The outside of the building needs cleaned and painted desperately. The sushi was good. I enjoyed the cucumber salad. We had a large party and our server was great. We had a large party. I am not a fan of the 1.5 hours to eat for the all you can eat. It took a long time to get started and we felt a little rushed. They do take reservations. The men's bathroom smelled bad. Super cool experience. I didn't know how the train ordering worked, but they made it fun! It is a unique way to be delivered food. As a train enthusiast myself it was super fun and worth it. The food was fresh, not too much rice, and lots of flavor. The orders came out quick even though I went on a busy Friday night. The staff was nice too. The place wasn't the greatest, but in my opinion it doesn't need to be if the food is as good as it was. Plenty of TV's to watch things, you could even sit separately from the train if you want that too. Solid place for AYCE sushi. The outside (esp the front door area) leaves a lot to be desired but it's quaint inside. They run the sushi counter train on weekends and it is such a fun little experience when your sushi stops in front of you. The rolls can get a little backed up on busy weekends at rush hour. We got our nigiri pretty quickly but the rolls ended up arriving like 15 min later, at which point we had already placed another order. We were visiting Denver from out of state for my son's 21st birthday. We looked up a lot of places to eat and sushi train was one that he was excited about. However, when we got there, they refused to serve us. The doors were locked, so we knocked politely. Somebody opened the door a crack and stuck his head out. We asked to be seated, and he said that they were closed. We pointed out that the sign on their door stated that last call was at 9:45pm, and we were there at 9:25pm. 20 minutes before their last call time. I sped on the way over there while my son looked through the menu, so we were ready to order when we arrived. The place was also nearly empty, so it wasn't like they were busy at the time. I worked in the food service industry myself, so I know how it is when you wanna just get off on time and not get super late customers. But especially if they are not slammed at the time, and their sign on the door says we were 20 minutes before their last call time, I feel it's unacceptable to turn us away. I hate to give this place 3 stars as the staff/service are phenomenal, but the food is not good. I went for the novelty of the train. As there were so few customers on a weekend evening the train barely ran and the staff preferred to hand food to people as opposed to running it on the train. I ordered 3 rolls and an order of nigiri in addition to apps. The fish was not fresh or tasty and we ended up dumping most of it. The prices are very reasonable but you get what you pay for.... For a 30.99 AYCE menu you would hope that they at least make everything fresh, but they don't. -Miso Soup was garbage and flavorless, just a warm water with some miso paste mixed in. -Takoyaki was gross and microwaved, which was evident as half were cold as ice while the others were barely room temp. -Nigiri was very basic, and the fish was not good quality. Salmon roe was very poor quality. -Rolls were gross, mayo heavy, and very poorly prepared. Half of the roll was nearly empty and the other half was overstuffed. Even worse was the seating situation. Train is a gimmick that only serves the bar and they leave the front door wide open so you are constantly blasted with the cold winter air. Makes no sense. Front entrance is also over crowded during busy hours, no seating for people to wait and no clear place to put your name in. I walked halfway into the restaurant before I was able to get my name in. We came in at around 40 minutes before their supposed closing time. Once we got to the front door, we found it locked. To our surprise, an employee came out to tell us they had closed early. My question is what restaurant closes a whole 40 minutes early on a Saturday night? Adequate all you can eat sushi restaurant. The fish was good but not spectacular, naturally there was a lot of rice and not a lot of fish. We didn't realize that all the specialty rolls were on the menu, so missed out on that during the first round of all you can eat order. Two chefs stood there, not doing anything. Our waiter didn't even wait for me to eat my last bite to ask if I was done with the meal. Was it busy that they needed my table? Was it neat closing time? Nothing like that at all. It was so that he could clear a plate away. He was that eager to get to do something. I was taken by surprise by how ...inappropriate it was to do that. My family and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was not too packed. Our party of six was seated immediately. We love coming here whenever we're in the area. Dinner AYCE for adults is $30.99 and for children 4 and older is $15.99. They have a great selection to choose from. Everything we order is always good, we never leave disappointed. They're pretty quick on bringing your food to the table as well. Service is always great and they consistently come by your table to make sure everything is okay. My sister initially recommended Sushi Train, when she came over to help me - at our dad's house (which I inherited), after our dad's death, and we needed Scotch & sushi to process paperwork, as we started handling his estate together, last October. Given I haven't lived in CO for 20-yrs, and know my preferred sushi places in San Francisco & Washington, D.C., I trusted her recommendation, that we order Sushi Train from GrubHub (they do not accept DoorDash). She ordered once for us - last October. I've ordered 5 times since then, the past year, and I've picked it up vs. deliver it ~3 times. This totals +/- 10 times in the past year, almost once per month. I was happily ordering the "My Boyfriend" roll, which my sister loves & recommended, along with my choice of the "Aspen" roll - religiously. Until the last time, I came down with food poisoning. Now I'm scared to return, and have been getting my sushi from Whole Foods, if not going to Sushi Den. I'd prefer for this issue to be remedied, as this place is closer to my house. Also these include an entree which I ordered the chicken teriyaki and thankfully they forgot about it after bringing the sushi because I had no more room to fit anything in my stomach. My suggestion would be to skip the apps and order maybe one or two rolls with your entree and if you are still hungry after you can order more. This review is for the all you can eat portion. What I really didn't like is you see all the pictures on Yelp for the rolls but it looks nothing like the ones in the photos! You only get the good looking rolls when it's not AYCE. All the rolls we ordered looked and tasted like those free California rolls that come in a combo. I would give it a 1/5. The baked mussels were good. 4/5. The agedashi tofu was kinda too lemony but ok. 3/5. Now for the main star, the nigiri. Some fish were very good. Hamachi. Yellow tail. Tuna and salmon were average. The scallop ones were really disappointing because it looked so good in one of the pictures on Yelp. Definitely feels like this place cheaps out. No sashimi. Better rolls have an upcharge.
