Absolute rudest service I have experienced in a very long time. All because I misunderstood the delivery pick-up process (and I was extremely polite about it). What a sandwich! My family invited me to Izzy's for lunch and talked all about how good the sandwiches and potato pancakes are. They weren't lying - it was really good! Izzy's has to go service or sit down and we decided to dine in. I was tempted to get a Reuben as this is their specialty, but as my husband had decided on a Reuben I went with the Tommy. The Tommy is a roast beef with lettuce, tomato, swiss cheese, and Izzy's special sauce. It was warm and gooey and just lovely for a winter day. The potato pancake that is served on the side was so good (especially dressed up with a little hot sauce). I had a bite of the Reuben and it was really nice, too. I had a vegetarian Reuben, which was the only veggie-only sandwich on the menu board, I asked It was pretty much sauerkraut and some hot pepper relish-like stuff. It came with sliced pickles and a " potato pancake". I had to ask for some thousand Island dressing. Reubens are supposed to come with 1000 island The potato pancake was nasty: pancake batter deep fried in oil that was not hot enough, as the pancake had soaked up a ton of oil. It was dripping with oil...nasty Sandwich, grease-soaked fritter and an ice tea was 10-12 dollars. A little overpriced I believe Overall it wasn't a good meal. But I did try to order a no meat sandwich, in lieu of one of their other 20 meat-filled sandwiches. The other sandwiches on the menu looked really good, and the rounded-profile people that were eating them looked very satisfied. I'd give them a Single Star for the veggie Reuben, but that wouldn't be fair to the rest of the many sandwiches. Found out this was a local chain known for their Reuben's! Definitely enjoyed my sandwich and the side of a fried potato pancake was delicious! The sandwich was delicious, generous with flavorful corned beef, plenty of sauerkraut and of course, greasy from the buttered and toasted side. Having enjoyed Izzys sandwiches in the past I decided to stop on my way home and pick up a few of the same as I was too tired to make dinner. The experience was absolutely horrendous. To say the level of customer service demonstrated was obnoxious and amateurish would indeed be an understatement. I ordered the first sandwich and the associate said "what is that, I don't know what that is" .I said okay I'll have the next item only to be told that she does not know what that item is either. I ordered one last item only to hear an associate yell "WE DON'T HAVE THAT" Are they playing games or is this obnoxious Cavalier Style their way of luring customers in. i left and I promise not to revisit any time soon. read more

I like the sandwiches here, but I especially like it because it's a favorite of my mother's. She loves a good Reuben sandwich and she enjoys the potato cakes on the side instead of chips or french fries. The homemade pickles on the table are a nice touch and they remind me of visiting an authentic deli like Lou & Hy's in Akron, back in the day. Service is good, though they occasionally miss a request like subbing Swiss for American cheese on my sandwich, but overall they are friendly and efficient. I haven't tried the drive-thru, but that's a good option for a day when you just want something to take home. It's a once-a-month treat for me. read more

