We were trying to go to Sushi Den but we ended up here...I think. I'm still not sure. Are they the same restaurant? Different? Regardless, it was one of the two. The one we ended up in was gorgeous. A truly beautiful restaurant. Most of the sushi we had was top-notch amazing. Specifically, the poke roll and the vegetable tempura roll. The batter was so light and fluffy. I've had dreams about it since. I also like the seared tuna sushi. It fell a little flat with the regular tuna and salmon sushi. The cut of tuna made it a little chewy and tough. Also, the salmon had very little flavor and the it was a served a little too cold. However, everything else was delicious and we will 100% be back and hopefully, we'll find the other as well :) read more

i am from Los Angeles and have been to some of the best places there and this is up to par with those. Everything was very fresh and good quality. the restaurant was really nicely decorated with a great ambiance. we had a variety off things, like the shishito peppers, brussel sprouts with pork belly, seared wagu beef, yellowtail with jalapenos and at least 3 different rolls. everything was delicious. they also had a very nice wine selection. will definitely be going back to satisfy my sushi cravings. read more

Was told I had to go here so I made a reservation for my fiance and I to go for Valentines Day 2 weeks in advance. I had glanced at the menu online a few months ago and remembered seeing how beautiful the restaurant was and how I really wanted to find some good sashimi in Denver. We got there early and we seated immediately... right by the door at a very small 2 top table. Our host was very casual, pleasant, but looked like someone out of a video by The Cure. At first we were not entirely sure that he worked there... Our waitress was very kind and attentive and was full of suggestions. One thing that turned me off was when I ordered some sushi, she asked if I wanted it Nigiri or Sashimi, I looked at her slightly crossed and said, nigiri, she replied " with rice"... I had to roll my eyes a little. I know I look white as hell but I am 1/4 Japanese and was raised in a post war Japanese household hahaha. Sushi ( with rice) is nigiri, don't ask. I also ordered a glass of plum wine and she just looked at me for a minute.. and said, by itself? Yes plum wine.. in a glass. I was slightly confused with all these intense long glances and strange questions. I was a little disappointed that they were out of a few things that I tried to order, but the server was quick to offer up a suggestion. The menu seemed very small and they did not have as many seafood options as you would think. We ordered a couple plates and some sushi totaling about $175. There is no doubt that the quality was good, authentic Japanese styles and flavors were present, but it was a little pricey. Dessert was good, Japanese style cheese custard cakes, we ordered the pineapple upside down cake that came with a scoop of lychee ice cream. Will go again.. maybe if someone is here from out of town and craving good Japanese cuisine. read more

I have been to Izakaya Den twice in the last two weeks and usually visit at least once a quarter. Consistently delicious and very fresh. The menu is creative and inventive but also comforting with the regular sushi staples. The seared toro is out of this world. This is a great spot for a special dinner or (expensive) happy hour. The host desk could be a little more pleasant but the food more than makes up for it. read more

I went to Izakaya Den with my boyfriend (both of us first timers) on a Wednesday evening and was immediately impressed with the warm decor and clean, modern look. We were sat without a wait and our server came over to greet us in a timely manner. The menu was a bit confusing at first, as it is broken up into 'Sea', 'Ranch', 'Garden', 'Soup', 'Sushi', etc. After trying to decipher appetizers from entrees, I asked the server who informed me that it was all small plates. That made much more sense! We started with the spicy tuna roll which was fine, but not memorable. Next we had the crispy brussels sprouts which was served with delicious pork belly, pecans and parmesan- very flavorful! The miso shakekama (salmon collar) was also a wonderful dish that I would recommend trying. We ended the meal with the shoyu ramen which was not my favorite. My boyfriend said he enjoyed it, but it lacked flavor in my opinion. Overall, the service and atmosphere were great and the food varied from mediocre to excellent. Love it! The service is always great, and the food is delicious. I prefer it a lot to Sushi Den! The interior is so fun as well. They also have many vegetarian options. Very crowded on weekend nights, so make a reservation! And parking can be hard. Make sure to go upstairs for an open roof when it is warm! read more

