A regional chain like this one is pretty predictable and formulaic, much like most Chinese food in this country. That makes it kind of hard to really review. There isn't much that sets this "Mexican restaurant tweaked for the gabacho palate" apart from any other. There is three other Mexican offerings in Silverton: Los Girasoles and a taco truck next to Subway whose name escapes me are the two that are more authentic, but some people might find them too exotic. Also they both have hours better suited to the lunch crowd and neither has a full bar. If what you want is "regular" Mexican food or what some people might call "Tex-Mex", then you want either Ixtapa or el Toro. El Toro has weird hours and I far prefer both the food and servcie at Ixtapa. Consider trying the chicken mole. Mole is a sweet gravy, sometimes made with chocolate. Chocolate gravy? Don't knock it, it can be delicious. It's not good everywhere, a lot of Mexican places have a really bland mole. But chicken mole is excellent at Ixtapa. Picture this: chicken, salty, chocolaty, spicy, all at the same time. My wife calls it "food for when I'm on my period." read more

We were looking for good Mexican food and definitely found it here! The food was amazing...from burritos to chimichangas (and many more choices), and the margaritas were some of the best I've had. The biggest plus, though, was the amazing service! Definitely a solid dinner spot. read more

After searching for several minutes we finally found a few pieces of meat in the fajitas.. $22 dollars for that dish! This is the kind of place that takes advantage of people that don't know Mexican food. It's expensive and the food wasn't worth it. Terrible.. Got chalupa with sour cream and guacamole with ground beef. No rice/beans included all for 8.65 at lunch. Consisted of a fried flour tortilla, some beef and chopped iceburg lettuce with a dallop of guac and s.cream. and maybie a little cheese. Could have gotten the exact same thing with beans at taco Bell for a few dollars cheaper and not have to pay a tip. Tasted ok but felt ripped off. read more

We are fortunate to have three great Mexican food options in town, and this is my family's favorite! We come here often. Good prices. Daily food and drink special always sound good for a great price. A group of 5 visited Ixtapa on 8/16/20 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We ordered drinks and ordered 5 meals. I requested the special. I was informed the special was for lunch and hadn't been removed from the board. I asked them to honor the special and the waitress refused. My understanding is if a price is posted you need to honor the posted price. I asked to speak to the manager, the waitress refused. She stated, "I'm his daughter and he'll support my decision." Our tab was over $65. I asked to speak to her Dad and she said he wasn't there because "his Mom died". I was sorry to hear of his loss. She told me, "just leave and don't bother to come back". While we were finishing our meal she came back to the table and asked for our tab back. I said, "oh no, it's ok we're happy to pay our bill. We paid our bill and left. I waited 2 weeks and went to speak to the manager. Again, she appeared. She stated he wasn't in. She told me to come back Tuesday. I said, "actually I want to make sure she and I were ok. She said, "we're not, and please don't ever come back"! WOW! I never raised my voice, spoke disrespectful or anything to deserve her "attitude". To be fair, the food was delicious. It's hard to enjoy good food when your waitress has a bad attitude. I hope the owner reads this and realizes she's running off customers. read more

Ate here yesterday for lunch. I ordered the Carne Asada (a weakness of mine, for sure), and a side enchilada. It was quite good, and the food came out promptly. The steak was a little overcooked though. I'm not one of those people who usually sends food back, but other than that it was really good. The enchilada sauce was actually pretty amazing, I should have ordered a full order of that. Staff was friendly, would definitely eat here again. Shocked at the charge for one plain cheese quesadilla to go. $9.45. To go! Think about it. Cheese and a tortilla. $0.85 at best! And they used orange cheese instead of the white Mexican cheese. We also ordered two (very) small black bean and rice burritos and they were each $4.00! Again, this was a TO GO order. Nothing extra, nothing special in the packaging. VERY DISAPPOINTED. After a day tasting wine and my driving my buddy from So Cal thru Oregon farm country we headed towards our room at the Oregon Garden Resort. It was about 3:30 and we'd skipped lunch and we're hungry. So we spotted this very traditional looking Mexican Restaurant and impulsively dropped in. A couple of Coronas and a chicken tostada each was the perfect late lunch. Food was excellent tho we both requested no cilantro as it states like soap to both of us. Maybe I'm more sensitive to in because the slight amount in the salsa turned me off. It's a genetic thing though no one believes it. We had very good service. The bill was less than $25. And we left not full but no longer hungry. Come dinner time both of us we're still sort of full of the tostada so we just skipped dinner! If I lived in the Silverton area I'm sure this would be my go to local for traditional Mexican. Enjoy?? read more