The Red Bank location is a great location. We live in Anderson and have given the Anderson location quite a few tries, and they were not good experiences at all. I'm a booth girl, and this location does not have booths, but the excellent service made up for it. And I'm also a Diet Mountain Dew girl, and they have it. Yay! I get the Izzy's Reuben with lean meat, and get it grilled, and I add applesauce to my order, because you gotta dip your potato pancake in applesauce! I keep hearing about how delicious the Goetta Reuben is, so that's on my list for next time. OH! You MUST get their Cabbage soup. It has a sweet and sour taste to it, and it's so delicious. My only issue is the price. OUCH. Pricey, if you get your sandwich grilled, and get a cup of soup and a drink. Our bill was $37 for 2 people. It's so delicious, but I can't eat there weekly. Who doesn't love a good Reuben? On a road trip with some friends and cruising through Cincinnati, the hunger pains began to emerge. We all quickly agreed that now is a great time to pull over, stretch the legs, and grab a quick bite to eat. We saw a sign down the road for Izzy's, and figured "hey why not?" We could all go for a nice deli style sandwich and a refreshing cold drink. We walk in the door and are greeted with a smile! Told to sit wherever, we quickly grabbed a table and perused the menu. I couldn't pass up the chance to try "Izzy's Famous Reuben". I mean c'mon, it's what the place is known for! We placed our orders and the wait began. We noticed on the tables a black container filled with fresh pickle slices. Without any hesitation we all dove right in. I'll tell you what, as soon as those pickles hit your lips you're in for a treat. Between the three of us, we almost ate the entire container. These pickles are delicious. So delicious, that we actually bought 2 jars on the way out - 100% worth it. I would go back for JUST for the pickles. A few minutes later, our food is carefully delivered and we are eye to eye with the famous Reuben. It looks gorgeous. Perfect bread piled high with sauerkraut, luscious corn beef, melts Swiss cheese, smothered in Izzy's famous sauce. As we stared at the sandwiches in awe, I totally forgot to take a picture. Right next to the sandwich was a big ass potato pancake - just as advertised! I've never had something like this before, and made sure to examine thoroughly. It is basically hash browns fried together into a huge patty, easily the size of a large fritter. The smell was incredible, and you could get a whiff of all of the special seasonings involved in the production. For the first time that I can remember, I didn't know where to begin. I slowly gravitated toward the Reuben and grabbed the sandwich by both hands. The first time was equivalent to ecstasy. I immediately fell in love with the hot corned beef, melty cheese, tangy sauerkraut, and oh so good Izzy's sauce. This is way better than I expected. I finished up the sandwich, and moved on to the potato pancake. The first bite was great. Crispy outside with a mashed potato texture in the middle. Absolutely delicious. The taste, texture, and flavor were all spot on. I dipped on a little bit of ketchup and hot sauce, and it only increased my love for the potato pancake. With my plate empty and my belly full, I could honestly say I was totally satisfied. This was a fantastic meal, very filling, and at a great price. No one asked me how everything was easy c. I flagged down a girl to ask for ketchup (mine was empty) and more sauce. Really disappointed. Usually great food but the three employees I saw were not wearing their masks over their noses including the woman who made my sandwich. Masks do absolutely no good if they aren't worn over both mouth and nose. When they delivered my sandwich to the drive through I expressed my concern. After getting a coupon in Reach magazine, we decided to give Izzy's a try. I had the Joe Walter, turkey and roast beef with american cheese on whole wheat bread. My wife had the "Signature" corned beef and swiss on white. Both sandwiches were below expectations on flavor and very undersized for the price. The bread quickly became a mushy paste. The only redeeming item was the potato pancake. Although small and greasy, it was very flavorful. If not for the coupon, this would be a one-star review. So far it has been the best tasting corned beef that I have had in the Cincinnati area. The actual volume of meat compared to the price is off compared to what I'm looking for. "World's Best Reuben" is kind of like the "World's Best Coffee" in the movie Elf... highly relative and only true if the world begins and ends within the square footage of the establishment. Izzy's is good food so don't get me wrong - it's simply not fair to have to live up to "World's Best..." slogans. It's a good Reuben, maybe a little light on corned beef. I love Izzy's! It was a place I was introduced to soon after moving to Cincy and I love everything about it. So much better than Subways or Potbellys. The choices are extensive and they each come with a cute little container of pickles and a potato pancake/ fritter. Ugh delicious! Their soups are great too, especially the chicken noodle that feels like mom's home cooking. I recommend The Suzy: turkey, cranorange jelly and a slice of cream cheese. Being so close to work, this is a place my boss and I frequent. I do have to say that I really do enjoy their sandwiches and it's typical Izzy's. I really am going to focus this particular review on this particular location because the food is Izzy's fantastic. When you come in, just go ahead and grab a seat. Come lunchtime, plan on being a bit late or a bit early though as you may have to wait otherwise. If that's the case, the drive through is an excellent choice. I've always had the friendliest wait staff. In fact, I can't ever remember not enjoying the conversation or recommendations of any of the people here. I've recently become a huge fan of asking for recommendations. It means I get the chance to try something new and also eases some of the hard decision making in choosing which delicious dish to sample. The parking lot is a bit strange because you've got the drive through on the left and also cars coming out of the lot. I would recommend care whenever you're walking or driving through. The location is clean and sanitary. Without booths, it can get a bit loud sometimes, but you're eating sandwiches. i wouldn't expect it to be hushed like a serious sit down eatery. Oh, Izzy's....so glad to find you. Haven't been to an Izzy's since the 80's when I lived in Cincinnati and went to their downtown location. But it was so good. Oh, your salami and egg salad sandwich and your potato pancakes. Just to die for. And then I moved away. So, I am driving back up I-71 from taking David to visit his brother Adam at college and I see a highway sign for Izzy's. And the memories come flooding back. And next thing you know, I'm on RedBank Road, looking for an Izzy's. I'm not sure they will be related to the old Izzy's (please, how many Izzy's can there be?) but I'm hopeful. AND it has a drive through. Which is great, because I haven't even checked into my hotel yet. I ask....yes, related to the other Izzy's. Apparently the first Izzy has passed, and his son is quite old and no longer involved in the business...but this restaurant....well it is, shall we say, still in the family. Okay, no salami and egg salad on the menu. BUT I get a great corned beef sandwich. What else was on it? I don't remember. The corn beef was just heavenly. I heard angels singing. What kind of bread? Probably rye. I was busy attending to some really good corned beef. The potato pancake...can it live up to a twenty year old memory? Doesn't seem possible. It does. So does the potato salad. Izzy's is a Cincinnati tradition that I remember going to Downtown with my grandpa when I was little. The thing I like best about the Izzy's on Redbank is that in good weather I can eat on the patio with my dogs. If you're looking for healthy fare, don't go to Izzy's. The vegetarian sandwich is chock full of sodium with sauerkraut and their olive topilóv. Add in the delicious Izzy's pickles and you've probably had your sodium intake for the month! However, it tastes pretty darn good. The potato cakes are tasty, but pretty greasy--that doesn't stop me from eating them, though. While not a place I would go every day, an occasional indulgence is good, and, if I can bring my dogs...even better! read more

