It seems as if most of the restaurants around KM lack on service as many high school kids are employed there. I needed sauce for my 4-piece. The "sweet tartar sauce" pump wasn't there. I asked the girl at the counter if they were out of it and she rolled her eyes and said they have to-go packets. Now I, too, was irritated. I didn't ask so that I could know what their inventory level was like. So I asked for some. She got me two, and seemed so inconvenienced. It was worth the trouble, though. I like tartar sauce and sweet relish. I'd come back with very much lowered expectations regarding service. The food was what kept it with 3 stars. PS: The cole slaw is delicious. read more

Now I'm sure that 50 to 60 years ago, Ivar's was the best fish n' chips you could buy in the northwest however times have changed. What hasn't changed is the traditional recipes and the quality of which the Ivar's restaurants provide. Their ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. I know for a fact because I actually used to deliver the fish to the restaurants. It doesn't matter what location you visit, the standards are high at all of them. Sure you can get a more modern experience and more modern recipes at many new establishments these days but if you're in the mood for that nostalgic traditional flavor of the Puget Sound, Ivar's is a winning bet every time. There are other places to get fish & chips, but nobody combines quality seafood options and a classy dining experience with deep-fried 'this can't be good for me' and terrible puns like Ivar's. These guys are a couple bucks more then some of the competition, but it's well worthwhile. The clam chowder is award-winning, the fish & chips come in several varieties (as opposed to just "fish", and you guess it's probably cod), and the menu has enough variety to accommodate a whole family of picky eaters. This Ivar's in particular seems to be putting extra effort into customer service - they'll deliver the food to your table, take care of your trays for you after, and seem to actually be interested in the customers instead of just punching a time-clock. read more

I ordered clams and chips. When I got home and opened the bag they had given me baby prawns and chips. Last time I went there I ordered their caesar salad with salmon. When I got home half of the lettuce was wilted and brown and I had to throw it away and eat something else for lunch. This Ivars has run out of chances. I won't be back. read more

The food is decent however the time it takes to get it is stupidly ridiculous!!! Takes almost an hour for just two small orders!

I brought in a friend visiting from DC. I loved this place because the man that's always there is usually so friendly. That was not the case this time. It was about 30 minutes before closing. I was so happy to bring him there. The man didn't greet me, I walked in first. My friend was happily taking pictures of the sign outside and self is with the building. I placed my order. He was usually very dry. My friend came in with a huge smile. I explained to him the menu and what was best. The worker looked so annoyed that it was taking him so long. I told him what I'd gotten and he had never had clam chowder. Everyone knows that Ivars has the best in the world. The worker did let him try, that's why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. After my friend ordered, and then took pictures of the the kite inside and menu on the wall. He tried to make small talk with both me and the man that's always working the cash register. He asked if he'd seen Sleepless in Seattle, the worker goes, "Nobody cares," in a MEAN way. And then walked into the back. He came back after my food was done and asked how many ketchup and tartar. I said," I'll take a ketchup and two tartars". He tilts his head to the side shaking it with Lips purched as to say Come On, and goes "Uhm.. yea.. HOW many ketchups?" I told him rudely back that I said I will take A ketchup, with the number 1. I usually like them. The best one is Federal Way. This Kent one should have better customer service for the price. This rating is based solely on the food. It's good! The go-to order is a 3 piece fish w/ fries, a side order of shrimp and clam chowder. I've tried both chowders and you can't go wrong with either one. I've tried different items on the menu and for quick seafood, everything has been delicious. I was so happy we found this seafood stand in Mukilteo! We got our food and walked over to the park so we could eat while admiring the gorgeous Puget Sound and watch the ferry boats come and go. Excellent experience. Hands down the best time I've had on our trip. read more

