Came here for dinner with a few coworkers and had a terrible experience. Our server was absolutely horrendous, and I think he lowkey was under the influence or something. He took 10 minutes to greet us initially, and then would take 30 minutes before checking on us again for the remainder of the night. He would take our drink orders and then come back and take an appetizer order and then come back to take our dinner order but the appetizer still wasn't there so he'd run away again to go check on it but not come back for forever and then finally take our dinner order and never come check up on us. He was terrible. He messed up numerous orders, and feel like he kept forgetting to ring stuff up. The restaurant also came by with a complimentary appetizer which they say they messed up, and it was terrible. Our server brought one of us the wrong drink which he rung up incorrectly, and my friends salmon was completely raw in the middle. Me and a few friends are attending a conference in the area and we decided to go to J. Alexander's yesterday because one of the ladies said the food was delicious. When we arrived, the hostess was there with a smile and some conversation. She was a mature woman with a big personality and the plus was that we went back today and she remembered us. We were quickly seated both days. Yesterday server was nice. I would give her a 7/10. Today our server was Brandon and this guy did his thang. He was personable, he was friendly, he was knowledgeable, he was accommodating. Customer service at its best! The restroom is clean and has a nice modern design. The restaurant itself has a high-end look, the decor is beautiful and I love the seating arrangement. The food is amazing and the portions are not shy. Everything was seasoned just right. The mac and cheese was scrumptious and I never order Mac and cheese when I'm out, but this had gouda cheese and I was intrigued. I had the emerald shrimp the first day and the cilantro shrimp today and both were delectable. Everyone enjoyed their food I did order a mocktail (I don't drink alcohol) and it refreshing. If you prefer to have dinner on the later side, make reservations for 2 hours before close, certain menu items are so popular that they tend to run out. When I've gone an hour before closing - the waiters always have to deliver the bad news, but they have great alternatives. Carrot cake is a must-try dessert. The place is very high end. The drinks are expensive and tasty. We went for dinner and meet friends and catch up. We had the crab cakes which were delicious and plentiful and in fact we ended up taking one home. I had the cheese burger based on our friend's recommendation, it was nothing special. Overall it was a very nice place, service was good but it is super overpriced! I should have known from the cars in the lot; Bentley, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar etc! As I said it was a nice experience and great to see old friends but the places atmosphere is very high end, super overpriced priced and kind of underwhelming. Not impressed. We had a group of 10 and our waitress was Kat. The food selection is quite varied. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches and main entrees. I ordered the club sandwich and was happy with the portion size. It came with shoestring french fries which were very good. Everyone's food was delicious especially the ahi tuna salad. The best part was how Kat and the manager Mike handled the only complaint we had, being over cooked salmon. Our party consisted of five adults, yet we were seated at a four-person table. This resulted in cramped and uncomfortable seating, and it was apparent that the host staff showed little consideration for our comfort. Upon unrolling my place setting, I discovered remnants of food from the previous customer still on my utensils. This lack of attention to cleanliness was, of course, disappointing and concerning. I ordered the grouper special, which proved to be a poor choice for several reasons. The fish was excessively overcooked--dry, hard, and resembling the texture and appearance of steak. It was likely grilled on the same surface as steak, which further affected its quality. Fortunately, my steak knife was able to cut through the tough fish. The final insult, FOOD POISIONING! I spent a restless night at home, including several hours vomiting the dinner into the toilet. With many options, this restaurant is permanently off our list of choices. read more

Prime Rib was cooked very well, but the mashed potatoes didn't taste quite right. They could have been creamier and more flavorful. Yesterday, 1/10/26, we had a 6:45 reservation. They sat us by a long table of screaming drunks. We ordered. After half hour, and no food, I asked for the manager and asked to move. He promised to move us to a booth and we would watch two booths that might be vacated soon. The booth was available and the manager was in the kitchen moving plates and our waiter tried to move us and he was argued with by someone and we lost the table. After 1 hour of nonsense and watching plates go by, we had no food. I got another manager and said my head hurts and we are leaving. She said I'll check your food. We were both absolutely worn out and I said we're leaving. She came back with a bag and said we won't charge. REALLY!! How did the food appear all of a sudden??? Never had such terrible service!! The 'usually' delicious rare roast beef of the french dip was, not kidding, grey in color. The Chicken Pasta soup, a special, was almost the color of the two stars they got today. Um, NOT FRESH, left over from who knows when. Mushy noodles and extremely salty. Greasy soggy fries too. DO THEY TASTE WHAT WE PAY FOR??! Well for sure today they did NOT!! Very disappointed. Paid way too much for nearly inedible. The soup was definitely inedible. Came here with the family--wife, daughter and grand kids. The dining room is very very loud--a lot of hard surfaces reflecting a lot of noise. We had a variety of items, many of which we have eaten at other restaurants in this chain. For instance, the chicken tenders are great in Michigan but not great here. My wife had chicken soup and a salad, which she liked. I had local fish and it was ok. The service seemed kind of confused and jumbled. Our drinks took a long long time to arrive--which is not desireable when it is cocktail time. So I don't know, it was just kinda meh, and I will def not be rushing back. read more

It's been ages since I been to J. Alexander's but I was not disappointed! We stopped in for lunch today. The ambiance is always nice at J's always feel under dressed because the servers look well dressed. McKenna was our server very friendly service with a smile. Our food was very delicious! We ordered the steak with fries, glazed pork chop with mashed potatoes with broccoli, and the prime rib dip sandwich with fries. Each dish was flavorful and well seasoned. My wife said this has been one of the best prime rib sandwiches she has had in a while. We truly enjoyed our food. Will visit again soon. read more
