Always seen the long lines and thought what is the hype? Could it really be that good? Yes! The answer is yes! The baked goods are so tasty and moist. To top it off the variety of flavors for the fillings are amazing. And to go even higher the butter flavors are that good too!
Had their food so many times but have not until now because of the pineapple crust bbq pork tart and the pineapple pork bbq bun. Liked both but enjoyed the tart more. The bbq pork was sweet and went well with the slightly salty tart crust. Crust was light, thin and flaky. The Pineapple bbq pork bun was also good with the sweeter bread. The crispy crust added a nice texture. Good bread meat ratio. Like eating a less doughy pork bun. Also tried the mango butter with Tajin pineapple bun was ok. Good pineapple butter but not sure about the Tajin part. Kerrygold butter bun had a nice buttery creamy flavor. I usually don't finish a whole bun but I finished the pineapple bbq pork bun really quickly and wanted another of the bbq pork tart.
Glad this place is closer makes it easier to get. The place is quite small. No seating area. They didn't have the salted egg pineapple bun which was a bummer. But everything else that I got was good. Just wished it was warm. Ordered on a kiosk and service was quick. Will be back to try other flavors and get the bbq pork bun.
Came here after hearing about it from friends. Mainly a takeout bakery. We ordered a couple of different butters to try. Our favorite was guava and the salted egg butter. Love the softness of the bun and the thick slab of butter. We tried a variety of the mini tarts as well. We will probably skip them next time and just get the pineapple buns.
I went today on a Saturday and the plaza was so busy, it was so hard to find parking. I got the fish mooncake, the 6 pack pineapple buns (the best bang for your buck in my opinion), and the peach tart. For the peach tart, I thought it could've been bigger, it was pretty small and it was the same price as the 6 pack pineapple buns. Overall, this was a great bakery and there's always a line out the door. The price is worth it for the baked goods for the most part
Finally tried and found it a bit expensive and nothing crazy. Zero ambiance but at least service is fast. Got the croissant tart in original and pandan, the outer crust is just way too hard but pandan flavor was there. i like how th ube pineapple bun had real yam but the filling wasn't that tasty or distributed probably and it was pretty dry. the best thing i got was the matcha puffs, the cream was actually pretty good and the size makes the texture was very satisfying. $4 for a teeny tiny tart was not worth it, two puff was very worth it, and i wouldn't get the ube again but it was reasonably priced given there was real yam in it.
Still as good as I remembered! It's a no brainer that the salted egg butter is a must order. You can't go wrong with a slightly sweet crunchy soft bolo bao and the salty egg butter. This time I also ordered their pork floss salted egg tart but the crust is just too flaky and oily for me. Service is quick and friendly! Will always stop by when I'm in town.

I've never been a fan of pineapple buns- Pineapple King Bakery totally changed all of that!! This Bakery is kind of small in size and it's strictly meant to house transactional sales. Seating consists of a few tables and is more like a takeout joint. The Hong Kong style pastries are sweet, crunchy, yet so very soft and fluffy- all at the same time. The very first taste left me in awe and that has not changed one bit. These baked goods aren't overly sweet. The textures are well rounded and the flavors are unique compared to the Americanized standpoint. These pineapple buns are buttery deliciousness and depending on your choice of filling, it can check off all the marks of being sweet, savory, and leave you wanting more. Faves: *PINEAPPLE BUN [PLAIN] *BBQ PORK PINEAPPLE BUN *BBQ PORK BUN 5/5 stars. The quality has not declined even after all these years.

My husband delighted with bringing me here because it was so good!! We got pineapple bun with butter (daughter fav), I also like it!! we also got the bbq pork pineapple bun, which I didn't even get to taste..again my daughter devoured it. According to her..it was bomb! What I did love is the salted egg custard pinapple bun, and the salted egg pineapple bun. Because we didn't get enough, lol..we also got egg tart! Everything was delicious It's an order by the window service. The ladies are so nice and patient with us as we tried to figure out the menu. We will go back here again

I really like pineapple bun. It reminds me of Hong Kong. It gives me lots of memory of milk tea and buns in Hong Kong. I used to stop by when I m in town. There were several incidents that either my order was wrong or missing. This time I m shocked about the quality. One particular bun is smaller than the rest. It's not a big deal however I m also doubt the quality control. Isn't it they should weight the dough when making the bun? Ok...understand people makes mistakes. When you saw it and sold this to customer then it's not okay. And please slow down and check the orders to avoid mistakes.

