This burger joint is the shizn-IT. All the rave reviews about IT Char is true. Verified delicious. I discovered this little hole in the wall based on top Yelp recommendations. The hype is real folks, these burgers are packed full of flavor. There's a lot I like about this place. First of all it's Korean owned, and them Koreans know their beef and how to grill em. Second, it's affordable good burger, you'll spend less than $9 for a solid 10/10 burger. Third, no one knows about this place so there aren't any cray cray lineups. Fourth the owners are super friendly, no judgey or mopey looks here! Fifth, my God these burgers are so damn good. Tender, meaty, and smokey. Wow, what an odd mall this place is in. The flooring is paving stones that look like they should belong outside and the whole mall surroundings look a bit like a spaceship straight out of Kubrick's version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. But, I digress. You didn't come here to read about mall interior design. The burger and fries here are excellent. Ordered the spicy BBQ burger combo. The bun was nicely toasted, the caramelized onions were sweet/savory, and the jalapeno peppers added some good heat. The accompanying fries were crispy, freshly made, and delicious. Everything was freshly made on the spot and while the food didn't come out instantly, I didn't mind one bit. Based on a trusted friend's recommendation, my wife and I tried IT Char Burger this weekend. First, the breakdown of the 4-star review: Food: Outstanding Service / People: A pleasure Atmosphere: If you took your parents here, or a date, they'd think you were pranking them. It's literally a foodcourt stall, in one of the quietest, saddest, most-hidden, least-known little malls in the lower mainland. The food may be awesome, but the setting definitely limits the appropriate occasions to "dine" here. Onto the goodness. After a discussion about Mooyah Burger in North Van, our friend said "if you like that, you need to try IT Burger," and he told me where it was. Miraculously I'd been in that mall before, but otherwise I would have had trouble finding it even if I knew where to go. Essentially, at McBride and 8th, go into what you think is BC Liquor, and then you'll find yourself inside a tiny hidden mall. Keep walking. Depending on time of day, you may assume nothing is even there, but IT Burger is there and waiting for you. First, the fries. They're hand cut, wonderfully seasoned, and simply amazing. Then the burgers. I had their signature item, the I:T Char Burger (as the menu spells it), and my wife had the Korean Spicy Burger. Both were really good. The IT Char Burger is essentially a double cheeseburger. The beef is good quality, with thick hand-formed patties. They're not skimpy with the fixings and condiments, and really, if I had any complaints at all, it's that there's so much going on here that you're going to have a big sloppy mess in your hands halfway through it. And sometimes . . . that's just right. The Korean Spicy Burger is a single-patty hamburger seasoned with Korean Gochujang pepper sauce. The flavour combination is a good one, and really satisfying. The menu also includes a lot of other Korean/Canadian fusion dishes (along with, inscrutably, butter chicken and fish & chips, but I wonder if those are symptoms of the establishment's dual role as sort of the "cafeteria" for the businesses in the second storey of the mall). I'm curious to try some of the other burgers. But, on the note that I started the review with, you're pairing one of the better burgers and fries in the lower mainland with a canned pop, a single thin Kleenex-like paper napkin (definitely inadequate given the messiness of the burgers), and a slightly depressing foodcourt atmosphere with no music or TV or even any other human beings whatsoever, and the whole experience is a little hard to wrap up in a holistic 1-5 rating. DEFINITELY reroute your McDonald's craving here. And it's great for carryout. But I'm not sure how many other dining situations can make the leap. read more

I have been coming here for about 5ish years now, and the quality of the food and service has always been superb. Excellent family-run restaurant that has never failed to produce delicious meals every time I have been. Before going to IT Burger, I would always have my burgers plain; just meat, cheese and bun. This little hidden gem is one of our favorite burger spots in BC. Located in a small shopping mall, the stand has some of best made burgers around and they are super CHEAP. Great place to go when in a pinch. Only downside is it's hard to find if you've never been around the area. Requires you to park and walk inside the mall area to find it - it's not viewable from the street. read more

