I called to make a reservation, asked for a table no booth. When I arrived they had already seated my mother in a booth, when asked about the table was told they were full and only for parties of six or more. This is something that was not told prior when making a reservation for 4. Hmmm The server was sweet however not very attentive. My sandwich came out wrong by time they corrected it was cold had to ask for them to just make a new one. By the time that happened everyone else at the table had been long done with their own meals not really the experience used to from this restaurant. Sometimes you just need a good steak. Or sometimes you just need a really good meal, fortunately, J. Alexander's will give you both. This is a place where I know that no matter what I get, it's going to be good and if I don't like it, they'll do anything in their power to fix it to make it right. The inside is dimly lit, very romantic and has somewhat of an old school charm to it. There's a bar to the right and somewhat of an open kitchen to the front. I've had various meals where, all which I've loved. A few highlights would be : their kebab special, prime rib (which has various sizes available), I love their chicken tenders. I know I know chicken tenders at a steak house? Yes, get them. It's a huge pile of both tender (think Publix) and an even bigger pile of shoe string fries. The sauces they accompany them with are pretty amazing too. Another random item I get here is their Asian ahi tuna salad. Again, not steak, but the tuna is pretty amazing. You can get 4 or 8 ounces on the salad (I get 8). The cilantro vinaigrette is amazing. I skip the wasabi that it comes with. My favorite appetizer is the spinach dip and chips. They'll bring you as many chips refills as you need. The app is $12 so get your monies worth, but make sure you've got a water because the chips are super salty. But when I'm here, I really want steak. I get their New York Strip and their NYO mac & cheese. Both are killer. The mac and cheese is worth going there for just one its own. Wow. The service here is always great. The staff is quite attentive. Depending on the time of day you may be stuck waiting for a table, but it's worth it. If you do have to wait just grab a seat at the bar and have a drink or sit in the front area and wait your turn. Consistently good for every time. Worth the (moderate) price for sure. read more

As a longtime regular of J Alexander's Redlands Grill, i must say that this place has been a staple of our diets for many years - typically once a week. The service is always impeccable, and very attentive to our needs. The new manager is nice and definitely seems on top of customer service. Our regular bartender (when we eat at the bar) Michael, is always friendly and welcoming. Our server Kim (and every other server we have had) is always making sure that every need is met, with kindness and respectfully at that. The last Manager, an english fellow (previous to the present manager) did lack a bit in understanding how to rectify and deal with certain food quality issues, but the new manager did fix the situation which was not even hers to fix- which was greatly appreciated. As far as the food goes, we have been fans and ordered almost the same thing for years; filet minion, medium well, with ceasar salad and baked potato soup (on sunday only). I'm terribly sad to say, that though we love this place, atmosphere, service, drinks...the food quality/ preparation & consistency has definitely gone down hill. This is the 3rd time in a row where we ordered our steak salad and soup, and everything came out inconsistently prepared. The soup, which is our reason for coming, came out extremely watery. While the flavor was still there, it just wasn't the same trying to drink watery baked potato soup. There was an overabundance of chives which is not normally how it comes...i mean really, a lot of chives. We sent the soup back. The ceasar salad is normally prepared with just enough dressing, looking like it's properly measured out to ever so slightly coat each leaf with the perfect amount. This last visit, there were globs of dressing all over the place, with croutons that were just plain crunchy; normally the croutons are crunchy AND soft, the perfect combination, which has always been the other reason making this our favorite ceasar on earth, but that is not the case any longer.. there also were a few large chunks of parmesan (i mean just completely ungrated), which is again a first for our ceasar salads.. just not what we had come to expect i suppose. Finally, our steak came out. Though they were checking up on us and everything seemed OK at first, we just didn't have the heart to tell them that the steak was inconsistent. The 2 halves of a steak that was supposed to be the same steak, were cooked completely differently. The images tell the tale; one half was cooked well-done, while the other was cooked medium. We ordered ours, as always, medium well. The bearnaise sauce was also much thicker and seemed a bit of a globby consistency, which again was not the norm. Overall, the waitstaff & manager are still spot on, but i must say that until we know that their food preparation and consistency issues are resolved, we won't really be frequenting this place.. what a shame, considering this is the place i liked enough to have my birthday dinner at. I hope they fix their issues sometime soon..till then, we will miss this place. read more

Had the best chicken pasta soup, so tasty! Haven't had something that good in a long time. So, the filet minion was out of this world, for someone that is never quiet satisfied with the quality of the cut of meat, this blew me away and it was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. Perfection!!! I'm hoping to try this again to see if this was just a one off experience or a consistent one. read more

