Living in Fort Lauderdale one can't say there is a shortage for restaurant options. That all said, J Alexanders never fails when entertaining guest. Prior to seeing Tina at the Broward Performing Arts we decided to grab dinner at J Alexanders. Upon entering expect low lighting , perfect ambiance and setting for intimate dinners. They also have limited outdoor seating and since the weather was nice we opted for outdoor seating. Gary, our server, was quick to greet us with ice water! The steak tacos were flavorful and the veggie burger was very delightful. Everyone enjoyed what they had for dinner, which is easy on the ear when entertaining guest outside of your home. Most important, they have a a well run bar with delicious cocktails which can set the tone just right. Joined a friend for dinner. Promptly seated and our server was prompt and friendly. Our artichoke appetizer arrived prior to our drinks. The artichoke was tasty but definitely not filing if that's what you are wanting. Enjoyed the Thai Kai salad. Loved the flavor of the dressing which consisted of a thick peanut sauce and a vinaigrette. It would have well rounded with a roll or bread. I've been coming to this location for years! Went this past Monday night for a double date night with friends. We were quickly seated and greeted by Dion who was our server. We ordered the grilled artichokes for the table and as always they came out buttery and perfect. I ordered a filet steak special with a mushroom sauce. It came with a large amount of broccoli and some mashed potatoes as well. The steak came with about 4 medium size pieces. I did feel as if the portion for the steak for the price of the entree could have been a little more. I also had a Chardonnay which was the house wine and it was great, nice and smooth. At the start of May, after about 10 years from our last visit, we went out to J. Alexander's for dinner with family and discovered this as our new to go restaurant. The food was delicious, perfect in taste, presentation and temperature. The drinks were creative, tasty and not "shy". However, the service wins the prize. Dion was our server and he was excellent. With very pleasant disposition, making thoughtful recommendations and making sure we got every we need and promptly. Max and I had the Prime Rib Dip. They were what you would expect at this kind of restaurant. Max's risotto was served cold instead of hot and was delicious. I should have asked if it was vegan. The crunch and soft texture balanced nicely. I had the Mac and cheese. It fit the bill. Part of the prickly pear margarita is served in a martini glass and the rest of it is served in a small wine pour vessel that is nestled in a snifter glass of ice. I took the carrot cake home and had a sliver. This carrot cake is worth a million bucks. Here is the downside. The waitress was hospitable, but did not let us know what the soup or fish of the day was. If this was a cheap family restaurant I would understand, but for a classy joint like this, I would have thought she would rattle this off. When she brought our drinks, we asked the question. She never came over to ask us if our meal was outstanding. When the bill arrived, I noticed that there was an up charge of $2 for my drink. I asked if this was a mistake. She said no that everything costs more. I informed her that the menu stated $15. She said she wasn't sure about that. Then I showed her the online menu and that the board above the bar showed $15. She asked if I wanted the manager to bring a check that reflected $15. Um, I don't care about the $2. I care more about leaving a restaurant with $100 on the table for lunch sandwiches. came here on a friday with an 830 reservation. we were sat right away on an upper level in a booth. ambiance: i thought instantly the interior looks eerily like a houston's; they have butcher block tables, leather booths, similar items on the tables (rolled silverware, candle, sugar, s&p), and a similar wooden architecture that gives a steakhouse feel. except, j. alexander's is huge, which i don't think is a positive advantage when it comes to service. service: took a while to be greeted at our table, i wasnt super impressed with the service at first. our waitress seemed disinterested to sell us the menu items. she was a little condescending at one point when i asked about something on the menu, and i got the impression that she didn't like fish because she didn't describe in detail any of the fish items i was inquiring about. as the night progressed, she did seem to be a little gentler with her interactions with us; it was either that, or i was getting buzzed and didn't care anymore. food: the gulf coast shrimp appetizer was phenomenal, and was a perfect temperature when it arrived at the table. the honey mustard dip it comes with was delicious! my salmon was cooked perfectly, and the taste of the grill was on point. the coleslaw was excellent, cold, crunchy and just the right amount of creamy, and paired well with the salmon. my boyfriend's filet was also cooked exactly how he wanted it, and his loaded baked potato was hot and salty! huge turn off was the lobster mac & cheese. the cheese flavor was super bland (we had to add a good amount of salt to it), the macaroni was wayyy overcooked (it was almost like a mushy soup), and the lobster was almost non-existent, and what we did find was also overcooked. definitely a waste. bar: our dirty grey goose martinis were tasty & not weak / not too strong. and the cheese olives are always my favorite. ill come back with my boyfriend, but i probably wont pick this place to spend my money alone. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for 25 years. I have been through all of the various name changes. I have to say something has changed. Food was good. No complaints about the food. Regarding ambience: the place smells musty. Perhaps a rug cleaning is in order? Here is the issue: I was greeted at the door by a non-smiling sourpuss. No eye contact very low voice, unfriendly and non solicitous. I'm sure she's a nice person, but she should not be front of the house. We were seated in an area in the back where we had a waitress that was going to die if we did not get out of her station within 30 minutes. I've been rushed by the best of them but this was an all time record. We were still eating when she asked if we wanted dessert. We said probably not: she brought the check. She then "walked by" 3 times to see if a credit card had been dropped. Another member of the waitstaff took the check and card charged it and brought it back. Meanwhile we are still eating our lunch. When it comes to having a good meal at a reasonable price, while still having the high end dining feel, look no further than J Alexander's. The new name threw me off a little, but hey, rebranding may be a good thing. We came to have dinner after my son's graduation, and there was something on the menu for everyone. I called ahead of time to make a reservation for 5, but I was told they don't reserve tables for more than 4 people after 7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturday. Super odd. We took our chances and they had plenty of tables. Our waiter was meh, nothing special, he did his job and didn't screw up. I find that is the best you can hope for now a days. Our food came relatively quickly. Hubs and I got Salmon, while the kids got ribs and steak. My salmon was great, everyone else seemed to love their food as well. We came for a late lunch yesterday and sat at a booth by the bar. It was not busy at all. We had a great server named Don who let us try a few different kinds of wine before decided on a bottle. His service was great. We order the special which was lobster Mac n cheese. Plus the filet bravos and a filet Caesar salad. The Mac and cheese was good but parts of it were still cold inside. Everything was spot on! And top notch! I made my reservation through the Resy app. 7:30 when I arrived they didn't have my reservation and said it would be 45 min. To an hour . So we tried to decide where to go . We decided to just make another reservation and wait . After I made the second reservation reservation I thought I should go to the hostess stand and verify the new reservation. They didn't have the second reservation either. She asked me for my phone number and she located the second reservation. I told her we would just go to the bar and have a drink while waiting. She was very nice and said we will try to seat you sooner than later. When we got to the bar there were no seats so we ordered a drink and stood at the end of the bar in an open area. The bartender was very attentive and engaged in conversation. A few minutes later later he came back to us and let us know there was a couple at the other end of the bar paying if we'd like to head down there to have a seat at the bar. Within a few minutes the hostess came back to us and said she had a table for us. Out sever Chantelle continued to impress us with excellent service and friendly personality. There were two or three managers that stopped to check on our dining experience. Now last night with no seats available at the bar we sat in the upper booth section. Service was slow. Once we put in our drink order we waited then server came, with no drinks and asked if we wanted to put in our order, no we replied, not until we get our drinks. Once the drinks came we put in our app. order. Again, before we got the app, the server came back asking if we wanted to put in our food order, no we again said. Once our food order came the baked potato was cold, server no where to be found so my wife ate it as is. Steak was more on the well side than medium as we ordered. Waiter did come over when we were almost done and asked how the food was...we did reply cold bake potato! O you want a hot one, tooooooo late my freind. Well not sure if one bad experience should delete all the good so The rating of a 4 was because we had a lot of 5 nights and now a 1 On service and 1 on food experience thus the 4 True experiences need to be shared so others can make a choice. If a review was based on just service Jessica would get 5 stars but this is a mixed review with my taking a lot of the blame for what I ordered. I haven't been to J. Alexander's since they changed the name of the restaurant to Redlands. I have been wondering what that was all about and decided to have lunch there today. It started with my knocking over a glass of water! (Never a good start!) Jessica immediately gave us another table. The menu didn't look much different emphasizing beef before the name change. Anticipating the answer, which I didn't want to hear, I asked the server if the Prime Rib came on the bone and the answer was"no." I still should have stayed with a beef choice. Looking over the menu I saw "Mr. Jack's crispy chicken platter South Carolina low country recipe with french fries and Southern cole slaw 23" and ever since my friend in North Carolina mentioned his cooking up a mess of fried chicken for dinner it has sort of been on the back of my mind so I decided to go with that but I should have asked if it came on the bone--it didn't! (On the check it was listed as 'chicken fingers'--if it had been listed like that I never would have ordered them!) Sorry but the whole dish was a big disappointment--from the very thin, tasteless f(small f)rench fries to a 'Southern cole slaw' and I have never tasted such a dry cole slaw while the 'breading' on the chicken was flavorless which is why I think they offered 2 different sauces in addition to the ketchup. Next time I will stick with beef and even though Allen's Filet Mignon was very small, and buried under the fries, he did say it was very tender and tasty. Last, but not least, anyone who knows me I would kill for a piece of carrot cake but the 'carrot cake' I was served is so bad I left half on the plate! Lunch cost, with tax and tip, $85. I