It's only about the ambience. Not worth the price unless you're going for the atmosphere. The service is pretty bad, the food was average. Food service was backwards. We got our sushi, then the soup, then the shumai. And all really fast, no time to even drink or get to the next meal. The Fireworks role was very plain, the Dragon roll was very good though. This sort of place makes sense when you have a lot of money, when the top priority is a very cool atmosphere. But everything else was just very average. Heaven on earth just from one location. The restaurant that promises an enjoyment in one place is Izakaya Den. I'm writing a review on how good Izakaya Den can be. From food, services , to decorations i give Izakaya Den a five star rating. They deserve a five star because of their fresh seafood to their fresh grown vegetables and their natural decorations . When walking into Izakaya Den for lunch or dinner there will always be a person waiting for you with a smile on their face to take you to your seat. Thats what i call good service. When the waiter comes to take your order, they always start with a nice smile and nice manners to ask what you like for today. When waiting for the food their beautiful decorations take you to another planet with their bamboo trees inside the restaurant to their outside view. The sight of food arriving to the table was a sight of heaven. With a plate of Jalapeno Sashimi, Ginger Sashimi, and their New Style Sashimi. It was plates full of surprises, from snow white fish to mango orange salmon each has its own unique flavors. The fresh vegetables helped intense the unique flavors with a fresh natural taste and feel. With just simple vegetables like ginger to jalapenos and fresh fish flavors was intense. So, in my overall times at Izakaya Den i would rate them a five star restaurant for their fresh fish provided for meals and simple vegetables to intense flavors to the next level and their breath taking decorations read more

I was torn between 4 and five stars. 4.5 would have been prefect. The lobster ramen was delicious. The only thing that would have made it prefect was a little spiciness to it. The crispy tuna was good but here is where I take off the half star. It smelled fishy. It tastes good but the smell was a little strong. The bone marrow. Where to start? Visiting from Hawaii and took a friend here. I admit I was worried if Denver could get fresh fish for sushi. And this place exceeded my expectations. They had the great starters like Hamachi Kama (they call it Hamakama) and Agedashi Tofu. The Saba and Tai were fresh and scrumptious. No surprise here, this place lives up the reputation. Walking up to our table on the second floor was a great start to the experience. Beautiful plants, stone, wood, and sunlight. It's just a breathtaking setting in which to enjoy your meal. We've been to Sushi Den several times, so we only got a few pieces to end the night. We were more interested in the small plates. We had the ginger sashimi, citrus seared wagyu, crispy tuna, and some nigiri. All a complete delight. The only misstep was the seafood dynamite. It was heavy and one note. The sauce completely obscured the flavor of the seafood. It was the only dish we didn't finish. read more

DELICIOUS!!! My wife and I went there for the first time all based on Yelp reviews. The atmosphere was elegant/sophisticated and was a perfect setting after seeing a play downtown (Murder for Two). Our sever was knowledgeable and took the time to make suggestions and based on that we had the Red Dragon Roll (melt in your mouth Tuna), the Rainbow Roll, which is our go-to roll when comparing sushi restaurants, the Caterpillar Roll and the Avocado Roll. This is pretty much my favorite restaurant in Denver. The food is AMAZING and the service is incredible. The reason I am only giving three stars is that I made our reservation a month in advance. It was my birthday and our anniversary celebration AND it's the first time my husband and I have been out in 6 months because we have a new baby at home. They put us at the worst table on earth---all I did was stare at dirty bus tubs all night on the second floor. They tried to screen it from customers but hugely failed. I put my name in for a table on the patio and waited for about 45 minuets. I returned to the host stand to find that there was an error inputting my information and I was not on the list! I was extremely disappointed. All I wanted was to sit on this amazing patio and have some Ramon. At that point I decided to have dinner at the bar. Moments after I sat back down the manager came over and offered a sincere apology, and comped us two drinks and an appetizer. Which made the world of difference. It was amazing to see that level of customer service. I will keep coming back to sit on the patio. The bartender made a one the the best old fashions I have ever had. It was just right served on the rocks. I had the Miso Ramen which was unforgettable. The broth was garlicky and buttery, and the pork was so good. I have to have it again.
