    matcha latte
    Ashlee L.

Such an ADORABLE little cafe selling adorable little asian flavor cakes! I lovedd the minimalistic interior design, and it was very clean! We came around 2:30pm on a Sunday though and they were sold out of the jasmine green tea cake that we wanted to try :( But a little bit after we got the black tea cake, they put out a couple more jasmine green tea cakes. So I guess they are baking throughout the day, and it's kinda a game of luck to stumble across the one you want at the right time. The black tea cake was still very yummy. The earl grey taste was super strong and it wasn't too sweet! If I was being really picky, the cake itself was a little dry, but it was still good! It was a pretty small cake, it looks much bigger in the pictures. We also tried the matcha latte, but I would not recommend that. It tasted like they didn't use high quality matcha so it tasted very grainy and milky. I could sit here all day and yap with friends.

Such a smooth & fast process ordering a custom cake from Topi! I ordered the bear cake with a custom jasmine tea pistachio flavor inside and it delivered. It was a beautiful cake with fluffy interior and subtle tea taste. I was reminded of Molly Tea's matcha pistachio! The picture really says it all! It's such a cute cake!

Went here to pick up a small pastry during October. They had very cute, aesthetic pastries. It wasn't too sweet.

Very good cakes! Light with a splash of fruit. Jasmine cake was the best. The grapes on top provided a good balance to the texture and flavor.

Wow, let me tell you. First thing I saw after I came inside was the display case and I was shocked!! The cakes were soooo small and tiny. It was laughable that was the price for it. I was super excited to try this place because we frequent MJ Sushi next door on a weekly basis, but can never catch them open. I'm a bit sad now after I got to experience them. Otherwise, inside was cute and pretty. The worker was young and needed a bit more customer service training but she was nice overall. A bit overwhelmed when one of the cakes wasn't in the pricing system, which is understandable. Management should have added it before releasing the cake. The flavors are innovative, but what makes them justify the price. We tested two cakes and they were good but I'm not sure if I will be back.

Walked past Topi while in the neighborhood and I have a big sweet tooth so we stopped by. It's a cute shop with plenty of indoor seating and a nice, cool temperature. I had to try the Oreo dishes because I love Oreo. The desserts were all good, but I honestly wish that they were a bit sweeter. The desserts themselves are unique and have a fun selection that people can try new things they may not otherwise have been able to try.

Peach oolong milk box cake, very plain

Decided to pick up a cake for my partners bday. It was empty on a Wednesday afternoon but was convenient near my workplace. The cafe is super aesthetically minimal which I loved. The lady at the cashier seemed to pay no attention to me asking about the prices or let alone helping me. I thought the 6" size was perfect but tell me why it was $80?? i can get the same size cake at Paris baguette for half the price. (I guess that's Palo Alto prices for ya). I opted for just the 3" Jasmine green tea cake and their peach oolong mini box cake. Peach oolong - tasted like a plain, dry sponge cake with plain whip cream and bits of peach topping. I also didn't like the jelly bits sprinkled on top, it didn't pair well together. For $9, it was bland and was nothing special. Jasmine green tea- was ok. not sure if I liked the pistachio nuts inside the cake. Again, the sponge texture with the nuts made it seem dry. The whip was nothing special. I only enjoyed how crunchy the grape toppings were, but jasmine green tea flavor where??? Again, it tasted plain. For $28, I expected way more for how nice their presentation was. It was really underwhelming imo. Would I be back? Probably not. I'd say there are better tasting desserts for cheaper prices.

Med have tried this a few times now. Nice selection of small cakes with creative flavors. This time we had tiramisu, peach oolong, and melon yuzu. The sponge cake base is light and overall the sweetness of the cakes are in the more subtle side which allows the fruit and tea flavors to take a more central role. Moderate high price, but pretty in line with Palo Alto area.

jasmine green tea cake and earl grey scone

I will have to disagree with the majority: I did not like the jasmine green tea cake or the scone. And I wouldn't come back to give anything else a try after being disappointed. Jasmine green tea cake: Where is the jasmine green tea? I could hardly taste it! The cake layers tasted like basic vanilla (if it was infused with tea... then I didn't taste it), the pistachio layer really overpowered the other flavors, and the matcha custard layer barely had matcha flavor. It also costs $16 for this tiny 3 inch cake... ouch. Earl grey cream cheese "scone": Definitely not a scone, in the true sense. It's more like an early grey infused cookie with cream cheese filling. It doesn't have a strong tea flavor profile, probably because the cream cheese flavor is overpowering it. Overall disappointed and I do not agree with the hype.

I ordered a cake over the phone with Topi Cakes since their online order hasn't been set up yet and it was still a fairly easy process. She was able to take my order and payment through Zelle. I ordered their 5" green tea jasmine cake. Upon pick up, the staff were super friendly and had my order out quickly. We had a chance to check out the rest of the cake shop and it was just so cute. I do want to come back to try their coffee and boxed cake. The cake was very unique and delicious. I didn't know it was going to have a layer of matcha which was a nice touch. My favorite was the pistachio layer. Overall, it was a beautiful, delicious cake and the customer service was great!

