On a cold day, there's honestly nothing better than a bowl of soup. And here in the PNW, that would always have to be clam chowder. In a bread bowl. No exceptions. You know how hard it seems to be to find a bread bowl? I understand that its more expensive to produce and maintain on the menu, but at the same time? It shouldn't be that hard to provide to your customers. After looking around and trying a few difference places in an attempt to find what we needed, my fiancee and I finally ended up at Ivar's. I should note, however, she wanted someone to serve us and not a "fast food" type of place. Yup, she protested quite a few times. When we got there, finally, our counter person was super awesome and had a great suggestion for how we could get the same intended food and get a little extra bang for our buck (combo meal so we could get some clam strips and save a little on our second drink). That, I love. As to the food? There's a reason why Ivar's is a Northwestern institution. The food is always fresh, they use great local ingredients, and you're going to get the same quality if you're in the food court at Northgate as you are in Mukilteo, Downtown, or in Kent. Sure, there might be different atmospheres and audiences, but the food is always that great quality and served in hot plentiful portions. The bread bowls we got should have been more than enough, but we had to have some clam strips on the side and boy oh boy were they spot on. My other half is from Baltimore, Maryland where they KNOW chowder and I think this is the quietest I've seen her! Because if she talked at all? She wouldn't have been able to eat! Always loved Ivars, only four stars due to long wait times. But that's only when they are busy.

This is my favorite Ivar's location out of all of the locations. The staff here are always so friendly. They keep the place pretty clean. I've never had to wait too long for my food. They'll even bring your food to your table, check up on you to see if you need anything, and ask if everything tastes ok. When they were out of saltine crackers they apologized and told every customer that came in the duration I was there. I love their soda machine for you to pick your soda and flavors. One downside is on more than one occasion their for here sauce dispenser had been empty. Of course you can always ask for the condiments up front, but those ready packed containers don't have the sweet tartar. White clam chowder will always be my go to. Sometimes a tanker isn't even enough to satisfy the family! When I moved away I tried clam chowder from many places from high end to low end seafood places and Ivar's will always have my heart. I have to get the ones in the restaurants too because for some reason the packaged Ivar's chowder from Costco must have something that makes me break out if hives. I stopped by for take out. I went inside ordered and paid. I was told my order would be delivered to my car. Several (5) other customer were in the restaurant. I was the only person wearing a mask except for the one employee taking orders out to cars. I ordered 2 entrees of the 5 piece true cod.2 cups of chowder a coleslaw and 2 drinks. I waited in the car 20 minutes watching orders come out and none mine. After 25 minutes I went in to find out my cooked order was sitting awaiting someone to make coleslaw. I would have to wait another 20-30 minutes. As the employee handed my food bags to me. I was told to " go ahead and eat we'll bring out the coleslaw. I was not planning on parking lot dining. upset that my food was not hot and had sat over 35 minutes and I'm just leaving the restaurant. Without the coleslaw or my money! Frustrating! Ivar's is a favorite and I can only be upset with the employees with lousy customer service. I love ivars, I used to work at ivar's. This store is just the worst. I called in my order because I saw a long line and figured it would be faster to order by phone and then go in and pay. I was told 25 minutes understandable I saw the line I waited about 15 minutes and then went in little did I know I could have spent the entire 25 minutes in line there was only three people in front of me. The lady at the counter was slow as molasses, she couldn't hear what the people were ordering and had to repeat everything three or four times, and then after taking the order spent 5 minutes per person writing who knows what on the receipt before she handed it back to the Cook and then stood there and waited for the cook to take the receipt so she could explain what she had just spent 5 minutes writing. My food was ready and sitting on the counter when I walked in which means it's sat on the counter for 15 more minutes while she helped the three people in front of me who only ordered individual meals it took 15 minutes to place three orders. Now I sit in my car with cold clam chowder and cold food and there's no way I would ask for them to make it fresh or reheat it because I don't have another 30 minutes to wait. the person who took my order and that was handing out the orders that weren't ready was basically just standing there putting tartar sauce on random trays waiting for orders. He could have pushed that lady out of the way and taken all of the orders in one sitting I'm sure he was more than capable. Walked in here looking for a quick dinner around 8:30 PM and since they don't close until 9, we thought it was okay to eat in. However, we walked in and no one was at the counter. We waited five minutes and even if that doesn't sound like a long time, it was a long time to wait for someone to get our FAST FOOD order. And yet no one showed up. They couldn't have been in the back of the kitchen cooking because we were practically the only customers in this shop. Withholding the urge to yell impatiently for customer service and risk them spitting in our food for giving them a hard time with only a half hour left on their clock, we just walked out and ate somewhere else. Seriously, if you're not going to serve anyone at 8:30, you might as well close at 8:30 instead of 9. I do enjoy an Ivar's meal, but I definitely will not be having it at this location. read more

Great location! I took my daughters on our way to run some errands and discovered that we will be returning again. The location is nicely set up. There is a lot of seating. It's very welcoming. The staff is wonderful. I wish I had got the name of the guy who helped us because he went above and beyond what I've ever had at a fast food establishment. They have a great kids area because as we all know, the attention span of kids can be short. The train table kept my girls entertained while waiting for their food. The food was delicious. Amazing!! Kudos to Helen, Kerry and the rest of the crew tonight. I used to work for Ivars, so you know it is good if I came back. My mom's birthday was today and she wanted to go to Ivar's. I called and spoke to Kerry and he assured me he could accomodate our party of 15 at 6 no problem. I called again the day of and he told me that Helen had set up a small area and put reserved down on the tables so we could all sit together. Helen took our orders quickly and efficiently and you wouldn't believe the new soda machine so AWESOME Diet Raspberry Coke!! Our food was hot and tasty and served quickly. They kept checking on us and deivered our food and cleaned our area. Towards the end of the party, Kerry found a candle and brought my mom a piece of cake (actually he gave it to me as it was my party) and helped us sing happy birthday. This crew went above and beyond from reserving our tables, the quality of food, the service, and the comfortable inviting atmosphere.