I am 70 years old , grew up on Izzy's downtown Elm Street. I live in Hyde Park and frequent the restaurant, when I'm at the doctors' on Red Bank. On October 28, 2020, ordered the corned beef platter (extra potatoes pattie). Sandwich was fine, but each time the patties gets worse. Greasy, and this time tasted sooo burnt, totally inedible. This location is hit or miss on portion. It seems during peak hours (lunch and dinner) the size of the sandwich shrinks a bit. Going in between those times tends to have great portions. This location is further away from me than the Beechmont location but the food at this location seems to taste better, I haven't had a funky tasting meal once. The drive-thru is awesome and always fast. Some say that Izzys is a bit expensive but I disagree. For a few dollars more than a big chain fast food place, you get quality meat, delicious food and a better portion of food. read more

I'm not sure where to start. The bottom line is the food is great and the service is outstanding. I ordered the New Yorker and my husband ordered the Pastrami Delight. The server brings out a fresh bowl of delicious Izzy's dill pickles. The were very fresh, crisp, and tasty. If you ever get a chance to stop for lunch at Izzys, I highly recommend it. The prices are in line for the amount of food you get. FYI, the sandwiches are served with a nice, crispy potato cake. Try it out folks! You can't beat the service or the food lots of choices. Let me start by saying I never take time to write reviews. That being said, I felt this story was worth sharing. My wife offered to go out and pick up "anything I wanted for lunch" this afternoon since I had been out in the heat all morning. I immediately thought of Izzy's since it's 20+ minutes from our home so we don't get to go as often as I'd like. She made the trek to Izzy's and ordered my favorite sandwich....the Joe Walter (turkey and roast beef on toast). After she made the trek back across town we opened the container to see a hamburger bun with some corned beef on it. Obviously, that wasn't what we ordered. Mistakes happen...it's a part of life. It's at this point you learn a lot about a company's values, training, and management skills. I'm no expert in returning items and working through a company's process for those returns. However, I am a small business owner and knowing how to properly handle a mistake using great customer service skills is a huge determining factor in separating a customer's continued brand loyalty from a customer will never do business with your company again. After discovering the mistake with the order, the last thing I felt like doing was driving across town to take the food back and exchange it for the right food. But, that's what I did. Along the way, I called and spoke to the manager named Gary. During the call I shared the long drive time I was incurring to get the food we ordered. Gary apologized and stated "we'll make it right...we'll give you a soup or some dessert." I was immediately irritated because Gary didn't ask if I wanted a soup or a dessert. Clearly I didn't or I would have ordered a soup or a dessert the first time. I declined and told him we'd talk about it when I got there. When I got there, Gary places the correct sandwich in a bag and handed it to me while stating "I put three desserts and some extra pickles in there for you." Well Gary, I didn't want dessert and I don't eat pickles so what you gave me for the inconvenience of driving 45-minutes round trip to correct your company's mistake amounted to a "net zero" for me. Actually I'm in the red with 45-minutes of drive time and the fuel to get there. Honestly I don't care about the fuel one bit...it's more the principle. Gary and Izzy's....if I drive 45-minutes round trip for a sandwich, I must really like it. How about you refund my money for the sandwich I like enough to drive across town to get or give me a gift card for a sandwich next time. Don't offer, or give, me something that you don't know I'll appreciate. That's customer service 101! Izzy's....train your staff to better manage customer service opportunities when mistakes are made. Our worst and possibly our last experience here. I got the wrong soup, the replacement soup was barely warm, the carrot cake was tough and my wife's salad had a nasty bug in it. Pastrami and Swiss on rye toast. Nope! The potato cake had been cooked hours before being served on my plate. It was sort of warm and mushy except for one tiny piece on the edge that tasted burnt. . I did not eat the sandwich because it came on untoasted rye that was soggy on the bottom from sitting in the grease. The quality of this store's food leaves a lot to be desired as does the service. I've been wanting to try Izzy's since I love ruebens but I was very disappointed. I got a corned beef and swiss and a potato pancake since they don't have fries and it was much smaller than I expected for the price. I also think Arby's corned beef has way better flavor. Absolutely the worst food I've ever had! Also the ast. Manager steve was very rude and pretty much called me a liar, explained to him my meat loaf tasted like it was bad! My whole family's potato pancakes where could and completely flavorless! Izzy's is a great place to go if I need a quick lunch. It's a chain and almost fast food so don't expect too much from the decor and atmosphere but they have delicious Reubens, and I really enjoy Izzy's Mex and Izzy's Famous Corned Beef & Swiss. The potato cake that comes with it is an added bonus. For fast food it is a bit expensive (about $8-10 for a sandwich), but definitely good for a quick bite. read more

I really like Izzy's. Especially their goetta reuben ... gotta get a goetta reuben :) The classic reubens are yummy, too. And the corned beef. And the "award winning" potato pancakes ... mmm! I just looked at their website and apparently, they have a much more extensive menu than that, but I don't usually get anything else. This location is clean and nice and the service is good whenever I stop in. I'm a tad weirded out by the pickles on the table, but whatever.