I have been meaning to try out this cake shop after hearing they opened a store recently. Stopped by yesterday (Christmas Eve) to pick up some desserts last minute for my family. The inside of the cafe was minimalist and cute -- with lots of indoor seating and great lighting! I ordered two cakes to go: 3" jasmine green tea cake and 3" black tea cake. I took them to-go and I appreciated how the lady packed them with a lot of care to make sure they would stay put! The cakes were DELICIOUS and I loved how you could really taste the tea flavor in both cakes. My family was blown away by the flavor and my Chinese mom gave it the "not too sweet" seal of approval! One thing I did want to note was that the price is a little steep -- the 2 cakes came out to be $32 after tax. But with the amount of detail on the cakes and the unique rich flavors, I think it is well worth the price! It is one of the few Chinese cake shops I know of, and I can see the amount of care and energy that is put into all of their cakes! I'm so glad that Topi opened up a store and I am so excited to try more of the cake options in the future!

A creative new bakery with not too sweet tea based cakes but with a twist! THE CAKES! 10/10 my favorite was the black tea cake which had surprise chocolate rice krispy pieces in the center! It was a really welcome textural change, and it surprisingly complemented the black tea very well. The sponge is still light but denser than a typical Asian sponge cake, more like a Japanese style sponge you would see in a roll cake. 9/10 jasmine green tea cake had a beautifully fragrant cream, but once you ate it all together, the green tea gets lost in the pistachio and juicy green grapes. A super unique combination, but I wish the green tea got to shine more since it's such a delicate flavor. 8/10 peach oolong box cake was lightly sweet and so cute. The twist was the crystal boba intermittently dispersed throughout the cake, which was a nice textural change up. This had the lightest tea flavor of the three I tried. I thought it was fragrant at the beginning but by the end, it just tasted like regular cream. My husband couldn't taste the tea at all. The cakes are definitely pricey, but this is the only bakery that offers these flavors as far as I know! The packaging is beautiful if you're taking it to go, and it comes with a little wooden spork on the side. The servers were very nice but still new and trying to figure out how to use the register. And the bakery itself is nice and spacious and would be a cute place to dine in and enjoy your sweet treat! I'm definitely coming back to try their other flavors.

Great tasting cakes that aren't very sweet. However the 3" ones seem too small for the $16 price? There's too much cream and not enough cake.

Everything was beautifully presented. The workers were friendly too! Their items were a bit pricey, but worth it for the quality. Their spiral croissants were so much better than Fancy Flavors. It was flaky, buttery, and filled with delicious pistachio cream. This spot is especially great for more traditional flavors. The Anton Hokkaido Milk Crepe Cake wasn't overly sweet and the cream was light and fluffy. It was perfectly up to my standards when it comes to sweetness. I'd definitely come back again even if I'm willing to hurt my wallet because the sweets are just too hard to resist.

My family and I stopped by Marvel Cake during Mother's Day for a sweet treat on Sunday. This location is in the strip of Downtown Palo Alto and has limited parking (similar to the rest of the stores there, there is a lot of parking, and you will need to get lucky). My mom does like the Marvel Cake in their first location, so we swung by here to try this one out! Location-wise, this is a smaller shop than the original one in West San Jose with limited seating inside. I would say it's not work from home friendly however, I did see a college student next to me on her laptop so maybe I am incorrect here! The interior is nice and light, matching the elegance of the desserts. We ordered three items on the menu: the pillow cake, the bisou, and the blueberry lavender roll. Here are some thoughts: * Pillowcase cake: It may seem like this would be a fluffy cake due to the nature of its shape, but it is a gelatinous Jell-O cake with fruit jam. It was not bad, and tasted refreshing and light. I didn't know if I liked it at first, but ultimately I did come back for seconds and thirds, so this is approved. * Blueberry lavender roll cake: This was not at all what we were expecting. I did not taste any lavender, nor did it have a strong blueberry flavor. I think what threw our party off was the layer of gelatin that surrounded the cake. Texturally, we were not a big fan. * Bisou: This one was our favorite one. I appreciated the nutty crust in the bottom layer of the cake, while the filling was soft and bouncy. It is very sweet, however, but overall, I really enjoyed this one and feel like it would go great with a cup of coffee. What made the experience here a 3 instead of a 4 or 5 was the service we got. We weren't greeted when we came in, which, to be fair, is totally fine, maybe they were busy. However, the person helping us stared at us the whole time and did not really communicate well with us. When I tried to order the cakes for my family, they looked bothered that we were there, and I was not sure if they understood what pastries I was ordering because they did not repeat it back to us at all or confirm anything. When I did place the order, they slowly grabbed the plates and looked visually confused, which again, if they wanted to, I could have repeated it back to them. After they gathered everything, they put it in front of us and rang me up. The whole time, they did not say a word to me at all. Did not reconfirm anything, did not acknowledge we were there, did not say thank you. It was a bit strange, and I had to check with my family if it was me or if that was a really weird experience (it wasn't me).

Perhaps a bit on the fancier side, but it's a pleasant place to go for some coffee and a dessert. All of the desserts are beautiful and imaginative spins on classics with a middle eastern twist. Baklava Cheesecake: Such a pretty little packet. This is a bit contradictory, but the cream cheese filling is a little too sweet and dense and the outside should be a little more sweet, perhaps with syrup like on a traditional baklava. I missed that stickiness and moisture on the flaky exterior. But overall, it was fun to eat. Sweet Cheese Rolls: These were pretty good and quite creamy inside. Halawet el jibn is traditionally served with pistachio and rose syrup. These are hard to come by in the Bay and kind of expensive here, but tasty.