My boyfriend and I went in here together on a Wednesday afternoon. The gentleman at the front counter was very friendly, and patient. It was our first time so we had no clue in what to order. We ended up getting a cup of chowder, and bread bowl of chowder, and fish and chips. Everything was great. The chowder was almost as good if not better than dukes. I have been a long time client at Ivar's. I have eaten at just about all Ivar's in the Pacific Northwest and the Kent Ivar's is the very best! You can always tell there the best because they always have a line of customers out the door! My food is always severed in a timely manner alway fresh and delicious! The servers the cashiers the cooks always have a smile on there faces as if they like there job! I really appreciate that too. I really want them to keep up the good work and never change! Sometimes businesses get a new owner or supervisor who comes in and tries to "cut costs" for the sake of the company but detrimental to the food & clients. Worst experience EVER tonight. We arrived for our curbside pick up at the designated time. We called them as instructed, gave them a description of our car and our name. The person located our order and said they were running a bit late. An HOUR later, still no food, so my husband went in to see what was taking so long. Our order had been sitting there the whole time!! They said they were waiting for us to call them!! Not only was our food cold by then, but we got home to discover that part of our order was missing, We had out of town company visiting and the whole night was ruined because of this! This place really is as good as it gets! The service at this particular Ivar's is nothing short of phenomenal. Paul and the entire staff who work there do their very best to make sure that everyone who walks through the doors leaves with a smile. The customer service and amount of respect shown in this establishment is spot on. Not only the way the staff interacts with the customers but even the staff to staff interactions are always upbeat friendly, and the most important part everyone seems to WANT to be there. This is NOT your typical fast food joint! It truly sets the bar. This Ivar's really wants your service, and works very hard to see that they create a satisfied customer EVERYTIME. One of the workers, Paul, always trys to greet everyone by name, and i don't know how he does it! On only my second visit, (and although it was some great deal apart from the first one), he had greeted me at the counter by name! That is pretty amazing. Even high class restaurants and formal venues could teach their staff a thing or two about customer service just by taking a quick field trip to this great establishment. The food is great too, but its the service that really blows me away every time, as you just don't find that anymore! You really do walk away from the restaurant feeling like a million bucks! Sadness. I'm on a ketogenic diet. I eat salmon with salad often at home and at various restaurants. I went in and ordered grilled salmon with ceasar salad. Salmon tasted too fishy, unfresh, overcooked. Blown away by the quality of the dungess crab cocktail I ordered as an appetizer. DRY crab meat over cocktail sauce and salary. The service was great- everyone was happy and had a smile for us. It looks like a family run restaurant since there was a young boy working the counter who totally reminded me of my childhood working in my folks restaurant. Everything tasted fine and the chowder was divine. They're running some kind of sale on their chowder... $0.75 for the cup, forgot how much a bowl was, and $3 for the tanker which is BIG. This evening I went to Ivars , in Kent I wanted to call my order in advance but they didn't pick up so I went inside there was several people waiting I ordered and I explained to him that I had tried to call he said they didn't pick up because they were just too busy so anyway as I was waiting there were several people that ordered and there was a few people in front of me and the guy at the cashier for senior citizen told one of the customers they only give one stamp per person and I said that wasn't true he had placed a big order and I had asked him to stamp my card he told the man can't do that! Without even asking someone so I spoke up and the other person came over and told him this is what you do every time you get an order and it's a stamp there was a lady waiting there at least five minutes before I walked in she just ordered clam chowder she was there 15 minutes they had forgot about her I have never seen such chaos in this place I have been coming here for years this person needs to be re-trained on how to deal with clients and customer service I will be calling the manager in the morning.Shrimp Basket read more

This is a nice location. The clam chowder is really good. There were only three employees on staff and it got busy. But they were super kind the food was delicious. Sad thing the soda machine died and would not reboot. But again the employees kept calm kept the customer service awesome. They were inspiring to watch. We had a $5 entertainment book coupon so we took our family. (6 & 8 year old boy, me and my wife). Not too high of expectation being a chain and on the Kent hill area. Peachy our server bent over backwards for our family to go ABOVE AND BEYOND average service. She noticed our varying family tastes and mentioned we could sub a couple pieces of chicken and salmon along with the traditional cod in the basket. She also was able to split up the bowl of chowder for the whole family rather than just giving us a vat of it with 4 bowls to split it ourselves. She even walked it out to the table herself to serve us. This was all done swiftly, professionally, and with a heart of "pay it forward" service. I wouldn't have thought to come back again without a coupon, but with the glow that our family left with today, we will be revisiting when we need some nice hot NW Ivars grub.