Wonderful surprise! I've been living close to the mall (2 blocks) where it's located for more than 35 years , but never tried their burgers. They were delicious, juicy, nice char, and yummy condiments. I will be back for sure, and next time will try their homemade fries. Ok.....I love me burgers and have em a lot. I have little hole in the wall/mom n pop places all over the lower mainland in my phone. I was in New West and opened Yelp up to see what's up! IT Char Burger!! The wife? Had a nice smile on her face and I ordered the IT burger....seems like it's their signature burger/item on their menu. Again, I have a lot of burgers and won't normally order em' blindly because they can just plain old suck balls!!! (Disgusting frzn patties etc.) Damn.....this burger was good!! Fries....fantastic! With a pop $11+ out the door. Just wish it was a brick n mortar restaurant! i always have a great experience here. great food. my boyfriend says its the best burgers hes ever had. i also think its the best fries i've ever had. I will say though if you are ordering hot dogs or burgers to make sure you tell them what you want on them. I expected plain hot dogs due to allergy, and assumed i'd get plain because they always come plain, but unfortunately today I ordered two hot dogs and didnt mention any specifcs and got home and realized they were drenched in relish onions and mustard. Do to allergy I had to throw them both away and ended up wasting 8 bucks or so. :( i'm not sure if its my fault for not mentioning it (i usually dont) or their fault for not asking what i want on my hot dog. Cheap quick lunch in New West. I came here for a bit before the Gaming expo. The burger was a slight step up from Fast Food, however, nothing gourmet. I was extremely skeptical about eating here as the presentation appears to be very mom and pop. But as it turns out it is operated by a low key Korean couple with their two kids doing their homework on one of the tables at the food court. I felt kind of bad walking away and ended up ordering their char burger and a BBQ burger for one of my friends. The patties had decent flavour presumably Korean seasoning. I usually visit It Char Burger once a while to have a burger or two and it is always satisfactory. I can get a combo, which includes a burger, fries, and a drink with less than $7.00. Also, i can get a dish such as bulgogi, butter chicken, or a chicken noodle and a drink with less than $10.00. I think the price is decent and it will be really worth going here instead of going to mcdonald to get a bic mac or something, cause obviously the food here will be healthier than the ones in mac. Anyway, even though it is located in a place where not many people really visit, but if i were to visit somewhere around it char burger, i would visit there and get a lunch. A jewel of a place with the friendliest staff but best of all, some of the best burgers and fries you will ever get for the price. I took my son, visiting from the States and a burger fanatic, to It Char and he was amazed. We went back the next day. The Bulgogi is generous and an ideal to-go item. Freshly prepared greasy spoon food. Hits the spot. You'll need the extra napkins. Hard working chef clearly knows what he's doing. All ingredients hand prepared and cooked to perfection. He took orders and did cooking--we were served quickly (early Saturday dinner), but I can see how it could be a little slow if it gets busy with only 1 employee. These are the BEST BURGERS in New Westminster BAR NONE!!!! Real meat, real fries (not the prefab frozen ones you get at most places. People like to call them 'home fries'. I think they should be called 'real fries! All the food is made fresh and to order on a real flame broiling BBQ grill. So don't expect your food in 2 mins. There's one guy working here and this isn't McDonald's. The regular burger is 3 oz and for some people it may be too small but the burger and fries was the right portion for me. The comments about difficulty trying to find it is correct. There are few signs as Royal Square is a tiny nondescript mall. But I'll be back. It's always feels good to support a mom and pop place. Ordered a cheese burger - asked for pickles and mustard, subtract the relish. The pictures used for marketing are far different than what you get. My burger was very small and over compensated with a bun. Way too much mayo mixed with the mustard - this dripped out with each bite and was quite gross. The pickles were sparse and onions almost non-existent. It was a small burger comparable in price to McDonald's but home-made. I would not go back anytime soon. Wasn't wowed and found his attitude on the cranky, rushed side. He's of Asian decent and attempting to make a go of western foods.