went here on Friday and it was so good I had to come again on Sunday, two days later. It had been awhile since I had been to J's so forgot how great the restaurant truly is. First of all, you must start with the artichokes. These 'chokes are no joke. Comes with a portion of 4 halves, perfect for sharing, and a delicious garlic-aioli dipping sauce. The artichokes are perfectly grilled and charred and have a delicious Smokey flavor. Not to be missed. For dinner (both days) I had the chicken Caesar salad. The dressing is garlicky and delicious, probably the perfect Caesar salad. The croutons were also great. On the side I had a loaded baked potato -enormous, salty and exactly how you would want a baked. The second trip I had the fries which are tiny and crisp - so good! Even the grilled broccoli is delicious. All in all, J's is delicious, had great menu options, and is very reasonable priced (esp as compared to its competition). Love this spot. You won't be disappointed choosing here for your next dinner. I came to this restaurant for my graduation dinner party with my family. I didn't know about this restaurant beforehand but it seemed very nice and my family was boasting so much about it. Since there were many positive reviews I decided to go forth with it. Upon entry, I noticed how big the restaurant looked and how clean the parking lot and building were. On the day we went, there weren't too many people there so parking was not an issue. Once we got inside, we were greeted with friendly smiles and welcoming. We were first placed in the waiting area as they found a table for us. As we were waiting, I was able to look around the restaurant and notice how spacious and darkly lit it was inside. I don't mind the dark lighting but if you have trouble seeing in the dark this may be a problem. The inside had a very calming atmosphere, I can't recall if there was music being played but if there was then it was very low. Once our table was ready, we were brought to it with their menu. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful to any of our questions. She was able to help us pick certain items on the menu to try. I can't fully recall what we ordered but the food was amazing. I remember trying their California roll as it was recommended to us and was a 10/10. Their California roll had to be one of the best rolls from a non-Asian restaurant that I have tried. I will say this is a more on the pricey side restaurant, but the price is worth it. After we enjoyed our meal and had to pay, the total was not too outlandish as it was reasonable for a table of five. Throughout the whole night, our waitress was very attentive to us and made sure we enjoyed our night and I am thankful for her. Both my wife and I enjoy dinning at J Alexander's a lot, which now they are going by their new name Redlands Grill. We usually visits their Pembroke Pines location, however we came here since the other location was completed booked and we were able to get a table here at 7:45pm. We love to start off the evening by having a cocktail at their bar. The bar is very beautiful and we always get good service and quality drinks there. This is the case in both locations we've visited. However, I was surprised about how rude and unprofessional the way the first waitress treated us. I wanted to ask her which menu items are still available since I know most places haven't had the chance to receive the fresh supplies right after Hurricane Irma. She basically threw the menus on our table and can't wait to leave our table. Moments later our waiter finally showed up. We told him what happened and he immediately apologized for her and promised to take good care of us. We told him it wasn't his fault and we really aren't trying to be unreasonable. Everybody was feeling under a lot of pressure after the hurricane and we do not wish anyone to treated like that. The rest of the evening was an absolute night and day. Not only our waiter was super nice and attentive, the meals we received were excellent. My wife had her favorite prime rib which was cooked to the right temperature. I had the grilled salmon which tasted delicious. Our waiter came back several times just wanted to make sure we were taken care of, which we appreciated a lot. I'm glad they are in the neighborhood don't get me wrong. Upscale restaurants help our resale value. However, they need some refreshing on the menu, a little too generic. Where's the raw bar? It needs it. They also need a refresher on curbside appeal. The outside building is so plain, so generic, so 90s, it makes me not want to spend my money there. It doesn't feel special enough. Redlands is a mega corp they can splurge on some exterior upgrades and improvements. The friendly servers really made this restaurant. This place seems to have a number of regulars and I can see why they return. The dinner was good and my grilled salmon with macaroni was flavorful. The head waitress is dating a manager, it's all over the employee reviews on Indeed, they have you train on corporate teamwork but unless you want to be a hostess and you're attractive -- don't expect to work there and be favored by HR no matter how correct you are. They also have you study massively for tests, and then if they "like you" at that time they won't even read your answers which means they will also fail you as easily. The employees teach you to cheat on the tests even though I studied for days lol. They don't check the answers. Definitely do noooooot work here. The indeed reviews were correct. Go to Morton's. Less training, less bs from HR about the girlfriend (who doesn't follow corporate rules) how she's the best when you're tested on 5 tests pre shift and your trainee is doing the exact opposite and causing emotional distress amongst ample female employees who are too afraid to speak up... Check Indeed the Fort Lauderdale location reviews -- they are accurate. I made more money with less stress at other spots.