This is a take-out only spot serving all sorts of Pineapple Bun variants. Some are injected with custard. Some are served with a slab of unflavored or flavored butter in the middle. Some creations are just distant relatives of the Pineapple Bun. The food: Pineapple Bun with Custard - They start with their standard Pineapple Bun which is already amazing and inject it with custard. Probably my favorite thing on the menu. Watch out when you eat this though since it will most likely make a mess. BBQ Pork Tart - I don't know exactly what this was called, but it had the flaky base of a Portuguese egg tart, BBQ pork as the filling, and then the crumbly top of a Pineapple Bun. It was worth trying once, but I can't say I understand it. Pandan Tart - This was decent. Center a little chewy. Lightly flavored. Pineapple Bun with Pandan Coconut Butter - I thought I would like this more, but there are some coconuts I really like and some that I don't. It's an off-note that I'm particularly sensitive to. I'd recommend the regular butter though. Had that before at a different location. Now that I've been to two locations and tried a bunch of different things, I think my combined recommendation would be Pineapple Bun with Custard (original), Pineapple Bun with Guava Butter, and Croissant Egg Tart. This is a pending review for a crowd favorite: Pineapple King Bakery! Had tried their signature pineapple bun long time back and definitely could see why it was so popular. Freshly baked buns with different flavors: pineapple, custard, Mango, etc. I might try the butter buns and some of the savory items next time, but for now, this bakery is usually one of my go-to's! read more

I love the little street stall vibe, and when I went there was no line and we got our order quick! we ordered an original Pineapple Bun and tried the Pineapple Bun with butter to try something new. I was skeptical about having a chunk of butter in the bun, but it turned out to be my me and husband's favorite! Both buns were freshly baked and still warm. They don't have a strong pineapple flavor, just a slightly sweet flavor really. The butter gives the bun such a homey and warm feeling, it's delicious and has the perfect crumbly outside texture and soft inside texture. Will be visiting again for sure to try out other flavors!! read more

The orders come out quickly and you can either order ahead online, at a kiosk or with a worker at the window. There are some tables outside but no inside sitting area or washrooms. This place had the best pineapple buns! When I go there, there is always a line for ordering with the cashier. I like to go to the left to the self order kiosk, the line is usually much shorter and faster. It's a corner store front with no inside space, it's just a window where you order and get your buns. The workers are always friendly and efficient, even when busy you get your order in a timely manner Highly recommend !! read more

I picked up a five-piece box that included two pandan coconut pineapple buns, original butter, guava butter, and a croissant egg tart. The original butter and guava butter were okay. The flavors were mild and did not stand out. My favorites were the pandan coconut and croissant egg tart. The pandan filling had a sweeter profile that you can immediately taste after the first bite. The croissant egg tart was small, but had a flaky and crispy outer layer. Inside, the egg custard was soft and smooth, which added a creamy contrast to the crisp pastry shell. The staff were friendly. Be prepared to wait in line. It can get busy, so it's best to order ahead or visit during non-peak hours. read more

Stopped by Pineapple King Bakery and had to try their pineapple bun with gold butter. The line moves fast, and the food comes out quickly, so even when it's busy you won't be waiting long. The bun came out warm with a crispy, sweet, crumbly top, and the thick slice of cold butter melted perfectly into the soft bread. The contrast between the warm bun and the rich, creamy butter is what makes it so good. It's simple, but done really well, not overly sweet, super fresh, and definitely worth trying if it's your first time here. They also have a nice selection of teas and milk teas, which pair perfectly with the bun. I'll definitely be back to grab another one. read more
Mikey Chen of Strictly Dumplings covered the San Francisco location and mentioned the "newly" opened Fremont location. I have no idea how long ago my wife saw this episode, but she had it bookmarked and we finally made it down here. While this is in a building, it operates more like a kiosk. Service was quick, friendly and straight forward. The 'butters' were presented in a separate bag with ice so they wouldn't melt in the buns. We bought two gift boxes, one for ourselves and one for some friends. They ate theirs before we tried ours and reported that they were delicious! We ate a couple of the mini buns when we arrived home and they were delicious! Don't judge, but the dog enjoyed the crumbs that fell off as well. read more

best pineapple buns in the bay area! there was a very short line when i went to this location sunday afternoon but i chose to order ahead - i got the box with the mini buns that included the mango, custard, butter, and matcha fillings. The butter original one is my fave! The exterior of the bun is extra crispy and it's so good hot and fresh out of the oven. Also got the hot milk tea which is perfect to pair with your bread. If you order ahead, you will need to show your credit card or id that matches the online order name. read more
I loveeee a warm pineapple bun with butter so try to make it a point to come to Pineapple King most times I come to visit the Bay. Unfortunately, I was pretty underwhelmed by my most recent visit, as the buns were served room temperature. This drastically reduced my experience this time around as the buns just didn't taste as good. The hot milk tea was good but a little too sweet even when I asked for light sugar. I was surprised that it was served with a cute pineapple bite! We also ordered the pineapple bites with vanilla dipping sauce. As with the regular buns, I was a little disappointed that these weren't warmed. There are two lines, one for ordering on the kiosk and one for ordering with an employee. I came by 15min before closing time and there was still a line but it moved very quickly. I was able to order in 5min and once ordered, the buns came out very fast, maybe 5min. I ordered an assortment of pineapple buns and pineapple puffs. The guava butter flavor was very weak so I wouldn't get that again, but really enjoyed the chocolate marshmallow. The buns themselves are amazingly delicious, especially when served warm and flakey. Pineapple puffs are really stuffed full of cream and would definitely get them again. One item I would skip is the ice coffee milk tea ($7) because flavor was just okay, a bit heavier on the coffee and not too sweet. read more