We love Ixtapa!!! Silverton is so lucky to have such great Mexican food right in town! Margaritas are on point, beer is always frosty, and the sopitos are homemade and fluffy and crispy all at the same time. So delicious. read more

Wow! Best salsa in the Willamette Valley! Best Carnitas de Pollo ever! Love eating at Ixtapa, especially in the cantina when games are on. Every time I come back to Silverton for a visit I make sure to plan a meal here. The only thing that could make this experience even better is handmade tortillas. I've eaten at this Ixtapa many times and never been disappointed! The food is hot, tasty, plentiful and the wait staff is pleasant and attentive. I actually go out of my way to eat here if I'm anywhere in the Silverton area. The "finish" of a little tortilla/strawberry syrup, whipped cream complimentary dessert is special! I visited this Resturant much in my youth as it was the best Mexican place in Silverton. I am sad to report that it has gone majorly downhill since then in terms of incredibly slow service and inattentiveness to orders. We simply ordered a taco with with CHICKEN and an Ixtapa Burrito with BEEF. We then received after about 15 minutes a Taco Salad with BEEF and a burrito with CHICKEN. We've been going to Silverton's Ixtapa restaurant for years. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and the service is usually quick. Recently, we were there when they were really busy and somehow our order was overlooked. When one of our group mentioned we'd been waiting longer than usual, they got right on it and soon we had our food. When we ordered dessert, the owner said the desserts were free in order to compensate for the long wait. We weren't unhappy and hadn't expected anything like that. Last 3 times we have been there, food took twice as long as normal, very poor service, the food quality has declined.. yesterday I ordered a med steak ..it came out well done after waiting 45 min..they replaced it but I had to wave down the wait person and then had to get it to go..When I was able to eat it, It very too rare, not med!! This place was referred to us by two locals. The best thing to say about it is the pleasant staff and ultra quick service. My husband had a taco salad with shredded beef; I had the deluxe avocado tostada with chicken. Both were boring and bland and we were surprised that neither one came with beans; unusual in our experience. To top it off, I had pieces of chicken that were pink. Two of the waitstaff tried to reassure me that the chicken was fully cooked and it was just that the pieces I saw were too close to the bone. That's possible, but I don't eat pink chicken at home, so I certainly wasn't going to eat it there. Also, I have never had pink chicken in a restaurant before; Mexican food, or otherwise. We were also told about another Mexican restaurant closer to town, but chose this one per the recommendations. Poor choice. Would not return. read more

Sadly this was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. My husband, mother, and father all felt the same. The dessert was the only thing worth stomaching. We tried it twice to make sure it wasn't just a bad meal on one occasion and both times it was very disappointing. Ixtapa is what it is as far as food goes. The brightest star here is the service. I wish I knew the waiter's name... He is the best waiter in town and I don't think the man has had a day off in 10 years. We have invaded them with 20 people with no notice and we are greeted by smiles, fair prices, and hot food. Will never eat at this establishment! They had a customer in there eating, left his Boxer in pickup right in front of building, 90 degrees outside. They refused to call police because "it isn't our problem". I told them it was their problem because he was eating in their restaurant and parked in front of their store. They still claimed it wasn't their concern...too concerned to get his business apparently. I called police and the man was reprimanded! Way to go Ixapta! You are worthless! read more

Ate there for dinner. The food isn't bad, it's just boring. It's what I call "white people Mexican food". They gave us mild and "hot" salsa.....I couldn't taste any difference between the two. Spicy never showed up while I was there. Taco Bell might even be spicier. Nice family run business, but with a large local Hispanic population, I'll keep looking for where THEY eat. read more

Stay away, I was served a burrito with a chicken bone in it! Then when I brought it to the staffs attention I was told thats just how chicken is, that they get the chicken that way and there is just no way they can guarantee that there wont be any bones in a chicken dish. Great food, service and atmosphere! The salsa is fresh and delicious-perfect spice level and the chips were crispy and warm. I ordered a Mango margarita and was pleasantly surprised it had a kick to it. The chicken fajitas were sizzling, well seasoned and tasty! I loved my waitress-she was very friendly, funny, and warm. The busboys cleared my table quickly and everyone was polite and attentive. I will definitely be back on my travels to Silverton! read more
