We were lucky enough to grab a table for 8 on a Saturday for lunch. The restaurant was hopping! We all ordered a variety of entrees which were delicious and served timely and together. We started with two orders of the spinach cheese dip. It was consumed so quickly I didn't even get a photo! The chips were light and the dip was warm and creamy. I would order this again! We ordered the chicken tender entree, Thai peanut chicken salad, BBQ pizza, grilled chicken salad with white balsamic dressing, risotto rice and finished with the chocolate cake and ice cream. This was my first time phere and it was recommended by a friend. The wait staff was so knowledgeable about the specials and great service. I had the Prime Rib dinner. When my meal came to me, it was a beautiful presentation but was lukewarm. The potatoes were so dry and unflavored that I couldn't even eat them. My prime rib was cooked perfectly but had no flavor whatsoever and also lukewarm. The best thing about this meal was the Key lime Pie. I had better prime rib elsewhere. For the service and desserts I give them an A+, but for my prime rib meal a C-. Maybe the chef was just having a bad day. Usually a great experience. I went the other day, gave my order and it was brought to the table. It wasn't what I ordered, but close. My server, who was really nice, indicated that I could eat the food or it would be tossed out. I said that I didn't want to waste food, so I would just eat the mistake and get what I had originally ordered to go and just eat that the next day. My server apologized for the mix up and that was it. When I was given my bill, the server said that I was charged for everything even though what I ordered was not what I was given. I go here a lot so I didn't want to complain about it. Just seems stupid that I was charged for what they were going to throw out. I'm pretty sure that the person who took my order was not my eventual server. So that person was at fault. read more

We went out for a family dinner and the food was great! I ordered the prime rib steak and it was delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly medium rare and the smashed potatoes were a great side. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer and it was really crispy on the outside while the inside was nice and chewy. This is actually a really pretty good chain restaurant! I'll be honest and say I was suspicious. I was visiting from Chicago and I'm used to local chefs and unique menus, so I was worried about an American chain. I was wrong! The service was awesome! Our waiter was super friendly and made a few jokes with us. The food was good- HUGE portion sizes but didn't compromise on flavor. We started with the artichokes. They were good because that remolaude is to die for, but artichokes are super difficult to eat. You can't eat the whole petal and it was just a lot of work! Most people got the prime rib, and my husband loved it. He's a big steak guy and said it was delicious and a great price point. I shared the chicken and the shrimp with someone, and both were good. The skin of the chicken (sounds weird) had this really salty yummy seasoning. The shrimp wasn't over the top and the cole slaw with cilantro was actually my favorite part of the dish. We ended with carrot cake and chocolate cake. Normally I am 100000% chocolate dessert over everything but this carrot cake won me! It was almost bread pudding like- really moist and the frosting was decadent. I couldn't eat the whole thing by any means but good. The chocolate cake was also good but more generic than the carrot. We split 2 desserts among six people- it was plenty! read more

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. My wife and I were on a little tour of Tennessee and while staying in Franklin we chanced upon J Alexander's. I wish we'd stayed a few days longer to check out the rest of the menu. I had a wonderful melt-in-your-mouth prime rib and my wife had something with lettuce in it. Yes, she came to a steakhouse and ordered a salad, so I mock! The ambiance was very romantic, the service was wonderful and the food amazing. This place was fantastic! We came for a work lunch, and they were pretty packed even at 11:30 am. By 12:30 pm when we left it definitely looked like there could be a hefty wait. We ordered the spinach con queso which was pretty good. I got the Thai Kai salad and substituted the chicken for Ahi Tuna. I am so grateful they were able to do this for me because the Ahi Tuna was SOOO GOOD in this salad. My co-workers got soup (Chicken Pasta) and salads (Alex's salad) and they really enjoyed theirs. I can't even count how many times I've eaten at this location. Not once have I had a bad experience! Service and food is always top notch. I love the chicken soup- but only really eat the noodles. I got a bowl once with only one noodle. I ate the noodle and sat the bowl to the side. Server inquired if I didn't like it. When I explained that I mostly just like the noodles and that this bowl only had one, he whisked it away. Came back moments later with a new bowl filled with noodles! That is the type of service we've come to expect at J's. Definitely recommend reservations! read more

Went for my dad's birthday and enjoyed the veggie burger. It was easily made vegan by asking for no cheese and instead of a bun whole grain toast. One of the best vegan burgers I've ever had!!! Also the broccoli has cheese on it so make sure to order without! read more

We are new to the area and checking out all the local restaurants. I have to say, by far, I have been most impressed with J. Alexanders! Not only is there no corking fee for bringing your own wine (yes, I just typed that), but they have a tremendous wine by the glass list including sparkling wines, which is unusual. Lisa, who is one of the bartenders, is extremely knowledgeable about wines and the menu, not to mention one of THE best bartenders we've ever seen! Two reasons for not giving 5-stars is the lack of shell fish on the menu. I, for one, like a choice of lobster tail or crab legs with my steak, which they don't have here. However, their menu is very varied and gives you the option of having a less expensive meal. The other reason is you cannot make a reservation for more than 4 ppl through Open Table. That's frustrating as you don't want to arrive with your party, then have to wait for a table, especially if the bar is crowded. The food though is delicous, and again so much to choose from. We started with their chicken and pasta soup. You would instantly think chicken noodle but think again. This is a creamy version with green beans, pasta and mushrooms. It's $6 a bowl and it's a large bowl. They also have a woodfire oven for pizzas and bread, which is a lovely way to keep dinner costs down, especially when their pizzas are a good size to share. We shared a pizza, two soups, a martini, salad and lots of sparkling wine for under $80. They have a bunch of martinis, and all are basically double martinis for $13. You receive a full glass, but then they give you a little extra in an ice bath...it's delightful! I wish we had room for dessert and espresso, but sadly we were too full to try...next time! Please stop in and see Lisa or any of the bartenders/servers...they are top notch and will take great care of you! Not to mention, as if I hadn't already, that the food is REALLY good! read more