It was nice the milk tea came with a small pineapple bite. The price is still decent, but was disappointed in the quality. There were many customers but the service was fast. Store is located in a shopping center but parking was quite challenging on a Sunday. There is a big parking lot but still hard to find a spot. Their classic Chinese pineapple buns are HK style, they are on the too sweet / too flaky side comparing to Taiwanese style pineapple buns. We bought a box home and they are pretty yummy. They are trying to branch out and start selling egg tarts, we didn't try them because they are only famous for the pineapple buns. read more

Solid pineapple buns! LOVE their pandan coconut bun. I think their tarts are just ok--tried the seasonal persimmon and the bbq pork tart. They have a really efficient setup, basically ordering from the door and picking up your order when your number is called. Think their prices are pretty high, but fine for the occasional sweet treat. read more
For the last 3 years I've been saying I am definitely going to make it a point to stop by, every.single.year. FAIL. 2026, finally, success! From a foodie vid I saw, that guava butter caught my eye because it totally looks like spam! Island girl sees spam and immediately thinks yum lol. I knew it was a butter but I just needed to taste it to be absolutely sure LOL. When I finally got my hands on one, wow! The bread was softer than I ever imagined. Flakey, messy, yummy bread and butter. My two absolute favorite things. I always say I'm a sucker for a good condiment and butter is on the top of the list. If it weren't for a good butter then I prob wouldn't eat so much bread. So it's a good thing I don't live nearby because this could be a huge prob. Cholesterol aside, I did want to try a bunch of other things so the 10 blessings box seemed like the best option. Mini buns with butters: guava, gold, salted egg, chocolate & pandan. Tarts: pandan, salted egg pork Floss, taro, pineapple crust bbq pork, & croissant. The tarts were alright but the pineapple buns were my fave. The tarts are about $4 and pineapple buns about $4.50. The box came out to $32. At least next time I know I'll stick to the salted egg pineapple bun and guava pineapple buns. Along with this location there's another in SF so definitely a must for us. Had this place bookmarked for a while and finally found myself in the area. HOLY BUTTER THESE ARE AMAZING! I understand the extra cost due to their freshness, warmth, and fluffiness. Eating them right away vs 30 min later made a big difference, though they do have reheat instructions on the box that would likely have helped. Got the OG butter, salted egg yolk, bbq pork, and also two of the mini tarts, all to go. Everything was phenomenal - the croissant egg tart and salted egg yolk pineapple bun were the winners, but we happily scarfed all of it. Can't wait to be back in the Fremont neighborhood. read more
Visited Osaka Marketplace and realized Pineapple King Bakery was in the same plaza, so my husband and I stopped by. We didn't realize how popular this bakery was until a long line formed when we decided to order. The cashier was nice and took time to explain which were the best sellers and what would be good to try. Since it was our first time there we decided to try the pineapple original butter bun, pineapple puff buns (matcha and original filling), and some egg tarts (croissant, matcha, and persimmon). The persimmon egg tart just came out fresh from the oven too! The pineapple butter bun was delicious, although I preferred the pineapple puff buns more since I like custard texture more than the butter slab. The pineapple bun itself was solid -- a nice, crusty, crumbly top over a soft bun. The egg tarts were interesting. The custard filling of each were rich and creamy. The crust was crispy, which is something I haven't tried before. The crispiness of the crust paired well with the creamy filling. There was definitely more custard than crust, which is great for my preference. I didn't really care much for the crispy crust though. The bakery had tons of pick-up orders and has some outdoor seating (although I think the outdoor seating is meant to be shared with plaza patrons). Parking is shared with Osaka Marketplace and several smaller restaurants and shops. Parking was a bit challenging since it was a busy time when we arrived. Be ready to walk a bit, and you'll be fine. Which ones are pineapple buns without filling inside?
Pineapple Bun or Mini Pineapple Bun are both without fillings.
I tried this place in sf back then and it just a regular Chinese bakery simple , I love the buns , but for real , the wait time for the whole process can take up to 1-3 hours is ridiculous, I can drive to sf n back even faster then wait?
You definitely can! I waited 2.5 hours so I can really drive to SF twice and still saved more time.
