shouldn't be a wait. Came in and was told it's a 10min wait ended up waiting 30mins. A little annoying but not too bad. The food- I ordered the "yummy yummy" roll and it was soaked the worst sushi I've ever had. I ate 2 pieces, only because I was thinking the 2nd bite MIGHT be better than the 1st. The tempura shrimp was cold and chewy like it was sitting there for hours before he used it for the roll. Place is legit. Cheap eats and the sashimi pieces were huge! My scallops tasted fresh. Everything there was well sized. I placed an order online for pickup, noticed it was incorrect and they fixed it on the spot, no fuss, nothing. This is the closest sushi place to my home and I was so excited when they opened! For the first 3 months or so, everything was spectacular. Sushi was fresh, hot food was plated well and delivered quickly, staff were attentive, counters were clean, and the manager and boss were always present. After this initial "babysitting" period, I noticed the manager and boss were no longer around to watch for quality and OH BOY did it decline quickly! Servers were young and had no clue about sushi, and the chefs were slapdash and messy with food quality and presentation. The fish no longer tasted or smelled fresh, and getting a refill for water/tea was impossible. My friends and I joked that we should just bring our own drinks since we were never going to get a refill and no one would notice as it was so hard to get the waitstaff's attention anyway. It's such a shame that this happened because this place has so much potential, and when upper management was around, it was so delicious! What a waste of gas. Arrived to a nearly empty restaurant, nicely (if unenthusiastically) greeted and shown to a table. We were given one menu and told they would try to find a second. The hostess/server then started on some other task. In the ten minutes we waited, a second menu was not provided, we were not offered a beverage, and there did not seem to be any orders being taken or prepared. We decided to leave - the only acknowledgement we received was the manager saying "sorry" as we walked out. He didn't ask us why or try to correct the situation. UPDATE: I decided to go back cuz I'm an idiot and was craving sushi. It was around 6:30pm and there was a total of 4 people there. The sushi that was out on the belt (not much) looked like it had been out for awhile. I ordered a salmon roe (I like the saltiness) and there was like, of puddle of the juices from the roe on the plate (never seen that before and I order these all the time) and after the first bite I had to spit it out. It had this really terrible taste to it and the whole thing fell apart. Not suppose to happen. A waitress walked by and asked how it everything was and I told her about how dissatisfied I was with the salmon roe. She asked if I wanted a replacement and I declined. She then said something in Spanish to the chef before the counter before walking away all together. At the end, I didn't want to cause a scene so I paid the $5 for that plate and left. This little somewhat-overlooked sushi spot just off the Maple Valley Highway in Renton is a personal favorite. They used to be a conveyor belt place, but ditched that idea a couple of years back and have evolved into a cozy and delightful mid-grade sushi bar with ample seating, a pleasant atmosphere, and amenities like a big screen TV (in case someone in your party cares about the game). The staff is somewhat knowledgeable and friendly, and the service is good. No, this is not sushi made by expert Japanese chefs, but if you are not expecting the $300-a-sitting stuff, then this is a top-grade place with a lot of good surprises. The type of place you could bring a date to ("I know a place") and nothing would detract from the evening. First of all, the servings are presented in a more traditional way, often on a ceramic platter or a bamboo tray. This especially comes to play with some of the "house specials" (some of which rotate) which are assembled with enough eye appeal to invoke an "Oh wow" when they come to the table. One of the best in this category is the salmon usu, which pairs the seared fish with onion, cilantro and mango with yuzu flavors for a poke-like or fusion experience, a real sharing dish. Second of all, the rice. It is always perfectly seasoned and cooked. It has been said that sushi restaurants live and die by their rice, which (after all) may be up to half of what you are eating. The rice here is NOT bland or mushy. It pairs expertly with the more subtle dishes, and holds its own with the more lively stuff. I've been to a lot of sushi places from Seattle to Vancouver to San Francisco, and this place has the best rice around. They know what they are doing. A few more honorable mentions of favorite dishes then I'll get out of your face. The tempura oyster appetizer is 3 perfectly-cooked big, plump oysters paired with a dish of katsu sauce for dipping. This is a must-have. The oysters are not those sad little dried up things you can usually expect in some Asian places, but taste like Quilcene mediums. Very plump & juicy, and if you order them when the place isn't crowded they'll be perfect, with the tempura giving just the right amount of resistance (too subtle to call it "crunch") before the whole things dissolves into a rich, delicious goo into your mouth. Do a temperature check before biting into one (they usually come piping hot) and don't try to eat half of one or you might end up with hot oyster running down your chin. Ever since losing the belt, everything you order is "whole roll," which means 8 pieces. One of these per person is a good idea, so you can get a good variety if you come here on a double date - that plus one or two orders of nigiri or maki per person makes a satisfying meal. And the rolls are sensibly constructed, which means not everything is smothered in mayo or that tempura crumb bric-a-brac. The spicy rolls, like spicy tuna or spicy California, are understated in their spiciness level, allowing that yummy rice to still shine through. Yes, you can get dragon rolls and dynamite rolls, it's just that these do not outshine the simpler rolls on the menu, because this place pays attention to details in the simpler dishes, as they should. The nigiri sushi is always good. This is one of the few restaurants of this grade where I'll dare order hotate (scallop) because most places do not understand this simple seafood, and offer something tough and tasteless. Isushi's is always buttery, fresh, and sweet. Other favorites on the nigiri menu are red snapper - another overlooked fish in some places - and of course salmon, a local favorite for the Seattle area. When I've ordered nigiri here, the pieces are generous and sliced oblique to the grain, in the correct manner to preserve the texture. The maki is not to be overlooked. Probably the best overall item on the menu is the oshinko maki (which they call "osinko" here). Don't pass this up. The "pickled" radish is neither salty nor vinegary, but fresh and crunchy with just enough snap. Paired with the flaky-chewy seaweed and some of that heavenly rice, the result is irresistible. I always order these, as my friends (who I bring in to "discover" the place) aren't usually familiar with them, but once they taste them they disappear like popcorn. Very few things detract here. In keeping with their re-imaging as a "classier" sushi place, Isushi offers Omakase, which are assortments presumably like you would order in those $300 a pop places. I usually avoid these since I generally know what I am after when I walk in, but I might someday try one here to see what philosophy they might offer from their sensibly limited menu. I wouldn't expect anything exotic, since that isn't what this place is about. And of course you can't get an assortment of rolls, which might put some people off (but not me). Also, some items - which are usually understood to be rare or seasonal - might be listed as sold out. These occurences should be understood. read more

We have bwen won over for so many reasons that I can literally come up with a top 10 list of reasons why we will never go back to those other places that we have been going for over the last ten years. 1. I frequent sushi restaurants often, both menu and conveyor, and was excited when my friends moved into the apartments behind this location. It's conveniently located just off of the Maple Valley Hwy and has a good amount of private lot parking. The interior is very modern, clean, and organized and it had all of the things I typically enjoy so I was optimistic after reading what others had to say in their reviews. Unfortunately my experience didn't match up to my expectations. Our salmon and tuna nigiri was slightly warm and didn't taste very fresh. My agedashi tofu, something I always order and like to use to compare quality, was not pleasant in both texture and flavor and I couldn't finish it. We were happy with the beef udon and miso soup and I enjoyed the selection of assorted beverages offered both on the menu and on the belt. 3 stars for the beautiful, clean store and friendly employees, however I probably won't return any time soon. read more