Worst staff and service EVER! We were a party of 4 and immediately after being seated, I had a glass of water dumped in my lap, and the runner not even apologizing (and I even had to ask another staff member to get me a towel because the runner that dumped it in my lap and down my leg simply walked off!  Order was dropped and we were not even asked if we needed anything else, the server never returned once, only to drop the check. We had to ask other staff members for what we needed. I find that extremely mind-blowing given during Covid you would think the servers would be very interested in making money, but apparently not! All 4 of us got the distinct impression that this establishment is not the least bit gay friendly either. When we voiced the issues we had to the management, and said we would not be returning, her response was (LITERALLY), "Oh well!" Sadder still is that the food was actually good, but none of us will ever return. read more

On a recent visit to Ft. Lauderdale, I stopped into Redlands for dinner before a night out. My travel friend and I both opted for salads. The Alex's Salad is a basic salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, cukes and croutons. The waiter accommodated our requests to add chopped chicken tenders to our salads. If you have a service animal they will basically treat you poor. They said they accept service animals when we called prior but during our dining experience they tried to kick us out. The manager did not visit the table the server tried to recover the situation which we can tell the manager asked her to. Very unprofessional to have your poor server be the bad guy. We gave the documentation to her that it was a service animal and proceeded to tell her we called and they allow service animal. She disappeared for ten minutes to apologize that she wasn't aware it was a service animal. Still no manager? For these prices it would have been nice to have a decent experience. Fast food service workers treat you better. This is embarrassing and do not eat here. The guest were staring at the table probably having a poor time wondering what the commotion was. read more

Yummy, yummy in my tummy. I worked at the Plantation location for six years and this month marked my one year anniversary of quitting, and I am not going to lie. I missed the food... So I hit up this one, not wanting to revisit old stomping grounds and run into that nasty witch of an ex-boss at the Plantation location, think Cruela from 101 Dalmatians meets Ursula from Little Mermaid... yeah she was that bad... So my need for the delicious food was met! Surprisingly there were also a few employees that transferred to this location, and it was so nice to see them and their smiling faces!!! The meal was so delicious, and the service was so on point. We started off with the queso dip and for entrees had a french dip, burger, rotisserie chicken and ribs. GOOD STUFF. We had a couple of martinis and beers, and the bill was about $200, so not inexpensive by any means, but you at least get good food and good service. read more

Consistency. That's the reason you can find us here almost every week. Food is consistently delicious. Service is consistently excellent. This is one of those places that every menu item is served and tastes exactly the same time after time. Food tends to come out very quickly. Almost too quickly. We always finish our salad (Redlands salad honey Dijon) before we will order our entrees. Keep that in mind if you want a Long leisurely meal. Sides come with the entrees. Which makes it a better deal than other steakhouses. And they don't charge you extra for sautéed mushrooms. So be sure to ask for them! You can sub our sides, too. So if you don't want fries, you can go for the Mac and cheese, for example. Also the kitchen is fantastic about special orders. So you can get your food exactly how you want it. Since we're regulars we've become very friendly with some of the staff. Here are a couple off-the-menu items they love and recommend: rattlesnake pasta, sub penne for the tagliatelle and sub broccoli (the best!) for chicken. It's a spicy delicious pasta primavera. The other is chicken tender tacos. Not on the menu but they are happy to make them for you. We will be there again for dinner soon! read more

In the past month we have had problems at the front desk. We always make reservations, one time they gave our table away even though we were sitting right there, then we come tonight with reservations, we checked in. People were seated before us, we inquired about our table and were told, they forgot. Manager is less than professional, totally unaware of how to handle customers and customer service. Wait staff are great, and food is consistent. By the end of the evening the manager took care of the meal and was very considerate. Really appreciate the effort by the manager. After 26 years of coming regularly I hope that things will improve. read more

I leave this review with a little tongue in cheek comment but before I proceed let me say that I've been coming here since they opened. The food is always good, the waitstaff is wonderful and the atmosphere is warm and comforting and I can't recommend them highly enough. BUT, and here it comes, my big but, I hate their salt grinders . They don't work correctly, they've never worked correctly and I doubt they will ever work correctly. You sit there twisting and twisting for what seems like forever and you're lucky to get a few grains of salt on your food. Over the years I've told a few managers they should get something better but they never do. Oh well maybe it's my fault maybe I use too much salt. read more

This is one of my family's favorite restaurants in Fort Lauderdale as it's quiet and upscale setting is uniquely different than most restaurants in the area. The food is high quality and tasty, although the menu is limited with options. A nice upscale place to eat. Food was fantastic. I had the prime rib with smashed potatoes and it was delicious. My mother-in-laws husband had the pork chops and according to him they were equally delicious. Wait staff was very friendly and very accommodating. The place is decked out wonderful classy place with a bar. All in all this was an excellent restaurant.
