Everything about Redlands is wonderful to me and my family. I've been here, we'll actually we've been here several times. For birthdays, Mothers Day, just me & my bestie for lunch, my daughter's promotion to the next grade, & other occasions. Every time we've enjoyed the experience. The food is Amazing, the drinks superb, the desserts Awesome, the servers great. We always have a good time. Keeps us coming back Oh & we recently dined on their patio twice. The only thing I would fix is to add a screen around the patio to keep out the flies and other flying bugs & it will be even more magnificent. Great place, Amazing times! read more

What has been a staple over the years for us has made the turn toward subpar in both menu and presentation. There was a time before it was Redlands that this place was called J Alexander's for a decade we dined there, and could count on a delicious variety of choices with quality presentation. Now, post Covid, apparently the manager is more scared of the virus than he is concerned with maintaining the continuity of quality. He has removed the crab cakes, a long time favorite, and also removed the chicken salad, another perennial favorite. When you ordered something with fries you got a mound of delicious shoestring fries...now you get a subpar serving. It's been said this Redlands is the ONLY one nationwide that requires staff to continue to wear masks. In fact, they are the only restaurant in Memphis that still requires masks for workers. Here's a tip, worry more about your customer's dining experience than projecting your own paranoid tendencies on your staff. We won't be back. read more

I can't tell you how many times I have had the prime rib here but if I had to guess I would probably say more than 5 times. I'm very particular about prime rib because I do not trust restaurants to get it right but J Alexander's gets it right every time. They are consistent, meaning each time I enjoy a meal there the prime rib is cooked to perfection every single time. If you don't trust me just ask my steak snob mother! Trust me when I say I have seen her send back several steaks because they were overcooked but not once has she sent the prim rib back (she prefers steaks medium rare or as I like to call it still mooing... ) I have recommended this location to several of my friends and family members. Also as a sidenote I would love to mention that they have the best martinis (vodka-based)! If you're feeling extra then you can get the fleur-de-lis's it has a beautiful orchid Floating on top. read more

This was our 18th anniversary. They were notified ahead of time and we were seated by the kitchen and around tables with LOTS of loud talking people. My husband's steak was fair (maui ribeye) and I had prime rib.. fair also. Neither of our steaks were trimmed by ANY stretch of the imagination and the prime rib desperately needs the au jus it came with.. that was the only way it had flavor. The mashed potatoes looked like a giant rock, the potatoes were barely mashed and both on my husband's plate and mine.. it was cold. We were served NOTHING with it; no butter, they were bland, plain, large lumps, and cold. The salads were good... but that's about it. I wouldn't go back. As usual, the food was on point for presentation and taste profile. Harvest (our Server) was sweet, polite, attentive and professional. Also management made the rounds to ensure that customers were having a good dining experience. Kudos to the Hostesses, Servers, Kitchen Staff, and Management for consistently providing great food and an excellent dining experience. I think three is sufficient based on our server, she was great. But let's be honest. The food is extremely overpriced. When I first moved to Memphis they had a door greeter who opened the door with great energy. That is no longer a thing. Ambiance is always nice. Date Night So hubby and I got blessed with a sweet sitter - we decided let's keep this Valentine's Day Weekend going strong LOL ! We were totally stoked about last night so to get another opportunity to dine at a place nice as this was EVERYTHING!! I knew that it would be lots of people out and about so I figured might as well make reservations on OpenTable before heading out and I did And as expected the restaurant was packed - people were sitting alongside the wall & standing arm to arm in the entrance area- the hostess stand had people waiting in front of the stand in a single file line- this was the place for a Saturday night! I'm ecstatic that I made reservations in advance cause there would've been absolutely no way we would bee seated in a timely manner- like I mentioned this was the place to be! It was full of energy and conversations LOL! My hubby and I did get in the hostess line which moved fairly quickly cause people were simply asking for wait times and etc.- hostess was sweet and we informed her of our 8:15 reservation under my name- she found it immediately and gave us a restaurant buzzer for a 10 minute wait which was fine with us- we went over to the bar and we're to two chairs yes! Perfect timing for us to sip a min and chat. At the bar we were greeted with smiles and immediately asked what beverage we'd like during our wait for our table to be ready So we ordered beverages and about 15 minutes later our table was ready and we were seated in a booth with a great view in my opinion in the center of the restaurant- Our waiter was Owen he was informative and nice - he took our order (salmon for me) (steak for hubby) and steadily check on us to see if we needed anything- this was an amazing dining experience and I'd recommend this place to all :)) read more

This is my favorite restaurant of all the places in Shelby and Desoto County. I don't care what you get it's great. My favorite of all the wonderful things is Macaroni And cheese. I drive 40 miles for that. The Redlands salad is my next favorite. And of course carrot cake with the frosting warm and melted on top. Hamburger is awesome. Service is the best. The only thing I am not crazy about is the lighting if your not near a window it's hard to read menu. It's all yummy !! Clean and attentive service read more

Lemon drops are a little tart but very great. You really get a bang for your buck due to receiving two lemon drops for the price of one.

This meal was incredible. Everything we had was amazing. Would recommend the avocado bomb and prime rib any day. I would however stay away from the carrot cake unless you like super sweet. It was a little too much and is served piping hot. read more

My husband picked out J. Alexander's because he had a hankering for a good steak and he was not disappointed. He ordered a N.Y. Strip Steak and I ordered a coffee rubbed filet with smashed potatoes. My steak was cooked to the temperature I requested and was very good. Not chewy and a great portion. In fact, I took home half and ate the rest later and it was still good the next day. I was provided with a large amount of potatoes and had plenty for the next day too. I kicked up the flavor a notch with my husband's butter sauce. It would've been ok without it. But, that really helped. The server was very attentive and came to check on us often. read more

Shockingly, I did not enjoy this. We were out for a business dinner and I ordered the Steak Maui. Now I ordered this, so even though the first bite told me that it was sickeningly sweet, I would eat it. But really, if you have coat a steak with a sugar sauce, what are you hiding? In this case, a tough, over cooked and gristly piece of meat that I would have thought twice about giving to my dog. This was supposed to have been a ribeye, but I'm doubtful because it was not at all tender and not at all appealing. Now, being the most junior person in the group, I was not going to raise a fuss, it is just a steak. But my goodness, the amount of it that I had to leave behind because it just was not edible was shocking. This was one case and to be fair, my past experiences with J Alexander's have been better. This was an unusual circumstance and I wasn't going to correct it. But shame on the restaurant for allowing that piece of meat to even make it to the grill, for over cooking it on the grill and for nobody catching that I was chewing for 5 minutes and then discretely ejecting what was left onto the corner of my plate. read more