I have been going to J.Alexanders since I was a child and I am still in love with their shoestring fries as an adult as I did as a child, if not more! I recently discovered their veggie burger and now am obsessed. They even pour a sweet soy sauce glaze over it and it is amazing. I introduced my boyfriend to this restaurant and he now is in love with the chicken finger platter. The atmosphere is also wonderful along with the service. The food is pricey but never once have I complained after completing meal and it is worth every penny. so ive been to 2 of of their locations in different states and the quality definitely seems to have improved since 5-10 years ago. its seems to me they are trying to replicate the experience at hillstone/houstons but not quite there ribs were spectacular and i got at both places. all the sides as well and that even includes the cole slaw. just great top to bottom. i see the reviews about bad service but our server was great but kitchen was holding her back several times. you know somethings up when the management is a bit too engaged on the floor. i wont give it a 5 because the kitchen was CONSISTENTLY slow. our order took 20 minutes to get to us and anything from the kitchen seemed ot take at least 5 minutes even if just a side. A MUST READ: J Alexander's has been my families favorite for years but after our experience tonight at the Franklin location that will never be the same. Our experience with the server Aiden D left us SPEECHLESS and DISGUSTED. To start she provided very mediocre service nothing compared to the normal experience. Accompanied by her mediocre service was a vile attitude and rude under her breath comments. Although we brushed off ALL of the sly remarks throughout our dinner and her rude demeanor when we were leaving Aiden D decided that she was not finished. She grabbed us as we were exiting and attempted to degrade us about the amount of gratuity we left her. Saying "Just so y'all know I only make $2.50 an hour". We left her a generous tip despite our treatment during our dinner. Overall Aiden D is an extremely UNPROFESSIONAL and poor reflection of this businesses reputation. We will not return until she is gone. We did speak with the manager and he did take care of our meal with how absurd our experience was and that was very kind of him. He did not have to do that but we did appreciate it. I hope J Alexander's puts their reputation and customer experience first and gets rid of Aiden D at the Franklin location. The service is atrocious. We made a reservation for 7:30 and came a little early. They asked for the last name and phone number and couldn't find it. They were talking in a very rude tone and said they couldn't find the reservation. I showed them the time I called them in my phone history and still in a very rude tone said they couldn't do anything about it. Let me say that the food is always spot on! Never will complain about the meal. However....there is a hostess that has been there forever (red hair) that needs to be taught how to treat customers. She is always short, rarely friendly and always has an attitude! I can't understand how she is still employed. My husband called at 4pm on Friday to ask how long the wait was for 2 people (we were 5 min away). A very nice young sounding hostess told us that there was no wait and to come on. She asked our name and said she would see us shortly. THEN out of nowhere, the other hostess interrupted her, took the phone and told us that wasn't possible, that they had just gone on an 1.5 wait at 4pm!! We pulled into the parking lot and while there were cars, they were absolutely not on a 1.5 hr wait. I recognized her voice from the MANY unpleasant times I have encountered her myself. There are many other great restaurants in Cool Springs that have very pleasant professional hostesses that treat their customers with respect. My wife offered to take me to dinner for my birthday and my thoughts turned to a steak dinner. So, we decided on a new spot- J Alexander's in Cool Springs . We were greeted as we came in and were shown to our booth. Our server followed with our menus to take our orders. My choice was the New York Strip, cooked medium rare, with the NYO mac & cheese. For dessert, the carrot cake. My wife ordered to 16 oz prime rib, cooked über rare, with the loaded baked potato. For dessert, the creme brule. My mac & cheese was unspeakably good. Under the breadcrumb crust was a magma of pipette pasta in a sea of golden goodness. The carrot cake was just as good. Spectacular. My wife was happy with her meal, especially the creme brule. The reason for this visit to J Alexander's was my steak- my New York Strip. I specifically ordered that it be cooked medium rare but it was served cooked medium drifting into medium-well toward to center. To make matters worse, there were occasional pieces of gristle that had to be taken from my mouth and plopped onto my plate. The New York Strip has been called the "King of Beef". Well, the King would have this sad piece of meat thrown into the Pit of Misery. The steak is what brought the rating down to three stars. read more

Decent food, huge portions, ok service, but for the ratio of staff to guests, service really rather unimpressive. For me the biggest turn off was what I call an odor of a "dirty dish cloth" musty smell upon sitting down at the boothI admit to having a sensitive nose, and this is not horribly uncommon at some chain type restaurants, but had hoped for more here. Though not like finding something nasty in your food , still not a pleasant experience. When we checked in, the hostess originally said the wait would be an hour and 15 min but the wait turned out to only be around 30 minutes which points to their quick service! I also really enjoyed the chips n queso along with the steak! I did notice that the filet mignon may have been a bit too bloody for medium rare but it was still good! The atmosphere is not great - nice decor but way too dark; it's even difficult to read the menu in such little light. The food was decent but I'm not a fan at all of restaurants who charge extra for sides especially when not noted on the menu. Some of the items under Burgers, Sandwiches, & Small Plates came with side items when others in the group got their food and some items listed didn't come with anything. It was a very unclear and a rip off. My suggestion is to go to Bricktops instead - comparable food and service but provides sides so much better for the price. read more
